  1. That's good to hear. Midcaps loaded with 30 rounds it is, then. I was thinking of going for mid-caps too because I think it'll be handy to have a good number of rounds when I first start skirmishing, so I can spray a bit more and get used to the gun and the game more generally before I try to get more realistic with it all. Offers a bit more flexibility for the beginner. Handy tips on the realism factor though - I will definitely bear that in mind, cheers! I was also thinking of going for a chicom chest rig to hold several mags, but on the cheap. Do you have any experience with these? I read that the pockets on the front can hold 1 AK47 mag each, but as the 74 mags are slightly smaller, could you squeeze 2 in each pocket? Haha yeah, I can imagine RPK mags are a right pain in the practical arse when it comes to using them in a 74, but I kind of just fancied it purely for the looks. Maybe just carry one hicap in the gun and keep the rest as the standard 74 mags, just in case the hicap fails? I dunno. Worth a try though for a game or two, I guess... Again, thanks for the links too. Looks like there is some really good stuff on frontoweic, if a little expensive for me right now. Will bookmark it for later, though.
  2. I don't think I belong here. (By the way, what code do you use to embed youtube videos on this forum?) Edit: Never mind, it does it automatically.
  3. Ah right. I was under that impression, but thanks for confirming all the same. Yeah, I was thinking of picking up some mid-caps and maybe just topping them up with 30 rounds. I had been furiously googling for low-caps initially, but turning up very few results for 74s. As you say, I had also been reading that there's a better selection of compatible mid-caps than low-caps, especially where ICS are concerned. Filling them up a third full shouldn't be a problem, right? Thanks man, that site looks really excellent. Tons of selection and super low prices. A really hot tip there! Don't know how they get their prices so low, but some of the mags on there are like 3, 4 quid less than a lot I have seen on the market of the same brand. Mental. I think this might be just the solution I need. (Even better, they have dirt-cheap RPK74 mags, which I had thought about experimenting with. ) Cheers for the suggestion mate, but I'm really looking to keep to AK74 mags specifically, just to try and keep that authentic flavour. Shame though, because that offer there is a real steal for any AK47 owner out there.
  4. Holy sh*t... Snap! Yeah, the red job they did on mine was actually really dark and very thinly spread. I haven't played a game yet and just through practicing weapon handling and some test firing, the red on the grip is already on its way out. Should be nice and easy to strip down and scrub off with just soap, come UKARA time!
  5. Thanks man, will check it all out. I noticed that the prices on eHobby Asia are in dollars... I'm assuming that this is because their products are for import? Is there any issue recieving items through customs from them if not UKARA registered? Just want to make sure as there seem to be some really good deals but don't want to commit and get burned.
  6. I'd just like to say that this thread is truly sensual. Here's my own AK74 in "wonderful" UKARA red.
  7. Hey all, been a while... Just looking to get some low-cap mags for when I start skirmishing for real and was wondering where some of the best places are to pick some up would be? Looking specifically for the bakelitey style mags, not waffles. Colour isn't really important, but the rust/orange coloured ones would be more ideal.
  8. It's been a while, but thanks guys. I think I'll be picking up the Green Devils ASAP, if they are as good as advertised. How about issues regarding their use on certain sites? I have read here and there that bio BBs are sometimes banned on certain sites, as they tend to shatter on impact and are dangerous as a result, even when wearing eye protection. Any truth to this? As much as I want to be eco-friendly, I don't want to buy special BBs if it means I can't use them in a game.
