  1. Saw someone get a tooth shot in half on my first ever skirmish, pointed me away from comfort/vanity/laziness to full face safety lol. Still manage to get shot on the head every-time tho, always a mm gap somewhere that seems to have some kind of BB magnetism as far as my luck is concerned!
  2. Do you have another RDS to compare the zeroing to at all? I only ask as with most RDS the zeroing is very slight compared to conventional sights, and when i first got one I mistakenly considered it not functional as it seemed to make no difference, i had to turn it pretty much from one extreme to the other to notice a difference. What make/model of RDS have you got? Prob required info for people to offer advice if it is a mechanical issue
  3. I hear this % is doubled if you get a TM recoil version!
  4. 30 years man and boy? hardest game in the world the ole army surplus game
  5. Ahh see what you mean, the curve shapes wrong too! on the genuine one start from a flat edge and go to a point, on his its a point on both ends of each curve. even the batteries have the same logo. I've found some references to surefire changing their logo slightly in 2011 though, and looking through pictures lots of ones from pre 2011 with the same logo. these could also be fakes, at the ridiculous price these things cost clones can't be too uncommon. definately dubious enough to not bother with, good spot sir!
  6. Might not be a fake one, the code on the side of it suggests it's a very early surefire x300, available in 2003. Hence why it doesn't look like the current line-up
  7. If it was a TM it'd have Tokyo Marui on it somewhere. think for M4 sopmod its the side of the receiver, above the trigger on the dust-cover side, not sure if it's the same for recoil and non-recoil versions
  8. i'll bite, it's fun to shoot someone with a significantly cheaper or less cool gun because it's a combination of under-dog satisfaction and if it actually pisses them off more than being hit by a 1k gun theres the sadistic pleasure of kicking over someones ego sand-castle a bit. it's like a safe way to be a douche-bag, if they get pissed of by it because they're a douche-bag who cares about the difference then you can feel free to be a douche-bag and revel in their fury. quite similar to asking 'why' when you have a suspicion someones being a douchebag really hehe /end troll
  9. Snobbery is all about thinking your way is best and the rest is just ignorant/unskilled. There's lots of it in air-soft, perhaps the need to appear professional/bad-ass is common due to essentially playing cowboys and indians as an adult fuels it. "Why don't you just use this pro tactic?" especially when accompanied by claims of being awesome in some manner, is one that can makes you want to violently disprove someones ego. But as mr trigger happy says this too is paradoxically (i wont use the word irony incorrectly for once) an act of snobbery because you want to correct them because you similarly think you are right. These days I try to find such things hilarious rather than irritating, poke fun rather than rant. Possibly more arrogant, but definitely more enjoyable for all. Samurai got it perfectly, one best things i've read on these forums tbh, shame there isn't a 'super-like' button or something. There's many styles/ways to play and until they make a compulsory UK airsoft league then the only way to quantify success is by the amount of enjoyment. As for 'shoot when you know you can hit' and 'why use high rof', that doesn't help the rooms full of guys in full camo gear when i burst through the doorway they came in through and thanks to 25rps shoot them all before they've started returning fire (a best-case scenario usually ending somewhere in between and me getting shot by 5 people at once after taking out 2-3 of them, assuming i've even made it into the room). But it probably helps them a lot when playing woodland and they've just spotted opp players moving in the distance. Time and a place for everything, as we all seem to agree there's no universal standard or situation
  10. I have the exact pair linked, they're def flexible enough to not be a hindrance. I have taken a couple hits where I've been unlucky enough for it not hit the shield strips, as the shield strips don't always sit square when you've got your hand clenched round a grip. Definitely as good as you can get without wearing a gloves that's solid all the way around rather than strips
  11. Those are both some bonkers sniper rifles, in price and function. Will sites even let you use 8mm (assuming the gun can still fire 6mm to pass the chrono)? How does 8mm equate to 6mm, surely the size affects effective FPS in a similar manner to weight? Never seen one so can't have sold too well, perhaps had more success in the USA, certainly looks more suitable for shooting cans in half in your back yard, while sat on a sofa (also in back yard)
  12. So do they insist on people providing a UKARA number when booking a skirmish? Seems more likely to be a hastily written badly worded bit of bollocks rather than anything they'd enforce.
