  1. I’ve got a question about headsets: got a pair of Motorola Talkabout T80 and with Earmor M32 headsets they transmit properly but the volume on the receiving end is seriously low, barely noticeable despite both transceivers being set to full volume (headsets too). Could those PMRs be just simply underpowered? I have a personal license so could buy proper radios, but prefer not to replace them without a good reason, as they are solid otherwise.
  2. It’s all organic, baby! 😎 In all seriousness, web stuff is what I do professionally, and SEO is not black magic. I’m still not 100% happy with the effect, but it’s been a few good months, and the compounding effect of building good, quality content people actually rely on has paid off. I have way more in store for 2022, as there are some glaring shortcomings of having a static website as opposed to something more dynamic and player-focused. But that’s something for another topic on this forum. Not objectively, no. It’s just a contest to see which sites are trending in players minds, see regional spread, which regions are more active online, that sort of stuff. Technically, if you got enough friends you could skew the results, so… 🤪 It’s not really going to reach the numbers I’ve had during the initial player survey, but it’s a good indicator of “engagement vs traffic”, as I currently cannot measure this reliably. It also tests aptitude for more complex ideas in the future. A - Always B - Be T - Testing And just like that you’ve got an inside scoop into this whole thing. Ain’t being on a niche hobby forum informative at times? I thought this internet thing was made for watching cat videos, social media and playing video games. 🤣🤣🤣
  3. Is this a number of Baofengs you’re currently burning through? Are they so crap you need to buy a regiment of them just in case? 🙃
  4. @Cannonfodder You assume that my primary audience for this contest is this forum and its members. That’s incorrect. It’s a distribution channel in this case. I also posted on social media and in about 1-2 days this will be all over search engines too, not a lot of traffic, but way more than this forum can muster alone. I just wanted everyone to join in and have their say, so why would I exclude you guys? Joining in is an option, and your participation is very much welcome. I wish I could offer some free merch instead of just a “thanks for taking part,” but sadly, I don’t have a few hundred quid laying around to spend on tees, caps and badges. Yet. You’re right. But again, this isn’t the goal. I have more reliable ideas for determining what the best airsoft site is, and it doesn’t involve people’s subjective ratings or loyalty to a given site, or distinguishing between a good or bad game day. 😉
  5. Following the same logic, The Game Awards and other similar contests are also pointless, because nobody is capable of playing absolutely every single game to have skin in the game. Or watch a movie. Or try every recipe. Of course it's a subjective popularity contest. The point is to find out which sites are the most favourable among the online community. That's why it's called "Player's Choice". I could tell you objectively which sites are most popular based on the traffic on PlayAirsoft, but that would be also a biased representative, since it's algorithmically driven by search engines with plenty of queries for some specific sites. In the end, feel free to ignore this whole thing. If you don't think your vote might be representative due to a particular viewpoint, I have no objection there, but let's not make it into something bigger than it is. Some things are not made to be super serious. As a hobby niche we've been hit with enough crap over the last two years to put a lot of dedicated players down, to the detriment of the sport. It's not like I'm suddenly going to start slapping "recommendation" badges based on random online polls, which are subjective by nature. It's not a meaningful metric of excellence by any standard. The contest was created to raise awareness of airsoft, airsoft organisers, see what players think is best, bring us together, maybe entice organisers to start paying attention to player standards in the near future, etc. Lots of positive points to consider to bring us together. We've had enough divisions in the past two years.
  6. Hey, folks! It’s been a while since I actively posted anything on the forum, and with 2021 being a thing of the past, I thought it would be cool to celebrate the plentiful of airsoft sites in the UK with a little Player’s Choice contest for the best (in your opinion) site in the UK. You can read the announcement on PlayAirsoft blog: https://playairsoft.uk/blog/2021-airsoft-site-of-the-year Also, to save you a click, you can vote here: https://airtable.com/shrDNnHOIHkgV5XZb I’m hoping that in 2022 we can revive airsoft as 2021 has been an all-round tough year for both players and hosts/organisers alike due to restrictions and lockdowns, let alone supply chain/import issues. Voting closes on Friday, 28/01/2022, and the winner (and runner-ups) will be announced the following Monday, 31/01/2022. PS. You can only vote for sites in PlayAirsoft database, so if there’s one you can’t find there yet, you can submit it via this little form: https://airtable.com/shrpMw7Xx1UiVErke
  7. Of course you can get an adapter, but you can also easily rewire your plug and swap it from mini tamiya to deans, to get the full benefit of deans stability. You can also rewire the battery plug, but be careful not to short-circuit the LiPo while doing so, i.e: do one wire at a time.
  8. I considered I had similar thoughts about my TM HK45, and even bought an upgrades for barrel and hop rubber, but ultimately decided against it. The pistol is as good as it is stock, don’t wanna ruin it.
  9. @Jaylordofwaargh I used OpenWeatherMap API, because it's very easy to use and free for what I need to do with it. It also delivers accurate forecasts and data, so there it is.
  10. If it's a total blackout game, then it's going to be chaos and screaming (literally). That is, unless you got one of these 💷150 worth of NVGs that would give you tactical advantage. If it's a semi-dark game, then expect to be confused and taking longer to id your targets properly, but it should be fun in low-light conditions, or even better with intermittent lighting. Flashlights are your best friend and your enemy, it's a double-edged sword, so use caution and deploy flashlight to confuse, illuminate, identify and eliminate. Sounds more serious than it should be, as the only factor that really matters is how much shit you're going to get yourself into... the more the better (YMMV)!
  11. Hey, welcome @Khyber! Enjoy your time in this one-of-kind airsoft asylum. We're lovin' it here. If you ever get bored of playing at the same sites over and over, feel free to poke around PlayAirsoft, to see what else is near you. See you in the field!
