  1. 'Fraid not, not a fan of those caplets. I just put on the RS +2 base pad for the ergonomics.
  2. Stark Arms G17 Gen4. Tis' a pretty holster filler/CQB backup.
  3. Don't fall in to the 'upgrade' trap straight away. Upgrade is a misnomer, generally what they should actually be called is 'just different parts' in a large amount of cases. Going to a shop and getting a feel for your options makes sense, but actually use it for at least a couple of games before you try and change bits.
  4. Do you want a gas blowback, electric blowback or plain AEG? What's your budget? Can't give any sort of answer without more info.
  5. Took a long time to dig these up, but finally found some Crye-compatible kneepads in grey. Rather mediocre chinese copies and I don't have the trousers yet, but picked up 2 pairs ready for when I do. Custom made trouser belt covered in loop, to interface with some new FirstSpear outer belts I've got coming that have the velcro hook on the inside. Also a pair of 11.1v LiPos for the ASG Scorpion Evo. And OT, new rig (had my old PC for something like 6 and a half years, so I felt the time was good for an upgrade) came in about 2 weeks ago and I just hooked up the new monitor on monday. Won't list the specs right now as that'll fill up too much thread space.
  6. Pretty cool to see somewhere like that in such a well-done film. They dressed the place up nicely. Though watching that was one of those occasions I do kinda wish I wasn't in to airsoft and firearms. Recognising the chinese-made Ops-core clones, GPNVGs, Viper UBACSs and vests as well as all the RIFs etc does kill the illusion a little bit; doesn't stop it being a good short movie though ofc.
  7. I generally wear a plate carrier, but I don't put plates in it. Due to the simple fact of the way the joints in the human arm are put together, having your mags a bit lower down around the stomach or belt area is generally fastest and most ergonomic for most people. Conversely, the closer a pouch is to your chin, the harder it is to draw from; that's always been my experience anyway. Whatever's most efficient for the wearer.
  8. Ah, they finally got around to cloning the old 5.11/VTAC/Tyr tac designs, wondered when they were going to catch up; good to see. Of the many many belts I've tried, something that can securely attach both PALS pouches and belt-mounted accessories has come to be a requirement over the years. You can get the 5.11 for less: http://www.tactical-kit.co.uk/511-tactical-molle-vtac-brokos-belt-58642-11092-p.asp But no multicam and as far as QC and robustness go, WAS are a fair bit better. Shame they've not included an internal velcro interface, but as long as one has previously run a padded warbelt before and managed to set it up comfortably so it doesn't bounce and change positions as you move, that's not the end of the world.
  9. WE 'make' very very little of their Nuprol line, it's basically just standard ACM/clone stuff stuck in WE packaging.
  10. I'm trying out a sim type game for the first time as well myself shortly, Sennybridge at the very end of October. Certainly interested to see what it's like overall, the types of people that go and maybe to try some other similar games by different companies afterwards just so I have an idea of why people play these sorts of events and the variety that's available (as discussed, there's clearly various 'levels' to the overall notion). For some time I'd only go to sunday games by myself, then I started always going with my brother which was definitely good and I've never massively enjoyed going to any games alone if I'm honest. I've done a couple of the events that Arnies have put on which are around 40 hours long but purely made up of small fun games involving weird and wacky objectives with comparatively little shooting and lots of social with chilled out camping overnight. Ideally I'd quite like to go to that sort of thing a couple of times a year, but I don't think it has the 'cool' factor that most people seem to be looking for, which is a shame. I played at UCAP Sandpit a couple of months back with my brother, another buddy and a ragtag bunch of uni students that I sort of knew-ish through said friend and FB and although the staff at the site were mostly shockingly sh*t with overall terrible games, I ended up having a really good day purely because the group of guys had a similar mindset to me in that they were very much interested in cool gear and guns etc and running around shooting but purely within the fun little delusional realm we create on the BBwrz battlefield. No shouting or getting worked up over the game itself at all, just getting in the action where we could and chilling out inbetween regens etc just generally talking and having a laugh. Overall I find (or at least think of) the whole gameplay aspect of using airsoft weapons to be a sort of watering-hole or binding glue to use for bringing people together and giving us all a common ground and subject to chat about. I'm fairly confident that any group of airsoters who've all been in the game at least a couple of months or more could talk pretty much indefinitely about guns and gear and game styles and sites etc etc etc; there's so many facets to the hobby and things to talk about. So yeah, I'm hoping the sort of slightly enforced-teamwork and 'camping' aspects of a milsim style game vs the average day skirmish will generally lead to more opportunity to speak to people and have those times inbetween pew-pewing to make acquaintances and generally indulge in the aspect of the hobby I really like the most; which is the discussion and social slightly more than the actual shooting and running. I enjoyed boiling up a rat pack with my buddies during the down times on exercises and other similar stuff I've done so far in my work, but there aren't a huge amount of airsofters in the forces and while I like a lot of the people I work with that's more of a coincidence than anything, because often we don't have anything in common other than the job itself.