  13. See your point and agree, that comparison can be made with lots of airsoft stuff people seem to think is worth it. Best one I can think of; Is a Systema PTW (the best airsoft gun according to many (although many such types are now defecting to HPA)) any better than a TM full of Laylax bits (at half the price)? Enough people will buy one for Inokatsu to win, haven't really seen a stupidly expensive airsoft product that failed to sell lol, anyone got any comedy examples of one that did fail?
  14. Glad you got on well, guns like yours will certainly be comparatively worse for range & accuracy/spread, but IMO being forced to run in a bit closer rather than cowering behind a tree the second you spot the opp, isn't a bad thing for any newcomer, as being more proactively mobile will allow you to kick ass regardless of what gun you have. The difference isn't that huge at the end of the day, it's only firing a plastic ball. We all like to think it is necessary to spend 10 times the amount you did (myself included), but it's definitely more of a common standard of luxury rather than a necessary standard to play the game. I kinda think most of the 'that guns not suitable for airsoft' replies to you (and the countless others who pose the question about their 50% orange BB gun) are said because we all want to put off dumb kids who think it's like CoD in person, as they're usually the ones who buy them and they're worst demographic for trying to cheat and other reckless behavior. If they only spent £50 on a gun then it isn't too big a deal for them if they get banned for being a dick head from their local site (probably ruining the day for the rest there in the process), buying a £150+ gun at least means you'll care about whether you can keep using it or not. Good luck upgrading the AK12, would be trickier than doing so to a 'normal' standard of AEG judging from what mr duck says, which is tricky for any AEG first time and easy to fudge. I personally would get a 'normal' standard of gun like a ICS/G&G and then go back to pimping the AK12 once my familiarity of AEG internals had grown. Would be a shame if you end up having spent £100 on internals for a £30 gun, but can't get it to work properly. It will however be awesome when you have an AK12 with a good standard of internals, it's just a question of whether that time should be now, or later.
  15. I use MAG 130rd VN style midcaps, and a TM M4 high-cycle. I've only once managed to use the 4 I carry during a single game; yesterday when I was having a little BB spam competition against a guy with a bren gun, he couldn't duck very quickly with that so i won lol. Usually I'll use about half of one in a big fire-fight, then put another in to stop myself running out mid fire-fight, probably only 200-300 bb's used per game max. Unless you're mr-suppressing-fire or often trying to shoot people too far away (or whatever reason means you miss all the time) then mid-caps certainly aren't a guaranteed hindrance to high ROF full-auto. Perhaps they might be if you bought 50-80 round ones, but the 100-130 ones have definitely kept me going without having to scramble for another mag mid battle. If it is a hindrance then you might as well get a 3k bb electric drum mag or similar and not have to change at all (kudos for trying if you have to swap a drum-mag lol). I'd never bother with hi-caps as all that winding is a pain in the ass and sh*t when it's required during a fire-fight.
  16. VFC is the one that's overpriced, paying loads extra just for real-steel logo's on the gun. As for people commonly recommending KWA, the only recommendations about them i've ever heard was don't buy. Sounds like you've gotten all your advice from your local small-time retailer, or people who took said advice.
  17. Just don't change the sentiment from 'a' toy gun to gun(s) and I'm all good I will however spank that much soon as the guys at Laylax spend their time finishing their GITS gun, rather than visiting the used-panties vending machine and going to kareoke bars, i assume
  18. I'd say it's worth it and the 100-120 people playing there each time seem to agree lol. They charge more because it costs them thousands to rent the site each time. i doubt they make more profit out of it than people running woodland games with half the numbers, esp as there's usually 10 marshalls there each time and woodland will usually have half that at most. The site is a full shopping mall, all the shops, corridors, basement areas. It's really well run by friendly non-scamming types, they get lots of random business rather than mostly being regulars, so impartiality and fairness is well developed there. Let us know when your going, I'd certainly be happy to show you around if i'm there that weekend as it is such a big site it's very easy to get lost/spun around in. CQB definitely gives you more freedom of what airsoft gun to use, as it only needs to be able to shoot a few meters with any accuracy. Being easy to carry/weld is probably most important factor, many people only use pistols or SMG sized guns, having a big M16 with a grenade launcher will be more a hinderance. In woodland it's more people shooting each other at range and then having an expensive well tuned bit of kit will make all the difference. As for Absolute Airsoft being dubious, I also stopped going there but this was due to me not enjoying woodland games rather than any perceived wrong-doings, not sure what event/behavior it was that prompted a mass exodus from the site, but since then see more of the same faces going to The Mall instead. Certainly wouldn't hurt to go to try out woodland airsoft, just might not be great place to be a regular at.
