  1. Bolt action long range rifle by Desert Tech. Nothing to do with the AUG select fire carbine made by Steyr. http://deserttech.com/guns/dta-srs-sniper-rifle-chassis.html
  2. Well obviously they vary a lot by organiser and location, but I think if you boil it down end of the day it's just a skirmish that's snorted a mixture of gunpowder and roids. It's sort of like everything's magnified, the only real downside is you'll get the massive d-bags amongst the players who are even worse than the d-bags you get on your standard walk-on day. I never had anything more than a very mild, temporary disagreement with anybody throughout the event but I had to overhear a fair bit of shouting and BS both in our camping area and out on the field. But it boils down to grown adults who, like tiny toddlers, are unable to recognise when they're tired and tone down their response to things when an incident riles them up far worse than it should have. There's nothing specific to milsim about that though, anything I've ever done in the military where people have gotten tired they started being d***ks at inappropriate times because they lacked the maturity to control themselves. Luckily my squad was a really good bunch and we got really stuck in, but made sure to take plenty of rest whenever the opportunity arose as well. You're still playing with a bunch of untrained people and no plan survives contact with the enemy so it's never going to play out like in the movies, but the teamplay I experienced was overall far more cohesive than a skirmish day, which is the main thing you'll get out of a milsim. Tons and tons of pyro and wacky weapons systems floating around, so when things do kick off (and you'll spend very large amounts of time slowly patrolling and hiding in the undergrowth) they generally kick off big time. Never seen so much smoke and so many bangs. Realistically I could write pages and pages, but those were the things that stuck out to me. The Warzone Battle Sim guys certainly seemed to be a good bunch, I'd go to another of their events.

  4. I used patch-craft a while back, not sure if Keith Brown is still running that since he moved over to making the Alpha-Tec grenades. The stuff he's done for me has always been good, but I'd caution you to google him with regards 'Airsoft machine shop' and some previous other businesses. I'll leave you to make your own conclusions.
  5. Erm, nooo... if that were the case, there'd be NV Go-Pro footage literally everywhere. I've not looked at pricing just lately, but I'm sure if you go over to amazon you'll find it all out easily enough.
  6. Hm.. another BFG I think, maybe one of the Alpha-Tecs (big maybe). Actually no it'll probably be another storage cupboard so I actually have space for all the airsoft shit I can't stop buying for myself.
  7. Yeah go with what Greg said. You won't get an action cam with night vision without spending thousands though, so check that one off.
  8. Loadout that's rather different from usual skirmish gear at some milsim over the weekend. Blanked out for awful, awful grin I was pulling.
  9. Interesting, that'd explain it, cheers. Guess they're getting a new colour in.
  10. Final prep and stuff arriving for my 'don't knock it 'til you've tried it' foray in to a milsim this weekend. Don't think it was a mistake seeing as the invoice was also in the box with the correct items highlighted through (presumably as they were packed in the warehouse). £20 pouch, they're not on sale or anything and I've no need for it so I'll have to message them and see what the deal is. Interesting to take a close look at anyway, I've not bought much of their stuff in a while now but I'll still recommend them to most people so I like to keep an eye on their materials and stitching.
  11. This week's deliveries. Some foul weather, medical and other load bearing kit from the states; big delivery from Go Outdoors for camping supplies for milsim and my KWA LM4 came back after getting a lot of TLC and nice machine work done by a bloke I know who's a serious whizz with both GBBRs and a lathe/mill. I'll break apart the packages and post it all later on.
  12. I don't think I've even tried plinking it yet, let alone a game; I just wanted a realistic looking Gen4 in the collection. Never touched a WE Glock either, so I couldn't compare. Unfortunately I get asked these things a lot and my replies are always high on the chocolate-fireguard scale on account of playing maybe 2-4 games a year on average and when I do go, I'll usually take a stock TM for a pistol. I can tell you the first of my 2 'Cybergun' (which is VFC and therefore should also be Stark) M&P9s has seriously lacking range and gas efficiency, but the Stark Glocks do get higher praise than the M&Ps. If you were to press me on a choice I'd say WE because the Starks are kinda TM spec on some bits but not 100%, meaning there's only so much you can change parts wise (in the event you got one that wasn't shooting so great). Neither is the ideal base to build an awesome looking and functioning gat, so yeah... flip a coin tbh, heh. Though that said, I think Stark did a bunch of the 'premium' G19s with steel slides and generally better stuff throughout. Might be worth looking in to.
  13. 'Fraid not, not a fan of those caplets. I just put on the RS +2 base pad for the ergonomics.
  14. Stark Arms G17 Gen4. Tis' a pretty holster filler/CQB backup.
  15. Don't fall in to the 'upgrade' trap straight away. Upgrade is a misnomer, generally what they should actually be called is 'just different parts' in a large amount of cases. Going to a shop and getting a feel for your options makes sense, but actually use it for at least a couple of games before you try and change bits.
  16. Do you want a gas blowback, electric blowback or plain AEG? What's your budget? Can't give any sort of answer without more info.
  17. Took a long time to dig these up, but finally found some Crye-compatible kneepads in grey. Rather mediocre chinese copies and I don't have the trousers yet, but picked up 2 pairs ready for when I do. Custom made trouser belt covered in loop, to interface with some new FirstSpear outer belts I've got coming that have the velcro hook on the inside. Also a pair of 11.1v LiPos for the ASG Scorpion Evo. And OT, new rig (had my old PC for something like 6 and a half years, so I felt the time was good for an upgrade) came in about 2 weeks ago and I just hooked up the new monitor on monday. Won't list the specs right now as that'll fill up too much thread space.
