The 'What have you just bought' Thread

Yeah Gavin, it does seem to be a bit of a theme of bashed up TM MP7s recently, I can see that plenty of parts are available from wgc, so it's not too frightening to fix one up, but the price had better be right! I would consider a Vorsk for shits and giggles, because at the current used prices (mostly quite sensible) I could try one for a while and get almost all my money back if / when I move it on.

V2 Gearbox exploded. One more spring to go?
RostokMcSpoons replied to AshOnSnow's topic in Electric Guns
The promised picture would be very helpful at this point! Edit: sorry, missed your edit with the pics Looks like a trigger spring to me, but if you have already got that in place... Yeah, confused ? -

Trigger spring? -
Here's the video. The comments are interesting. Edit: Here's the actual comparison video, I'll leave the VFC review below as that's useful too

I watched a comparison video recently, because I have the same decision to make... I'll try to find the video but the takeaway message was that both are great, you'll be happy with either, but maybe if you had the choice in a shop, the VFC is probably the one to get. But it might come down to personal feels ? The VFC is 1:1 full size, is made of a better polymer and is (surprisingly) lighter (more felt recoil). The TM has cheaper mags and more aftermarket parts. It's heavier because the external plastic is less strong, so it has a steel skeleton to reinforce it inside. Plus it has the famous TM pixie dust of course. To twist the old IBM salesman phrase, no-one ever gets fired for buying TM ?

I'd best say right from the off, this isn't a troll question, I'm genuinely interested in the answers because I've been in the market for an MP7 for a long time now (unemployment has denied me the ability to buy one already) So yeah, I've been watching the classifieds both here and other sites for a while, looking for a TM or VFC MP7 to buy. There have been quite a few, and the rate of them appearing has accelerated recently, it seems. I guess the cold winter months won't help, all the gas guns move towards the back of the gun rack, figuratively speaking, as they become less effective for a few months, but still... I've always thought a RIF's reliability and their (for want of a better term) 'lovability' can be somewhat judged by how many pop up in the ads... People don't ditch their favourite gat unless they're giving up the sport entirely, so why do they appear so often? Could some ex-owners shed some light on why they offloaded theirs?

Have I made a mistake? of buying this weapon?
RostokMcSpoons replied to Yashy's topic in General Discussion
Well, you can go as heavy as it can hop successfully (and your wallet allows, as they get pricey above 0.32g) You'll only really know that once you try it shooting out past 40m, and can test the different weights. Any half decent gun should be fine with 0.25g, a good one will do 0.28g. You'll probably need to upgrade the hop rubber / nub / hop unit to go beyond that. Yeah, as Cannonfodder and Dan say, 0.28g should be perfectly fine (I've gone through 10kg of Warhead 0.28g BBs and only felt the need to use 0.32s on one particularly windy day) -

His gun is doing 410fps? Unless it's locked to semi auto then it's too hot to use in a skirmish. He'll have to pull his gearbox apart to change to a lower power spring (not the most fun thing for a new Airsofter) Assuming yours is doing 300-350fps then you'll be playing and he won't! (And btw they both look like nice guns, you should both end up enjoying them) -
OUCH Good luck with the recovery! The Mk46 looks quite a beast, very impressive!

Just to follow up on this, my wishlist grows ever larger, and more cluttered... So my requests are (in priority order) 1. By choice or default, please allow filtering out (exclusion) of 'completed' ads 2. Add the wishlist option to the mobile view menu 3. Improve the look of the mobile view listing Cheers!

Looking for people to play with in NE London
RostokMcSpoons replied to calymd's topic in General Discussion
I could pick you up from Milton Keynes Central to take you to spec ops, but unfortunately I've knackered my foot playing football this week, so my expected trip on Sunday is off. A couple of week's time though... Give me a shout if you're interested! -

Indeed. And just to add more comedic value, the precise moment the video stopped playing, the postman stuffed envelopes through my letterbox. Yeah, you guessed it... the credit card bills -
This is true, but would you want Luke saying "oh my god another VFC AEG, arrgggghhh" to be shown forever more on YouTube ?
-
I'm an as-yet mostly innocent bystander in the HPA scenario, but given you're talking about a VFC HK416 as the shell, I'd say "go for it". You'll have a lovely solid externals, and none of those pesky VFC AEG internals. It should end up being a really nice gat (if a bit pricey!) (For context I have an a similar '416 GBBR, and I'm looking to buy an HPA adapter for it) And good news in the fact your playstyle would mean you could maybe run a small air tank instead of the standard bottle - saving a bit of weight on the webbing...? It's a thought - I'd let a 'proper' HPA'er confirm or deny that!

