  1. @gavinkempsell no criticism implied, but handy hint for you (and any other readers) that when pasting URL links, you can almost always trim off the '?’ and everything after it. That contains meta information that is usually concerned with tracking how you got there, rather than identifying the page you want to get to. Trimming all that stuff off makes links much shorter and easier to read ?
  2. It turns out the weird shite I was suffering yesterday was mostly likely down to crap in the barrel... There was a visible ring of cruddy stuff a few centimetres down from the breech. I cleaned it out with some kitchen roll on my cleaning rod, it came out blackened. Looks like the same stuff that I get on my fingers when handling the bolt - a combination of oil/grease, general dirt and perhaps worn metal? Once cleaned and reassembled I went through a couple of mags without a hiccup, whereas before I'd had shots where nothing seemed to come out of the barrel, and other times shots were flying out of end of the suppressor at odd angles. (The suppressor contains a series of foam rings, they are still all in place) It does seem odd that so much trouble was caused by a little dirt, do I need to give the bolt and inside of the upper receiver a good scrub and re-lube? In other news the Odin adapter should be here in a day or two. The chap who makes them told me the mag spring is very stiff so the whole thing has to be held together tightly to allow it to work. I shall report as soon as I can test it... But does that hint the springs need some more breaking in?
  3. This is the sort of routing you should see on the motor (pic nicked from t'interwebz), but I think the start point of the wires can be different for different guns... iirc my SIG has both at the front initially. (Edit: yeah , just checked. The SIG has loads of room around the motor so really it barely matters, whereas I remember the DE being a tight squeeze, so had to get the routing 'just right') Just make sure you take a pic of the current orientation before changing stuff, it's easy to get the motor the wrong way around, or connect the terminals incorrectly so I hear
  4. Sorry @Dac76, for to my Tippmann still not quite skirmish ready (mostly due to me not being able to see well enough with contact lenses / goggles to attempt fine adjustments on small components on the range), I didn't test the bottle in the pouch in battle conditions. I do suspect weight will be an issue, the back of my belt is already sagging with the spare BBs I carry at the back. (I have lost some weight, now slightly less fat... maybe I just need to tighten everything up)
  5. As the standard design expects the height adjustment to work, then surely it must have just been put in to the pistol grip incorrectly, with a wire out of place? It's quite easy to get the wire down the side of the motor rather than across the top (but routed correctly around the terminals etc)
  6. Yeah I'm afraid I did light you up Dan, but it was mostly your fault ?. I'd opened up at you earlier in the game full auto (at a sensible distance), and you'd Matrixed / lucked your way through the bullet stream... I wasn't going to let that happen again when an objective was at stake! Good news with the ICS Scarab, I've just been preparing to do a spring swap to improve on the low chrono reading, but I thought I'd give it another test. Turns out it had loads of hop wound on, and it's actually hitting 310 FPS with 0.20s when it's set sensibly. I'm looking forward to trying it again. I just have to choose between shimming the magwell so it'll take the flash mags, or using my recently acquired set of polymer midcaps. Given the enjoyable RoF I suspect it'll be the former!
  7. Nice to meet you too, sorry I didn't get to sort you out a go on my '416.... Next time.. When it's hopefully behaving itself! Edit... Mention of fogging... I heard a few people complain of the same thing today. I have to say my ESS goggles were perfect through the whole day (and I worked up a good sweat). I lent my old pair to Dan and he fogged up instantly. So my recommendation counts for nothing, but I love them - for me ?
  8. Well I'll be honest, turning up at Spec Ops today with more guns than I could actually count (probably nine) was a stupid, stupid, STUPID idea. Best intentions and all that, but I didn't even get to shoot a couple of them at the range! And carrying all those gun cases gave me most of the back pain I suffered when I got home ? Anyway, usual good news / bad news scenario.... Good news: Usual super friendly welcome from Carlos, Will, Nathan and Jet, and of course @Dan Robinson and his son and friends Bad news: The. ICS Scarab has a crazy nice rate of fire, but it seems that's due to a fecked spring, it was only hitting 200fps on 0.28's New spring should sort that out. I think it has a quick change system so should be fine. My beloved VFC HK416 has not been improved by the new hop rubber. It's become... Naughty... Sometimes it does well, sometimes it drops BBs at my feet. I suspect it's the wrong size and not sealing well. I started the first game with it, but swapped out to Old Reliable, Mr Eagle Good news / Bad news: The SIG was excellent on the range, and at lunchtime when I stayed on the game site to do some long range testing it could hit out to the same range as the DE, though a little more dispersion. Bad news was when push came to shove I still picked up the DE BAD NEWS: Messing with my guns at lunch made me miss the burgers and jerk chicken. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ? Good news: I played with my Rossi sniper rifle for quite a while. Racked up a bunch of kills from the sniper tower and really enjoyed myself with what is quite a basic rifle. Appetite whetted for a better one! @Rogerborg's Tac-41 might find itself on my shopping list! Smallish player numbers today, again that was quite good news in terms of allowing a team to make a successful break through. Very enjoyable day!
