  1. Sadly the fat mags weren't available at the time I did this. It was made in about half an hour, using all the spare bits of gear Dave and I could find. Do I get double points for having it mounted on the semi-fictional L85 carbine variant? Man, I can keep doing this all day
  2. Very curious to see how the P90 mags work with the M60. And how it looks in the end. How much space is on an L85's front rails? THIS MUCH (Not shown - flash light and grip-pod on left hand side) Year old photo, about a week after I fitted the RIS to the L85. It was my first ever rail system on a rifle. Used once, never again.
  3. It's a shame my FBI overt/covert-styled vest only has 5 mag pouches... The rest all get stuffed in my suit jacket & trouser pockets
  4. Many moons ago, there was a member on this forum and a few others, who was convinced that the standard lenses in his mask (a pre-S10 variant) were bullet proof. He got into a bit of a slanging match with various members here (and on the other places) about the topic. He based his entire argument on one fact - "The SAS use(-d) them, so they must be bullet proof". I'm pretty miffed, I had the chance to buy an S10 on Saturday for £10, but it was sold just as I returned to the stall with my cash. Just picked up 3 more mags for my P229, taking the total to 12. I now carry more ammo for my sidearm than my rifle...
  5. £5 for a second-hand (but near mint condition) PEQ-styled battery box. Looks awesome on the L85. £5 for NIB goggles. They fit right over my glasses, and work better than my shooting glasses. Bit peeved I couldn't shift my G36 at Halo Mill's bring and buy though...
  6. Been doing some research for my dissertation - most of it pretty boring, all of it tedious. Some of it was a real eye opener. I was going over the Ministry of Defence's accounts for the past 15 years, in particular 2010-2011 and 2012-13, and sweet Zombie Jesus, the accountants are clearly retarded. In making budget cuts to save money, the MoD has spent more than it would have saved. For example - the Harrier fleet. It was cut back in 2010-11 (rather than 2016), to save £21 million. We sold the fleet to the USMC, for £16million (so already, we're at a loss). Except - we didn't "sell" them. Before the Yanks would buy our planes, we have to retrofit and upgrade them - and then post them over. At a cost of £1.29 billion. This completely ignores the fact that the Harrier's replacement - the F-35 Super Turkey is 4 years behind schedule, still not out of testing, and now costs £27 million per unit (instead of the original planned £9.6 mil/unit). Radar, avionics, gun and weapons not included. We were supposed to be getting 140 for the FAA and about 80 for the RAF. Now we'll be lucky if we can afford 60 for both FAA & RAF. Jesus, this really is all ridiculous, and just the tip of the iceberg. It's really pissing me off because people are getting paid to do this. And getting away with it. Edit - whoops, I got the Super-Turkey's price wrong. It's not £27mil/ unit. It's £127 mil/unit. Value for money
  7. My attempt to make a NYPD detective loadout has gone a step forward - replica Point Blank overt/covert ballistics vest in navy blue.
  8. A shoulder holster for a Walther P99. Probably the best bit of kit I've bought. It fits under my suit jacket, so I think I've got a new CQB loadout sorted... Worked surprisingly well at Halo Mill last night.
  9. Wait... how? Seriously, how did you find it this time? Did you just fall over it or something?
  10. No, it's just a trick of the light, not quite sure why it came out like that. Although WE's GBB has a green trigger, for some incredibly strange reason. Don't get me wrong, I'm a traditionalist at heart, it's just a case of using what's a hand, and trying to make it work. Learnt the hard way that SUSATs/ACOGs and CQB rarely go well together. I like how it looks now, but I think it'll look a lot better when I find some folding iron-sights and bolt them on. (Thinking of SCAR or Tavor sights). I tried the L22, but I just don't like it - which is a shame, as I think they look awesome. The battery set-up is a monumental PITA, so until that gets sorted (or a GBB comes out), I'll be sticking to my L85 and Carbine.
  11. Going for the second line look? Pretty much what my cousin's unit were using last November, only they didn't have the flashhider at that point. I've been messing around with my L85, trying to optimise it for CQB games. It's not exactly what you'd call... "traditional"... Thing is, both set ups works brilliantly (and if they winds up traditionalists, all the better ). All I need now are some backup/folding iron sights. I do admit that the current flashlight is awful though, so next time Firesupport have the replica LLM01 in, I'll try to get one.
  12. Spent the best part of a morning field stripping and re-assembling an L1A1, L85A1, M1A1 Thompson, a pre-production model MP5 (all deactivated) and a few other odds and ends. Best job interview ever.