I bet it will run cooler on the 11.1v and thats important given how mine went -
Standards You have gone all "butcher's apostrophes" on us. We have to maintain our standards ?

Apart from the stock nut maybe needs a dab of thread lock, it's all good. I use (rightly or wrongly) a bit of silicon grease mixed with abbey silicone spray to make a light grease which I used on the bolt and charging handle. A bit of the spray on the trigger assembly, and that's it Enjoy!

You can adjust the power by twisting the screw inside the nozzle, you need a 1.5mm Allen key, anti clockwise for more power Run the heaviest BBs you can find / afford because you won't be shooting many of them... I ran 0.40s mostly but 0.32s are easier to buy Ultrair or Abbey Sniper Brut, minimal silicone content to keep the hop rubber dry I run a two point sling with a sling point on the top RIS rail and using the built in point on the rear of the receiver. The whole gun is built like a tank, you won't have any problems. The stock nut on mine likes to undo itself, that's the only thing that would give me pause about attaching the sling to it.

That's a shame, as the Brucie Bonus for this gun's mags seemed to be the fact that they're actually available (if rather expensive) I heard one of the MWS owners at my last skirmish complaining about the lack of mags - these seemed a way around that - but if they're not very good (at £65 each), then 'oops'

I play every couple of weeks because that's the cadence at Spec Ops... I tried another site nearby, it didn't go so well, so I've decided I'm best off sticking with what I know for the moment - and spending some of the savings on the usual consumables for the next one, and for back garden plinking (though even that's limited due to our house cat who would happily try to make a run for it when the patio door is open, and m'wife insisting our neighbours will hate the sound of my guns and will therefore cause armed police to descend upon us!) Unfortunately(?) I've missed a recent game for a spa trip, and I'm missing the next as I'll be traveling back from a holiday. The good news for me is that Carlos reckons the CQB site is on the cusp of opening, so I'll be able to get my 'fix' even if I miss a woodland game day. And there are actually some well-regarded sites nearby (around MK and Northampton) that I should have tried by now - with my job situation looking a bit happier, I might get to try 'em out soon. Where is it you live, @DanBow?

I have had another go at fettling my Tippmann sort-of-recently, and it's still not right. 1) The TDC hop is ... Yes. Proper. It's spinning right round like a record, baby. Not engaging with a thread to actually apply any downward pressure. Either the thread the hop screw has stripped, or it's gone walkies altogether... I'm sure it used to be fine, but it ain't now! Edit: Oh dear, I think I was being a noob. I just found a video explaining how the TDC hop works. I may have a loose grub screw preventing it from working properly. I'll go check! 2) The Rate Of Fire is a bit pants. It must be chugging along at 10-12rps or something. I've seen videos of Tippmanns ripping along very nicely at above 15rps. Maybe I need a different bolt or recoil spring to achieve that, but I suspect it's more the set up or a problem...? 3) Semi Auto doesn't work properly. If I have the full auto working, then the semi auto tends to occasionally spit out 2 or 3 BBs. If I turn the RoF down to the point that semi is reliable, then I basically end up with full auto also working as semi! I have already contacted Dave Sutton at Kore Outdoor UK, who I believe are the UK distributor for Tippmann parts? He suggested some lubrication which I did already... so looking for any other hints or tips!

There's usually not much teamwork at Spec Ops, so I either pair up with Dan, or one of the other regulars I know, who actually push the objective - and then provide them with spotting info / covering fire / try a suicidal rush to find the entrenched opponent. That keeps me happy that I'm trying to do something useful*. If there are no friends around I just often ask anybody wandering around spawn what they think is the best place to go... if they give a sensible answer I tag along with them, and provide covering fire or ask them to cover me as I advance (for the first move or two at least). I've seen people try to organise bigger squads with some more strategic teamwork (beyond the initial rush, which is of course very important). It usually doesn't last beyond the first sighting of a BB in mid-flight, sadly. * Either that I or I go on a long solo flanking run so I can bag a couple of easy-ish kills, and to find any blind spots in the defence.
