A massive seam of high grade, Titanium yielding ore was discovered in Moldistan last year, unexpectedly propelling this sleepy, poor, woodland country into the limelight of international politics and high level commerce. Operation Firestorm is the third game in this series (although it’s not necessary for new players to have played at the previous two games - it’s easy to just pick up this game at the latest stage). In previous games, the allegedly corrupt and autocratic president of Moldistan, Aleksandr Gretsky manipulated both the US and Russian governments, in order to get the best price for the valuable commodity coming from his new Titanium mine at Gorazh. The Peoples Front of Moldistan (MPF), an anti-Gretsky political body of former governmental soldiers and radicals have taken to the forest to avoid persecution. Their leader Nikolay Jakov, a modern day Robin Hood has surrounded himself with his “merry men” and together they harass and harry the government army at every turn. Since the Titanium was discovered, Moldistan has suddenly become an interesting proposition for the West. Various Coalition Special Forces and security agencies have become involved, much to the frustration of Gretsky and the Moldistan government. This level of unwanted interest has increased noticeably since Gretsky signed a Titanium trade agreement to supply the Russians, effectively shunning the US. Titanium is important to the Russian economy and is being used to produce key lightweight components in their armaments industries. Moscow is therefore very keen to protect their new supply line. The US, not unsurprisingly, would have liked another outcome. In the last game, Operation Tailspin, a coalition spy plane engaged in a black-ops flight over Moldistan, developed technical problems and crash landed in the dense forest that makes up a large part of the country. A red-faced coalition immediately tasked a Special Forces team to extract the pilot (who had safely ejected) together with some sensitive technology, before an international political incident occurred. The mission was a mixed success. The pilot was recovered safely but a flight data recorder, containing incriminating flight logs for the spying mission, fell into the hands of the Moldistan government. However, the Special Forces team were able to partly redeem themselves by capturing a valuable research scientist who was essential to Gretsky’s ambitious weapon manufacturing plans. An expert in potent liquid explosives and miniaturised aerial vehicles (tiny insect-sized surveillance drones), Professor Gagarsky is now sunning himself in Florida with a new job. The MPF were instrumental in this largely successful operation, assisting the Coalition in return for two cases of the finest Kalashnikov assault rifles. Gretsky’s army, the Moldistan Defence Force (MDF) struggled bravely to defend their country against an overwhelming force. Hampered by western technology, troop defections to the rebels and poor support from their own government, the MDF, a disciplined and professional army made a gallant “blood and guts” effort right to the end. This is all now consigned to history. Let’s move forward to now. Gretsky is furious. His Titanium mine is operational, but the Russians are putting on pressure to increase production. With the defection of his scientist, he has effectively lost his “Special Research Facility” and the rebels are growing in power every day. Of course, he will make the most of any propaganda by exposing the flight records of the recent coalition black-ops spying mission to the worlds media, but does anybody care enough for it to make a difference?? Frustrated by the various factions interfering in his country and a growing threat of civil war which could result in revolution and his eventual demise, Gretsky has been seen to repeatedly thump the oversized desk in his presidential office in anger. His latest tirade had him instructing his assembled Generals to “rain fire down on the heads of anybody opposing his will”. Operation Firestorm is in progress – the Gretsky hammer is about to fall and he has some very special plans to turn the tide. Everything is at stake and he has to lift the morale of his troops, make sure the MDF are victorious and vanquish his enemies once and for all. A new mysterious force enters the arena, in the form of Mercury, a shadowy Private Military Contractor (PMC) run by an American ex special ops individual named Granger. MPF, MDF, Mercury or a coalition-led Special Operations Force – who you going to fight for ? 3. Well the base station is made by a player who goes to our milsims and he isnt a member on here, so we dont have any more info than the photo already posted. The other stuff is a mock-up comms system - the working part is a Baofeng UV5 connected into its respective PTT and mic/headset arrangement.
  4. Welcome to the forum. Sounds like youve got airsoft fever !! lol Best thing is to go to a few games, maybe in Kent and rent different guns. Gives things time to settle and work out what you really want before you start spending money. If you play at the same site each time, you can start working towards your UKARA if you are over 18.
  5. I don't think there are any in Scotland which always puzzles me when you have so much open spaces up there. A few of the Scots lads who do milsim seem to come across the border and play at places like Catterick.
  6. There is no single resource for listing these. Also few publish games that far ahead. We have one at Eversley near Farnborough/Hook on 22nd/23rd August and one, probably at the same site sometime in January. Look up Okto Eight Milsim on Facebook. Games are weekend games.
  7. Why do you need 11.1V LIPOs ? You dont need a MOSFET at all if you use a 7.4V Lipo. If you are really worried about wasting your money on this gun, choose something else. With your budget, you are spoilt for choice !
  8. I find there is a lot of smoke and mirrors with the milsim genre - I even produced a kind of "milsim at a glance" table to make it easier for people to assess what they were getting.
  9. Join tne club - Ive never fully understood the difference between filmsim, milsim and LARP. It has been explained to me a few times, but the differences are still blurred. I think what we do at Okto has ingredients of all three, but what do I know.
