The 'What have you just bought' Thread

Picked up a SIG-X5 Open to replace my old X5 Closed which sadly exploded recently. Pretty happy so far, it seems that in the past year KWC/Cybergun have re-designed parts of it which I didn't like/were badly designed. Best bit is, I can recycle a few old parts (like the outer barrel) meaning I don't have to customise everything all over again. And should I need to, I can cannibalise the old X5 for spares should anything break. -
I've no idea what made it happen - neither do the techs at Patrol Base who I showed it to. When I phoned them to say it had exploded, they thought I was exaggerating, and meant that the springs had failed/seals broken/usual gas pistol failure. Not an actual explosion. Sadly the warranty expired either 2 or 6 months ago; Cybergun don't have long warranties. However, having inspected the internals of a new X5 (made 1 month ago), it appears that there was a redesign of several design flaws I noted during my review, so here's hoping the newer ones are better.

SIG-Sauer X5 exploded a few days ago. I'm not exaggerating, it literally exploded. The lower-frame is slightly bent, the slide is broken - the frame is buckled and the mounting bracket for the piston has shattered, and the piston... the piston pretty much vaporised. Half of it is a pile of scrap, the other half... is still missing in my back garden. To repair it would cost more than buying a whole new X5. It's a shame, it was my favourite pistol.

Just ordered some dark blue bib&brace style overalls, a light blue shirt, a tool-utility belt and tan knee pads. I'm going airsofting (and Halloween) as the blue engineer from TF2 All I need now is the hardhat, shotgun and the single yellow chemical-worker's glove Also, for more practical airsofting reasons, today I picked up some black combat trousers to match the black UBAC I picked up a few weeks ago. -

I know two guys with TM P226s and they both say theirs have a fully working decocker, and my KJW (a clone of the TM) also has a working decocker. Alternatively, the decocker only works when the hammer is all the way back - any other position and the decocker won't work. Perhaps yours is broken? Try looking for TM/KJW P226 spare parts if it's broken. Either can be used, but the TM parts will (usually) be better quality than the KJW. -
It's a new airsoft site opened by the Huddersfield based store Patrol Base. I went. I enjoyed it so much I played both afternoon sessions. Really good site, the best CQB site I've seen. As I don't know what the membership consists of, I can't really comment on whether I'd get it - but I'll certainly be going again.

Because you can never have enough members of the SA80 family... Obsessed? What? Me? No... Well, maybe a little... Going to be 'christening' this tomorrow hopefully. I'm not going for a UK loadout, just whatever I think works.

Ah, RVG, that's the one. Yup, I think it's a great little bit of kit. I can't lie, I saw your L85 set up and thought the RVG looked great and I might try it out. Went for black as I didn't like the FG version, looked to grey to me. -

A Swiss Arms rifle torch/flashlight, a 7.4 LiPo & LiPo charger and a black Magpul fore-grip (the stubby little one with a hollow bottom) Can't wait to 'christen' my new L85 on Sunday And another X-Five magazine, just so that I can actually reload it if needed. -
Small enough to mean I'll have to carefully try and trim a normal 6mm screw down to size. Ah well, suppose this'll teach me to want to put a rail-system on my L85... Aye mate, that's the one, the screw that connects the rail to the gun by the trigger guard. If those are the screws you have, I'd be very greatful. Incidentally Ed, is there any way to get the sling-mount out of the plastic handguard without breaking it?
-
Why is that if ever a part is missing from it kit - it's usually the most important, and probably the smallest? Unable to do anything with my rails and l85 until I get a tiny, tiny screw
-
Looking veeeery nice Ed. Needs MORE accessories! You have all that rail space, add more stuff! (Jokes...)

Since EA let idiots rent out servers, I stopped playing. I used to love that game, but no, EA made a stupid choice. XBL is renowned for having trolling morons, so what did EA expect would happen? That it would be like the good old days of BF2 on the PC? No more BF3 for me.

