At no point in that video did i see the child point the gun at the cops, raise it as if he was going to point it at the cops or, while the cops were there, point it at anyone else. In fact there did not appear to be anybody else around at all (although of course even 9mm shots can be lethal at considerable range, but you'd have to hope that for that to be the justification the gun would at least be in his hand). Difficult to be sure whether he had his hand on the 'gun' or was lifting his top out of the way so they could see it. I did see the cops pull up and pretty much immediately shoot him. Maybe they have decided that, due to other circumstances such as a crime wave etc, they are going to shoot first and ask questions later. That certainly appears to have been a good description of what happened. We will have to wait and see if the tactic gets the Chief of Police, or Mayor, or whomever, re-elected. The community at large may consider the odd 12 year old to be acceptable collateral damage. I wonder how many dead children it would take to become unacceptable, because one thing is for sure: for established criminals with lucrative business to lose, the answer will not be to quietly melt away, it will be to get better guns and shoot before the cops even get out of their cars... Having seen that though, if he was my son, those cops would be dead men walking.

That's true, but all they are is a piece of steel wire bent into a 'u' shape with a blob of match-head mixture dabbed into the crook of the bend and allowed to dry, so you can totally make your own just as effectively. I wouldn't bother, but the price of some of this gear is out of order!

Not bad going when you think that he first enlisted for the Battle of Hastings!

And realism too... I mean, they definitely do not like it up 'em...

Some D-Boys guns are ok and some look and feel good, such as their full steel RK-10S AK-47S, but generally they are not well regarded and based on what I've read, their quality control is poor. I think Chock may have one of those you linked and he's happy with it, afaik. I suspect that if you simply upgraded the hop up bucking (AKA hop rubber) it would be fine (partly because opening it up and rebuilding would guarantee that it was assembled properly). But for £220 you could get a guaranteed decent performing G&G that also looks and feels good out of the box.

I disagree. The moment to pull the trigger is when the 'gun' is being raised, not when the kid reaches for it. It's a split second and yeah, in that situation, where it is a child so, although it could be real steel and just as dangerous no matter his age, it is less likely to be a firearm than were he an adult - enough that waiting that split second longer before pulling the trigger is the right thing to do. As I said above, being a cop is a difficult job. I personally would likely have shit it and fired if he so much as twitched towards drawing what might be a firearm, but I'm not trained to deal with such situations and 1) cops where body armour, 2) putting yourself in harms way is part of the job, and 3) they had a responsibility towards the kid and his family as well as the wider community whom could have been in danger from the child's actions. Whatever the reasons may be, it is also the case that the number of black Americans killed by police is disproportionately higher than white people, compared to the population density. Whatever ethnic group the officer who fired these shots belonged to, that fact goes far enough to suggest institutional racism that we cannot discount it as a factor. I was going to leave this point out, because truthfully I can't remember where I read that statistic, but i suspect that it isn't actually news to anyone, so i believe the point stands even unsupported by a direct source.

No, not by the letter of the law, but i wouldn't be surprised if some target shooting clubs are UKARA registered.

Bars (Snow Leopard) Costume Twilight-2 Frog 58/5 - $83.00 posted ~ profarmy.ru I was after 56-5 but they went out of stock while i was dithering whether to get this or a Jagel pattern Komandor uniform and also trying to figure out how to get it shipped - their webby is all in Russian and not self explanatory - turns out you just need to email 'em. But although the Komador uniform looks seriously cool, in both senses of the word, and the pattern is probably better for UK woodlands, this is more quintessentially Russian. Ooh yeah, and while i was asleep goofbid netted me this: Sabre respirator - £13.70 posted ~ fleabay ( get in there my son!) -
Follow the links i provided - that's what they were for. There's a lot of mythology around LiPo's... and also some outright bollocks. The main thing to note is that the Voltage determines the motor speed, but in the first few milliseconds a motor can draw a very high current (Ampage) to start spinning from stationary and batteries have limit to how much current they can supply, but also how quickly they can ramp up from 0 to their maximum output. LiPo batteries can deliver both a higher maximum current than NiMh and also ramp up to their maximum faster. This means that even a half decent 7.4V LiPo will generally produce a better trigger response than even a good 8.4V NiMh and, over a short burst, the average cycle speed (ie the measureable RPM) will tend to be faster also. But a good 9.6V NiMh, such as a Vapex, will produce a faster complete cycle than a 15 or 20C airsoft 7.4V LiPo, even though the LiPo may make the motor spin faster in the initial few milliseconds. But that will also depend on the resistance of the circuit, so if there is a fuse in the gun and/or the wiring is the standard 20 gauge (and if you didn't have a power handling MOSFET and the trigger switch was pitted through heavy use*), you don't actually get much benefit from the ability of the LiPo to deliver high current quickly. *I take it the MOSFET is wired in with 3 wires on one side and 2 on the other? Once you get the poxy thing sorted out, you can also decrease the resistance by soldering the motor connections and replacing the small Tamiya connectors with Deans - this will benefit the trigger response whether you use NiMh or LiPo batteries, just more so for the latter.

