Evidence seems to be going towards that transmission rates go down with people who have caught COVID despite having  vaccine which is some good news.

Sadly my crazy elderly battleaxe Grandmother has been very unlucky as shes currently battling the Bristol Covid Variant despite having her first Pfizer vaccine 4 weeks ago. Shes doing... ok. But it's touch and go. We'll know in a few days time.

I have also been informed that my estranged Father has caught it. Hes an ass, but I wouldn't wish it on him. Mixed emotions.

I wish I could begrudgingly praise this government for their response, but I really cant going by the stats.

I had the oxford AstraZeneca jab yesterday, feel like hammered shit today 💩🔨, but good luck to you & yours, too much heartache around at the mo😢

A lot of good points there @Speedbird_666

I would, however, disagree with your last paragraph.

The idea of vote with your feet to change things that we are not happy with.

Nice idea but doesn't work.has it ever worked?

We vote for who we think will change things but how long is it before we become unhappy because they are not doing as they promised. And that,I think,is because they can't.They are controlled by the faceless moneymen who pull the strings and say what they want to happen.maybe I'm cynical but have had my eyes opened and now can see.

But in any case there is a saying that you can ,'please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Regards

Best wishes for you pa fella and for you.🤞

Unfortunately our usual options are "who do I pick from this bunch of self serving twats", I've yet to see a politician or party that had the best interests of the population at heart...........👿

I hope your Grandmother makes a full recovery, I'm sorry to hear she contracted the virus even with the Vaccine.

You raised valid points in response to my post. I would like to respond properly but I'm cooking a roast dinner at the mo. If I get time later I shall follow up.

All the best.

Snap! Me to. Roast pork with all the bits. Yum.

@Asomodai bad news - hope ya Gran gets through it ok and is back with you being your political advisor ;)

Tis the 2nd person I’ve heard who have had the jab but still gotten Covid-19 sucks massively but they say if you’ve had the jab your less likely to get the more serious side of it.

Envious. I married into a Turkish family, I gave up pork for love.

It's the cheap and unhealthy bits of pork i miss. Haslet, sausages and bacon! Though lamb sausages arent that bad really.

Think I'll start up a "What you cookin'? photo thread" in off topic soon!

They are saying all adults above 18 will be offered the jab by July. Although how many over 18’s act as adults is another matter entirely.

Being “offered” yes but the uptake isn’t the best, my misses who works at a doctors surgery says at least 40%+ everyday either don’t show for their appointment for the jab or when called to book one they are refusing to book one as they are “undecided”

I got a text for mine on Thursday and I had a choice of which jab I wanted so I took the nearest location and got my first jab done @08:30 on Saturday and my 2nd is on the 1st May.........

Anti vaxers and their bollocks. My missus is a community nurse and some of the stories of the hospital wards and how bad it is. The moment I can get the vaccine I will be going.

I wish she hadnt smoked as much as she did in her younger years, her lung function was pretty crap before Covid as it is.

She tends to keep my more incoherent rants tempered, sadly she wont let me do the same for hers!

Wow, I didnt realise you got to choose. The missus family have had both types, the Pfizer one having worse side effects despite public perception stating that Astra is worse for it. Personally (and with no medical background) it doesnt matter which one you take, you may just be susceptible to either ones side effects.

As soon as I get the call I'll gladly leap on whatever's available.

My Grandmother was known as “Rote Helga” haha. Absolutely convinced socialist and always voted for the Die Linke.

And chairwoman is the local factory workers party during East German times

We have some things in common it seems!

My Grandmother was born in Austria to German parents, my Great Grandmother was a staunch Nazi who defended Hitler to the hilt, yet my Great Grandfather was one of the 7% of pacifists and a true leftist socialist. I can only imagine the dinner table conversation.

He was called up to service as a medic.

They both fled to Austria when the allies got close.

My Grandmother arrived in the country after meeting my English Grandad. Of course she is 100% anti immigration now and yes is fully aware of the hypocrisy!

Neither did I until I called, if I wanted the Pfizer that was done at the Royal or General (two major hospitals in Leicester) and the Astra was at the Glenfield Hospital which is like 5mins away.

I wasn’t fussed which and since parking at the royal is stupidly expensive and the general was the other side of city. I went for ease of getting to the Glenfield and I chose the day’n’time to avoid the so called queues, I walked in, sat down to answer a couple of questions and then went to get my jab, I was in & out in 10mins. I haven’t had any side effects or anything that is on the list nor the arm is t sore either, Mrs ain’t happy as her’s hurt like billy’O but she had the Pfizer one :D

You can at least tease her and say you are supporting British vaccines for British people.

Her fault for getting the Yank vaccine 😉

Given a choice, I had my heart set on the Pfizer one considering it's supposed to be more effective against the variants and most of family are in Bristol. We'll see.

Yeah I think so.

Unfortunately my family history is a lot more shady when it comes to the Nazis which is another thread I think lol

@Asomodai I read that to her after she asked what I was laughing at.

The only reason she had the yank one was due to her surgery being able to store the Pfizer at -70, she said that even when they got the Astra one too people where still refusing a jab.

Ah my wife is fine with it really, the fact I was English was quite the stumbling block with one of her family which nearly ended things. I voluntarily gave up pork in the hope it would help them accept me more.

After we got married and were allowed to move in together they asked whether I would have a separate fridge for my pork... It turns out the missus never told them I gave it up... it wouldnt have been a problem after all!

I just stuck without it since as I only ate the unhealthy bits anyway!

In fact the only time I have eaten it since was when the missus tried her hand at cooking and got a pack of special fried rice. She took a bite of it and said it tasted funny, I said it tasted delicious. She didnt know what was in special fried rice... I love telling her Mother about that story!

Is it just me or do supermarkets do their level best to try and hide goose fat? It should be either near the Cranberry sauce or the stuffing. But eventualy found some nestled between eggs and dried pasta in Asda.

I thought the stereotype is that all Germans cook their veg in meat fat? At least they did when I played at a festival in Leipzig! Glorious glorious taste.
