  1. I've swapped all my working guns into the loft for their Xmas holidays, and bought down a couple of not working / needs work toys to meddle with instead. One of them is my first ever airsoft gat, a Ye Olden Times TM AK47-S It's taken a bit of a battering over the years, but a set of Cyma polymer 'modern style' grip and furniture have spruced it up. I've test fired it with a new-ish mag I bought from Action Hobbies boneyard sale on Saturday, and it's still ticking along at a smooth-but-slow 12 rps on a 7.4v LiPo, and a surprisingly high 265 fps with 0.28's... so not too shabby. It needs a couple of bits though: 1) That stupid little plastic cover that fits onto the gearbox to stop mud and rain and snow and mice getting into the gears from behind the trigger 2) Stock release button. It's just the top bit, the swivel mechanism still works, but without the thumb pad part it's quite hard to push in. I've searched for both on t'net, but my Google-Fu seems lacking today, I've had no luck - any idea where I can source these (or does anyone have boneyard bits they can sell me?) Cheers!
  2. If Santa wins the bloody euro millions tomorrow night, then most of the VFC GBB catalogue will be winging it's way to sunny Milton Keynes! He could stuff a sniper rifle into a very long stocking too... The new Novritsch L96 V2 would be good
  3. Before the boneyard opened up on the site, Paul had posted pics on Facebook... I'd spotted a TM HK416D NGRS and thought I might have a go for that. And then I found out the mags are proprietary, and that put me off. And when it showed up it was £350, just a bit too much to tempt me. So the G3 got the love on the rebound 😋😘😄 Still wish I'd got the Galil, but buying anything was silly really, I've packed everything into the loft except for the guns that need fixing / selling! It is a handsome gat though...
  4. Found this little thing at Ant Supplies at a bargain price... it should be enough to hold the 4x32 air rifle scope I have (it's very light weight) https://www.ant-supplies.uk/scope-ring-mounts/weaver-picatinny-ring-mounts/weaver-rings-qr-one-piece.html
  5. Impulse purchase ahoy. Thanks very much Paul @ Action Hobbies for tempting me into yet another toy I don't need! JG G3, set up as DMR, so semi-auto only. I was worried when I found it was all-plastic, but those fears were unfounded tbh, it is very solidly put together. The motor turns over reasonably nicely on the stick 7.4v LiPo that fits easily in the foregrip. It was upgraded at Combat South apparently, and they rewired to Deans already, which saves me some ham-fisted soldering A few test shots down the garden proved it shoots nicely. Chrono'd at 320fps with 0.28g BBs so it's not exactly breathing fire. I guess I won't know how good it'll work on the field for a while now, but I'll be tempted to stick in a weaker spring so I can get rid of the DMR's MED and just play it as a normal gat. The little RIS rail .... hmmm, how am I supposed to fit a scope on there? I guess I need some sort of cantilever mount? I like the HK iron sights, so maybe it'll stay as it is. It feels damned cool though!
  6. If it's new then I'd send it back rather than hoping to fix it. You might have to argue your case quite strongly with the retailer as not many have a good rep at handling warranty issues. Where did you get it from?
  7. @MrTea In the (now) unlikely event I undo my purchase, do you want me to get Paul to hold on to it for you?
  8. A good day at Special Ops on Saturday... last of the year - probably last woodland skirmish there until the middle of February or even March because Carlos is going to concentrate on getting the second site (CQB) up-and-running for the start of February. Maybe @Dan Robinson will fill in about the gameplay (props to him for a game-winning smoke grenade in the VIP round) , but personally I enjoyed this one quite a bit more than the previous visit. This time I did bag some really nice kills, made some memorable pushes, and generally had a nice chat with lots of people between rounds. Had a few problems with my kit though: The DE M906C was noticeably screechy - my fault as I'd attempted a motor swap the previous day. Tweaking the motor height and even removing and re-inserting the motor didn't help. And it stopped working altogether in the late afternoon (duff battery due to the cold?) It's all working fine now, and doesn't sound toooo bad, so I think the weather really might have to shoulder some of the blame. Dunno, guv. The TM AUG HC showed a low velocity at chrono - just the 220 fps with 0.28's, but when the DE decided to stop playing ball, the AUG stepped up and proved that TM really do spread some magic dust in their internals - I still managed to get kills at respectable range with it. And the noise of it spitting out BB's at ~20rps turns heads in the right way. It's a cracking gun, thanks @Asomodai for selling it to me The Tippmann didn't get a run out after showing some promise when I was prepping my kit... that's documented here And my goggles spent a lot of the day fogged up, in spite of two applications of No Fog. The extreme cold, plus my mesh face mask deflecting my breath into them overwhelmed their usual fog resistance. Perhaps I'll get a pair of mesh goggles as backup. Is @heroshark still making them? Roll on next year!
