Welcome to the sport and the forum! Some great advice on here, the guys know their stuff, I like you came to this with a military background and was drawn in to it by handling a GBBR in an airosft shop. I've bought GBBRs since day 1 and never looked back! Sure, I've had my ups and downs, bad days, good days, expensive days and days when nothing seems to work! Too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter! The gun's fps that is! But I love 'em!!
I'm actually looking at my first AEG at the moment, a G&G L85A2 AFV, (It should be called an L22) but the only reason I'm looking at it is they don't make a GBB one! And yes, it would be nice as a fall back on the cold pesky days when i want to hose pipe bods like the rest of em!
For realism, good all round performance and decent value for money I do like WE, I've got a 416 and an L85, but I'm also looking at the GHK M4 10" CQB , because they're reputation for reliability is awesome! I've seen them shoot and was very envious!
Good look, good hunting and welcome to the mistress of airsoft! She is one expensive biaaatch!!!

I agree with pretty much all of this, age is no indicator of being a good bloke or a sports man, I'm an old crusty in my mid 40s, I play with my teenage son, were lucky enough to have a fair amount of gear and after 23 years in the army, I don't mind chatting with anyone, young , old, new or vet.
I'm just happy to play, enjoy the sport and meet like minded people.
Stick with it buddy.

Cool!
Decisions, decisions........

There's a really good intro to comms guide somewhere on here with suggestions and recommendations of various types of radios, the
baofengs are pretty good, cheap and lots of choice for variances.

Slatwall? The type with the metal reinforcing in the groove. You can get all sorts of hooks for that I think. Seen it used in plenty of airsoft shops.
Top tip Ted! Thanks, I think I may have just found the solution for my gun displaying - book shelves - and eclectic military hat collection needs!!

Welcome aboard mate, Mr B is spot on, the Warrior stuff is awesome quality, well worth the money, Helikon is good quality and you can find lots of UK companies on the web, such as military 1st or Helmet World or Flecktarn.co.UK where you can pretty much any camo. Also try eBay as lots of companies use it.

Hmm interesting Ian, got any pics or names of the stuff I could search for? I have two rifles and three pistols at the moment, so I guess you're looking at about 13kg all up weight. I found some 18mm and 25mm pegboard on Amazon, I'm guessing it's referring to the thickness, I would have thought 1" thick would be pretty strong?

Lovin' the Man-Cave Mack! Tacti-cool!!!!
i gotta make me one of those PC/Helmet display stands!! And it's in camo too!!!
I'm moving in to a new place at the end of the month that has a spare down stairs reception room, I'm thinking Man-Cave/Study/workshop/gun room/memorabilia!!!
I'm looking at some peg board and hooks to display all my gun on one wall, if any one has any experience or trip for me, I'd much appreciate it
Lovin' this thread already!!

I agree with both Loz and JC, I think wearing it at the airsoft site is fine, but on your way to and from? No! Put a coat on take off the top layer, that's what most people I've seen do anyway. I will travel to the site in boots and trousers and just wear a fleece or something on top. Can you imagine waltzing in to the services looking like something out of Zero Dark Thirty??!!
Same run as your guns, in a case or bag on the way to and from.
I've met some really great people while I've been airsofting, never met any Walts while i've been airsofting, but I've met a few through my work!! lol.
most guys I meet at sites are very respectful and if they meet a serving member of the forces or a veteran are very happy to chat and ask questions.
My alarm bells only start ringing when somebody claims they can't talk about what they've done "because its classified"!!! Biaaatch purleeeese! That's the biggest Walten-indicator there is!! lol
As JC says, don't be that guy!
Be the guy that plays well, take it all in the spirit and takes his hits!

Drifting slightly off topic, but its been mentioned here, is "stolen valour" or "Walting".
In airosft many like to dress and adopt varying forms of military kit, be it out of necessity, (it's practical, comfortable or camouflaged) or because they like it and it looks cool or because they are trying to replicate and exact look or appearance that may have been worn/used in a particular campaign or war.
when people raise the issue of stolen valour or walting, surely the crux of the matter is the context and if the person is trying to pass themselves off as something they're not?
So you could have a 100% authentic WW2 loadout, no one is going to try to accuse you of walting because you're too young?
If you have a US SOCOM type load out, surely people don't think you're trying to pass yourself off as their nations finest if you're from Dudley??!!
but what if its Brit and you could be in the right age bracket? I've seen a guy who had recreated an almost exact replica of a 3 Para MG gunner from Afghan, it was awsome! but he wasn't trying to pass himself off as something he wasn't, it was, in his own way, his tribute to our armed forces, after all, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
I say where what you like, its all about the context, if you're wearing it because its cool or because you want to recreate that exact look, fine, but if you're trying to make out you're second man on the balcony, then NO!!!
To give my comments a little context, I served for 23 years.

We could form the Peoples Airsoft Reformation Party and stand in every town with Green candidates
Or whats the criteria for getting something legally defined as a religion?
A political party??!!
Association of National Airsoft Leagues anyone??!!
Religion??!! Well I do donate most of my income to airosft??!
Could I be a registered addict??!!