  9. You have broken the first rule of Airsoft, using the words "too many" when the correct phrasing is "too few" ?
  10. Tomorrow is a skirmish at Spec Ops, so I spent part of today getting the gnus from the loft and fettling them for a turn on the range... and, if they're very very well-behaved, a bit of proper trigger time on the battlefield The number of gats is getting a bit out of hand when they're viewed as a collection! There are several missing from the pic too - my old M16 (dead motor), my AK47-S (mags need new springs) and my wall-hanger L85.. and 3 other pistols. The F2000 project gun at the bottom of the pic makes me sad. It's got some nice components in there and rips like a beast when it's running, but it's not worked properly long enough to skirmish yet. Tomorrow I'm hoping the SIG, the ICS Scarab (with it's fun RoF) and the Tippmann M4 will get some time to shine on the field. But I'm planning on hauling almost all of them to the range so I can check they're in good nick. Wish me luck
  11. I've got a generic Viper molle pouch on my belt which holds my 48cl tank quite snuggly.. tomorrow might be the first attempt to actually properly skirmish with it though, so I'll report back if that happens! Edit: Here you go...
  12. This is probably bloody obvious to most of you, but today I discovered that my somewhat wheezy gun was cured of its asthma with a few turns on an Allen key to raise the motor height and get it adjusted correctly. Now the gnu sounds nice and snappy! It's a shame my accuracy testing showed it's not shooting quite as tightly as it did before I worked on it. Definitely fine for CQB and maybe it just needs to settle down again. I'll be taking it for a proper outing on Sunday thanks to @Cannonfodder's donated high caps (cheers again!)
  13. Yeah I'm fairly sure I made it a little worse... some of the shots are going in to a 1" bullseye, but I also have occasional fliers that don't hit the (portait) A4 page at 17 metres I think it needs to bed in, at least it's holding on to the hop setting again, so it'll be useable! Thanks, I'll definitely be interested in your hop unit
  14. I got an email from Bespoke Airsoft recently - but only just got around to reading it, advertising a gnu that's back in their stock list... it's a Rossi L119A2 Now normally I probably wouldn't have clicked the link, but I do actually own a Rossi sniper rifle... although I bought it used, on a whim, it's quite a nice VSR clone. So I had a look. It looks rather nice, and I rather suspect from the specs that they've possibly borrowed the Double Eagle's Falcon control unit - it has active braking plus binary and burst modes. It also comes with a 16:1 gearset, a Quick Change spring system, and an ML hop + Omega nub pre-installed. For £290 it might not be the greatest value when compared to the DE's, and it's certainly no true L119A2 clone, but someone might like this for the trades etc as a good jumping-off point for a 119 build https://www.bespokeairsoft.co.uk/rossi-l1911a2-full-metal-airsoft-gun-with-mosfet
  15. I cut and then filed the rib off and managed to re-assemble everything, I've had a quick test fire and it seems ok, but I can't tell if the accuracy is better, or if the hop is working as well or better, as I've only got ~17m to shoot across. And as soon as I started shooting the wife went off at me, so didn't manage many shots! Sunday will be the big day!
  16. Thanks @Lozart that's an 11.1v 2600mAH crane stock battery (3-way split) ordered for arrival tomorrow (or Friday at worst), £31 inc postage ?
  17. Not for the 1400mAH stick I already own and would buy more of ?
  18. Yeah I've resisted the temptation to do it before, but the guns rate of fire has dropped recently (not by much, but enough to show up when testing using my chrono)... I'll swap the motor first
  19. I have one Turnigy nano tech battery, it has been good. I think I had another a while ago but I managed to get clumsy when converting it to Dean's and shorted the bare wires (not on each other, but across something metal on my desk), puffed it! What are Hobby King's delivery times like though? Edit: The user interface fooled me (again) into thinking I couldn't buy the battery... figured it out on the second look. However, only shipped from Hong Kong, so the delivery time is too long, and it costs £24! Which kills the advantage of the low price of £6 for the 1400mAH stick. I might order a few for future use, or resale here.
  20. Excellent, Vapextech, yeah they've got a decent rep, I believe my 7.4v pack is one of theirs... The only issue is the (very reasonable) p&p of £3 might not get them to me in time. Ah well, I have other batteries, I should be able to get through the day, especially if my GBBR is sorted in time.
  21. The most annoying 'feature' of my otherwise beloved Double Eagle M906 gnu is that the Falcon fire controller drains batteries until they're dead, if not disconnected within a day or so. I managed to leave my Titan 11.1v 3000mAH nunchuck in there after a test fire, and it's killed it to death. Yeah, proper. Not even ze Germans could have done a better job So I could just buy another, but I thought I'd ask if there's a better / cheaper option out there that doesn't involve me spending £40 + £10 p&p to get another Titan (from Platoon Stores) in before Sunday's Spec Ops visit. I'd probably rather stick to one chunky nunchuck, but maybe two smaller sticks would be a sensible alternative - I might only kill one relatively cheap battery if I make the same mistake again! So the main criteria for success - must be in stock right now, and quickly available for a sensible postage cost
  22. Riiiiight... I have finally managed to crack open the hop unit on my 416. I bought some 'Screw Grab', which is a paste containing metal filings which helps the screwdriver grip the screw head. And I bought a set of screw removal bits (burnish + reversing drills) Deep joy, I actually managed to extract one of the damaged screws with the removal bits... but the other wouldn't budge, I ended up just drilling it out. Guess I'll need to buy a new hop unit (less than £20 for the two halves from WGC... though god knows what the p&p will be) Anyway, I could finally change the hop rubber for the Maple Leaf Autobot 60deg I bought a while ago. It doesn't look the same as the black standard rubber... there's an extra rib on one side for which there's no slot on the hop unit. Did I buy the wrong one, or do I just have to file / cut that rib off?