  9. Apologies if this is boring-as-shit, but I feel I have to document this as I seem to be very good at learning stuff about this gun, going a few months without touching it, forgetting some of that information, and having to start (effectively) from scratch. So, having said that - good news... I meddled with the RoF valve and the power output valve, and by hook / crook / sheer luck the darned thing started to fire better on semi AND full auto. I took it along to the skirmish on Saturday really actually hoping to use it 'in anger' for the very first time. (People have told me that Tippmann's are finicky to set up, it looks like you need to balance the valve settings for them to work together properly) Well, the hop up just still wouldn't play ball, so it got left on the bench. The best I got it was that out of 10 BB's fired, 5 or 6 would hit the sky, 1 or 2 would fly flat, and the rest would arc towards the ground. But I've now made some more progress. I've tweaked the RoF and power even further so it's now spitting out 0.28's at 290fps, showing a great deal more consistency. And the RoF has bumped to (guesstimate) 15rps. I took the hop cylinder out z and looking closely at it I realized it has, I think, a custom nub. Instead of the 'pencil eraser' lump ,shown on the photo of the stock unit above, it's got a shape rather like a horse's saddle with a shallower 'ramp' on one side than the other. It's like an even fancier version of an Omega nub. I think I've now oriented it correctly (it rotates freely on the unit, so there's every chance it wasn't straight-on originally). The TDC adjustment screw now works smoothly and with a consistent resistance when adjusting it, because I also oriented the cylinder to ensure the grub screw engages with a recess within the groove (not shown in pic, unfortunately), so there's no longer any chance the unit will be rotated instead of increasing or decreasing the height of the nub. Annoyingly I won't have the option of checking the true accuracy of the gat at skirmish range until next year, but I guess if I get all the BB's hitting within a few inches at 15m then it'll prove the hop is properly engaged... tomorrow will be the first chance to have a try at that. I'm really excited because, damn it, this thing is really fun to shoot Edit: Fecklity-feck, it really seems to be working! I can now adjust hop successfully - it'll over-hop 0.28's visibly at 15m, and I can dial it all out or even - get this - set it correctly. So it groups! I have a usable Tippmann at last. Yay! My joy is unconfined!
  10. I have no room for that sadly, my spare guns stay in the loft 😔 I ought to thin out my collection somewhat, but that's not going so well 😂 Congrats on buying the SIG btw, I would have been sorely tempted by that (too?!?) if I didn't already have a JG version that I bought as a boneyard from AH, and which is now working pretty well
  11. Yeah I know!!! Now stop rubbing salt into the wound 🥴 Oh you pedant!. You know what I mean, one of the reviews described it as Mattel Barbie plastic 😂 Still, I'm glad to hear it's actually solid.
  12. Well, well, well. The dam broke and I impulse-purchased a gun for the first time in a while. The annoying thing is I probably bought the wrong gun Ok, rewind to last night. Big boneyard sale on at Action Hobbies, I spotted two gats I've had a long-term hankering for - A Cyma Galil with a few mags at £110, and a JG G3 set up as a DMR (and with a collapsible stock and optic mount) for £100. I stuck both in my cart but then only went ahead with the G3 (because DMR = different from my sub 350fps AR collection, and the G3 is on my "Hot Gats" list) Oops. What I didn't realize was that the G3 is all plastic. Lightweight can be advantage (especially when it's a long gun), but ... hmmm. Long guns give plenty of leverage potential - I'd prefer polymer or metal to give it at least a fighting chance of not getting snapped in half when I clumsily run into a tree! Meanwhile the Galil is a tasty thing, and when I saw one a while ago, I really wanted it. I can only ascribe dumping the Galil in favour of the G3 as a brain-fart. In my defence I expected the G3 to be a bit more substantial than it is, and when I checked reviews and comments here I see it's actually rather liked for what it is. So maybe not a totally stupid purchase! Anyway - two questions for the Hive Mind, given that I'm due to collect the gat tomorrow. 1) Has anyone backed out of / returned a purchase from AH's Boneyard sale? I don't know if Distance Selling regulations apply fully to second-hand gear. I accept the 'no warranty, sold as seen' disclaimer because AH haven't sold me a pile of shite (as yet), and Paul who runs it seems a good chap, but perhaps I should jump out of the deal if possible. 2) Is the JG G3 worth running with? Will it disappoint me, or is £100 a sensible amount for the RIF (firing at ~420fps, semi locked, optic mount, 2 high caps)? As to whoever got the Galil...
  13. Hi there and welcome. Yeah, it's tricky to discern much difference - you could always give them a call and let them point out the differences. (Of course it looks like one is in stock, and one isn't - you might find one has replaced the other in Specna's product list)
  14. The camera is level, it's the house that's on the piss - it got hit by that magnitude 7 earthquake! Press F to pay respect
  15. I may have been lucky, but running around the woods I've been fine with just a camo baseball cap. Occasionally it gets snagged on a branch and comes off (which halts my start-of-round-run-to-get-shot-first), but it's enough protection from getting scraped or scratched, and does enough to soften the BB impacts. I use a Tigris One mesh mask with the ear impact protection. It's pretty good. And although I've already got tinnitus, I've only had one pyro go off near enough to worry about. So I bought some army surplus earplugs (which I'm saving for CQB) GL&HF
  16. ... Need more gats, tbqh 😂😂😂
  17. Ah well that's good news then, maybe their website is just out of whack with reality 😄
  18. Looked at the Novritsch web site, and here's a stupid thing: they won't ship the 1.5j version to the UK, only the 1.18j, as if the thing was full auto. Which it isn't, it's semi locked. I'm not going to buy a 0.20g 350fps semi auto rifle unless I'm really worried about MED, and that'd negate the point of running a super accurate long range rifle... Bah humbug.
  19. Yeah it's the SOCOM version. They have the URGI, which is much more comparable really, at £550, so that's a big enough gap to swing it back in DE's favour.
  20. This popped up on my feed. As someone who often likes the idea of owning a DMR but is aware I'd probably fail to tech one for myself, this looks rather appealing! Also, I have a bit of thing for thumb-hole stocks, ever since the BSA Buccaneer was a thing (and the L96 too).
  21. It's not unexpected behaviour is it, but regardless, £450 is a good price. It certainly makes anyone picking between the Double Eagle clone and an MWS in a bit more of a conundrum
  22. If there's a good deal it sort of becomes news 😉 I could've put it in general discussion I guess, mods feel free to move it Edit: Defcon have some decent reductions on TM gats... so if you're after an MWS or an NGRS it's worth a look...? https://www.defconairsoft.co.uk/clearance-2/?swoof=1&product_brand=tokyo-marui
