  1. Eh. Sites, like politicians, tend to talk a great game. If they actually acted on it then the tiny minority of throbbers who ruin it for everyone wouldn't last long in the hobby. This is actually a fair point. Nicotine and caffeine are awful drugs, they'd be banned now if so many influential people weren't already hooked. This isn't a joke (although addicts will laugh it off), they're both debilitating, mood altering, and highly physiologically addictive. They're treated differently to cake in part because we can take them in small, controlled doses, without stigma or (generally) without bingeing too much. If Woka-Cola started putting small amounts of cocaine back into their bottled diabetes, it would be no worse than caffeine, and less harmful than the sugar. OK, I'll bite on the original bait. I wouldn't actually have much of an issue in principle with someone airsofting on a bit of recreational THC. I'd actually prefer it to a speedyboi rushing around off his tits on sugar, taurine and caffeine and seeing things like he's in the Matrix. However, in practice, you don't know what they're smoking, its strength, how much they're binging, whether they think the squirrels are spying on them, or if they've got the full blown... I've mentioned before that there seems to be a lot of people who turn up to airsoft sites for reasons other than actually playing airsoft. Me, I'm there to sling balls, and if I had one airsoft wish, it would be for all sites to be run by people who will actively facilitate that, and nip everything else in the bud, pun intended.
  2. Agreed, and we'll always be a tenant of last resort. The 2nd time Hammer II Operations got kicked off, I heard apocryphally that it was down to one home-owner on the edge of the nearest estate complaining to the council that they could just barely hear pyro going off, and the land owner said "Not worth the hassle."
  3. Given your intro to this forum, I think you're just fishing for attention. Congratulations, you win a prize.
  4. I'm thinking of a couple of local sites which sunk vast amounts of time and money into developing themselves, then got kicked out without any warning or negotiation. One then relocated, built up a new site... then got kicked out again a year later. I really feel for site operators, they're at the mercy of land owners.
  5. No, there are loads of idiots like that. LARP as you like, it's all good. I have had issues with people in plate carriers genuinely not feeling hits though, I wouldn't encourage them.
  6. Probably huffing the solvents he used to strip the paint and wreck the plastic. I mean, the Galaxies are decent enough, and great fun, but you can forget "laser lines" because the hop unit is the weak point. An r-hop won't magically fix that. The motor would be a welcome upgrade, but I'd rather put one in a pristine example rather than that melted mess. Can't fault his sales patter though.
  7. Nobody? Really? Nobody? OK, I'll get it, although it gives me little pleasure. And on topic.
  8. I really hope they've got a solid long term contract for the site.
  9. I am prompted to note that pleasuring yourself is fine, but rocking up in forums and demanding attention is tawdry.
  10. Are they still operating the genius strategy of not telling you that until right at the end of the order process?
  11. Ahoy and welcome back to the money-sink.
  12. Word. I'd just note that at this point your only real concern isn't possession of a RIF or how you got it, but possession in public. Firearms Act 1968 section 19 makes it an offence to possess any imitation firearm (realistic or otherwise) in public, without a reasonable excuse, the proof whereof lies with us. In other words, only have it with you when you're on your way to an insured airsoft skirmish site, ideally with pre-booking, and have the site details to hand. Other than that, you're golden. Or, black.
  13. I do have to flag up "Not played yet, want GBBR" as a potential way to see another couple of GBBRs appear in the classifieds. We usually recommend AEG -> gas pistol -> GBBR / HPA in about that order as you start sinking your kids' inheritance into this hobby. Find out if you like it first playing in easy mode before switching to hard mode or buying premium gear.
  14. Inspiring stuff. The couple of filmsims that I've managed to get to have been far more involving and enjoyable than a typical skirmish day, even if they involve less shooting. Granted, they are a lot more work for the organisers compared to the usual day of "Reds... no, blues.... wait, who attacked last time?"
  15. From the look of the table, he maybe has delusions of being a purfessnul teknishun, and thinks he's actually adding value by meddling with it.
  16. That's true, and I agree that they're the cheapest AEGs that are actually competitive in both CQB and woodland, and with a battery and charger included. It's just that for a bit more you're into Lancer Tacticals and Specna Arms Cores, with rotary hops, quick change springs, better wiring, all the good stuff. Granted, you need to buy batteries and a charger for them, but you'll want to upgrade the CYMA ones anyway. But no argument, if your budget is under £100, CYMAs will get you out there and playing.
  17. Eh. They're robust, put BBs downrange, and the air seal can actually be got spot on even with the stock components, a bit of stretching and some lube. But the hop unit, rubber, barrel, and motor are all just about adequate, and can do with being swapped out, and the plastic is very toyish. I'd say OK, fine even, a decent way to start on a budget, but "great" is a stretch.
  18. I'm perfectly happy with a 455mm x "6.01mm" AOLS in a DMR. In conjunction with a full cylinder, it also lets me get >1.8J out of a slightly cut down M130 spring rather than anything more gearbox-stressing.
  19. Mmm, I only went for the AOLS because the ZCIs were out of stock, but I can't fault it. They do indeed come well oiled inside, is the only thing I'd note.
  20. What is it you need? 229mm? There's an AOLS in stock in that length, and I'm happy enough with the AOLS 455mm in my DMR, paired with a Maple Leaf Macaron. The bridge at the end is 1.3mm wide.
  21. Hmm, that does seem pretty thicc. Just grabbing what's nearest, I'm measuring a ZCI correction an AOLS 6.01mmx455mm at 1.3mm and (I think) a stock CYMA barrel at 1.5mm. I'm actually surprised that they're so different from each other, let alone from yours, I'd never thought to measure them before. Both of them take a Maple Leaf Macaron without issues, and I can see why you'd be having a problem with a 2mm thick bridge.
  22. "Buy a TM recoil because it's got the best parts, then replace them all with bester parts." has a familiar ring to it. Where have I heard that before? ?
  23. True that, 0.28g is the minimum that I use in woodland now. And keep your expectations realistic: no amount of money, or belief, will prevent your BBs being effected by wind, rain, or foliage, and nor will they make your targets just sit still and wait for them. I'm perfectly happy and competitive with AEG toys in the £75-£140 range, plus the aforementioned hop rubbers and barrels. Aftermarket motors add snappiness and rate of fire. After that it's about BBs, getting the hop dialled in, and where you point it. If I were going to spend £500 on an airsoft toy, and the goal was maximum accuracy, i.e. maximum consistency, I'd forget about AEGs and think about trying-then-buying a used HPA package.