  19. Think you've found the best local ones to be starting with already! I live near Reading, Absolute Airsoft was my first site, they run two, one in Reading one on the edge of Maidenhead. The Reading one is primarily a paintball site, is good because it has lots of fortifications etc, but everything is covered in a grey sludge mix of dif paintball paints perished over the years that doesn't seem to wash off like it should so don't wear anything you don't mind ruining. Zed Adventures is The Mall site (might see me and other addicts mentioning it far too often on these forums), which is a disused shopping mall (Friars Walk). My personal favorite. Absolute Airsoft is woodland and a typical experience compared to majority of airsoft sites. Zed Adventures is a CQB site (Close Quarter Battle). They're two different shades of airsoft, so it'd def be a good idea to try both and see which you prefer. Woodland sites give you much more room and time for teamwork/tactics etc, easier to play soldier in. CQB is much more fast paced and chaotic. I'd say in woodland sites are like playing paintball (often the same place and similar game scenarios) and CQB is more like playing Laser quest or similar (but with cool guns) If you love it just don't rush out and buy a gun right-away, everyone does and it ends up sat unused in a box due to being too crap, the wrong type or painted 50% a bright color. Discuss potential purchases on here and the vets/trolls will guide you to a good choice/retailer. Also - When you decide which site/day your going wouldn't hurt to ask on here if anyone's going too, and you'll probably find someone who'll be happy to guide you through the day. Definitely a good idea when going to The Mall as it's a bit of a maze at first.
  20. As with any outburst on the internet most people seem to be entertained rather than offended so don't worry about it. Kudos for coming back, takes balls!
  21. One the Zed Adventures dudes makes bespoke airsoft pistols as close to real-steel as possible, he said they usually cost the buyer about 800 squid so not too surprising but you'd kinda think mass production would make it half that.
  22. Haven't heard anything more from them, no confirmation of the form being received or it clearing customs etc. I'll probably just get the package turn up at my door and then an email asking me to pay the fee. When that occurs I'll certainly see if I can squeeze more info from them, best-case scenario is I find out a toy-part commands no duty and I successfully argue classifying it otherwise is their mistake and therefore not a fee i should pay. EDIT - figured i should probably check the tracking info (doh) and it's being delivered to me today apparently, will see if i get a charge as I answered 'no' on pretty much everything on that form, to the degree where i wasn't saying it was airsoft or RIF in any manner
  23. Phone chopped off last sentence sorry. My hope was to only pay a small duty at worst, and at best it being classified as a toy-part would mean it wasn't subject to any duty at all, although i didn't check this
  24. Dunno about the gas TM MP7, the electric does have few upgrade options available but it is a bit tricky. Laylax (Nineball) have made aftermarket/upgrade bits for a majority of the gearbox and a couple tightbore barrels, but these aren't easily found from UK retailers, didn't find one that had them all anyways, Eagle6 has most of them. The exception is the gears and motor, no-one seems to have made replacement gears with a dif ratio for increased ROF, and no-one seems to have made a replacement motor at all, can't even find an original one so if that breaks then your fuked. Converting to lipo is a popular one as the standard MP7 battery doesn't last too long, can either rewire to a PEQ, or chop the connector off a standard MP7 battery and attach it to a lipo small enough. I didn't have a stock battery so bought a Laylax MP7 lipo adapter as that'd done half the job for me and same price as a stock battery anyways. Also it's a tricky little bitch of a gearbox to tinker in, took me several attempts to get it perfect, end result is about 310FPS and about 17-19RPS compared to stock of 250FPS and about 15RPS
