Okay options. Do you actually need the pistol? Do you use 4 hi caps in rapid order? Remove excess tat from rifle. Just optic if you use one. Sling if you are using pistol. If not ditch the sling and consider a stock mag pouch for reserve hi cap. Reloading from this is likely strong hand so no sling makes it easier. (I actually think you gear list isn’t very much. But I’ve been know to fill out an Arktis Battle vest and carry an M16 with M203….. 😳 and a patrol pack 🥵🤪). Combat trousers often have mag slits in the cargo pockets these days. If yours are decent one hicap each side. Empty slot is for spent mag. Grenades etc and pistol if kept are on belt. Runners pack or camel back. 1L of water, bb’s, radio go in this. Potentially this could be left at spawn point or central location in game field. Police up mags between contacts so weak side leg pocket is ready and either stock mag or strong side pocket is empty/part used. As an alternative a low riding minimalist chest rig could carry the few items left on the belt OR the mags. Any kind of plate carrier is just excess weight and will raise centre of gravity above the hips. Not ideal. A proper belt order, ie sitting on the hips with a yoke is good. It also has the utility of being ditched and put on as a single item.

Beorn What RIF are you using? And what sort of game are you mainly using the sling for? 1) Single point slings are retention device and a little bit of support if adjusted right. Easy shoulder transition. We don’t go hands on in airsoft so security shouldn’t be an issue. With a belt retainer they can keep the RIF out of the way when using sidearm etc. Therefore they. Can be a viable CBQ option or cruising in your IFV. 😁 2) Two points are very much the current flavour so bear in mind even Flannel Daddies comment should have a pinch of salt with them! 😁 A simple one gives you method of carrying you RIF hands free easily. A “tacticool” model is a shooting support and you need to practice the manual of arms for it. Most convertible slings fall into this camp too. A solid option if you need a sling for general skirmishing or a modern load out theme. 3) Three point. Somewhat derided theses days unfortunately. The they do require a bit more set up and practice. They are typically a patrol carry device that allows quick transition to a supported shooting mode, sometimes by switching to being a two point. The other way to use them in like the classic H&K MP5 CQB style as a tension support. Again this needs getting used too. Perhaps a tool if you are mil or battle sim gaming and might be tabbing between fire fights. Or You are doing door kicking with a compact RIF. May be a better option with full face masks as some are designed to accommodate wearing a respirator thus:

Just a small note for collectors about ECWCS colours. US Army Opfor units were issued them in plain grey. I’m not sure which generation these were/are. Nor have I seen a genuine example. I might have to put together a “Circle Trigon” thread.

Yes it is just a strange dress up fetish…. There are some very good things currently. I have a couple of nice special rifs. But I skirmish with a couple of inexpensive “starter” ones quite effectively. Some excellent kit from what we’re once knock off manufactuers. But then again that’s how Eagle Industries started, they were a sideline for a boat canopy maker. When I started airsoft was by default “milsim”. All the kit surplus no real option. Many of the players were ex-paintball and wanted something that wasn’t. Less competitive and day glow. The speed soft does remind me somewhat of paintball back in the day.

IIFS basic set up of vest, dressing pouch, belt, 2x canteen pouches and the field training pack. It’s actually a fairly comfortable set up. The IIFS version field training pack/butt pack is slightly different to the M1956 and ALICE models. The butt pack can be attached using the rear vest belt fittings. 1) The long upper straps thread through the vest D-ring first 2) THEN through the D-ring on the pack 3) and finally through the adjuster on on the pack to secure it The pack can be fitted higher up using ALICE clips. The straps on the top and bottom of the pack will hold items like poncho liners and there are ALICE loops on the sides. The butt pack is a single water resistant compartment with a drain grommet and expanding snow collar with draw cord.

Single points are literally just a weapon retention device. With a secondary benefit of causing the weapon to hit you in the nuts as a reminder to secure it properly. 👍 They we’re originally developed for short duration CQB and often less kit was front and centre back then. Especially the Chalker type slings. Anyway get a three point. Does everything…… 😱😱😱

I got an as new complete LC1 large Alice pack (yup another one) plus a set of SR1 (1st Gen) ITW Nexus buckles to refurb some kit. I’m not sure which is more exciting! 😻😻😻

Of course you can get the pouch wet and jam two mags in overnight to stretch it out. 😜

In summary: The TLBV is not a bad option for airsoft. It had a massive range of adjustment, smaller players will have the pouches in the front. For bigger players they will sit on the sides. Originals and many copies are of decent construction and by omitting the belt it makes a light weight rig. It’s well ventilated and easy to take on and off quickly. Down side for some is the limitation on what can be carried it a belt rig isn’t added. Yep, definitely worth backing up the cord locks with a knot or “toaster” toggle. My PTS Pmags work okay. I do draw and insert the rear mag first so it’s stepped above the front one. Might make a difference? I can see the old rubber ranger pulls being a no go, ‘coz they is Thicc….. 😝

The rat panels are mesh and do not cover much of the torso, minimising heat build up. Features: ALICE mounting points across the back of the shoulders (A) and front of each shoulder with press stud loop. Alice mounting points in the lower back plus hardware (H) for the trading pack (butt pack). There is a specific version to match the vest. A training pack will also mount across the upper back as well. Two frag grenade pouches (F), one on each lower front of the vest. These will hold a compass or two field dressings. Pockets for six M16 type magazines, most polymer ones should also fit. The upper pockets hold two (2) mags and the lower one (1). All the pockets have press stud and velcro closures. The vest from has two adjustable 25mm buckles and whatever waist belt you attach.
