  1. M4 carbiney thing is a good name for it. It's all black, not 2-tone. It's parts from old bits of kit to get my main AEG working from when I played many years back (pre-UKARA days). I've got various parts of the "whole" Marui M4 knocking around somewhere. Recon I can botch job the old stock tube, and just replace the actual stock itself. Pretty sure it's 363mm front end. Sounds about right. The current stock is a full size solid Stock (although I have a mini-solid somewhere too). Just not a fan of solid stocks. Switching round front ends I've done ok. It's pretty much a hot-swap front end at the moment where I can switch between my 3 spare front ends (SR-25/classic M4/stubby) in a couple of mins. Something I always wanted to do, but ended up making it be accident after all 😃 Internals work to the extent that I can get everything turning over. Managed to get old NiHm charged enough to test it and the gearbox functions. When new batt arrives I can run some mags through it and see how it's actually working. Hopefully there's nothing too amiss inside.
  2. Good to know. Thanks Cheese 😃 I know some companies were known for only making parts that work with *their* kit (ICS?), but I didn't realise that TM was one of them. Looks like a whole new front end is the way to go.
  3. What was the problem with the TM Front End? Plan is to replace the outer barrel with the Blue Dragon, so I can get a slightly shorter barrel. Probably use the TM sight as a fixer-upper for now. The Reciever is JG (I think). Most if the TM front end will be taken off, just salvage the D-Ring etc from it, so I'm *hoping* it won't be an issue...?
  4. The gearbox is rear-wired, so handguard is purely cosmetic & comfort. Thinking of packing out the inside of the handguard with some dense foam to help combat the dreaded barrel wobble. Another anchor point can only be a bonus. Replacing the bulky Solid Stock for something a little lighter too. Maybe a magpul clone on that too. First step is to get internals working, then maybe an upgrade or two. But I always like to plan ahead the upgrades, build up a little wish list, otherwise I'll keep changing my mind as to what I need. It's a long term project. A little here and there each month. But, once it's finally done I'll get some pics done. Thanks for the advice; you'll no doubt be seeing more of this in the "what have you just broken?" Thread! :-)
  5. Thanks guys. Still waiting for battery and some internally bits to arrive to make sure everything inside is working. Then I'll be getting externals to make it a little fancier. AK, thanks for the offer, but at the moment I'm sticking as cheap as possible - which is why I was looking at the Clone parts. Then save up long term for "decent" bits. Once I've got it out and running I'll probably get some pics - and a lot more questions. Playing side I've got the hang of. Technical side is all new ground for me. Also, what am the best LiPo to get to get to fit the handguard? ... (Joke...I've been warned about lighting a DuckBomb 😃 )
  6. Thanks Mr Duck, The TM front end is a classic M4, so have the typical pinned front sight. I'm fairly sure that can be taken apart with a bit of brute force and some WD40 on it. Recon this should give some wiggle room if the front "Magpul" isn't exactly the right size. £13 just seemed a little too good to be true. I'll check out Fleabay for other options on the outer barrel. Inner workings wise, I'll always pay the little bit extra. No point in compromising on working parts.
  7. I've been looking into doing a custom job on my M4. Currently is a Frankenstien of whatever parts I had in the bits box to make a working AEG again. Tokyo Marui front end JG Reciever & internals Unknown stock 😕 Looking around for something a little different j came across these; http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft-outer-barrel-ris-rail-systems-hand-guards/acm-magpul-style-7-inch-ergonomic-front-hand-guard-black.htm#.VoT4BdkgGc0 http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft-outer-barrel-ris-rail-systems-hand-guards/big-dragon-outer-barrel-set-m41516-rifle-cqb-black.htm#.VoT5bdkgGc0 These are perfect for what I'm looking for, but they seem REALLY cheap (by most airsoft kit standards). I know Patrol Base have some good reviews, but has anyone had personal experience with these manufacturers/parts? I've never heard of Blue Dragon until now! Advice is appreciated. Cheers 😃 2x19
  8. I'm a mid-capper instead of a hi-capper, just because of the noise. Where a hi-cap is basically a chamber with a feed tube, there is room for movement inside the mag. As you run around your entire vest goes SSSH-SSSH-SSSSH-SSSSH with every step, and it only gets worse as you play because mags get emptier. Drives me mad!!!!
