  1. I concur with all the above comments. I have a largish scope on my Mk12 as I like the look, but it rarely goes beyond its lowest 3x setting. On the very few occasions it does go higher than 3x its on large open sites when I'm using it for spotting rather than for actually taking a shot.

Glass quality will actually be much more important for you to ensure the scope is usable in all conditions (dark tints can make the picture too dark if it is overcast or if you want to use the sight at night dusk, and some cheap clear coatings can cause awful haloing or glare in bright sunlight). Reproduction optics can be a bit hit and miss in this regard so id suggest either being a RS sight from someone like Vortex or buying from Amazon (yeah I know) where a return will be easy if your airsoft repro turns out to be crap.

I assume the uppers are pretty much interchangable but I wanna be sure before I buy a rail that won't fit.

Yes the MRT and MWS uppers are interchangeable. So much so that I have a build with an MTR lower and MWS upper. Any accessory that will fit one will fit the other (assuming you have the correct rail fitted, i.e m-loc accessories obviously won’t fit if you have a keymod rail. Etc).

  3. At higher joule limits heavier bb’s make more sense. A 2.5 joule DMR rifle will get much more benefit from firing .45g bbs at 345 FPS than a 1.3 joule full auto rifle will get from firing .45g bbs at 249 FPS.

The original poster said he was working to joule limits and seemed unhappy that his longer barrel had joule crept up to 1.4 joules. Given heavier ammo also joule creeps (and the MWS joule creeps like crazy) he will likely get better range shooting something in the .32g - .36g range if trying to stay under 1.3j to be U.K. legal. If he is prepared to semi lock his gun and get up into 2j + territory then heavier bbs make absolute sense, but then the longer barrel wouldn’t be an issue.

  4. The only reason to increase the barrel length on the MWS is to increase the energy transferred to the BB thus upping the FPS.

If you don’t want to do this then a longer inner barrel doesn’t offer any benefit.

Just as a thought in the U.K. most DMRs will be semi locked so they can make use of the higher energy limits allowed by most sites for semi locked guns. If this isn’t your bag then you are really just tuning your regular gun.

Just a note on BB weight, if you are not trying to joule creep and are measuring muzzle energy properly .4g + bbs will be on the heavy side to get the best out of the MWS .32 - .36g will give the best performance in my experience (there is mountains of info on this in the MWS thread.

  5. For what you want just get the cheapest one you like the look of they will all be fine.

If you are ever actually planning on shooting it in a meaningful way then this is the one case where I really would suggest there are no solid alternatives to the later Marui's such as the M41A1 or the MEU. Its not that the other makes are bad designs (in fact the later WE's with the 14mm blowback unit are quite nice), but the single single stack mags don't hold much gas compared to a double stack mag so if you want it to reliably lock back at the end of every mag even on colder days then the Marui's lighter slide makes all the difference.

Obviously if you want to go full milsim and only load a realistic 7-9 rounds in the magazine then most of them will manage fine. Personally i'd avoid Co2 unless you are going to shoot it regularly and maintain it. For some reason that escapes me Co2 mags have a habit of starting to leak if they are not used for long periods. Green gas mags do require some tlc but generally its ab occasional squirt of silicone oil and keeping a tiny squirt of maintenance gas in the Mag.

  6. The high level claw mount that TM did was a copy of a RS item. The real ones are now pretty affordable as they have fallen out use in favour of the lower profile screw down mounts due to their weight and the fact that the newer style mounts give you a much lower height over bore, so a noticeably smaller shift in zero at close ranges. I often see them going for not much money at airsoft sales or on various selling sites. However unless you are going for an authentic retro build I wouldn't bother.

I have a pair of WE apaches that I run eotech's on and I just used the following from Amazon, they work well are as cheep as chips and you can get it delivered free next day if you have Amazon Prime.

  7. I'll never forget the first time I did a 'window breach' on exercise. I was the first man in. We ran across the open ground in front of the building threw up the scaling ladder and I was up it like a whippet down a rabbit hole (I was a lot younger then, now its more like a St. Bernard trying to squeeze through a cat flap!!!). Me and the guy a couple of rungs behind me in the ladder tossed a couple of training grenades into a pitch black room and after a pair of bangs I jumped into the room rifle at the ready trying to look as tacticool as fook.

