Good gear+gun bag

Yeah i need a bigger bag to fit vest & various other things in
& a new gun bag the zip's gone on the 5:11 bag
as i need to use those things public transport to get to venues

Budget and what length?

I guess if you want a bag for gear just a normal kit bag from a sports shop, it'll be cheaper. A Condor or 5.11 kit bag is like £50-£60

I heard those deployment packs were pretty shitty, Ian? There was a thread on em ages ago or something

Erm Mr_B no idea budget probably 50 pounds depending on how big it was and the ammount it could carry if it could carry gun & kit that would be great if not just something big enough to get my Vest & essentials in it
Must have good zips as 5:11 were like cheese and opened up while carrying it which nearly cost me my aimpoint

I use public transport to get to games. I can fit my Sten inside a Pattern 37 large pack, so I just travel wearing my gear. You get a few strange looks dressed in full WW2 marching order gear but its much easier to carry everything by wearing the webbing than it would be to carry the same weight packed in a backpack or bag. If for any reason I did get stopped by police, its going to take a lot less time to persuade them that I have a valid reason for having a RIF in my bag

Really good quality, holds a rifle plus something shorter like an MP5 or stubby M4. The two main pockets for said guns are split and have velco binding points so both guns don't fly about whilst in transit. One of the front pouches has straps to hold a pistol plus two mags, whilst the other two have enough room to fit 7 PMAGs with ranger plates each. It has a carry handle, built in should straps plus metal loops if you wanted to add your own shoulder sling type setup.

 

Need a new gear bag myself though so can't advise on that.

for rifle length I use guitarcase ('rockbag' - has carry handle, sling and backpack straps). I own rifle cases, but they just gives too much of the wrong kind of attention. for more compact stuff I use my orblite messenger pro from when I worked as a courier. the pro version adds about 10cm I figure.

I think the "tactical" guitar-gun-cases are ridiculous, great idea if they didnt look tactical.

It's a bit hard for me to say really as the only other gun case/bag I've owned was a hard case.

 

All I would say is after wasting quite a lot of money trying to get cheap gear I'm definitely in the "buy nice or buy twice" camp. I will have had that bag a year in January and I could give it a clean and sell it as new as it stands. When I was going to buy that bag I was in two minds as it seemed a bit pricey but to be honest I was happy I went with it when it arrived as it is really sturdy and well laid out.

 

That isn't to say everything cheap is rubbish, just as a general rule of thumb stuff is cheap for a reason. Although you could counter with things being expensive based on brand name. VW Golfs are a good example, they built a good reputation for reliability - although arguably they are expensive for what you actually get. However the end product is a known quantity that isn't going to keel over when you so much as look at it funny

I use a 45L bergen mostly. As an example, my WAS RICAS fits inside it and kneepads, elbowpads, and eyepro inside the vest, goretex kecks and small towel flat against my back inside the interior flap, mags and BB's stuffed into the corners, lunch & water on top - so you should have no problems. I don't usually use the rocket pouches so I zip them off to save weight, but on days when i want the kitchen sink or for weekend maneuvers they come in handy, plus the built in straps underneath and on top for a tent and sleeping mat.

 

Cheap and reliable.

 

To carry my guns I use either a Milan rocket launcher sock to which I added a zip around the lid (for my longest ones) or a surplus duffle bag (although my AK-74 sticks out by a few cm so i cover the muzzle with a canvas bag, but a sock would do it).

Gun bag is still to be decided i just don't want another fright when i see half the stock hanging out the back of the bag while walking down the street lol

You don't happen to know the length of this bag do you ?

My M4 is about 35 inches long lol and if i can get that in there i'll figure a way of getting some straps stitched to the bottom to keep it stable and then be able to throw vest/bb's/lunch/Various kitchen appliances in there as well

Diagonally across the bottom would be 83cm, or if you work out the 3 dimensional diagonal using my awesome trigonometry skills (and in no way cheating and using an online right angled triangle calculator), it would be 90cm so it may just be possible to fit your gun in.

 

If you get a poster tube and cut a hole in one end of the bag, glue the poster tube in place and somehow waterproof it (paint it maybe), you would then just need a Velcro strap inside the bag to secure the stock.

You lads who have been in, does a British Army long bergen have 1 compartment all the way up it? That would fit an 89cm gun no problem. Not as cheap as the 45L, but still should be able to get one for £40-ish. You could probably cut the stitching if they are divided into two compartments...

i'll have to try go doctor frankenstein on a Burgen get a "gun pouch sown into the bag so it slides ib and can leave the rest of the bag free for kit

The old ones used to (i was in cadets) & got issued one many many moons ago..bloody thing was like a bottomless pit haha & like above i was thinking if i could pester a person who does this kind of stitching malarkey i could get some form of pouch to slide the gun into so it aint banging around in the bag & still have room for other kit and stuff

TBH, once you've got your gear stuffed in there, a gun wouldn't bang around anyway. Just lie the bergen down flat to put the gun in, then stuff the vest in, and you'd be able to stand it upright.

LoL depends on how much gear i got honestly the big/long bergens were quite Roomy

will let you know when i find one to buy if i need the pouch or not

Yeah, the more i've been thinking about it, the more i'm tempted to get a long bergen as well. I've recently bought ladders so i can now access my flat's attic, which will inevitably mean more toys