  9. Maybe your gloves are just so damn good that you don't realise your being shot elsewhere ;-) Depending on the game (CQB/Urban) a good Bash Hat is a good idea. I've seen several instances of guys being out of the game because they banged their head on windows or ledges in the heat of the moment. Not necessarily something Tacticool - just something to lessen the Bonk! I've heard some sites do require it to play!? Everything else (fancy webbing etc) is just preference and fun. A good tacvest is a good idea. If your doing long games in summer, a Camel-Back is great too. When I first started playing I always wanted the kit that 'looked right'. Now, I go for what's comfortable and carries enough mags to cope with my terrible aim :-) DPMs - nice and cheap Viper LA Tac Vest - cheap and 12x m4 mags 😃 Decent gloves Full Face Pro Bash Hat in CQB And a sling That said, whenever I see the guys and teams with the proper kit; who clearly put a lot of time, effort and money in - I do get a little jealous. My fiancé would kill me if I spend the money on kit to be one if the cool kids who do it properly. ;-)
  10. My two cents; I've spend years wearing the cheapy £10 Sansai Mesh Mask that retailers sell and never had any issues. I've played all through woodland and CQB in them. Every few months they need to be replaced if the strap starts to go; or the mesh comes loose from the housing. But, £10 for 5/6months is a good deal as far as I'm concerned. Never had any issues with the mesh being Unsafe. My current one has a couple of dents in the mesh, so I'll keep an eye on them. If they get worse then it's time to replace. But; nonl sign of anything trying to get through. At first it was a bugger looking through the mesh, but now I'm used to it. Just like wearing sunglasses. I get that a lot of people don't like the idea of mesh because it the weaknesses in it; but I've never seen any problems myself. Tried goggles and glasses and never got on with any of them. It doesn't look tacticool, but it does the job damn well :-)
  11. It's just a cheapy NiHm to get the kit running, to make sure it actually does work; and fix any probs that surface. Once I know it's all working, I'll be investing in the proper batteries :-) Don't want to spend out for the LiPo and charger etc to find that the AEG is going to be dead-tech.
  12. A new battery! Ok, it doesn't seem much, but it is the first step in me getting back into the game after 5-damn-years!!!
  13. Thanks Duck, Seems I've read so much I've got lost in all the info and didn't know where to go with it all. I'm sure I can handle the "don't be an idiot" side of it. Didn't know phones etc used LiPo. Better get a better case, I don't want my phone to explode I drop it! :-) Appreciate the help. I might just treat myself in the new year.
  14. I've been doing a fair bit of reading up on LiPo Batteries and there seems to be a lot of hype around them (it seems a lot of Airsofters swear by them). But there is also countless things online warning how dangerous they are too. Every article I find warns that they need to be fireproofed to charge them as they can explode; if they are knocked or damaged they can explode; if you stare at them long enough they will fizzle and explode...etc etc. Even ZeroOne seem to warn against using LiPo unless you have some safety kit installed onto the gun too. Are they really as unstable as everyone is making out? Or is this just people being terribly British and not liking something new? I always ran Nihms, but getting back into it after a couple of years off I need to get some new batteries. Don't want to waste money on something that either won't work or will burn my house down! I think I've got the hang of all the jargon about power and outputs etc. It's just the actual usage and safety side that worries me now! Any advice from people who actually use (or choose not to use) LiPo?? Cheers 2x19 EDIT: Most of the info I've read online about LiPo is directed towards RC Planes etc. But it's effectively the same, right? just power driving motors to do what's needed, so the theory behind it shouldnt be much different, should it?
  15. ZeroOne advertise it as being a 20mm Mount....so I'd *assume* that any RIS Mounted Kit should work. It would be worthwhile calling ZeroOne and asking them for sure, their tech-team are pretty damn good. Google seems to have some very vague answers on this - or I'm just searching the wrong thing.
  16. My nemesis was a little girl with a Pink M4 and a little tin hat. I hesitated before once because I felt bad shooting her. She giggled and went Full Auto on my nuts. Never hesitated again.
  17. Check out the New Players and Arrivals bit on here, too. There's a LOT of usefull info. A few legal bits you'll want to brush up on (UKARA Defence); an Airsoft Map; tech guides etc. Have a search and a browse. For the most part, anything you'll need to know will be have been covered in one way or another by someone :-)
  18. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qWct2r6azfw There isn't a set amount to adjust the hop to, it will be a case of trial and error. When it's not on, you'll get a reasonable range on firing. Putting the hop "on" will give you a bit more range each adjustment. But once you've gone past the sweet spot, the BBs will start to arc up as they are fired. So turn the hop the other way a little bit to turn it off. It should only take about 10mins or so (and a good mag full) to get it right. I've never heard of anyone doing damage by adjusting the hop wrong. Just be gentle and don't force anything to do something it doesn't want to. After a long while the Hop will deteriorate, as it's only a rubber buffer on the inside, but it can be replaced. It's fiddly, but do-able.
