Drum mag on the Apache. Whilst I'm not a huge fan of drum mags , it'll be handy in games to have 300 rounds , especially in cqb.

Genuine Aimpoint 3000 with a custom machined lens protector

Repro 660 Flashlight

Cheap Torch mount (require boring to fit the suppressor)

Guillotine Airsoft Hop Arm + NPAS (need to sort NPAS)

 

Already modified my magazines and sorted the wobble in the stock - receiver

 

Just need to get out and play with it.

The Modern Sportsman has some great MP5 accessories that might help refine the setup even further. If you're thinking about a new handguard or stock, they've got solid options that won't mess with the classic look too much. I swapped out a few parts from there, and everything fit well without any hassle. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking to upgrade while keeping it functional and clean.

I got a couple of messages from folks selling theirs, so there must be some around. There's also been an add in the classifieds selling 3D printed ones.

FYI... the one I got was missing the 'spacer' so I had to DIY one from some pipe.

Octagon used to sell them with the spacers, but they aren't on their site now :(.

I was looking at those too but was impatient, so placed a wanted add in the classifieds.

Here is my DIY job, it suits my uses but wouldn't be game worthy, picked up the pipe from Screwfix direct with some electric trunking which I used for the torch mount. It was a pretty easy bodge TBH.

Love my ICS MP5s first AEG I bought in 2004 was one and used them since

My first gun, the Cyma MP5K Platinum with the 5KU spitfire/tracer suppressor.  Just back from being upgraded so it has a longer inner barrel which runs nearly the whole length of the suppressor. Also has a Gate Aster, brushless high speed motor and upgraded hop up.  Accurate to 55/60m and 27RPS.

How is the drum mag? , I know they look a bit mehh and are a pain to carry but 300 shots is 300 shots.

It's pretty decent . Does suffer with cool down if you go to gung ho , used it last time I played for a game , just went empty as game over called . 

I have now fitted an hpa adapter in place of the fill valve as I am now running my 249 on hpa on occasion. Took it out to test this morning and that combination is good , and ideal for cqb etc. I like the stick mags normally and wouldn't hpa those , same for the L119s etc .

Just finished putting this together, it was a boneyard Cyma Platinum MP5 CM0.41G which was scratched, bashed and wouldn’t shoot straight.
 

A good clean and service on the inside, fresh coat of paint to the metalwork, fore grip, Nuprol torch, theta optic, a bit of camo tape and extended battery tube for the stock and she’s ready to skirmish on Sunday.  
 

Might pull it apart again and paint the metal parts in camo and add a dummy suppressor at some point but trying to decide if it should stay Matt black as it is a MP5?

How are you getting on with the drum mag? I have recently picked up a WE Apache and I am debating whether to add 2x 45 round mags or one of these.

Hi Baser,

 

it's ok . I've actually hpa taped it so I can run the the MP5 on a tank in the colder months and like that it works well . It's fine filled with green gas too , but in honesty I prefer using the stick mags since i see limited shots and mag changes as part of the imersive GBB play style . 

That said if a game demands a spray and pray style then the drum is better .

Was it easy to convert to HPA? Do you need to add anything to the HPA tank to keep the gun lubricated? I thought (green) gas had silicone lube in the gas to keep everything running smoothly.
 

This is my first GBB and I am struggling with the lack of ammo capacity. It came with 3 mags and I have been burning through the 130 rounds in 15 mins so need to use ammo more sparingly which is difficult as I am used to carrying 6 x 120 round mid caps for a 2 hour woodland game. 
 

I agree with the immersion side, I moved from a 1200 round drum on the AEG to 6 x mid caps as I enjoy the mag changes and keeping an eye on how much ammo I’ve used. 
 

Someone kindly let me have a go with their G3 which I almost bought but decided I wanted something smaller and lighter, also the G3 mags were only 20mm rounds each and he carried 10 mags which weighed a ton, more realistic I suppose. I thought I would be able to hold my trigger finger back but the apache is so much fun to shoot and I like to get stuck in so I am burning through BB’s at the same rate as I do with my electric MP5. 
 

Do I slowly build up to have 8/10 45 round mags or go drum?

The conversion was as easy as swapping the inlet valve for the correct hpa adapter. Yes green gas does have silicone oil in it to help keep O rings lubricated . So far I've not had any issues with the seals in the drum mag though . 

 

The mag capacity thing does take some getting used to . When I run my L119's I carry 5 stanag mags and a speed loader , I can get 2 plus BB loads from a gas fill on those , so that gives me something in the 300 round total for an hour game which I find enough for my play style . It's all working in close to the other team , picking your shots and double taps !

 

The MP5 mags would need a refill of gas too , so when I use those I carry the speed loader and a can of gas . I have 4 stick mags . Just re fill during quiet moments or when re spawning . Same when I use my MP7 .

 

The Apache certainly is loads of fun , I like the 3 round burst on it .

 

I guess it depends on how much you enjoy the mag changes , if you aren't fussed then the drum might be the way to go , I'd still carry spare gas for it and give it a quick top off now and then . If the mag changes are a big part of the fun I'd stick to the stick mags . However if you want to run it in the winter the drum with an hpa adapter will work better given the size of the gas capacity in the stick mags.