  11. I'm honestly surprised you've managed to get through extended all-outdoor games with the kit shown and not been, at best, very uncomfortable. IMHO, no clothing system is fit for purpose without a hardshell layer and a loft insulation layer; all standard issue stuff with many militaries for good reason. The vast majority of softshells are not waterproof (never seen one that was tbh), neither are issue smocks; hell water will get through goretex under the right circumstances. My issued softy jacket and goretex jacket are by far my most valued items whenever I've gone on any exercise or detachment. I don't rate cotton t-shirts for airsoft either, any clothing item with cotton content will be poor at sweat wicking and hence slow to dry once wet, plus it'll be cold once it gets wet; synthetics wick and dry substantially better and wicking is the main thing you need in your base layer. Good video overall and I liked watching it. I think there's some good advice on food, water, eye pro, boots and sleeping kit (most of the main priorities), backpacks, bringing plenty of spares, transport options and I think your choice tac gear is solid. To my mind your clothing is a bit lacking in some areas, but that's the only 'criticism' I might have really. Not saying it doesn't work for you and I'd imagine it does so that's fine, but if I were giving advice to people for a kitlist that's just where I'd differ as to my mind the kit in the video would only really suffice for summer use. Maybe that was the intention? I may have just missed something if so.
  12. I'm yet to see an airsoft red dot that doesn't need batteries, almost all dot sights do (including the vast majority of the real ones).
  13. -ICS M1 Garand -ASG Scorpion Evo 3 A1 -Extra Scorpion mags x 3 -0.2s for CQB games -'Green gas' for when I need something more portable than colemans propane -Dytac BCM Gunfighter AEG pistol grip -2 Form of Velcro one wrap for testing with various gear (HSGI have pissed me off)
  14. I wasn't referring to the conversation in this thread, which is obviously an error on my part; my mistake on that one. On a different forum we talked about an airsoft Minimi that weighs more than the real one, it was a while back though and I can't remember the details of the brand or stock/barrel setup.
  15. A fair few RIFs weigh more than the RS, because the insides are absolutely packed out 100% with the parts necessary with no spare room at all. A firearm has lots of empty space inside for things to move about. Obviously airsoft guns that don't mimic the original in certain ways which are only made possible by the lack of an exploding cartridge are the main exception. But a pot metal AR-15 receiver set will weight more than a quality RS aluminium AR receiver set (for example). It'd take a long time to elaborate on all the comparisons between different parts and materials, but the Minimi is a good example of airsoft weighing more than the firearm (depending on brand and setup of course).
  16. Well, ok that's your personal choice and if you really want to do things that way then that's entirely up to you, it doesn't affect anyone else so I have no qualm with it. But, imho, when we're discussing these things with people who're new to airsoft (of which this board has many) we should all encourage fiscal responsibility, which is why I said what I said.
  17. Now that's the one new-player-stereotype trap you do not want to fall in to.
  18. That explains it, I was about to say it looks too good for any of the guys making them in this country, heh. I just followed them on FB the other week, I'd imagine it'll serve you well in game.
  19. Yeah that's a RIF right there, how the fuck any store thinks that's at least 50% I do not know. I can only presume they put the colour blind guy in the painting department. Shit like that is just another opportunity for the powers that be to say "look they're not following the law!" and clamp down even harder. What does being U18 have to do with two-tone anyway? Do you mean your parents, who presumably don't have VCRA defences, had to buy it?
  20. If everything else fits right now, then it won't when you get a difference size glove. I'd stick with what you have if most areas are fitting correctly.
  21. Most people I see starting out who've zero knowledge of military kit and don't seek advice from more knowledgeable folks end up with most awful looking chinese knock-offs imaginable, the types of vests and armour carriers that literally fall apart at the seams 2 games in and rub the wearer raw in all the wrong places through the absurdly cheap knock-off fabrics and poor workmanship. Generally they're meant to be multicam but just look like a mixture of barbie pink and phlegm. That classic old assault vest design has been around for donkeys but it's a brilliant option to this day if you just need load carriage without the armour; rugged as hell, water-proof materials (at least the issue ones built the same as PLCE should be), light, well ventilated and a plethora of well placed pockets. The only real down-sides are the old 'spanish fly' buckles not being ideal and the fact they're so damn big in order to go over some of the old issue body armour.
  22. That's a steal right there, even if it were pretty heavily used. I hope you're a fairly big lad though because those things never adjust very small, heh (not that it's the end of the world, especially for £4 as a first purchase).
  23. As in, what would people suggest specifically for airsoft skirmishing as far as some kinda vest/rig goes? Depends entirely on your budget and the look you want. As a starting point, a simple chest rig from either BULLE at flecktarn.co.uk or Warrior at uktactical.com.
  24. Slabs of flat black stand out nicely in most environments. Amongst the military units where painting of weapons is allowed, doing so is common place for the exact same reasons they all wear camouflage uniforms and plate carriers/pouches etc. Desert-y type paint jobs are the most common by far, which shouldn't be any surprise to anyone because all the US/UK/other ISAF SF types have been fighting in Iraq and Afghan constantly for well over a decade. All seems very obvious to me.