Haha, the SETT is awesome.... or rather it was.... the health and safety brigade (ironic that I now work in health and safety) put a stop to the fun parts as they deemed it too dangerous to practice in a nice heated tank with fully qualified divers and first aiders and a decompression tank should the need arise, instead submariners are now expected to try escape from a submarine in the cold, pitch black, smoke filled and poisonous gas filled environment whilst probably injured with crew mates dead and get it right first time in probably far deeper waters than the 30m tank in Gosport!
Seriously??!!! WTF??!! That's like have paras who've never been trained to jump and just giving them a chute and expecting them to crack on?!! Insane!!!

Welcome back to the fold, enjoy!!!

Oh I do hope and pray that not only does some do gooding politically correct nutter who thinks airsoft is evil gets in to power, but more importantly i hope they don't get in to a position to be a minority in a coalition government and be king maker and make airsoft one of their pet projects the big boys let em have as a sop to keep them quiet! Remember how big a lobby the countryside alliance is and look how far they got?!
I would agree with all that there is a perception in the UK that all guns are bad and all who like em are nutter, but if you talk to people about airsoft and show them what we do and what we use, they're generally very interested. Have any clubs or groups done any out reach like that? Perhaps at Uni?
Having spent 23 years in the military and now 6 years in the diplomatic service, I know when the "good idea fairy" turns up with another load of b*ll*cks!! and right on cue come the Greens!!
PT, thank you for your service my friend, only met your strange breed very briefly during my time, but was always thoroughly impressed with those who'd earned the Dolphins, always wanted to do the SETT course myself, just for shizzles, had some friends in my old dive club, who blagged a dive there!
I think that's far enough off topic now.......

Nothing wrong at all mate, its airsoft, people dress as or with whatever they chose. You're not passing yourself off as someone fro a military unit that used the punisher logo, so what's the problem?

My son has been to Absolute Airsoft, just for paintballing, he didn't rate it much, it may be better in the summer. We've both been to The Mall a few times, its a really good site, especially in winter!
And welcome aboard! My son is in Windsor and I'm returning to the UK soon to live and work in Wimbledon.
This is a really great site with lots of useful and helpful info

Whilst it's true and I wholeheartedly agree with the principle Qlimax, unfortunately there are an increasing number of companies that don't see it this way, particularly if you work involves some form of security clearance. The company or organisation may well have a policy on the use of social media and may wish to exercise some form of control over what you post.
you're right, the simple answer is to lock your pages and posts to all but friends, if the company doesn't see them, then it shouldn't be an issue.
The company won't be trying to control what you do, they're simply trying to protect their image or reputation.
It's not just airsoft either, but anything an organisation may feel brings bad publicity, bar crawls in Greece, drunken parties etc.
It may not be right or proper, it may be an invasion of privacy, but if we put it on the internet, then its so others can see, it's no longer private.
Companies, organisations and governments are struggling to come to terms with this, just as much as individuals are, Welcome to the 21st Century!
I guess the lesson to learn is, think before you post, especially if you work for someone or plan to work for someone who's twitchy about such things?

Welcome aboard mate, I'm pretty new to this too, been playing less than a year, The Bunker was the second place I played, I enjoyed it but I've played better since. I'm moving to Wimbledon soon, so the south east will be my home turf! I prefer CQB and urban to the more purely woodland sites, but I'm up for a skirmish anywhere really! This is a great forum with lots of really helpful and knowledgeable members, enjoy! might see each other on the field some day!

I think I've found my first problem, my rail adapters are for a Comtac type headset, but my headset is a Sordin type! (Doh!!) I think this means that the clips that hold them in place are different?
I've found this company in the states:
http://ironforgedconcepts.com/project/order-sara-gen-2/
Who sell clips thast can be fitted to Sordin headsets so you can have them rail adaptor mounted or back on your head band
They're not cheap, a set of four little clips is about 70USD, then there's their European freight charges!
They do a set of the clips with a set of Peltor rail adapters which would be rock solid, as you say, but its gonna cost me nearly 200USD!!!
The things I do for airsoft! She is a cruel mistress, but I can't help it!!
I'll let you know how I get on...

Oh I tried all that JC, I have an Emmerson FAST PJ, got myself a Z Tactical MSA Sordin headset and rail adapters to go with from Airosft peak, the headset is very good, I particularly like the ambient noise amplification and ear defence cut off when there's a loud band. But the rail adapters are complete dross. In order to fit them to the head set you have to do some serious mod work on it, to strip it down, the metal arms have to be bent out of shape to remove. The rail adapters are poor quality and only one side would fix correctly so that it folds down and seals in place, the other side just wouldn't do it. Still scratching my head for a solution. I'd seen guys running with a full head set under their FAST, but mine is too small, or my head it too massive! I;m a size 60cm and the FAST is a snug fit, pretty comfortable actually.
Any advice on rail adapters gratefully received
Suppose I'd better make the leap..
