NOOOO!!!!! DONT MENTION ZE YOUTUBER!!

im going to thro my two cents out there... personally i agree that people in the UK should be allowed to own any kind of firearm they wish AS LONG AS THEY PASS THE RELEVANT CHECKS AND BALANCES my personal opinion is that being able to use a real steel firearm for target shooting is a fine sport that can help people relax and forget about the stresses of their working week... its just you, the sights and the target, the rest of the world falls away in the background. this is the reason i own an air rifle and would regularly go to a range (before this damned virus) but i just wish that i could shoot real guns over greater, more challenging distances where windage and gravity etc come into play. i also feel that being able to use real steel guns will help with the preservation of old classics, as well as educating people more about firearms. more education about firearms will then have the benefit of limiting misinformation feeding the knee-jerk "cancel all scary things" crowd. now, i can also see the call for gun restriction to make it harder for criminals to use them... but as has already been stated before, if someone really wants to break the law, then they will find a way and there is nothing that anyone can do to stop them, so why criminalise average, law abiding citizens just because one or two nutters MIGHT use a gun to commit a crime. i also dont think that we should let just anyone walk in to a gun shop and buy a machine gun immediately, however i do believe that those who have a number of years with clean records should be allowed to be able to earn the right to own such guns. im NOT suggesting we become as liberal as america and allow just anyone to buy a gun on a whim, but rather we keep the system of checks and balances that are already in place, just allowing law abiding gun owners the ability to own a greater range of firearms. and also keep in place the law that ALL gun sales must be brokered through an approved gun shop who will handle background checks and the transfer pa for example, a collector of ww2 guns can currently own bolt action rifles like the lee enfield, but cannot own an m1 garand... i also think that restrictions that are currently in place should also be extended. for example, current laws state that with the appropriate category of firearms licence and passing the right background checks and balances, we can own pistols (proper pistol, not a carbine-ised version with the coathanger stock and welded on smoothbore barrel) BUT the pistol has to be stored in the gun safe of an approved pistol range or section 5 firearms licence holder, so you ONLY have access to it on the range... now if someone wants to own, lets say a browning M2, then they should be allowed to do so, BUT it, or the critical parts that make it work, MUST be kept under supervision of a section 5 approved person or facility to limit access to it, and thus the chance for it to be used for criminal acts. all the above examples are simplified versions, due to the extreme complexity of firearms laws here in the UK, but with that level of gun control in place, i argue that a greater range of firearms should be made available to law abiding citizens, again, AS LONG AS THE APPROPRIATE CHECKS AND BALANCES ARE PASSED agreed. times are hard enough for retailers in general, not just airsoft ones... if everyone suddenly stops spending full stop, then it wont be just our favourite sport and suppliers at risk of going broke and disappearing. and just like @Adolf Hamster my spending hasnt stopped, but it has been significantly cut back

shit.. that reminds me.. mine expires next month... i think if you are on the database, they will still honour an expired UKARA given current circumstances making it impossible to get to sites.... but i dont know about people without UKARA...

Spartan09s Planned Charlton GBB Project
Spartan09 replied to Spartan09's topic in General Discussion
should be a fair compromise. also, i decided to email Ian at forgotton weapons to see if he has, or knows anyone else that has more detailed measurements of the real steel that could help me start making some basic drawings and allow me to be able to compare those measurements to GBB AKs and M14s to work out wether its feasible to modify a base gun, or better to just try and make a gun from sratch -
Spartan09s Planned Charlton GBB Project
Spartan09 replied to Spartan09's topic in General Discussion
thinking on the project a bit more, im wondering wether it would be better to try and run it as an HPA gun, with a line in through the stock or grip, and trying to run hi-cap AEG mags. surely i can have the gas routed through the bolt as with an AK, and then just make the gas tube as a mock piece, but build the recoil and return springs inside it -
Spartan09s Planned Charlton GBB Project
Spartan09 replied to Spartan09's topic in General Discussion
*doffs cap to you* why thank you good sir you may be waiting for quite some time, as it will take a lot of time and money to make this project work... and i am short of both at the moment =P -
does this count? i just made a new thread for the charlton discussion to continue in, without clogging up this channel any more =P edit: apologies everyone, that was my poor attempt at humor late at night while half asleep
-
starting a new thread, after clogging the "what have you built" thread with some chatter between myself and @Adolf Hamster. as the title suggests, this thread is about my plans to make a GBB Charlton LMG. any advice on modding/ remaking GBB guns would be much appreciated. updates to this thread will likely be in the distant future, as due to lockdown boredom spending, i dont have a lot of funds spare at the moment to dedicate to the project so far i have identified some real-steel lee-enfield stocks, trigger guards and sights that i could buy to add to the gun.