  9. I would take a "give as good as you get" attitude regarding the whole thing. If someone had spent time and had been stealthy enough to sneak all the way up on me and take me out, I would happily take the hit silently as I respect someone's effort to do such a thing, just as I would expect them to take a hit silently, if I did so. Equally, if someone thought I was not taking my hits, then I give them full rights to light me up until I did take it. Shooting people is expressly part of the game. Why should shooting people once, twice or even ten times over be seen as negative, if it gets people whom otherwise wouldn't, to call their hits? I personally would say that if someone is not taking a hit, when you're putting them out a few at a time, you're well within your rights as a player to give them a pasting until they stick their hand up. But the key thing here is - then you stop. It's not on to be shouting abuse and giving people overkill, even after they do finally call their hit. There should be no sense of "getting revenge" for others not taking hits or whatever, as that just ruins the game and leads to altercations like those above. There should be no bad blood between people, or things get nasty. It's the same with any sport. With regards to the punching episode, I would say a month ban is fair. People are humans. They make mistakes. They see red mist. They push, and shout and throw punches sometimes. Giving them a bollocking and a timely ban is the right way to go. A month is enough to make you think twice before doing it again, but isn't so much as to make everyone terrified of showing even the slightest bit of emotion again. Don't get me wrong, I don't advocate violence. Things should always be settled with words first, but if there's a bit of a scuffle and the two people sort it out between them afterwards outside the heat of adrenaline in a gentlemanly fashion, then I should say there that all is forgiven. Just my two cents. (My rusty, dented, "never actually been to a skirmish yet, so might not actually know what he's talking about" cents.)
  10. A Cybergun M5906 ready to be converted into a MK22 Mod. 0 Hush Puppy. (P.S. I have no idea what I'm doing.)
  11. Hehe, I do realise it's a weird thing to ask about... As I don't have a UKARA defence at the moment, I need to stay VCRA compliant, but I'd much rather have a two-tone gun over a clear gun anyday. Hence, I would like to paint it two-tone to get the best of both worlds. I can't find a spring M5906 anywhere that's two-tone (hell, I struggled to even find an airsoft M5906 in the UK that was still in stock and on sale, anywhere at all!), so I'll have to make one myself, if I want one. Which I do!
  12. So I have an idea for a little project - I want to make a home-made replica of a MK22 Mod. 0 Hush Puppy from a cheap M5905 springer. However, the only models I can find for sale in the UK are clear. I hate clear guns. This is what is stopping me from picking one up and going for this project. So basically, here is my question; can I respray a clear gun, a mixture of black and 51% a bright colour, and still be VCRA compliant? From what I understand of the law, "manufacturing" a RIF from an IF is an offense, but is manufacturing an IF from another IF, albeit in different colours, also an offense? Is the issue the respraying itself, regardless of percentage coverages? Second, are there certain paints one would have to buy in order to be VCRA compliant? I mean, if I were to go for a red paint, could I just walk into any shop and pick up a spray can of paint that is bright red, or does it have to be a particular specified colour (my ICS AK74 is already in a VCRA compliant red colour, so could I just match the colour as close as possible)?
  13. Just picked up an 35L MTP backpack, olive green t-shirt, gun sling and 3 Militaires Sans Frontiers patches. (I'm a huge MGS fan )
  14. cropzy - A Clockwork Orange? "I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm, in flap-jaw space, with the tuning fork, does a raw blink on Hiri-Kiri rock! I need scissors! 61!"
  15. Nice one, man. Sounds like a good one. Any pics of the progress? Like you, I think it would be good for just learning a new skill. Something to do that will be a fun little project as well as picking up some useful life experience that could be used elsewhere when the time comes. Unfortunately, I don't have a mill of any kind - I would have to do it by hand alone, but i'm optimistic that it could be done. It'd be something nice to whittle away the summer evenings with, anyway (excuse the pun ). On my project, now I have a load of free time after Uni and an AK from which to take proper dimensions, i'm going to get on 3D modelling this thing. However, I have another project that i'm curious about. I'm looking to also make an authentic(ish) Russian Army ammo box/crate to store all my airsoft-related gubbins in. Having a poke around google, there is the standard crate-type container, which should be pretty easy to build with timber and the metal "spam can" container that may be a little more difficult. Here they are stacked on top of each other; Now, my question to you guys is this; the closest thing I can think of off the top of my head that looks closest to the can design is a sardine tin (aside from the obvious spam tin, but spam tins seem to be too tall for the purpose) However, this is obviously way too small. Can anyone think of something similar to a sardine can, but sized-up, but would also not be too expensive? If I do decide to go sardine tin, how many BBs do you think your average tin could hold?
