  1. This is probably bloody obvious to most of you, but today I discovered that my somewhat wheezy gun was cured of its asthma with a few turns on an Allen key to raise the motor height and get it adjusted correctly. Now the gnu sounds nice and snappy! It's a shame my accuracy testing showed it's not shooting quite as tightly as it did before I worked on it. Definitely fine for CQB and maybe it just needs to settle down again. I'll be taking it for a proper outing on Sunday thanks to @Cannonfodder's donated high caps (cheers again!)
  2. Yeah I'm fairly sure I made it a little worse... some of the shots are going in to a 1" bullseye, but I also have occasional fliers that don't hit the (portait) A4 page at 17 metres I think it needs to bed in, at least it's holding on to the hop setting again, so it'll be useable! Thanks, I'll definitely be interested in your hop unit
  3. I got an email from Bespoke Airsoft recently - but only just got around to reading it, advertising a gnu that's back in their stock list... it's a Rossi L119A2 Now normally I probably wouldn't have clicked the link, but I do actually own a Rossi sniper rifle... although I bought it used, on a whim, it's quite a nice VSR clone. So I had a look. It looks rather nice, and I rather suspect from the specs that they've possibly borrowed the Double Eagle's Falcon control unit - it has active braking plus binary and burst modes. It also comes with a 16:1 gearset, a Quick Change spring system, and an ML hop + Omega nub pre-installed. For £290 it might not be the greatest value when compared to the DE's, and it's certainly no true L119A2 clone, but someone might like this for the trades etc as a good jumping-off point for a 119 build https://www.bespokeairsoft.co.uk/rossi-l1911a2-full-metal-airsoft-gun-with-mosfet
  4. I cut and then filed the rib off and managed to re-assemble everything, I've had a quick test fire and it seems ok, but I can't tell if the accuracy is better, or if the hop is working as well or better, as I've only got ~17m to shoot across. And as soon as I started shooting the wife went off at me, so didn't manage many shots! Sunday will be the big day!
  5. Thanks @Lozart that's an 11.1v 2600mAH crane stock battery (3-way split) ordered for arrival tomorrow (or Friday at worst), £31 inc postage 👍
  6. Yeah I've resisted the temptation to do it before, but the guns rate of fire has dropped recently (not by much, but enough to show up when testing using my chrono)... I'll swap the motor first
  7. I have one Turnigy nano tech battery, it has been good. I think I had another a while ago but I managed to get clumsy when converting it to Dean's and shorted the bare wires (not on each other, but across something metal on my desk), puffed it! What are Hobby King's delivery times like though? Edit: The user interface fooled me (again) into thinking I couldn't buy the battery... figured it out on the second look. However, only shipped from Hong Kong, so the delivery time is too long, and it costs £24! Which kills the advantage of the low price of £6 for the 1400mAH stick. I might order a few for future use, or resale here.
  8. Excellent, Vapextech, yeah they've got a decent rep, I believe my 7.4v pack is one of theirs... The only issue is the (very reasonable) p&p of £3 might not get them to me in time. Ah well, I have other batteries, I should be able to get through the day, especially if my GBBR is sorted in time.
  9. The most annoying 'feature' of my otherwise beloved Double Eagle M906 gnu is that the Falcon fire controller drains batteries until they're dead, if not disconnected within a day or so. I managed to leave my Titan 11.1v 3000mAH nunchuck in there after a test fire, and it's killed it to death. Yeah, proper. Not even ze Germans could have done a better job So I could just buy another, but I thought I'd ask if there's a better / cheaper option out there that doesn't involve me spending £40 + £10 p&p to get another Titan (from Platoon Stores) in before Sunday's Spec Ops visit. I'd probably rather stick to one chunky nunchuck, but maybe two smaller sticks would be a sensible alternative - I might only kill one relatively cheap battery if I make the same mistake again! So the main criteria for success - must be in stock right now, and quickly available for a sensible postage cost
  10. Riiiiight... I have finally managed to crack open the hop unit on my 416. I bought some 'Screw Grab', which is a paste containing metal filings which helps the screwdriver grip the screw head. And I bought a set of screw removal bits (burnish + reversing drills) Deep joy, I actually managed to extract one of the damaged screws with the removal bits... but the other wouldn't budge, I ended up just drilling it out. Guess I'll need to buy a new hop unit (less than £20 for the two halves from WGC... though god knows what the p&p will be) Anyway, I could finally change the hop rubber for the Maple Leaf Autobot 60deg I bought a while ago. It doesn't look the same as the black standard rubber... there's an extra rib on one side for which there's no slot on the hop unit. Did I buy the wrong one, or do I just have to file / cut that rib off?