  12. Welcome @Hussaroperator! If you're looking for nearby places to play, you can likely find them at PlayAirsoft. There are some locations closer to you than Driver Wood, so feel free to poke around. If you've played at a location that isn't on the site, I'd love for you to file a suggestion using form found on the website. Enjoy your time in here and happy hunting!
  13. Guilty of spending more money (again): - EARMOR M32 Gen2 headset - Multicam Black shirt and trousers from EmersonGear - M12 Sidewinder speed loader - a metric ton of precision tools from Japan 🇯🇵 Still waiting for the verdict on the PDR-C, and I need to sort out my C4-10 AR after I’ve “upgraded” it’s profile from 10.5" to 14.5", which now isn’t properly aligned and shoots less than 1J. Might be more parts from KWA coming soon… 😅
  14. You can find out most about these on PlayAirsoft: Level 2: https://playairsoft.uk/sites/north-west/level-2/ The Mill: https://playairsoft.uk/sites/north-west/the-mill/ Airsoft sites in the North West: https://playairsoft.uk/sites/north-west/
  15. @Rogerborg You're missing the fact that in the woods you’re going through grass and bushes, and these will be mostly up to your knee, so the purpose of gaiters is to repel the water from these below your ankle line, away from the fabric and boots, at worst prolonging, at best preventing your lower trousers, shoes, and socks from getting damp/wet. It’s not about being able to step into a bog or a big puddle; it’s to prevent "the death by a thousand water drops."
  16. My little nipper wants to play with my pistols, and while I taught him basics of safety it takes time to ingrain this in his mind. Kids have great imagination, but little understanding of consequences of their actions. Right now, he can play with his nerf guns and we shoot the shit out of each other, but I always try to make sure he understands the rules of the game. I think it may be good to demonstrate to them the “power” these Airsoft GBBs have compared to a nerf. This may (or may not) put a little respect in them towards firearms, imitation or not. I always treat any gun, Airsoft or otherwise, as it was real, loaded and ready to go. You should see the face of my mate when I’ve cleared the weapon three times before handing it over to him. “It’s just a toy!” Famous last words…
  17. I asked Luke about some advice on maintaining the PDR, this is what he replied with: Sounds a ton more involving than I thought, but then he definitely knows his shit. That said, if the gun only needs a new piston… why a full rebuild?
  18. I have initially thought that it’s misfeeding because of the hop unit, but after testing this thoroughly that turned out to be a false assumption. After testing some more, I noticed that the air nozzle randomly stays retracted after cycling, which kind indicated a stripped piston (apparently, very common after several thousand rounds on this thing). I was going to give it to Luke, but he told me to pack it into a display case somewhere, yet apart from that little issue it’s firing perfectly at 340 fps, so I can’t just give up, right?
  19. @RostokMcSpoons Don't forget to get good gaiters. They’ll save you despite having waterproof boots. Whenever it’s supposed to be proper damp or raining, I never leave without my gaiters. You can get a good pair for less that £20 these days. Best advice you may hear a lot: keep your feet dry at all times. You may be soaked to the bone, but as long as your feet are dry you’ll be more or less fine. Pay attention to how the straps are attached and what they’re made of. My mate made a mistake and bought a pair of “reinforced” ones, and it turned out that the strap that go underneath your boot were made of steel wire, while the seams holding them in place gave way after two trips. Now, the other question is, how the heck we’re supposed to protect our shitty AEG from wet weather?
  20. So, in the wake of Luke from Negative Airsoft dissing PTS PDR-C and vowing never to touch one again, I need to perform a piston swap on my vanilla PDR-C. However the last time I touched a gearbox was a long time ago (5-6 years), and I’d love to learn a bit more about precautions of disassembling this particular one before I actually do it. What should I watch out for? What type of piston should I look for? Any specific models I should consider? Are there any parts you’d recommend I should upgrade while I’m there? Any videos I should check out before performing an open heart surgery? (apart from NA ones, I watched all of his PDR ones) Any other suggestions, warnings, I’d appreciate, because quite frankly, all I want is to bring it back to life and improve its reliability. It has never failed me before and it’s just wear and tear I presume.
  21. Hey, @leadly, fancy a mention in the “featured creators” section of the next PlayAirsoft newsletter issue? If so, gimme a shout. I’ll be happy to sort you out, since no one yet has sent me their recommendations. You’ll be first! The newsletter has quite a few subscribers now. Got an instagram? Shoot me a link too. If you guys know of any more indie channels, please let me know! PS: No sponsored clickbait bullshit content a la “n00bz gEt pOUndEd. sEe hIM rAGe!!!zzz”, plz.
  22. Am I the only idiot who actually thought his plate carrier was too light, and so went out and bought 2 × 2.5kg plates to weigh it down for the next skirmish? 😅
  23. @willi_338 You're giving me too much credit mate. I’m just a guy who decided to do something about the way people go about planning their airsoft outings, because it’s utterly broken and nobody seem to give a toss. While I do work on aspects of PlayAirsoft that would next year bring the ability to organise into squads/teams, it’s not gone beyond planning right now, and I’m relatively new to the forum myself, so as much as I’d love to point you in the right direction, I’m as clueless about team play as you are. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to improve this... 😉
  24. Thanks, @Voodoo.! I might do a bit more editing to make it flow a bit better, but I’m glad you enjoyed it. There’s more coming for sure!
  25. I wrote a little about my recent outing to Anzio Camp (with photos) and a little problem I had with my beloved PDR-C: https://playairsoft.uk/blog/the-disaster-that-turned-into-the-most-fun-one-could-have-with-a-pistol I wonder what you guys think about this type of content (“Battle Stories”), would you like to continue reading stuff like this, or is it not your cup of tea? Let me know!