  18. Pretty cool to see somewhere like that in such a well-done film. They dressed the place up nicely. Though watching that was one of those occasions I do kinda wish I wasn't in to airsoft and firearms. Recognising the chinese-made Ops-core clones, GPNVGs, Viper UBACSs and vests as well as all the RIFs etc does kill the illusion a little bit; doesn't stop it being a good short movie though ofc.
  19. I generally wear a plate carrier, but I don't put plates in it. Due to the simple fact of the way the joints in the human arm are put together, having your mags a bit lower down around the stomach or belt area is generally fastest and most ergonomic for most people. Conversely, the closer a pouch is to your chin, the harder it is to draw from; that's always been my experience anyway. Whatever's most efficient for the wearer.
  20. Ah, they finally got around to cloning the old 5.11/VTAC/Tyr tac designs, wondered when they were going to catch up; good to see. Of the many many belts I've tried, something that can securely attach both PALS pouches and belt-mounted accessories has come to be a requirement over the years. You can get the 5.11 for less: http://www.tactical-kit.co.uk/511-tactical-molle-vtac-brokos-belt-58642-11092-p.asp But no multicam and as far as QC and robustness go, WAS are a fair bit better. Shame they've not included an internal velcro interface, but as long as one has previously run a padded warbelt before and managed to set it up comfortably so it doesn't bounce and change positions as you move, that's not the end of the world.
  21. WE 'make' very very little of their Nuprol line, it's basically just standard ACM/clone stuff stuck in WE packaging.
  22. I'm trying out a sim type game for the first time as well myself shortly, Sennybridge at the very end of October. Certainly interested to see what it's like overall, the types of people that go and maybe to try some other similar games by different companies afterwards just so I have an idea of why people play these sorts of events and the variety that's available (as discussed, there's clearly various 'levels' to the overall notion). For some time I'd only go to sunday games by myself, then I started always going with my brother which was definitely good and I've never massively enjoyed going to any games alone if I'm honest. I've done a couple of the events that Arnies have put on which are around 40 hours long but purely made up of small fun games involving weird and wacky objectives with comparatively little shooting and lots of social with chilled out camping overnight. Ideally I'd quite like to go to that sort of thing a couple of times a year, but I don't think it has the 'cool' factor that most people seem to be looking for, which is a shame. I played at UCAP Sandpit a couple of months back with my brother, another buddy and a ragtag bunch of uni students that I sort of knew-ish through said friend and FB and although the staff at the site were mostly shockingly sh*t with overall terrible games, I ended up having a really good day purely because the group of guys had a similar mindset to me in that they were very much interested in cool gear and guns etc and running around shooting but purely within the fun little delusional realm we create on the BBwrz battlefield. No shouting or getting worked up over the game itself at all, just getting in the action where we could and chilling out inbetween regens etc just generally talking and having a laugh. Overall I find (or at least think of) the whole gameplay aspect of using airsoft weapons to be a sort of watering-hole or binding glue to use for bringing people together and giving us all a common ground and subject to chat about. I'm fairly confident that any group of airsoters who've all been in the game at least a couple of months or more could talk pretty much indefinitely about guns and gear and game styles and sites etc etc etc; there's so many facets to the hobby and things to talk about. So yeah, I'm hoping the sort of slightly enforced-teamwork and 'camping' aspects of a milsim style game vs the average day skirmish will generally lead to more opportunity to speak to people and have those times inbetween pew-pewing to make acquaintances and generally indulge in the aspect of the hobby I really like the most; which is the discussion and social slightly more than the actual shooting and running. I enjoyed boiling up a rat pack with my buddies during the down times on exercises and other similar stuff I've done so far in my work, but there aren't a huge amount of airsofters in the forces and while I like a lot of the people I work with that's more of a coincidence than anything, because often we don't have anything in common other than the job itself.
  23. I'm honestly surprised you've managed to get through extended all-outdoor games with the kit shown and not been, at best, very uncomfortable. IMHO, no clothing system is fit for purpose without a hardshell layer and a loft insulation layer; all standard issue stuff with many militaries for good reason. The vast majority of softshells are not waterproof (never seen one that was tbh), neither are issue smocks; hell water will get through goretex under the right circumstances. My issued softy jacket and goretex jacket are by far my most valued items whenever I've gone on any exercise or detachment. I don't rate cotton t-shirts for airsoft either, any clothing item with cotton content will be poor at sweat wicking and hence slow to dry once wet, plus it'll be cold once it gets wet; synthetics wick and dry substantially better and wicking is the main thing you need in your base layer. Good video overall and I liked watching it. I think there's some good advice on food, water, eye pro, boots and sleeping kit (most of the main priorities), backpacks, bringing plenty of spares, transport options and I think your choice tac gear is solid. To my mind your clothing is a bit lacking in some areas, but that's the only 'criticism' I might have really. Not saying it doesn't work for you and I'd imagine it does so that's fine, but if I were giving advice to people for a kitlist that's just where I'd differ as to my mind the kit in the video would only really suffice for summer use. Maybe that was the intention? I may have just missed something if so.
  24. I'm yet to see an airsoft red dot that doesn't need batteries, almost all dot sights do (including the vast majority of the real ones).
