  1. In use last nights “test” was in open shed so protected from wind and rain with an air temp of 6c. Clothing issue ECWCS gen1 polypro long underwear, wool socks and watch cap. Bivi setup was basic foam isomat, the goretex cover and the patrol bag. I sleep head out to avoid condensation. But I’ve never actually had that as an issue. Even the gun is cosy. I had the mat under the bivi bag as there was some debris and the floor, I also sleep with my feet on top of my ruck. Otherwise it’s often better to have the mat inside to stop sliding off. The base of the bivi bag is pretty tough, heavier than my British Army is one as a comparison. Temp wise I was very comfortable. Bearing mind the Polarguard HV synthetic fill is 30 years old, the patrol bag is well used and has been stored compressed a lot. The goretex bivi also makes a lot of difference. If I were to use this in a more exposed place or down to 0C, I definitely would be wearing the ECWCS mid layer. Bivi and patrol bag layered up.
  2. The initial widely issued version is the woodland set. Tennier Industries was the main supplier of ECWCS kit but there are/were others. The genuine MSS sets I’ve seen are Tennier though. Labels are on the foot box. This label is from a later generation foliage patrol bag. The components are: a large compression sack, originally black and then switching to foliage etc. Later versions have a smaller sack for the patrol bag. the patrol bag, originally olive and then switching to foliage and then coyote. Quoted temp range down to below 10c, sometimes 2-10C or even 0C.* the intermediate bag was black and is now available in coyote and I think foliage. This is usually quote as down to -21c but -15c also turns up too.* * Wiki, user instructions and some military users have published different figures. The newer gen bags may be the origin of the lower figures. the waterproof “bivi” bag. Woodland camo, then UCP (well at least you’ll find your pit in the dark) and OCP. There are later improved designs like the Multi Season Sleep System (Tennier). Extra long models have been made I am not sure on dimensions but likely for those over 6’6”. Width wise the patrol bag has plenty of elbow room for me at XL waist size and 5’11”, I have another head length of inside space. Complete MSS in sack and uncompress on top of a patrol bag bivi and isomat. For scale it’s a GAU-5/A 10in barrelled SMG. Yes I am awkward.
  3. Due to a philosophical debate with my wife (which I won) I had the opportunity to sleep in the shed last night. I used the time to think about gear as it’s more important than emotional intelligence. Darn it! We nearly blended in. The US military ECWCS - Extended Cold Weather Clothing System. There is a new acronym that involves “warfighter” for the kiddies as well. The system comes in various generations, currently 1-3. There are material and component changes along the way but Gen 1 and 2 stuff is typically Woodland with Gen 3 in UCP and OCP. Wiki ECWCS page I am going to start with the most important bit, the Modular Sleep System.
  4. Solognac waterproof game bag 100L These are actually blood proof for hauling deer carcasses/dead hookers. I keep a couple in the car boot. Along with duct tape and cable ties. Simple, zip fastening with shoulder strap and give your kit reasonable weather protection for £20. Or a large ALICE…… 🇺🇸
  5. Is this a typo? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142188619783?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&var=441255547652 £200+ for a highlander kip mat? I know it’s not airsoft but there seems to more of this kind of thing on fleabay/scamazon in general. Do they actually sell?
  6. That’s one way to explain the stains… 😉 This was the cleaner reference, I was going to use something else.
  7. 20) Woodland was used on a lot of issue gear: Battle dress uniform; hot weather uniform; cold weather uniform; aircrew uniform (what Dutch’s team in Predator wear); clothing accessories; poncho & liner (woot); chem suit; mopp suit; tyre covers; close combat uniform (trial); advanced combat uniform (before and after UCP). 21) Speshul peeps love it. They had Raid bdu’s and now woodland cyre kit.
  8. I will take that suggestion to work. In the interests of fairness I tried the standard quarter pounder. It was edible, especially when mixed with melted fruitella. I should stick to my usual .