inviting indeed. though looking at more pics of the real steel gun, it looks like there is a simple lug on the bolt that runs in a groove of the charging handle mechanism, so it may be a bit easier to make a rotating bolt.. but again, until i have a base gun to work with, its rather immaterial... talking of materials, what materials are GBB bolts usually made of? was wondering if it would be possible to contact an engineer or gunsmith to have a lug welded on, or if its fairly simple to get a custom bolt made with a lug already built in.. EDIT perhaps it would be better to set up a seperate chat to discuss the charlton, to save clogging up the "what have you built" thread
-
ah.... im with you now. TBH im not too fussed if the bolt doesnt rotate, im more focussed on the bolt blowing back and returning.. and not blowing back into my face XD once i get into the project fully, and i have a base gun, i can try and work out wether i can make the rotating bolt, or just have to stick to a straight gbb
-
what do you mean by that adolf? not going to lie, but i dont have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to the finer points of GBB mechanisms lol, at first glance when scrolling past, i thought they were medicine boxes....

ask and you shall recieve @AlphaBear i got an armourer works mag of my own, and took a video of me mag dumping it into a target... filmed using an ICU camera mounted on the top rail of the AAP, then i had to use an online video compression program to get it below the 89mb file limit for the website, hence the watermark i can confirm that a single gas fill is insufficient to empty the whole mag... may need three fills to do a whole mag... luckily i can carry cans of gas in my pouches on site, so refills arent an issue for me in the field/back at respawn icu0018_e0D0XNgj.avi

if you are referring to the rotating bolt on the real steel gun, then i was probablt going to make it as a solid piece that only LOOKS as though it functions as a rotating bolt. i was hoping to get away with running it as an open bolt, similar to the northeast sten. to run GBB AK mags... or try and either route a gas feed from a CO2 canister in the stock (like a tippmann omega) or an HPA line through the grip and use AEG hi caps. but until i get my hands on a base gun, i wont know what modification options i will have at my disposal and im sure it would be a bit of a nasty bastard to run, but it would definately be something unique and different on the fields =P
-
it is ugly, and its definately not my finest work... but its functional enough.... but as said above, it is still a work in progress i intend to spend a LOT of time and care in designing and building the charlton though... but before i can begin esigning it, i need to figure out what gun im going to use as a base, and then take some detailed measurements of the internals to scale the externals appropriately.

I did knock together a bb trap target for my back garden, so i can do some shooting during lockdown to relieve a bit of boredom... I know it doesnt look like much, it was quickly knocked together from some cheap timber so that if required i can quickly pull it apart and store it in pieces between my shed and fence without faffing around with complex fastenings etc... plus the simple construction allows me to make quick repairs if needed.... A bit of wire across the opening allows me to hang paper targets, or i can put knock-down targets inside the trap I am adding more padding inside the target though, as i did get a couple of ricochets during test shots, so until i have the appropriate materials to hand i wont be using it again. Its a Charlton rifle, made by the australian and new zealand armies in early ww2 due to issues getting brens from britain, and a huge surplus of lee enfield rifles from ww1...

At some point i would also like to see about making my own airsoft gun, but i need more money behind me first, as it would require a lot of work. The gun i want to make would probably have to be a GBB as the (rare) real steel is mostly exposed workings due to it being a conversion from a bolt action rifle into a LMG... (so no place to hide a gearbox and motor) Is there any requirement to get a home made GBB proofed (or a similar test) before it can be used on fields?

More tales of woe due to the fuck up that is the new trade "deal"... Not airsoft, but still tales of woe... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55734277 Its bloody ridiculous that you cant get any idea of what charges may be until after you have ordered, and the goods have arrived in the UK. Who is it a deal for? Because its certainly not us...

Airsoft Apathy (First World Problem Content)
Spartan09 replied to Speedbird_666's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
congrats on promotion and pay rise, and great that you have an understanding wife. hopefully you will get the chance to visit an airsoft shop when they reopen and can find something you like, be that a gun, some gear or as @GeorgePlaysAirsoft suggested... pyro. i did see mention of funding a trip out to a different site to normal, and this is also a good option to consider 😃 starting with this months pay pack, i will be siphoning off a small amount of money each month to try and fund some visits to distant sites and pyro costs... (found TAG hand grenades, and fell in love with the loud, yellow bastards) lol, speak for yourself Adolf... i got excited enough to splash out a massive chunk of change (that i didn't really have to spend... oops) on a Tippmann m4v2 and some bits to bolt onto it whilst being locked down.... =P but i am definitely looking forward to getting out to play again. -
Noob Questions. Considering First HPA Gun
Spartan09 replied to Spartan09's topic in High Pressure Air
Yeah.... i think i will just wait until the local air rifle range opens again and get my dive cylinder and hpa bottle filled... im too lazy for that pump, lol The build quality on the v2 feels very solid. Obviously i havent had a chance to use it in anger yet, but from what i understand, just like any other GBB gun, as long as they are properly maintained, the tippmanns will last a very long time with minimal troubles. from what i have read, you can fettle the mag well and mags so they arent so tight to remove if using in hpa mode, then you can have as close to realistic mag changes as possible, but i dont know if that would work with the plastic tippmann CO2 mags(again, i havent tried this myself yet, so dont quote me on it) the only thing that wouldnt be realistic is the bolt release button... its just for show, and doesnt act on the bolt itself