Let's just say, that at several points during the morning there were loud "twang" sounds and various bits of gun were catapulted across the room...

Yeah, gotta look out for the 2 stage removal...if in doubt cup the end with your hand as you split it :)

The SA80 family members I dealt with were actually pretty easy, it was some of the older gear that I had problems with. I mean, the Stirling SMG, an utter PITA. Even the museum tech (who used a Stirling in the 70s) had difficulty with it. Don't get me started on the .303 Vickers...

  13. After an odd day in London, I'm eagerly awaiting to hear back from the Royal Armouries to see if I'll have a job with them for the next year.

  14. I'm really starting to wonder whether WE actually have any form of quality control in their factory. Or rulers and tape measures...

At least it's a non-essential internal part and not something like the hop window in a barrel, or the gas valve port on a magazine, since I sold my Gen2 M16A3 I've had nothing but positive experiences with WE.

The comments I got from Iain at Milspec about GBBRs were quite enlightening. Mainly that with the newer WE guns, people usually only have problems if they half upgrade with RA-tech parts. Fully stock are fine, fully RA-tech are better, but mixed tends to cause problems.

I think my next gun will definitely be a GBBR of some description or another, I'm just torn between an L85 and an M4 CQB... Not that I'll be able to afford either for a very long time.

  15. I've had my WE for all of 5 hours, and already I want to melt it into scrap and launch it into the Sun. It's ripped several chunks of flesh from one hand, and 2 important parts don't actually fit. On the plus, it shoots well...

  16. Actually, I quite like the Lambo in the background of the Veneno. Only because it reminds me of an F-22. Does it come in coal-grey and USAF markings?
  17. Dream car? 1964 Aston Martin DB-5. Silver-birch paint. Black leather interior, brown leather covers on the controls. Probably the most beautiful car I've ever laid eyes on. Real work of art. I'd accept that I would have to have some modifications - new tyres, brakes, suspension, airbag and seat-belts, simply to make it pleasant and safe to drive. Actually, forget the modifications to make it drivable. It'd probably never leave the garage, due to me religiously polishing it If I was to pick more recently designed car, probably again go with Aston. DBS, V12. Carbon black. Again, it's one of the few cars that I think looks amazing.
  18. "We'll be round to drop of the package at 1pm today" Really UPS? I've been sat here all day, and according to the status, you haven't even collected the infernal thing. Why people still insist on using UPS is beyond me...

well my stuff usually comes in a royal mail van, no UPS or Fed-Ex bull crap

    3. Hubert

      Hubert

Never dealt with Fed-Ex before. Royal Mail can be hit and miss. Many times I've been given the "sorry you weren't in" card, when the postie has literally just seen me.

haha lol, well i've never had that. They seem to just knock on the door and give what I ordered to me and if me and my parents are not in, they give it to my next door neighbour who are decent enough to give it back to us at the end :D Happy days.

  19. Oh God what have I done? There's going to be a WE box arriving on my doorstep soon.

No internet for 5 days... Very possibly Ed, very possibly. At the moment it's just a flash-hider and rail...

  20. I'm thinking about possibly getting one of these (or their P229), so I'd be very interested to hear your opinions on how it is. Picked up a Madbull 510mm 6.01mm tightbore, systema rubber and nub and some other parts. Hopefully I'll get my L85 shooting more that 6 metres...
  21. Got paid for a few painting commissions and sketches I did recently. Suddenly tempted to buy a WE L85 GBB. Anyone know if they've improved since they first game out?

