  1. Modifying something makes that item fall under the firearms act. You make it more powerful by increasing the joules power to go over the maximum legal limits, you're committing a firearms offence. The 2 years, can't remember if it was policing and crime act, VCRA, firearms act, public safety as some elements of the sport fall under HSE's guidance, controls and the laws at their disposal. Its why you have to have a minimum level of PPE to play. There is a whole raft of legislation that players do not seem aware of that controls the game or their actions in the following consequences for ignoring those legislative rules for public and personal safety. I have suggested a legitimate fix to get around the issue, all I am doing is highlighting things that could potentially bit you for failing to do the simpler and better route of replacing the tone parts on the RIF because a "REPAIR" is not technically a modification if the parts are damaged as I understand, replacement tone parts is hard to come across, I have only seen one site and that is in the USA. (no I don't have a bookmark for it)
  2. You either have "NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE" or you have "PRIOR KNOWLEDGE" of something. There is no in between, I did have to learn the hard way in court about arguing to win and found that law is a quagmire of apparent grey areas that really are not, you can't apply your interpretation of the law as you see fit because the law, is very carefully written in a way to be precise, to the matter of fact, outlining the boundaries of what is or is not legal and so on. Law only deals in facts that can be proven or demonstrated... There is plenty of case law that demonstrates the process of two parties, often an individual against an organisation, much like myself on all those cases I was in court with, having to cross examine people on their statements, etc. The devil is in the detail and if you can stand there and argue no prior knowledge, good luck to you as I doubt that you'd convince CPS or the Judge. Had I taken up the offer to go in to Magistrates training and this argument was brought before me, I know what ruling I would be making, mainly because it is prior knowledge. WHY do people want to play with fire? Why not just buy the mono tone (black.grey/tan or polka dot) that fits the RIF and then play safe and have done with it. Its gifted, the OP's old enough to legally own one, just swap out the parts to remove any doubt or possibility that you can be picked up, just astounds me that people will rather argue that someone is OK to do something when clearly there is a law at play here and the easiest option is to "PERFORM A REPAIR" by swapping out all that is two tone on it, have done with it as then the law would need to prove wrong doing before they could take action. Is that a better option or would you rather play a game of chance with the law. I know I would rather have my liberty than bricked up for up to 2 years.
  3. Up until you do something stupid and it then becomes a firearms offence... That can be as simple as a 1.3 Joule rifle having a larger power spring in it that pushes it over the 1.3 Joule maximum for semi and full auto, it is then classed as a firearm. Anyway, yes, toys is one way of describing them, I prefer to use SPORTS EQUIPMENT as that is essentially what airsoft is, an activity and interactive team sport, so your "Guns" are "Sporting Equipment" and a necessary piece of equipment for the sport. You know, "Sports equipment" sounds much nicer than "GUN". I consider a gun to be any air rifle of 11.9ft lbs or higher and powder rounds, literally anything that can achieve 16 or more Joules is in my book, a gun (rifle) I am pretty sure if you took your rif to a gun range and called it a gun, you would be laughed at and ridiculed and possibly kicked out. I know as one airgun club went ice cold on me for merely mentioning airsoft. for some reason in the shooting communities, airsoft is looked down upon because of the ease at which hardware is gotten hold of that idiots commit a crime with one and the shooting community suffer because of tighter controls. So understandable. So anyway... REMEMBER FOLKS... they are not RIF's or Guns or Rifles but "SPORTING EQUIPMENT" and that should get around the paypal issue in some countries. BTW, anyone with a heron problem... light em up with your rif, deter them from eating your entire fish stocks, they have been known to make off with kittens and puppies, plenty of videos on what they will attack and eat, so I have no love for Herons, aka egrits, nasty buggers, so the most humane way of moving them on is to left them have a taste of airsoft.