Only 10 guests now - nothing to see here, move along, move along It may seem ridiculous that a retailer who is licensed to sell airguns could sell you an air weapon, literally a gun which has a legally determined minimum and maximum energy and is defined as a weapon, which also looks identical to a firearm, and you would not have to provide any UKARA details or any other form of defence to prevent them from being prosecuted under the VCR Act, the only restriction being that you are 18+, the sale is face to face, and is recorded, yet for something which is a toy (albeit a potentially dangerous one, but legally defined non lethal) and looks like a firearm, you would have to jump through the hoops, yes it may seem ridiculous, and that's because it is. Nonetheless it is the law. Whomever offered that sale to you is offering to break the law, because airsoft guns fall outside the minimum energy required for air weapons. It may seem to you that since it is the seller who can be prosecuted for selling RIF's without ascertaining that they will be used for airsoft, re-enactment, film making, etc, not you the buyer, that you have no reason not to go ahead, but ask yourself, how trustworthy is that retailer when it comes to replacing/fixing a defective gun? Then realise that what s/he is offering to sell you is so shit that you will almost certainly want your money back before long, even if the thing continues to work for more than a couple of thousand shots, which is unlikely. Don't do it. If you want an electric gun on a low budget to plink in your backyard, buy a two tone G&G Combat Machine, CYMA AK, CYMA M14, JG G36 or if you'd prefer something slightly more exotic maybe buy something second hand from our classifieds where, if you check the feedback section, you are likely to find a better class of airsofter than some other forums I could mention, where hardly a week goes by without some arsehole posting fake pictures and/or running off with some poor sod's money (it's not hard for someone to put a fiver's worth of spray paint onto the furniture of a gun and whilst many of us are loath to do it, if something has been on sale for a while and it is not going to embarrass itself in the field by being dragged out in hideous colours in front of airsofters whom it once pwned (some of us become quite emotionally invested in our guns), then you'll be in with a better chance). Alternatively, find out where your nearest site is and give skirmishing a go - it's some of the best fun you can have with your clothes on.

It's called a 'barrel spacer' and its function is to prevent the inner barrel rattling about. There is no reason why you couldn't reuse that one: just slip it over the end of the new longer internal barrel. I'm not an aficionado of wombat machines, but in most guns it's nothing that couldn't be replaced by a few windings of tape, if they have a spacer at all (many don't). Oh hang on... my perspective was screwed up - it's the external barrel you can get them for M4's in plenty of lengths, but they usually have a moulding on one end and a thread on t'other, unless they are made to fit into a front sight assembly which has the muzzle thread on it - are those circular marks where you've taken the moulding and sight assembly off?

Oh right! I saw the Hades projectile and thought, "Holy bottle rocket in the face, Batman, Baz has changed his tune since we were talking about TAGs!" The way to easily set pyros off electrically is with a hot wire - get a piece of the steel wool from a brillo pad and wire it across the ends of 2 core copper wire so that approx 10mm is strung between the copper - connect to a couple of AA's, an 18650, or even a 9V and it'll glow and maybe burn through (with a 9V you are best to use more steel and wrap it around a match head to make sure that even if it does blow it will light the match head and thus ignite the pyro).

OK, G&G Gen 3's are designed to work with 7.4V LiPo's so it could well be that the gb is cycling too fast for the BB's to pop up. The way around this is called a delayer chip, delayer clip, or tappet plate delayer - it's a little thing that clips onto the sector gear so that when the cam peg rotates to pull the tappet plate back, the plate is held back for a few milliseconds longer. There are broadly 2 main types: a brass circle, or a plastic jigsaw piece type shape - IMO the plastic ones are better because you can fit them either way around, which means that the delay happens predominantly before the current set up or after the current set up, which gives you a tuning option - they are also easier to shape if it does not quite fit onto your sector gear (although fuck me if SHS haven't upped the ante and made a steel one). If you're unsure about opening your gearbox, and over t'internet i'm far from certain that my diagnosis is correct, you could try ye olde gremlin defeating strategy of just disassembling the offending parts, cleaning them, greasing where necessary, and reassembling them - this often corrects problems without people really knowing what the issue was. But then again, if your gun is under warranty, you could send it back and have them look at it. Another approach would be to try it with a lower voltage battery and see if that improves BB feed. It may be that the gun getting wet did do something, but it may have just been that running the gun in has increased the cycle speed. I dunno, but from this info, this is my best guess.