  11. To fit in the stock stock (har har), I used the likes of a Turnigy Nano Tech 1200 mAH stick battery (and I rewired to a Deans connector) You'll need a couple of those for a day's skirmishing. (I'd need 3 as I'm a trigger-happy chap) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143013311203 You might be able to find this cheaper elsewhere (should be £15), but it's hard to find stock. Edit: These guys are cheaper and will fit a Deans connector for a quid (worth doing), but the £8.50 p&p is a bit harsh. You might want to invest in an extra mag, and some BB's in the order to make the postage cost a bit more palatable! https://www.targetszone.co.uk/turnigy-111v-lipo-3-cell-1200mah-2010-p.asp Edit 2: "Bugger". I've just discovered I've broken the cardinal rule of owning a DE, I left a battery connected to it for more than a day. I've killed my battery (a chunky Titan Li-Ion which ain't cheap). Don't do that
  12. Luke at Negative Airsoft has just published an upgrade video of an M906C He gives it big love I think mine has definitely started to run at a lower RoF than it used to, really time to get a replacement motor in, and by the contents of this video I should crack open the gearbox to check the o-ring and piston etc are all ok I'll need some Brave Pills, nurse
  13. I had an excellent airsoft day, thanks to the enormous kindness of @Cannonfodder who gifted me a bunch of SIG mags he was no longer using... it's made the gun skirmishable, and more handsome... You sir are a gentlemen and I owe you at least a couple of pints if we ever meet! Thank you ☺️
  14. That's excellent news, looking forward to it. I haven't yet found anything that will remove my cheesed screws from the hop unit, so I'm stuck with whatevers in there for the moment. The TNT barrel setup would at least give me a simple replacement so it's tempting if it turns out to be good
  15. So I'm going to have to watch a bit of an awful series now 🥴 I sent the mag off, will get to see how good the adapter is...
  16. A vote of confidence for the TM D.O.R. from me, it's a great pistol that has worked even in the cold of winter. I am thinking of getting an M9 as an alternate, because I think they do look very cool, and I like the double action trigger as that means I don't need to leave the gun cocked in my holster. Or a Glock, though I'm wary of the newer versions with their big mag release buttons being famous for losing mags. If you go with some flavour of TM then try to get one of the newer models with the enhanced 15mm Blow Back Unit, and the thicker mag. The extra gas and power give the best performance. This includes the DOR, the 5.1 Hi Capa, Gold Match, the FNX-45, PX4, M9 and the newer Glocks. There's a list out there somewhere**. Be careful as different versions of the same gun may or may not have the enhanced BBU, and if you're going with TM and their plastic slides, you might as well get the best of them. Alternatively, if you want the feel of a steel slide and are prepared to lose some performance*... Well I'll let other people make recommendations there. * Where performance = ability to spam the trigger without getting cool-down effects really quickly. You'll probably get more raw performance in terms of FPS from most other guns as TM's run at 'only' 280-300fps but have a very good range and accuracy regardless. Good ol' TM pixie dust in the internals! ** Edit: here's the list from a 2 yr old reddit post, I'm pretty sure the M9A1 can be added to the list, and it's missing the H-Capa Gold and the DOR which definitely have the 15mm unit... "The following TM's have the 15mm enlarged cylinder: USP, USP COMPACT, M&P9/PL, Beretta Px4, HK45, FN45x, G19 GEN3, G17 GEN4, M45A1, V10 Ultra Compact"
  17. We've had quite a few spammers today, for some reason. Very satisfying knocking them on the head
  18. ... it's got a laser that probably used to be on a shark, and it's see-through like an iMac, what's not to like?
  19. I added a restock alert on the Airtac website, for the Odin adapter. It's just popped into my inbox https://www.airtac.me/shop/p/vfc-m4 Now the thing is it's £30, whereas the eBay adapter will only cost me the price of posting my magazine off to the chap to create the adapter (that's how he works... He'll then add it to his shop for sale at the normal price) The eBay version is rather less impressively made (judging by the pics), on the other hand the WE M4 version sells for only £16. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ODIN-Sidewinder-Hand-Crank-Airsoft-Speed-Loader-Adapters-/223829128666 I guess I'm going to try it out, I'll lose a mag for 2 or 3 weeks, but it'll be useful to try it for you guys
  20. The duel is off. I was just about to re-watch Barry Lyndon for some tips, too
  21. My boots have arrived! Very good condition, good size (fairly snug, once I'd put some cushion insoles in them - I hope my feet don't swell tooooo much through the day) Very happy at £38 inc postage off eBay (a one-off sale, though the seller does quite a bit of surplus stuff). Noticeably not as much ankle support as my high-top para boots (well, duh) but a good deal lighter and more comfortable. M'wife keeps on at me to go on some 'power walks' with her... as I can't find my proper jogging trainers anywhere, I think I'll wear these instead, get them moulded to my tootsies in preparation for the next game day.