  4. Then they need to kook up their rights in the USA.
  5. If you live in the same house as someone, then you have prior knowledge, so if you try to claim otherwise and its been established that the item in question was present at a time the accused is in possession, trying to go for a "Didn't know" defence is not going to get you very far and courts look dimly on that as it is if you check. No, I am not CPS but I have had to represent myself in court 5 times already and won 4 and drew 1. Half my family are in the law business or doctors or professors in things like physics, geological sciences and lots of tech industries, so my head gets filled up with lots of information because if I am to hold conversation with family members, I have to talk to them in their language. I have also been around the block more than several times and rebuilt my life three times, I am a Taurus, like the colour blue and my bread is buttered right side up and like shooting, breathing and eating... In the one I drew on, the defence managed to confuse the judge that much that I had no hope of unravelling their twisted method of screwing up the facts. The judge had enough and just threw it out, so it was a draw with a "you're both square" but worked out in the end because I got 4 times the compensation payout.
  6. The law does not distinguish what happened in the past or present, the fact is that its a two tone gun that should have those two tone parts replaced with non-tone parts. People assuming that because something happened in the past, is exempt, is just not true... In this case, the fact that the receiver of the gift is in the same household would also negate any claims of no prior knowledge that it was previously a two tone.
  7. If this is in the UK then respraying the RIF from a two tone counts as a modification and its an offence in itself. You do not need to go through UKARA to get a RIF, if you read up, the item can be GIFTED to you. This is the loop hole that allows jerks to get hold of RIFs and then terrorise people with them, like the idiot pulled over and had a pistol in his glove box, a known criminal with a history of gun offences. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/36 Sub clause (c) he sells a realistic imitation firearm; or As well as https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/37 which covers the main points of RIF's
  8. Yes, great idea to have some. I do advise you look in your local tool shop as I found out after buying one from China for £15.95 that the local tool shop sold exactly the same thing for £9.99, so instead of waiting 3 weeks for it, I could have picked one up locally instantly...
  9. Its what spares are for. Sale of Goods Act KEY INFORMATION Your second-hand shopping rights Second-hand goods bought from online retailers are covered by the Consumer Contracts Regulations. If you buy second-hand goods from a retailer, you're also covered by the Consumer Rights Act. Buyer beware if you’re buying from a private seller - they don't have to draw attention to defects. Take note of the LAST BULLET POINT.... The same applies to buying at AUCTIONS and other forms of sites that you use bidding to purchase an item. The onus is on you to ask the right questions and also see the goods before you buy as then you have some comeback.
  10. Gravity, there is big debate on what it actually is even now in the scientific world. Something as big as the moon does effect the earth, the earth has a barrycenter much like the sun has from the gravitational effects of Jupiter. On the earth this translates to the tides that we see. Again my point that ballistics works no matter where you try it. In space, there is no resistance to an object that has energy imparted on it. So something travelling at 5 km/s is going to do a lot of damage or pass right through something. I am not getting my science wrong, there is nothing wrong with it, the issue is that people are picking fault where non exists and over complicating things based on what alternate examples I can provide so that finally the penny drops. As for the science, people's eyes generally glaze over, not my problem if people can't see the relationship. Tell me, how many feet per second would a projectile be travelling on exit of the muzzle if you only input 1 Joule of energy and your mass was 0.00002g ? would be the same as a fleck of paint and travel at nearly 22,000mph like here https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3587882/What-happens-tiny-fleck-paint-hits-space-station-Tim-Peake-reveals-crack-ISS-window-debris-collides-craft.html which was suggested to me when I searched fleck of paint mass to try and ball park some figures for this. And Einstein, as brilliant he was, some of his theories are now being challenged at the time and now as our understanding of the universe expands. As for my ballistics input, I am using the very same equations that are used in airsoft as in airgun as in live round as in launching a big eff off rocket in to space... If you think that rockets has nothing to do with ballistics, that s the same as denying that rocket grenade launchers AKA RPG's don't exist. Try adding something useful like a source of information for me to consider rather than an opinion. https://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/physics/kinetic.php?given_data=velocity&KE=1&KE_units=joule&m=0.00002&m_units=gram&v_units=foot+per+second&sf=0&given_data_last=velocity&action=solve 1 Joule of energy tiny mass... How many fps?
  11. AN AIRSOFT GUN... as long as it complies with the ENERGY OUTPUT of the Policing and Crime Act 2017 as of 2nd May 2017... As long as the equipment is below the maximums stated, ARE NOT controlled by the firearms act.... HOWEVER, IF upgrade and that power is greater than the legal stated power, you are committing a fire arms offence. To make a weapon in the UK you have to be a RFD or RFM. Register with the police and also complete their application, prove various things as well as show that you have a clear understanding of the fire arms act. The reason for that is that YOU make or prove or supply without a licence an item that is illegal, its a couple of years in the jug for you.