Unfortunately those sneaky Gurkas who were playing the enemy has decided not to defend that room and instead had just filled it waste deep in barbed wire, which I had just jumped right into the middle off. So instead of looking cool I ended up looking like a fish in a net. Unfortunately the net was made of very old and rusty barbed wire. I remember it must have taken me an hour with a set of wire cutters to get free and it cut my combat trousers to ribbons, and put a couple of nasty tears in my smock (I couldn't have cared less about the issue trousers, but I was wearing a pretty expensive Arktis smock that I had bought myself so I was well pissed about that).

I spent the rest of the day in the medics waggon with a blanket wrapped around my waste drinking overly sweet tea. Once they had cleaned me up there were no major lacerations just a fist-full of superficial cuts and grazes, but when I finally cut myself free It looked like I was wearing red tights under my trousers where the blood had been running down my legs. The medic must have asked me at least 20 times if my tetanus shot was up-to-date, which will tell you something about the condition of the barbed wire.

  8. At £300 i'll order one the day they are available in the uk. Any more than that and i'll wait for the used ones to turn up, which is bound to happen once a few of them get played with and the disappointed purchasers realise a £400 pistol doesn't immediately turn you into John Wick.

  9. I got to play with a friends one last night for a couple of hours (plinking and doing some drills in his garden range) and I thought it was pretty nice for an AEG, but nothing that was going to convince me to trade in my GBBR WE Apachies. Notably split times between shots were consistently a tiny bit better for both of us using the GBBR (we suspect this is down to the fractionally better trigger response of the GBBR).

I suspect the lack of magazine availability is going to mean they remain a rare sight at skirmishes for a while yet.

  10. If I can see properly and that is $400 USD then by the time it reaches the U.K. it is going to be at least £300 (possibly more). That is a pretty strong price for a GBB pistol.

I hope I’m wrong and they come in cheaper. I’d be prepared to pay £300 but any more and I’ll be passing.

  11. I love gas. The sense of immersion is so much better than with AEG as they just feel like sewing machines to me now. Even the ones with recoil aren’t as satisfying as a good GBBR.

That said for a regular skirmish (and depending on how you play) you may find yourself at a disadvantage compared to the AEG wielding masses in terms of putting down weight of fire.

To my mind the best two GBBRs available right now are the Marui MWS if the M4 platform is your thing or the WE Apache if you are an Mp5 kind of guy. But then I may be biased as I own more than one of both types.

I make handguards for the SD series

Tell me more.... I also have an SD that I would be interested in upgrading if its not too expensive and won't mean modifying the actual gun. How are they produced and what is the fitment like. what I really want to do is add a few m loc attachment points for a torch laser and gubbinz.

  13. Hello and welcome to the forum.

Where about in Essex are you based and where do you skirmish? I'm based in Brentwood and Usually attend AP or Tower Airsoft (currently really enjoying tower's Tuesday evening events as they are long enough to have a good time, but don't eat up the weekend leaving it free for Kids).

I can't really advise on snipers, but at AP consider going DMR. Only 50 fps less and the benefit of semi auto.

There was a recent threat on pistols that is well worth a read:

  14. As per the description, anyone aware of a front rail for a WE Apache Mp5 GBBR that will fit without any modification, or if I must minor mods to the rail, but none to the gun.

I am aware of a number of rails that are compatible with the Marui AEG Mp5, but I have no idea if these will work with the WE.

It would also be helpful if any rails recommend are actually available to buy somewhere..

    Thanks

    D

  15. I normally carry anywhere between 5 (3 in the plate, 1 on a belt and 1 in the gun) all the way up to 17 (8 on PC, 2 on belt, one in gun and 6 in an assault pack) depending on what I am doing.

I do lean towards the lower end of the scale most of the time with 7 being the norm.

I don't think I will ever carry all of the magazines I own.