  16. Thanks, man. I'll crack it open and see what's what.
  17. I need to pick up some more ammo, having quickly shot through the tiny bag that came in the box with my AK, but I'd like to be as eco-friendly as possible when purchasing some more BBs. Now, i've read all sorts of things; biodegradable BBs choke up your barrel with residues, they take more energy to produce so negating the positives of degradablity in the first place, they only degrade about 2-3 years quicker than a plastic BB which degrade themselves in about 5 years anyway, they do dangerous amounts of damage as compared to a plastic BB, plus a lot of debate surrounding brands and which are the best. Basically, all I need to know is whether they are worth it, how quickly they degrade and - I'm thinking of going for some G&G biodegradables - are these any good? Cheers!
  18. So I finally fully charged my battery and broke out the AK74 for some test firing yesterday. I found that the gun was firing well - nice and straight, hop-up was good out of the box... But with the one magazine in it, it refused to feed more than maybe 8 shots maximum, mostly less than that, on either semi-auto or full auto. I had to keep constantly winding the mag up and it didn't seem to be feeding the BBs up the mag properly. On closer inspection of the mag, it seems that whenever it stopped feeding and I removed the mag to look a look at it, the BBs weren't fed right up to the opening, and when I wound it, the BBs came up and then jumped back down a few times, before being properly fed up into position. I'm pretty sure it wasn't to do with jamming, as every time I took the mag back out, wound it and then put it back in, it would, again, fire another few shots before the same thing happened. Plus, the gun seemed to fire without issue when using the other magazine. I intend to get in touch with Firesupport to see if there is anything they can do for me in terms of possibly sending a replacement mag. I don't have a lot of knowledge on how this all works, so I though it best to get a second opinion before I did so, just to make sure that it's not the gun itself.
  19. Heard this on Radio 1 last night whilst having a BBQ and was all over it. Perfect stuff! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAGVvPfwdCY Also, big into Lone right now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7ftDkMQjXQ
  20. Heh, yeah perhaps I am! That is indeed a very good point. I had never really thought of that. I think there really needs to be a better clarification of be law from the government's side. I can understand that if you wrote a section for each and every thing the VCRA potentially encompasses, it'd be ten miles long, but due to the popularity of sports like airsoft in this country, a section specifically for the sport would be welcome. Then again, the legislation.gov website does say that there are outstanding changes that need to be added to the website so fingers crossed... Either way, thanks for the help guys. I know the two-tone thing has been discussed 28 billion times before and people are probably sick to death of it by now but it really is appreciated.
  21. I see what you are saying here and having read the advice on offer, I will most likely not tape the gun up now, but there are issues here that still perplex me. Still the question persists that whether taping a gun and painting a gun are the same thing, whether they are both classified as "manufacturing" an RIF. If the law states that 51% of the gun must be VISIBLY an approved colour, then the taping is indeed an infringement of the law, but if it is stated that the gun must BE 51% an approved colour, then technically, covering up that colour does not go against this - as the gun beneath is still of that approved colour - and we're back into a grey area. I have seen people also ask if they are OK to add rail covers that would drop the visible percentage of the two-tone to below the 51% mark and that seems to have come across as acceptable, so how does covering up the two-tone in that way and covering it up with tape differ? Both are temporary and easily revertable. However, the VCRA does state "modification", without adding any qualifiers for what "modifications" are under the law, so perhaps that means any such "modification", even if it is temporary or easily removed. I don't wish to sound interrogatory or argumentative, it's just a strange and difficult thought, really. Again, after everything said and done, it doesn't seem worth it to run the risk of messing about with the law, simply for aesthetic pleasure. And at this current moment, as someone who only wishes to go to a skirmish (our next local event is on the 25th of May, which I may well go to, but as of yet have not made any bookings or such to do so), I do not have a defence should anything arise.
  22. Just looking at this DBoys coffin style AK74 magazine and consdering purchasing. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dboys-AK74-1000-Stack-Magazine/dp/B00BG6LVSW Just curious to know if anyone has used these already and if it will fit my ICS AK74. It says that it fits a wide variety of models, but I have heard that the ICS models of AK can be quite finnicky in what they accept properly. Any thoughts?
  23. Do you have to have this in two-tone if you're not UKARA registered?
  24. Used to play a lot of really old Mac games like Myst, Pathways Into Darkness, the Marathon trilogy etc on THIS old thing. 4MB OF RAM, BABY!