Good to hear you think it was worth it and that the issues can be solved. I think I'll pass if I'm honest, mostly because of the new purchase. And I bit the bullet and have decided to go for the tacticoool L85 route, meaning I'll now have 3/4 of the SA80 family. I'd been saving up for a year to get a new AEG - but I decided that in the long run, since I already have the mags and optics, it'd be cheaper to get the L85, rather than something new (like an L1 or HK 53). All I have to do is wait for the L85 and parts to arrive. This is almost exactly what I've been like since Friday... I may have to sell my LSW at some point in the future though, but it's pretty knackered (but working) and hasn't been gamed with for a year. -
Hahahaha Hey Finius, if you need an assistant to carry stuff, I'm willing to work for free, my only requirement is access to tea In all seriousness mate, congrats and good luck.

As in the... errrr... "gentleman's" magazine, available from all good newsagents? If so, I can only say - I want your job. So, so much, I really want your job.

Shurly you can't be sherioush? Always liked the PP- family (and Walthers in general). What's it like to shoot? Certainly looks nice.

If that was the L1 that was on sale up here a few weeks ago, I gotta say I'm mighty jealous, I logged into the forum 10 minutes too late! Well, I now own half of the rifle to go with the rail system I bought on Monday. By next week, I should hopefully have the full thing Admittedly, it'll be about a month before I can afford the LiPo, but at least I already have all of the magazines and the optic... -
I've got ArmaII's standalone reinforcement pack (but I don't have Arma II), and playing with the BAF/PMC is so fun. Can't get past the second story mission for the Brits though, where the hell are the enemy mortars? Love this game so much. And suddenly, I have a reason to actually buy Skyrim Also Finius, I hope the photography goes well

A rail system for a gun I do not own. I'm smarticles -
Finding at flat. The guy I'm looking with is FUBARing useless, and to be honest, I don't think he actually wants to live with me. He'd rather live with his ex. I don't blame him, but, FFS, his EX. Not current. I've done almost all the searching. So much so, he decided that rather than staying and helping me look for a place, he'd be a complete barstool and go on holiday. On top of this, because I've had difficulty getting him to say what he thinks of the flats I'm showing, 6 GOOD flats have been taken before he could even get his arse in gear and look.

Arma II. I just downloaded the demo on steam, and good God, this game is fun. I have no idea what the controls are, what I'm meant to do, or how I order my squad mates. What I do know is that setting the enemy up as 3 squads of 12 cars, whilst I'm leading a squadron of M270 MLRS, is faaaar to much fun. If you don't know what the M270 MLRS is, google it. You'll soon see why this scenario has had be laughing for the past hour. Similarly, equipping an F-35, and putting every bot into their own jets (IIRC, you can have up to 38 extra bots) creates one hell of an air show. Because of this, I think I might just buy the full game.

Hang on, wasn't that one of the issues the original M16 had? So Bushmaster completely ignored the development hell of the M16? Genius Also - I got my second P229 in April - but due to my revision for my exams, I forgot to post this here (I did post it elsewhere). I found a new way of polishing the metal. New favourite pistol

If I get the money/time, I would like to restore my LSW. If I had even more money, I'd modify it the way I wanted it to be (probably like yours, with the twist barrel) Things are not helped by the shoddy paint job I did on the lower reciever, to replace the red paint. (See photo below) The gear box is fine. The barrel and the hop however, are buggered beyond belief. I can't remember what the last thing done to it was, but it fire shots about 10-15 feet before they sky rocket to the left. Almost vertically. The hop-up unit is stock, but the gubbins inside are not. I haven't used it it almost a year, I actually can't remember what stuff is inside. My carbine - I ain't touching it! It works (in the words of Ace Ventura) B-E-A-U-tiful (baby). I've got it set up pretty much just the way I want it, as a baby-LSW (it sure turns heads when they see it ) (see my avatar) Internally, the thing is stock, and it can out shoot quite a few other guns, so I have every intention of leaving it the way it is. Until something breaks, I have no need (or want) to open it up and 'tinker'. Carbine handguard is exactly the same as the LSW. I like it, it's pretty comfortable. I like the looks of it too, but then again, as you know from my review - I love the looks of the LSW anyway...
-
Aye, I know what you mean. Especially since my experience with the ICS-87 carbine has differed from both my LSW and your IW. (It works beautifully, and I have no intention of doing anything to it, since it's working better than a few of my mate's guns) However, I should point out - I modified my LSW along the lines someone suggested to me on another forum. Turns out he didn't actually modify his, so was telling me stuff based on guess work - which may explain the drastic drop in performance my LSW had post modifications.