You can't expect anyone to 'shoot to wound', it's just unrealistic. When the decision is taken to shoot, the shooter must aim for centre mass, because that gives the highest probability of a hit, which is not just important in the situation at hand, but so that the bullet does not hit somebody else behind, or after ricocheting off something behind. However the BBC news report stated that the kid reached for the gun in his waistband and was shot. That to me is disturbing. He was not pointing it. There was no imminent danger; there was the imminent danger of imminent danger. Clearly the cop who fired either already had his/her pistol out and trained on the kid, or reacted with lightning reflexes and 'outdrew' the kid. Neither of those situations to my mind sit right. Yes, the kid was in the wrong. Yes, it is phenomenally stupid to take anything which even vaguely looks like a gun out in public in the USA, where the prevalence of real steel makes it that much more difficult for cops to doubt that what they are seeing is a gun, but it's not long ago that British cops would routinely confront armed criminals with nothing more than a truncheon and bravery and kids are stupid... I just cannot accept that the stupidity of a child is a justifiable reason to shoot him. And just because something could be a fuck sight worse than it appears, that to my mind is no justification for behaving as if it is that bad. When you're wearing body armour. Being a cop is a difficult job. It takes more bravery than most of us would wish to have to resort to on a regular basis. Er... well... nobody conscripts cops. When you hear hooves outside, you think horses, even though it could be zebras. When you see a child in a playground with what may be a gun, it probably is a toy. It might not be, true. The time to shoot is when it is out and being raised... but he was the bad guy. And, although what Friz said was oversimplified in the extreme, nonetheless the fact that the kid was black may well have contributed to the situation, whether because the cop was an overt racist who deliberately shoots black people whenever s/he knows s/he can get away with it, or whether simply because s/he assumed that being black, the kid was more likely to have real steel than a white kid of the same age.

No, the nozzle position at the end of firing isn't an issue - it's common in guns without MOSFETs for the gearbox cycle to stop part way through when firing full auto. It sounds like a feed issue and unfortunately it has just happened at the same time as it got damp, rather than being caused by it. When the gun fired after the problem first occurred, how was the power? As normal / reduced a bit / reduced a lot? What battery are you using? If you are using a high voltage, and/or a high speed motor, then the gearbox cycle can be so fast that it does not allow BB's to pop up out of the mag before the nozzle is back against the hop rubber - there is an easy fix for this. You should also check that when the mags are inserted the feed from the mag fits properly into the hop chamber feed tube, so that the little latch which holds the BB's back is fully pressed out of the way. When you fit a mag and pull it out, do a few BB's roll out of the hop chamber?
-
Mate, i rarely feel the need to do this, but in the interests of readers who may be just getting into airsoft, WTF are you talking about? How in the name of physics can the electrical circuit cause BB's to misfeed or affect the compression? In fact, HTF can the circuit be the problem when it does fire? It does nobody any good to answer queries when you haven't got a clue what you're on about.

Well TBH i suspect that an arrow will be carrying a lot more energy than a TAG grenade. I'm not sure how efficiently a bowstring converts it's draw weight into momentum in the arrow, but 45lbs is light for a bow...
-
WTF? If you think you may be hit by a TAG in the face, your choice of eyepro and/or half/full face mask is of even more significance... although TBF, there always has been the danger that you might get hit in the face by an exploding MK5, MK9 even, or an accident with a BFG, but TAG's seem to have focussed the mind a bit more.

Hmmmm... you are sure that the BB's are feeding from your mag/s properly? Does it do the same with different mags? It does sound as if the BB's are not getting into the hop chamber, assuming by 'dry firing' you mean firing with an empty hop chamber, rather than just that no BB comes out. If it fires but no BB comes out and it sounds dull (a deeper thud than when you fire a BB usually, and much deeper than the sharper crack of firing with no BB), then it means the BB is getting jammed in the hop unit - check your settings, try turning it the opposite way because you may inadvertantly have it full on. If you get no joy by messing with hop settings, you'll have to disassemble the barrel and hop unit, take the rubber off and inspect it - it may be damaged. It's unlikely to be the gearbox, unless your piston head has failed so badly that you're not getting enough compression to actually fire a BB past the hop. But that is possible. It isn't the gears.

Flashbang grenade accessories, what's your thoughts?

Oops... forgot the field report I attached my 2 to my belt, because I run webbing not a vest. I found that the angle I was pulling from caused the velcro to come undone, so I used a cable tie to hold the 2 of them together and the velcro locked. I found that they held the MK5s plenty tightly enough, even when i used my sniper veil which gets tangled up on my gear very easily, because it's basically a modified piece of camo net, about 80x130cm-ish. In use they make deploying a MK5 a lot faster - I did only use them twice, but both times i was able to get the bang out, lit, and thrown with a lot less fuss than i'm used to. TBH I think that i need to practice to be able to take advantage of just how quickly i could do it. The 2nd throw I went for cover while i pulled and lit it, but truth be told I could have not bothered, which would have given me a 1-1.5s time with the lit bang to concentrate and get my aim better - it did serve the purpose of making the opposition dive for cover so that a team mate could advance to shoot them point blank, but if i had thrown it better i could have got them both... So in short, they are a game changer. The only thing that concerns me is that the lighting strip gets burned, so it will wear out faster than using the strip off the side of a box of Cook's Matches (as the striker on the cap often doesn't last long enough to be useful for me). What's going to be the deal with getting more strips, Chris? -