  10. Well i dont want to embarass individuals but its clear to me that a lot of people trot out the milsim/Tier1/Stirling mantra without any real understanding of the differences and key factors in milsims. References to lots of shooting in milsims, no hit taking problems and testosterone fuelled stamina/endurance challenges i.e. the longer and harder the milsim period, the better it is ! Proves nothing of course but interesting nonetheless.
  11. Answers so far more or less what I would have expected. Some very strange answers from the Airsoft Community page on FB. LOL
  12. I asked this question on a general Facebook Airsoft group and got some quite strange answers. We know what it stands for i.e. military simulation, but what would you expect of a quality milsim game ? Seems to me that a lot of skirmish sites are trying to cash in on what is seen as the current vogue for milsim.
  13. Either buy the Gen2 version and fit your own MOSFET - Airsoft Zone still have some I believe or look at the G&G M4 rifles if youre not particularly worried about the 416 variant.
  14. I guess theres a difference between helping those who try to help themselves and help those who expect everybody to do it for them. Personally, I believe weve largely bred a generation of children with high expectations. Its not their fault - its people of my generation who try to give their children too much materialistically. Also, a combination of technology, choice and availability has turned a younger generation into critics. I was talking to a bunch of youngsters about the new Thunderbirds series. As children watching the original series, we thought it was brilliant. Didnt really take too much notice of the clumsy models and jerky string puppets. These modern day children were critiqueing everything from the storyline to the SFX and CGI.. Spoilt for choice ?
  15. I think you have touched on some valid points. Its not just about technology though. There are more single and divorced parents than forty years ago. Its more common for both parents to work and often weekends. When I was a kid, all the shops shut on Sundays and on Bank Holidays. Its very evident to me on these forums that people dont read previous threads or use search engines. Whether its attention span, laziness or the fact that its more difficult on small mobile devices, I couldnt say. Its probably a mixture. I know I have generalised, but you have to, to a degree as we are discussing trends rather than individual cases. Changing times. When I bought my first airsoft gun, I researched online. I asked a few questions about specifics. There are a lot who ask what shall I buy. When they are given an answer, they then start defending an alternative viewpoint - why ? Is it fair to expect members to give up time playing the patient salesman ? I read something on the Internet the other day when an U16 was complaining about walking into a busy Airsoft shop and they wouldnt give him unlimited time to discuss a bottom of the range BB gun. He couldnt understand that if they had other customers seeking attention who were spending hundreds of pounds, that the shop might need to limit their face to face time with him ?
  16. I also wonder how this affects children ? Just keeping to the subject of airsoft, when I was a child and wanted anything, there would always be a conversation with my father about the merits of air rifles, replica handguns (when such things were permitted) and my youthly exuberance would be grounded by my wise but supportive father. I never got everything I wanted but there was a balance and anything purchased was done with my parents support. My first "weapon" was an Airfix model of a bucaneers flintlock pistol. It never even got painted because I wouldnt wait. My father never put me off my interest in weaponry but he taught me about safety and responsibility. I get the impression that these days many children including my own nephews spend a lot of time playing COD, BF, etc on their own in their bedrooms, communicating with people they have never met or will meet and then get an appetite for weapons based on those "realistic" experiences. They then start looking at airsoft weapons online and asking questions on forums. I wonder how much involvement parents have in this funnelling ? Do they only get involved when the child needs the parent to invoke their over 18 abilities in the purchase ?
  17. In the 21st century where many are prepared to buy online to get the best possible price from a supplier that can reduce their prices because they need no shop or a cheaper business premise, do you think forums and social media are largely fulfilling the role of the missing salesman ? Back in the dark recesses of the last century when people would go to the counter and get served by a Ronnie Barker character in a shopcoat and tie, the shopkeeper would be able to give advice on the merits of a suitable product. I see a lot of review/comparable merit questions on forums effectively asking "what on earth should I buy - can you recommend something" ? In the age when many young people struggle to read more than 60 characters before their attention wanes, there is a lot more questions than reading going on. Is AFUK just another cog in social evolution ?
  18. Well for a start, that linked SA80 wont come with a tactical light or optic for £30. Dont see anything that says "photo only for impression - doesnt look anything like the one in the box" :-) ETA or maybe it does ? note the reviews talk about a scope ?
  19. Not really. At these kind of prices, they are just toys (I know that all airsoft are toys really) bu you cant expect much at this price level. Not being funny but Toys R Us charge more than this for many of their NERF guns. Its worth comparing prices on some of the skirmish retailer sites - have a read through the retailer review section on here to get some idea who they are.
  20. Have you dried the gun out and tried it again since, to remove that possibility ?
  21. I think you would struggle to find a decent electric rifle for £100 bearing in mind you also need to buy a battery and charger. The cost/investment is probably nearer £150 all in. Look at Airsoft World, they have some DE Springer rifles at prices ranging from £25-80. You wont be able to go skirmishing with those but if you just want to garden plink as youve suggested they should be fine. If you plan to leave your garden at some point and join the airsoft skirmish fraternity, it might be worth trying to save up more and start with the Cyma or G&G base level rifles.
  22. Doesnt matter if they're G&G - I think they call them M16 mags
