Mack reacted to Potential Threat in New to airsoft, legitimacy of this site?
I'm new to airsoft too Hightower. I have bought every Gun I now own from this forum. I go to the stores as a reference and come ask the question on here. Off of here so far I've bought
G&G cm16 with a lot of internal upgrades (ie , piston, spring, upgraded gears, motor, tight bore barrel and lonex hopup + afg + 4mags + 2lipos and an acog for the same price as your looking at without any extras
M16a4 with same upgrades as above, eotech scope, mags, batteries + torch
    M4a1 standard
2x TM m9 pistols with holsters
All of the above weapons cost less than £500
There's loads of little bits I've bought of here too but irelavent. I've saved so much money on the weapons and got the extras for free when you compare to store prices. I've found that nearly all airsofters care for there weapons like their child and are usually kept in very good condition. So far I've only had to buy a mag catch at £8 and a buffer tube for £15 which the seller reimbursed me for, for any repairs. Anything they hadn't got, somebody found a stockist on the net cheaper than I could find. I've only been on afuk a short time (3months maybe) but yet to meet a dishonest member.
If you go on the section that sell the aeg's you'll see only last week the G&G rifle your looking for in tan with a silencer, batteries and mags went for £100 delivered on here. Don't rush, if you don't see it for sale on here then ask. Some of these guys have more rifles than big daddy's lockup in kickass and might part with an old friend if the guns just collecting dust. I've been well looked after on here. The one guy who lives close to me I met during a deal I now skirmish with and he's my tech. I've also been to a new site after hearing of it here. Build a rapor with a few guys, you'll get more than rifle in the long run

What Mack was intimating is that there is no such thing as a UKARA licence. It is just a scheme run by a number of retailers and subscribed to by most where they keep a database of active airsoft players. All that happens after you qualify (3 games at the same site in a period of more than 2 months but under a year) is that you are registered on the database and given a reference number that you use when purchasing RIFs.

^ I think you need to understand the timeline of events (and silly decisions) that have led to the present day situation in order to answer a lot of that. Essentially it went something like this:

    - 2006: The government decides (probably after a long consultative process that included reading a lot of the Daily Mail) that they can 'reduce violent crime' by banning toy guns that look 'realistic.' They decide that they can't really force everyone to give back the toy guns they already have, so they don't make owning them illegal. They also realise that nobody is probably going to realise or care if they made buying them illegal, so they don't do that either. Instead they just make it illegal to sell, import or manufacture them. They also seem to think nobody needs them for anything useful at all, though another quick consultation (this one seems to effectively been a brainstorm they made on a piece of A4) leads them to the conclusion that some people might need them, but the only people who might possibly have any decent use for realistic toy guns are people working in film, TV or stage, re-enactors or people who the Queen asked to go and buy them as part of their job. So they give these guys a 'pass,' and essentially add in to the new law that these guys will be breaking the law like everyone else, but they can't be prosecuted for doing so. The Violent Crime Reduction Act (VCRA) 2006 is passed. Job done, everyone's happy. Or so they think.

    - Early 2007: Airsoft retailers kick off. "Oh my days blud!" They shout. "What dem man gone done?" They (leading retailers like Zeroone, Airsoft World, Landwarrior, etc.) form a group: The United Kingdom Airsoft Retailers Association (UKARA), because forming a group and getting an acronym instantly makes you feel like you've got big boy pants on. They get a sit-down with the lawmakers and explain what airsoft is and how their livelihoods will be severely affected when the new law comes into play in October. The lawmakers pretend they know what UKARA are talking about whilst they're actually saying to each other: "Oh, I say! 'Airsoft?' How ridiculously absurd!" They show their confusion (and the fact that they seem to think that these UKARA chaps are some sort of tribal lords who have complete control over all airsoft events and retail in the UK) by getting the Home Secretary to add another 'defence' to the list. By the time they get round to this they've actually forgotten what airsoft is, so they just write it down as something to do with "military and law enforcement scenarios." They then reassure themselves that it's all going to be cool because the UKARA tribal council has agreed to set up a database of people they trust and they're only going to sell to them. Obviously, since the UKARA are the only people who are ever going to sell anyone realistic looking toy guns, there will never be any problems ever.

    - October 2007: Virtually all violent crime in the UK is ended thanks to the VCRA.

    - 2007-Present: 99% of airsofters have literally no clue what the VCRA and UKARA are all about. They keep arguing about what 'defences you need to buy' without realising that this makes no sense whatsoever. They quote stuff that the UKARA has made up, like "regular skirmisher," as if it was something to do with the actual law. Additionally, 99.9% of UK politicians and police also have no idea what the VCRA and UKARA are all about, however most people on airsoft forums are convinced that 'we're being watched,' 'our sport in under threat,' 'the Home Secretary has us under scrutiny,' etc. This is all true. Teresa May does nothing all day but read airsoft forums in the hope of gathering enough evidence to finally shut us down.

    I hope that helps.

So going back to the Op and slating the manufacturer.
Having read the thread I just want to get this straight in my head:
1: you bought a brand new gun
2: you then gave said gun to a shop to do a crap load of work on it including fitting new tightbore, new hop rubber, upgrade spring/gearbox and fit a new motor.
3: you now have had loads of problems including a badly fitted hop rubber, locked to single shot breaking and range issues.

I would put the blame firmly on the shop/tech who upgraded this, not the original manufacturer, as there is not much left original except the body, am I correct? Just thinking out loud.

No of course they aren't. This is an issue that could happen to any gun tbh, I think the ares lmgs were quite susceptible but having put something like 150rds through g&p AR15 I can safely say it's not a common issue. Just bad luck probably all manufacturers have bad guns, even those with very high reliability and qc like tm.

Saying this is why I'd never buy a g&p is like saying I'd never buy a g&g because a few mosfets have broken on gen 3s. The reality is that there will always be issues on guns regardless of brand, you just have to hope yours won't.

To be fair I reckon the sort of person who buys 'exotic' (non mainstream) guns would probably have a 'collection' or at least larger total amount of guns. They won't want to spend £600 on one weapon even if it is a TM recoil. They may own maybe 15 guns ranging from cheap Chinese clones at £100 to perhaps a G&G main rifle for say £350.
TM would rather aim at the guy who wants to spend £600 on his main gun which will 99 times out of a 100 be one of the mainstream models.
Yes m4 after m4 can seem boring but there's a reason why every cafe in England does a full English breakfast! It's because that's what the market wants

Loads of people wouldn't buy a GBB AS VAL or VSS, however I guarantee that the TM M4 GBB will sell out worldwide within a week of release. Some places won't even have enough stock to meet pre-order demand.

TM know the market, they've been making airsoft guns for well over 2 decades and are still top-dog for a good reason.
