I've always had an eye for a bargain (read that as "tight-fisted" or "scrimping to the point of stupidity"), and that was when I was earning well. I'm on a relatively low paid job now for the foreseeable future, so shopping at the cheap or bargain bin end of the spectrum is going to be a necessity now, sadly. I'll look at those more expensive options, given your recommendation that they will retain value, but that might be a bit illusory if I'm buying them on a credit card and paying a lot of interest on 'em!

The cqb site that was supposed to have opened shortly after I started this thread is finally getting close to actually opening. As I've won a multi-shot grenade in a raffle, there'll definitely be some loud bangs happening, so I'll be buying some ear protection. The ear plugs I bought haven't really impressed me, they seem to block approximately bugger-all noise! I think a pair of Howard Leight Impact Sports are in order. I checked on eBay, there are ones that are definitely kosher for £65 and up, but also a bunch that look the same, but are only £25-35. I take it these are Chinese knock-offs that should be avoided? I went with the ebay one, cos 1. I've already got the account set up 2. Cheap. 3. I currently have so many toolboxes, tool drawers, tool bags, and plastic boxes containing more tools, that I quite often end up buying things I'm sure I already own but cannot locate. However, a crimping tool has definitely never been purchased. (I did check the two wire stripping tools I own in case they also did crimping duties, but alas not) So yeah, guess I'll do it 🥴

You gotta watch Mighty Boosh Surreal humour, loved it, got the box set etc Well, I thought I'd give the crimping a go as I found my best needle-nose pliers. I've not had much luck... perhaps all this talk of 'over crimping' has meant I've not 'fully committed', but the damned spade connector is never on tight enough to survive any manipulation. I have got the motor to run though, I did get a good enough connection to do that... but when trying to fiddle the wires into place in the grip, it came off again. Is the fact I've got a multi-strand core the problem? Do I need to tin it with my soldering iron for best results?

Very cheap from Amazon) Assortment of screwdrivers Anti fog wipes AR tool (for stock nut, barrel etc) Loctite thread lock glue (low strength) to fix stock nuts coming undone on both my DE and VFC Lubricants (silicone grease and oil) Chrono Battery tester (for LiPos) Spare batteries (AA, AAA, CR2032 etc) as I often forget to turn off a sight after test-firing at home Spare nuts and bolts (needed to fix MOLLE mounting on my mag pouches)

It's a good idea. You'll want an unjamming rod somewhere in there, just in case, but here's my kit (which does move away from 'tools' towards 'accessories' I admit...) (It spans both a tool box, and a tool bag which lives inside my rucksack. The latter also holds my ammo and gas and goes to the game zone. I will take care with the crimp but my soldering 'skills' would likely be worse than anything I do with some pliers! (I am trying quite hard to avoid spending £15 on a crimp tool that I won't get much use out of)

I'll have to check whether my wire stripper tool can also crimp... But can't a decent pair of needle nose pliers in my highly skilled hands not do the job?

One of the female spade connectors to connect from the gun to the motor has broken in my Classic Army M15... I went off to Halfords and bought the smallest one they had, but it's still mahoosive compared to the diddy litle thing on the other wire. I'd say it's about 2.5 or 3mm across by memory. (Stupidly I didn't actually measure it when I had the pistol grip apart) I presume Amazon or eBay will be the best place to go (in the absence of bricks'n'mortar Maplin's stores :sniff:) but can someone let me know the absolutely-definitely-no-doubt-about-it correct size to order? Yes you can definitely play with just a couple of mags and a speedloader, it adds some extra jeopardy to the proceedings, makes it more exciting 😋 I bought a specialised adapter from eBay for my VFC 416 mags. I think it made loading slightly easier. Of more importance is the quality of the speedloader. The cheapest ones won't even feed BBs reliable through their own mechanism. The slightly better ones will struggle to push BBs against a strong spring. The best ones work as you'd hope. I have one like that, but damned if I know what brand it is. I believe the g&g speedloader is rated very highly, I've not bought one yet but it's on my shopping list!

I went through 10kg, so ~35,000 of their 0.28g bio BBs with no issues, so yeah 👍 Someone else on here did some scientific testing (consistency, accuracy) to compare different brands, and they came out of that very well too... Yeah, no one wants to spend money on expensive BBs, but we do, because it's a bad place to scrimp. Once you've experienced a gun with BBs jammed in the barrel, you'll pay extra not to ever have it happen again. Luckily, in these days, it seems most BBs are good enough, and it's only the very cheapest that are still rubbish. Those ASGs are probably fine...? If you can afford to buy in bulk then Warhead will be good, and you'll be playing very little more per bag. You definitely need to check whether your local site insists on bio's though. You'll not be allowed to play if a diligent marshal finds you're using non-bio where bio have been mandated. Edit: in fact Warhead BBs are the same price for a 1kg bag of non bios, though I didn't compare the postage. It's sometimes worth trying eBay for somewhere with free p&p.

Yeah far cry 2 is a minor classic. So is far cry 3 as it gives some problems with 2. Neither are perfect but still really quite excellent If you're in the market for older games, battlefield 4 gave me many hundreds of hours of multiplayer fun, it's still going strong. In fact all the recent bf games are good. The newest, 2042, is now a decent game after a really rocky start.
