I am so sorry for the loss of someone who was obviously loved by you all. The way that Ollie dealt with his illness was inspirational.3 points -
Helmet advise
Cannonfodder and one other reacted to Amokura for a topic
As for helmets. A FMA one from AliExpress is far cheaper as 95% of Amazon/Ebay airsoft products are simply dropshipped. I alternate between whatever impressionist helmet or patrol cap depending on how I feel enduring at an airsoft venue. I tend to use helmets far more often in CQB sites, where I've so happened to bump into walls and door frames lol. Outside of just looks, if looking for a helmet, consider the shell, liner, and suspension system to be optimised for your own use.2 points -

I understand too why Mike is unable to announce the very sad news right now and Dan has relieved my caution. Damn, Ollie was open about the grim diagnosis and didn't expectations but it doesn't make hearing this easier. Having a decent chin wag with him at the Midlands Airsoft Fair and discovering we have somewhat similar professional backgrounds while nerding out about barrel and bucking combinations formed a bond quite quickly. I can only imagine how devastating this is for his closest friends and family. Ollie's not only raised awareness of bowel cancer but done the most extraordinary job helping unite airsoft communities and create new airsoft fans. Fighting it as bravely as he did is something I hope I can do if I had to battle a terminal illness. Rest easy, Ollie.2 points -
Welcome ✋ That helmet link is far too expensive. Just search "fast helmet" and choose the cheapest option you like. As Emergenychimp said, a helmet isn't really necessary but can save your nogin from freak accidents like scratches from low branches or falling against a structure. Its much more important to get good eye protection and boots with ankle support.2 points

Welcome ✋ Have a look HERE for sites near you. The usual advice is to rent for your first 3 games so you can then be registered with a UKARA number. (So you can buy realistic black toys Ooh-Er) it will give you a taste for the sport before spending too much money on toys and other things. You'll be able to meet others and ask questions. You'll be able to see shooty toys that other use to get a better idea what you'll want. ...and of course do LOADS of reading here on the forum as most questions have been answered so its just a case of searching ?1 point

Rebel brand / BZ Tactical BBs jamming?
Rogerborg reacted to Chev Chelios for a topic
What a c**t, feel your pain mate. I used to use Geoffs exclusively but have been using rebels in my DAS (is a very finicky beast) for the last at a guess 15 games and has not missed a beat. I am running 0.32 though. If it was me I would drop BZ tactical an Email moaning see what they say, as they are fanatical about there BBs1 point -
Just my experience: I've been using Rebel branded BBs from BZ for well over a year with no issues - both tracers and regular, usually 0.25g and 0.28g respectively. Never had any issues with them to the point where i'd happily recommend them to people - is there any chance you've hit a bad batch if the BBs are to blame?1 point

Helmet advise
Cannonfodder reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
I guess the question is: why? Any piece of plastic will offer about as much effective protection, so the only reason to spend more than the bare minimum is to get a very specific look. That's a generic FAST helmet and cover, and while OneTigris is a decent brand, I'd rather spend the difference elsewhere (e.g. on the anti-fog blower that you might need if you're running a lid).1 point -
Helmets will make you hot and uncomfortable. I use one, but only for CBQ games indoors; even then the positives barely outweigh the negatives. If you really want something to protect your noggin, you can get a bump cap insert for a baseball cap, like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ergodyne-Univesal-Universal-Lightweight-8945/dp/B079KDWN62?th=1&psc=11 point

Well Anime fans obviously a large enough market for TM to bother. Once again Tokyo Marui has no interest in any markets out side of Japan.1 point

Rebel brand / BZ Tactical BBs jamming?
Chev Chelios reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Anecdote, not evidence, but I switched to a bottle of "Rebel" brand 0.28g BBs (BZ Tactical) last game day, and subsequently experienced... this... To snap one piston, Mister Borg, may be regarded as misfortune. To snap two looks like shenanigans. On disassembly, one barrel definitely had a BB stuck in the hop and both of them had 2 BBs roll out. Of course this could just be an AOE problem, and those are well used cheap JG / CSI plastic pistons being smashed by Big Dragon M140s on 11.1V, and it might very well be entirely unrelated to the BBs, but I'll be binning the Rebels and switching to something else out of an abundance of caution. Aside, this is why I prefer plastic pistons, because they're the cheapest part to replace, and everything else is intact in both boxes. Sadly, it looks like all aftermarket pistons are steel racked now, so I'll be reluctantly "upgrading".0 points -
I'm new to the forum as I've only recently signed up to buy stuff from the classifieds (at Ollie's recommendation). I know how much of an impact Ollie had on the community so thought you all deserve an update, but I'm afraid that I've only got crap news. Ollie went into hospital at the end of last week for a procedure. Myself and few other friends from our school days went to visit from Norfolk anyway. Ollie's blood pressure was very low Saturday and he had very limited bursts of consciousness. They managed to stabilise him and they were hoping to get him back home for Sunday. Unfortunately he continued to decline and when we rocked up at 11:40ish we where invited into his room by his family. Over the next hour or so we swapped stories about our shenanigans with Ollie over the years, and at some point Ollie seamlessly transitioned from this plane of existence with a smile on his face surrounded by people that loved him. Ollie was very brave at the end.0 points