Even the AK? That's impressive.cost saving if theyve managed to do so- would probably save a lot of r&d.

Their Europe representative have shown of pictures of the mp5 stating it will be released within 6 months too. So expect it out in mid 2016 ;)

Hmmm... having read various reviews (and talked to someone who *used* to own one), I'm now confused lol. No idea if it's worth it or not.

Although I do like the look of the MP5 they're working on...

Should anyone else have any info regarding the L85 (or know where I can get one cheap! :P ), give me a heads up.

  22. So that's what you sound like... Not normally a fan of 1st person airsoft vids to be honest (rarely seen them done well - usually too blurry, difficult to see what's going on, or just boring) - but these are actually pretty enjoyable to watch. I particularly like the angle you get from the camera mounted on your helmet - it's nice to see the gun(s) in action and most importantly, where you're actually aiming. Quite a lot of videos don't show the weapon, meaning it can be tricky to work out what was going on. Kind of like the idea of the commentary over the video.
  23. Copyright and IP wise, most, I'd say about 80% of the Xbone's media stuff (all that non-gaming stuff) will not be usable outside of the US. Half of those features are actually available on XBL now - and guess what, they don't work outside of the US... That said, I'm not a particular fan of most of the media-crap anyway, so it's a moot point to me. I really have to congratulate Microsoft on this one. I've never seen a console-war finished and lost before it actually started...

I mentioned him in one of my first posts Ed! Actually, I recognise him from a few WW2 re-enactment events I've been too.

    World of Tanks

Warning - long, nostalgia and rage fuelled wall of text ahead: It wasn't always that way for Arty. Once upon a time, SPGs were actually cared for, supported, and valued as members of the team. It was a magical time. People would go out of their way to scout for SPGs - but also protect them, knowing that they were useful - but - and this is very important - that SPGs could not win a game. They could help - but the skill/stupidity of a team's arty would not automatically lead to victory. SPGs would - usually - support teams with high damage output, rather than sniping a kill which was on 4%.(This last one infuriates me, especially if there are other targets visible) Sadly, that time is long gone. The player-base became massive, SPGs were unintentionally buffed in a few patches, and more people started playing them. With more people playing as arty, you started to see idiots with increasing regularity, instead of the "old guard" of arty players, who actually knew what they were doing. Rather than 1-2 SPGs per team, we started seeing frankly insane 7-8 SPGs a side (now this has been limited to 5). Combined with their bigger and more powerful guns, SPGs became the scum of the earth. Even in games with a sane 2-3 SPGs on each team, higher tier SPGs could - and often did - win games. In fact they still do. In games of tier 8+, which have more than 2 SPGs each, it's usually the skill of the arty which decides the outcome. Add in the fact that SPGs rarely go for sensible/strategically-wise targets, and it leads to more players thinking that arty are the scum of the earth, and deciding to let them rot (and laughing when the SPGs get hunted down). By this, I mean the "kill stealing". SPGs are about damage output, not kills. So it is incredibly infuriating to see the heavy tank you and 2 others have slowly been killing, get sniped at the last minute by some bastard on the other side of the map (who hadn't shot at him once) - when he really should have been shooting for something more important - like the enemy's SPGs, or TDs... This ignores the inevitable friendly-fire. Usually occurs when the player tries to pull off a mind-numbingly stupid shot. Here's a tip (relevant not just to WoT) - you have 2 targets - one is danger close for an ally, the other is not. If there's a strong chance of you hitting (and killing ) your buddy, it's probably best to go for the other target... Especially if the weapon you're using is a howitzer, which has a very large amount of splash-damage. TL;DR - why don't most people look after or support their arty? 2 reasons - 1)morons, morons everywhere. 2)Due to point 1, people just stopped caring about arty, due to the likelihood that your SPG players were going to be as much use as a paper umbrella in a monsoon.