  12. I have yet to be able to find one in the shops as its all cosmetic smelly stuff... If you can get a deodorant that is the stick type... I have been told its very effective when applied around the goggles area of the eyes and face, that it is claimed to prevent fogging. Locally I can't find any non fragrance deodorants, its all smelly stuff.
  13. You are going to find that many sites won't allow strobes because of the odd player that has epilepsy. Much better to get the muzzle flash that you use with the BB's that glow. The flash only happens per trigger pull and most sites have rules on ROF, one site I know has a 3 shot rule, 2 count before repeat. Don't take epilepsy as trivial, it can be life threatening and people die from attacks. So do you really want a family pursuing you for damages?
  14. The law states... Police and Crime Act 2017 (5)After section 57 insert— “57AException for airsoft guns (1)An “airsoft gun” is not to be regarded as a firearm for the purposes of this Act. (2)An “airsoft gun” is a barrelled weapon of any description which— (a)is designed to discharge only a small plastic missile (whether or not it is also capable of discharging any other kind of missile), and (b)is not capable of discharging a missile (of any kind) with kinetic energy at the muzzle of the weapon that exceeds the permitted level. (3)“Small plastic missile” means a missile that— (a)is made wholly or partly from plastics, (b)is spherical, and (c)does not exceed 8 millimetres in diameter. (4)The permitted kinetic energy level is— (a)in the case of a weapon which is capable of discharging two or more missiles successively without repeated pressure on the trigger, 1.3 joules; (b)in any other case, 2.5 joules.”
  15. That is what "blot action" is, each projectile has to be loaded independently through the action of a bolt that cocks the rifle and loads the next projectile. You can use regular BB guns in airsoft as they are slide action to cock and load the spring per firing. As long as they chrono safe, you're good to go. Which is based on 2.5 Joules max. As a regular BB gun can start entry level at around 500 fps.
  16. It is illegal to even make. 36 Manufacture, import and sale of realistic imitation firearms (1)A person is guilty of an offence if— (a)he manufactures a realistic imitation firearm; (b)he modifies an imitation firearm so that it becomes a realistic imitation firearm; (c)he sells a realistic imitation firearm; or (d)he brings a realistic imitation firearm into Great Britain or causes one to be brought into Great Britain. Then the power... (4)The permitted kinetic energy level is— (a)in the case of a weapon which is capable of discharging two or more missiles successively without repeated pressure on the trigger, 1.3 joules; (b)in any other case, 2.5 joules.” And in any case, irrespective of after market user, the laws on power are clear, just being in possession of an illegal RIF (power) is an offence. FPS 382 = 1.36 Joules on 0.2g I figure any argument will have the +/- 10% thrown in which would mean that they are still illegal. To be sure that you are legal, your FPS on 0.2g should not exceed 356 / 357 fps, that allows for 10% over that 1.1840 Joules, +10% is 0.1184 + 1.184 = 1.298 Joules REMEMBER... ITS "JOULES" POWER that is measured by law, not the FPS. People also forget that all quoted powers are +/- 10%, which means while you want to up to max power, you do need to consider that you may well be producing an illegal weapon by swapping out components. ALSO another thing that leaps out the legislation is the particular and careful use of language. In short... UNLESS you are a REGISTERED FIREARMS MANUFACTURER and in order to do that, YOU ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO REGISTER... As an (RFD) Registered Firearms Dealer in order to be able to do it legally and also in compliance with the LOCAL LAWS. Meaning that it matters not what your client wants, as long as it leaves you with the proper settings, what the client doers thereafter is up to them and the risks they want to take with the laws. https://www.gov.uk/register-as-a-firearms-dealer 1.3 Joules for anything capable of full or semi auto 2.5 Joules for single bolt action jobs.