  19. Hi Rob Welcome to the last sport you'll ever want to play 😃 I'm a bit of a tech noob so I can't help a great deal, but... ... An 8.4v battery should be fine for a starter. In basics, higher voltage means higher ROF. But, more strain/wear on the internals too. An 8.4v is (in my experience) the "standard". I've run all my AEGs with 8.4 and never had a problems. 9.6 can give a bit more firepower, but that's not necessary. But they are (obviously) bigger batteries so the stock needs to be changed to fit them properly. Or duct-tape it to the outside :-) Caring for mags; empty them when they are done with for the day to release the tension from the springs inside. You can buy boxes of "Disposable Mags" for M4s. They're not quite what they sound; but their lightweight vacuum formed plastic. They come in boxes of 10/15. Tough and cheap enough that they can be abused without too much concern. If you pay out for more expensive mags, you'll worry every time you drop them! A hop-up is a little gadgety thing that sits on the end of the barrel (inside). It adds an adjustable amount of Back Spin onto the BBs as they are fired out in order to keep them going straighter for longer. The dial for it should sit under the Dust Cover. You should be able to release the Dust Cover by using the Cocking Handle. It should look like a little cog/dial on the inside. It takes some playing around and test-firing to get it set "right". All internals (hop, gearbox parts etc) CAN be upgraded, but they don't necessarily NEED to be. Think of it like a car. Some TLC and the stock version is fine. But the more serious you get, the more bits you'll want to upgrade to get better performance. .20 BBs are fine for most use. It's best to avoid the cheapest ammo as they tend to he worse quality. Not quite spherical so they can cause jams, shatter on impact/firing. I tend to stick to Excel BBs. I've never found a lot of use for Magnification on a rifle at Airsoft engagement range. A decent Red Dot has always seen me through fine. As for other add-ons; look at something called a MOSCART. They're pricey, but every time you pull the trigger you'll smile like a lunatic. Not the most technical advice; but that's the jist of it 😃 Someone will no doubt fix my poor description and help with the rest. There's a link to an Airsoft Map on here that shows a lot of the sites in the UK. Typically, your looking at £25-£35 for a days play. Sites tend to offer food-y bits. Sorry I can't help with links etc. Trying to do all this from an IPhone, which is a terrible idea :-/ Probably a stupid suggestion, but just incase: make sure you invest in some decent Eye Pro too. Full Face is highly recommended; some sites require younger players to only wear FFP. But just a pair of goggles is the bare minimum. Shooting Glasses are generally ok, but I've seen instances of ricoches getting behind SG's. Fully Sealed Goggles are the safest bet.
  20. The funny thing is that he clearly does it to provoke a reaction; be it positive or negative attention he probably doesn't care. Guess what...we've all reacted to it. So, in his eyes, he's done a great thing. Got loads of attention and talk about him. The most productive thing to do is, if we see him or people like him in the field, just ignore them. Take the shot, let him walk off and treat him like anyone else who plays. Soon he'll get bored of these antics and stop being a little beacon for it all. Or he'll go too far and get banned from a few sites (be it forums or actual sites). As long as his "too far" doesn't endanger anyone - nothing to loose.
  21. I'm glad to have been wrong about it. Only went a dozen times, but i loved it. I may have to take a little road-trip in the summer :-)
  22. It seems there is. THE only one. Last I heard (albeit many years ago) it was closing down because a lot of the buildings were getting a tad run down and rotten. Glad to see that I heard wrong. Typical noob mistake - I didn't search before i posted 😋
  23. Maybe a very Cliche one; but I used a P90 for my CQB games. Nice and compact, confortatable and easy to use. Full Face Pro can be a bit of an issue, but I found the classic £10 plastic-and-mesh mask worked a treat. Main down side is the mags. They're a bugger to carry unless you have a specific pouch/vest for them because they're so damn long. Wow...I've just realised how much I miss my P90. 😟
  24. The worst thing about this is the reaction it will get from people *outside* the Airsoft community. We can all look at this and know that this guy is just an attention seeking little @#$Â¥#. But no actual harm is done. As soon as some plonker who hasn't a clue about Airsoft sees this (M.A.G ??), it has the potential to reflect badly on all of us. "OMG! Airsofters are dangerous Nazis who are training to kill is all! Oh noes!" I've met some genuine WW2 Reenactors years ago, who were as a German Regiment (Panzerfaust - I think). All of them were stand up guys with a genuine passion to do it properly. I've also seen genuine enthusiasts who played Airsoft in full WW2 kit - US Paratroopers, German Infantry - it looked great and they did it because they loved what they did. The look, the authenticity, the history. It's just a shame that this guy shows genuine enthusiasts and Airsofters in a bad light
