M4 rail suggestions

I need a new rail to go with the rest of this build.
The current rail twists - entirely my fault, as I have lost some bits from it.
I'd like M-lok, I think, but aside from that I'm open to suggestions.
Current is around 7"
I'm not averse to longer...

Been looking at those, but a slightly shorter one.

Is there any advantage on having the screws on the side vs underneath in terms of strength?

Will want to put a bipod on the front of mine

Cheers

I think you might be right!

@Wo1f will this fit straight on, or will I need something else?

i cant guarantee it, but providing you have a pts rail adapter, it should

It looks like it comes with all the bits you'll need BUT it does state that it fits "most 223 M4" so the thread might be different.

This one is listed as "AEG and GBB" compatible http://www.taiwangun.com/en/ris-i-ras-i-sir/12-5-m-lok-lightweight-handguard-for-ar-15-m4-black-bd?from=also-viewed&campaign-id=8

I’m liking this at the moment

I like it but first thing that jumped to mind is a pistol carbine kit , think it’s the cut out underneath that gave it that impression for me

There's no cutout, it's just the angle of the picture. I have one on a project build that I really should get around to finishing!

It's because of the rail section underneath the fore end. The underside of the main part is a full run of M-LOK. In fact that build now has an M-LOK RVG on it.

The only issue with M-LOK right now is availability of accessories. Most of the airsoft manufacturers are still hooked on Keymod like the luddites they are so most of the M-LOK stuff I've bought is "proper" Magpul.

I’m sure I read somewhere that Keymod is going to be binned (could be COMPLETELY wrong but I’ve got it in my head) by all the major manufacturers and M-lok is the way there all going to go

Not sure about completely but in the various tests that have been done of late M-Lok is certainly coming out on top. If the US military adopt it then I could see keymod ramping down, but for now there's a lot of it out in the civilian market. @CKinnerley knows more than I on the subject but this is the published results of the NSW CRANE testing https://ndiastorage.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/ndia/2017/armament/McGee19427.pdf

Same thing here published on Soldier Systems http://soldiersystems.net/2017/05/05/details-on-the-ussocom-sponsored-keymod-vs-m-lok-test-conducted-at-nswc-crane/ interesting to read the comments and just how many keymod fanbois there are would suggest it won't go away any time soon. That and "but why didn't you use Geiselle and BCM?!?!?!"

I've mentioned it before, but there was a format war like HD-DVD and Blu-Ray; turned out M-LOK is cheaper to machine in terms of the handguards and as those tests show, more resilient where it matters.  KeyMod is still fine for most folks, but it lost the war and everyone is moving to M-LOK which means that going forward you'll see barely any KeyMod forends or accessories by comparison.

US SOCOM has very much adopted M-LOK in the form of the Geissele URG-I.  Us idiots in the MoD are going HKey (HK KeyMod) but that won't last, especially since it's now very likely the US Army will end up with M-LOK and if that happens that is the true and absolute death knell for any and all competing attachment systems.

I heard that Blu Ray won out as it was the format the porn studios went with...

I mean.. maybe that contributed, but based on the reading I've done I highly doubt it given the streaming age we live in.

It's sort of true but had more to do with mainstream studio choices and Sony's decision to fit a BD player into the PS3.

I was also under the impression it was Sony choosing blu-ray that was the biggest nail in the coffin for HD-DVD .

I thought so too, at the time they owned Sony Pictures film studio, not sure if they still do.  This would have helped push Blu Ray