  17. Looking at the spec, its quoted as 440fps to 450fps with 0.2g bb's which means... its a 1.9 Joule rifle. Which means for a 0.4g bb, the most you are going to get is 311fps however, if you put in a more powerful spring, you up that energy to 2.5 joules, the maximum fps you are going to achieve is 519fps on 0.2g bb's It is not the FPS but the amount of JOULES as the law only recognises joules. (4)The permitted kinetic energy level is— (a)in the case of a weapon which is capable of discharging two or more missiles successively without repeated pressure on the trigger, 1.3 joules; (b)in any other case, 2.5 joules.” https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2017/3/section/125?view=plain 57A (4)(b) So keep that in mind.
  18. Yes, that should be good enough. Temperature controlled irons are much better as you can bering the melt temperature up to the point that you are heating the solder, wetting the joints and then creating a solid joint. Unregulated solder irons can cook off the flux too fast as part of the process of flux is to be heated to errode and clean the dirt and allow the solder joint to wet properly. I used to use an unregulated iron and it was the source of many a dry joint or improper wetting, they are fine for large parts that are going to sink a lot of heat and where joints are not PCB based or on thin wires.
  19. Also good to get is a set of thermal sinks for small parts that carry heat, you can get stainless and aluminium, they are like tweezers... with that, a set of insulated tweezers to help when soldering and one of these soldering iron tip cleaners is invaluable... Dip your tip in the rosin and then the cleaner and a nice clean tip....
  20. Bloke goes in to a pub. Orders a beer and sits quietly drinking it. After a while he starts feeling peckish and notices the bar snacks and food menu. So he goes up to the bar, asks for a menu off the bar maid who hands him a menu. After reading the menu, Cheese rolls £1, Ham Rolls £1.50, Cheese and ham roll £2, sausage rolls £1 and hand shandy's £5... So the guy calls the bar maid over and he asks her, "Are you the person that give out the hand shandy's" and she replied "Why yes, I am" fluttering her eyes at the guy... He replies "Good... Wash your hands I want a cheese roll..."
  21. Point again that Ballistics works in space... Shows that even in LEO that the pull of gravity can affect an object unless it is travleing with enough energy to carry it in to space. Again, some of these "Projectiles" are the size and weight of flecks of paint. In space a fleck of paint travelling at the speeds of a bullet in space carries enough momentum that if it hits something, can crack that thing, chip it or in some cases, pass straight through the hull of the ISS. Again, I draw attention to the fact that ballistics works any where and the denial by some that the same calculations for airsoft are the very same calculations used in daily science for calculating KE, even in air gun and live round shooting, archery and so on. It seems to be a lost fact on people.
  22. Lead free solder is a big problem, mainly because it produces poor joints and what is refereed to as dry joints. Here are some fluxes I use. Kalifornia - cleaning the tip of the iron. Made from real ROSIN... Pasta do Lutowania - which is a paste in a tin that is made out of the Kalifornia stuff WODA Lutownicza - for very difficult metals like the ali wires that chinesuim sellers palm the west off with... Topnik TK83 - great for any wire and PCB, the one I use most of. AG Kwas Lutowniczy - a silver based flux or flux for silver, I use this on difficult metals that WODA Lutownicza or Topnik TK83 doesn't work with. IN ALL CASES NOTE THAT THESE FLUXES REQUIRE SPECIAL HANDLING as they are all toxic and are corrosive and a couple are going to pose a serious respiratory problem as in lung damage, so you need to be in a well ventilated space with a fan blowing the fumes outdoors or under a soldering hood or a face mask with open ventillation. ALSO WEARING GLOVES as they are corrosive besides pretty toxic. Suggest that you also buy LEAD SOLDER, it is still available but be careful as many chinese sellers hook people with LEAD SOLDER when its actually the lead free stuff. What you need is the Sn60Pb40 mix for a good all rounder. Solder iron... what do you use? If its your common or garden variety type like you see in home depot or B&Q or similar, then you should buy yourself a temperature controlled one, I got one on eBay for £12 and goes up to 450 degrees Celsius. Many irons do not have great thermal dynamics and can be too hot and you risk cooking the board layers or a component or even unintentionally introducing too much heat and some SMD's may have "Floated" from their posts and now produce a short or bad signal. Temperature control is as important as soldering technique. Good luck sorting it out...
  23. Russians go do something stupid Excellent example of a high velocity impact by a tiny projectile in a vacuum travelling at speeds I understand are 20 times the speed of a bullet... Fast Forward to 9:15.
