  1. Awaits "So, I bought an Ares because you get what you pay for."
  2. Seal-Skinz work, but so do army surplus waterproof socks / liners from eBay. And they come with a name and number pre-written inside, and the faint aroma of yeast and regret.
  3. The fact is that Ares guns just can't handle the raw throbbing power of Ares owners.
  4. Agreed, although I can't suppress the low moaning sounds when I get a sniper headshot.
  5. I'll just echo that I've had no feeding issues with a random mix of ASG, CYMA or Nuprol shells in either an ASG or CYMA spring tri-shots. It seems to be one of the very few things in airsoft that's 'standard' enough to not have issues.
  6. Sadly, it is indeed "worth a try" though. There was a 15 year old lad begging on one of the UK Failbook groups who successfully grifted a bunch of gear from "you can't tell me this is a bad idea!" contrarians. As a thank you, he started posting pictures of himself up on his roof, doing his best Rooftop Korean impression. The "told you so" was epic.
  7. Wait, hang on. Are you getting 350fps with 0.25g BBs? If so, that would be 1.42J, which would make that (technically) a Section 5 firearm, and way above any UK site limit for an auto-capable gun. Specnas EDGE guns come with two springs, an M90 (which I assume is the lost one) and an M120 (which is consistent with ~1.4J) If you've been playing with the M120, without your gun locked to semi and using DMR rules and a MED, I'd like to know what site(s) you've been playing at. And I'd love it if one of the UKAPA reps who frequent here could have a word with them about the wisdom of saying "350fps limit" and assuming that even well intentioned players have any idea what that actually means. Anyway, tl;dr version, get an M100 spring and a chrono, or an M95 if you want to be more confident that you'll come in under the Joule limit for UK sites.
  8. Well, as an addendum to the above, I'm certain there will be a couple of teams of stripy socked speedsofters, buzzing on Monster and testosterone from their one descended testicle, and pre-firing every corner with a solid stream of glowing jizz-balls from their ghostbusted hi-capa with a 2 gram trigger. Which is absolutely fine as long as it's consensual and everybody has the same expectations. But without a crystal clear set of rules, guidelines and tone-setting, I can see tears before endex.
  9. Aside, I agree with all of the above, and fully expect that this is going to be yet another muddle-through-and-make-do event where half the site regulars will turn up anyway without even knowing it's been booked out, get allocated to ad hoc "teams", then play exactly as normal. It's absolutely typical of a dis-organiser who thinks they can put in the work only after enough people beg to attend that they think it'll be worth it, rather than doing the same amount of work up front and actually giving their event a chance. But I went with a ha-ha post because I also doubt that OP will ever be back to engage here. It's a drive-by leafleting. I'll be delighted to be wrong about any or all of that.
  10. Oh, sure, I had a Well MB-03 which I upgraded to be half decent, including some DIY shimming and a TDC hop. But the bolt pull went janky, and the uPgRaDeD steel sear chewed up the aluminium piston, and the stopper wallered out the trigger box, and... You can go down the uPgRaDe path, it's still viable. It's just that I feel that you're always chasing the next bit of performance that you imagine might be there, when there are now some viable options that only need a spring swap to get them tuned for your field (and it's a very easy swap indeed on a TAC-41).
  11. Wait, what? I've been doing it wrong for years, I've been co-operating with the other team!
  12. Sorry to hear that. How's the chargeback going?
  13. How much extra feats-percent will I get, mister?
  14. Uh... what are you saving them for?
  15. The SSG10 is VSR-10 based, but with a unique trigger box. It's a case of "why don't all triggers work like this?" Silverback have gone their own way. I went for the TAC-41 because it has a TDC dial hop, larger magazines, quick-change spring, and I slightly prefer the ergonomics. However, the SSG10 really does make a good argument for itself if you prefer VSRs.
  16. I'd say quite the opposite. Having gone down the "upgrade" route on a VSR-ish base, I'd say that you'll end up paying more for a usable, reliable gun than if you just buy (e.g.) a Novritsch SSG10, or Silverback TAC-41. Sure, you can play with the VSR at various stages of "upgrade", but you'll always be wearing out sears and stoppers, hitting the limit of your hop, and chasing a smoother bolt pull. It's fun to do, but ultimately neither cheaper nor faster than just buying something that's genuinely usable out of the box.
  17. A creak on the stairs at 3am is what turns a pacificist into a sudden and passionate advocate for the most unreasonable amount of force possible.
  18. Oh, we're pretty experienced with these threads here, and know that there's always another side to the story.