  9. Was it filmed in Sandford? ”…farmers, farmers mum’s…” (I am not mentioning the greater good)
  10. “I’m a lead farmer mutha’ fooka” “Well, l’m just a Melon farmer”
  11. The missis just spotted I ordered a ballistic computer for a howitzer. The thing is it was an impulse buy.
  12. At last a reason to carry my entrenching took other than for frying eggs. Although with a name like “enimine” I was expecting Denis Quaid to front it.
  13. What no MC51 fan’s? Had Noboby gone G3 SAS slap happy? Call yourselves airsofters? I am ashamed! G3 AM BESTEST GUN!!!!! GOAT!!!!! Anyway enough if that. I do find it amusing when the post starts with “I am being controversial for not using an M4, but something that looks rather like one, but with a slightly thicc(er) mag.” 😆
  14. Bianchi brand double pistol mag pouch. Usually seen on military security and police belt kit. There are double (shown) and quad mag versions. The Lower stud accommodates single stack mags. It has a plastic insert so protects mags better than the standard ALICE version which is just fabric.
  15. I have a few Tactical Tailor Mini MAV’s over the years but £20 is hard to beat. Probaby the smallest size is four columns of you are considering even bothering with a rig. Three shingles and a small utility is actually enough for most games. Mid caps plus bangs and maybe a speed loader.
  16. Nah, I think it was the same artist that worked Lionel Richie’s head.
  17. Do these cnuts write speeches for the Government? They clearly lie like Boris Johnson at a wankerthon in aid of entitled handsandy tit buggery.
  18. For reasons I cannot explain I bought myself a Rustlers Meatless Maverick for lunch today. Jesus fucking Christ. What a pile of shit. The bit that was supposed to be the burger looked like the contents of a babies nappy. Not just any baby, but one that had shat out six pints of Guinness after an especially low grade kebab. I tried one bite, being one not to waste food, it was more than I could stomach. It was SO bad I had a pang of sorrow for vegetarians (but not vegans) who may have had this as their only option to stave off hunger. I hope whomever at Rustlers decided to bring this to market is ashamed of themselves. Even the bap was rubbish. The top being rock hard on toasting and the bottom as limp as Rolf Harris’ legal defence. In all as welcome as a chat up line from Anne Widdicombe. 💩💩💩
  19. The Ghosts were so ahead of their time they had a lefty CAR ready for Ian McCollum. I’m not sure of the cover art was based on the in game models, I kind of assume it would be the other way around. There is an ultra realism mod for the pc game on the way. 😁 Some of the specialists are skins in the latest GR. 🙄 Happy days from Lindy Cohen and the OICW. Need an airsoft one….
  20. Oh yeah and because it’s the camouflage of these guys…. … the original and still the best. 😘
  21. I do find the apparent change in US “gun culture” in the last decade or two interesting. It’s become a thing when a generation ago guns seemed to be much more of a tool for hunting/sport. Now there is a whole industry in selling the next home defence CAR-15 derivative. Most of my experience with the US is working along side them and getting the impression that is really two different counties. I guess that’s reflected more than ever in the politics. Unqualified gun ownership, US constitution doesn’t quite say that but hey that’s their legal system. The UK as has been said is quite regional and certainly a divide between town and country on this issue. Growing up in a rural area and working on farms it was excepted to have access to and use firearms relatively young. Urban expansion has forced many ranges and other field sports business to move. Pressure from certain parts of the political spectrum have tended to demonise the firearms and country sports in general. The Legal response to specific horrific incidents has had an effect on some types of gun crime. My feeling is social change has had the most impact. Living in a country where I do not have the right on carry a firearm wherever I go is fine. If it’s balanced by the fact that I do not need to carry one to be safe from crime. But never say never. And there are options to own and use a variety of firearms for sport.
  22. The 1980’s…. ….. the last time every village had a warm bank.
