So I am going to dragons lair site next week. I have only played at one site and that was Bunker 51. Looking for an outdoors site to play and play regularly as I have TM MWS now. For people that have played at this site, how is the site and is it solo friendly?

Hey Lozart. This is of the old Dragon's Lair site. The new one is further East and next to a grand hotel. So this is no longer valid! ?

It is fairly small and is mainly an outdoor CQB site with some rather nice woodland parts.

it is well run and has a very good safe zone.

Lunch can be ordered from the hotel when you sign in to the site.

Make sure that all guns are in a bag or case when moving them between your car and the safe zone.

Follow the rules or Ray will throw you out, which is a good thing.

It is solo friendly.

Would you care to elucidate for the benefit of forum members?  I have been to the new site a handful of times and have found it to be decent, although it isn't my preferred choice locally.

Hi, I've been to the new site a couple of times now and its pros are:

-how seriously they take thier safe zone rules, ever seen an owner chew out and ban someone for firing in the safe zone...?

Friendliness of other players

Steady site improvement

Crono policy

The cons?

No bangs (they do have the hotel next door), to counter this, they do run a poison gas rule.

The toilets, its porta loo, not serviced hotel

The game zone itself is as Colin says outside cqb with some interesting woodland.

So see you Sunday?

Uninspiring is the adjective to use,
I will list in bullet points the cons

1.Safety brief was mediocre , missed out MED's and other vital rules for safety , poorly described the boundary's to the site.

2.Marshals lack of control on the players ,''example'' single shot only when in structures shooting in and out of , i counted 4 times the marshals shouting ''single only in the buildings''
''example 2'' over killing and shooting dead players i experienced overkill on every death i had today my hand was clearly up , it was done intentionally , also heard the marshals remind everyone more then 3 times and yet it still happened .

3. chrono practices , chrono on .2s is 20 years out of date and leaves big gaps for joule creep and people to cheat the chrono green gas pistols where not chrono at all big safety risk , the one good thing was chrono on the weight you where using for DMR's and sniper rifles, thumbs up for that , but everyone should be chrono on the weight there using . I'm quite sure some of the hits i received where hot.

4. The battle grid , the battle space , the ''map'' quite disappointing, tho it is being built up it is Uninspiring, forces you into the woods on either side and then to just wait for the enemy to walk into you and for you into them , the new site is probably 1/8 the size of the old site ,any cover that's been put down is just that is been put down with no thought for the job it's supposed to do and is pretty random .

5. Changing of rules , the last game i played today was an attack and defend game , i decide to wait in the treeline at the back of the last objective, only to be told 10 mins in that i was not allowed to , this was not mentioned at the start with the explanation of the game and relates to poorly describing boundary's from No1, after this i decide to leave .

In conclusion for a site that has been going for 10+ years you would think experience would have ironed out the ''little'' problems , 40% of the max capacity turned up and 25% had left by lunch including me, for 30 quid you are probably better off at a different venue .

I haven't been to the new site for a while, but that looks like it is part of it; it is not the old site.

Cheers; that would be useful.  I have seen videos on FB of the work currently being done; they don't inspire me to go again.

What other sites do you recommend? I keep seeing Mayhem site being mentioned.

This was my report of Mayhem from April this year:

"On arriving, I couldn't find anyone to check in with; three of us eventually found someone in the shop/office. While everyone was prepping their kit, there was a fair amount of dry firing in the safe zone, which didn't seem to worry the staff.

The real disappointment was the games. Mayhem is very much a paintball site, with a number of different fields that could provide some interesting gameplay.  However, the four games that we played in the morning all involved the teams starting on opposite sides of a field and having to do something (move a flag, capture a flag, capture a jerrycan) that was a mechanism to bring the teams into contact.  This ended up with two lines of players shooting at each other; there was no real possibility to be sneaky or to try something creative.  I found it rather boring.

If you are considering going, be aware that they do not do hot food.  There are vending machines for fizzy drinks, chocolate and crisps and a tea/coffee dispenser, all of which take contactless payments.

One positive element is that, despite what it states on their website, they chrono on the weight of BB that you are using."

Airsoft Plantation is a site that I really like; it is well run and the games work well.

Splatoon is usually a good day, although there tends to be a little too much time spent hanging around.

Apocalypse is very popular and gets some very positive reviews; I find the marshalling to be poor.

Skirmish Billericay seems to have a reasonably large and loyal fan base; I found it rather disappointing due to some of the game modes (30 people crammed into one small building).

Try a range of sites and see which ones suit you.

Do you know any indoor sites near the romford/lakeside area by any chance?

As an aside, that's a nice looking brushcutter.  Might be a Shindaiwa.

STIHL or gtfo

To each their own. Personally I tend towards Echo for the brush cutter/ trimmer and Husqvarna for saws. Will say the Ms500i is a cracker though.

I'm in the same situation as you having to rely on public transport and I've found you need to be ok with spending slot of time on public transport and be prepared to walk alot to and from sites

would take me nearly 2 hours+ of buses plus a 1.5 mile walk to play at Mayhem Romford
