No, all I've done is take pictures of the serial numbers on my belt-full of BFGs. Even at that, I think it's vastly unlikely that I'd be lucky enough to catch a pikey who's pocketed one, given that sites seem to - at most - just shrug and say "Oh dear, we'll make an announcement at the next briefing". I've yet to see or hear of one locking the place down and frisking folk, which is what it would take. And from a liability and duty of care point of view, they're smarter to not get involved. I guess this gets back to my Default Rant #3, that airsoft is a delicious punch bowl spoiled by a very few turds bobbing around in it. If sites were a bit more proactive about punting wrong-uns right out of the hobby, it would be better for us and for them.

Has anyone put tracer LEDs in a grenade launcher tube?
Rogerborg replied to paradoxum's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
What a stupid, pointless idea. Of course, I love it. Airtac UK has been working on a shotgun tracer, so it's not that outré. https://www.airtac.me/product-page/shotgun-tracer Caveat, when I've done hop-up tracer units, they've always been rather disappointing, even when I've bought the most lumeny "UV" LEDs that eBay can provide (for pennies each). I'm not sure what you'd have to do to ensure that you get ones that are really UV and bright enough to charge up BBs in a fraction of a second. -
Mine's half way through transitioning into a laspistol... and has been for ages. I mean, they work, and they work consistently, but I find it's more fun to BLAM-BLAM-BLAM and miss with a GBB than to sput once and hit with an AEP.

I can't figure out the threshold. The chap I saw on Facebook (which I can't find now, because Facebook) was flogging stuff in the tens of pounds, which surprised me. I'm guessing that if you get too many (or any) contested payments or chargebacks then they might put you on the guilty-until-proven-innocent list. Despite my habit of slamming in immediate but honest disputes/chargebacks at the first opportunity when a bad seller messes up, I do have a lot of sympathy with the good ones who get unlucky enough to be screwed over by a rogue buyer. Then again, a seller could send a tracked postcard saying "Whistle for your item" and might win the case. I hanker for the days when a fellow's word was his bond.

Beware If Buying From Novritch Now If You Live in UK
Rogerborg replied to Nuttycapri's topic in Places to Buy
"Civil" "Service" though, but point taken, they'll have their targets just like any other low level footpads. -
Site BBs in your mag, 0.3g or higher - I'd actually say 0.4g+ these days. If a site can't afford that, they've got bigger problems. And to veer dangerously close to getting back on topic, using a single weight of site BBs also allows dinosaurs to keep thinking in fps, as they'll only have three numbers to deal with: AEG, DMR, sniper. It just shouldn't be 0.2g BBs, and 350 / 400-something / 500, for the obvious reason that these numbers and energy levels won't represent what will actually be produced on the field when everyone switches to 0.28g - 0.46g BBs. There are exceptions, like CQB sites which only allow up to (e.g.) 0.25g, when the Joule creep over 0.2g isn't likely to be massive. But for woodland, in general, quoting in 0.2g fps figures is risibly old fashioned. Because at the end of the day (well, at the start of it), they don't really mean (e.g.) 350fps, they mean (e.g.) 1.13J, and all of their numbers for other BB masses are derived by converting 350fps x 0.2g to Joules, and then back again. So why not skip the pointless first step, and just specify and think in terms of Joules in the first place?
-
If you're not going to do it thoroughly, with an assumption that everybody is trying to avoid or cheat the chrono, then why bother at all? I really mean this. If you assume that everybody is honest, then a chrono is only there so that we can self-check. If you assume that there's even one problem person out there, then finding and catching them requires more than a cursory, easily skipped, and half hearted process. I'd far, far rather that sites did a lot more in-game chronoing with their own 0.3g+ BBs, punted guns back to the safe zone if they're a little over, and players off the site if they're well over. Anything else is just theatre. </rant number two>

That. It doesn't matter why you did it, it doesn't matter if you enjoyed it, if doesn't even matter if you copped out half way through and now you feel bad, man, because feelings don't alter reality. All that matters is that you did something, anything at all. Right, lunchtime cycle time.

Chargeback, no delay, no debate. We're far too passive about those sort of shenanigans.

Joules, every time. It's not the 1990s, and nobody (apart from indoor CQB) is using 0.2g any more. I've heard the argument that fps is easier to understand because it's one big round number, but that's self-delusional reactionary geezerism. Sure, saying "350fps" is simple, but it's not helpful when it's not going to apply to the majority of players, and they need to translate into Joules, then back to fps for their BB weight. Even worse is sites saying "Oh, everybody knows what we mean", when that's demonstrably not the case. I've seen multiple people on Failbook saying "Yeah, I'm shooting .32g at 330, that's fine, right? Under 350, yeah?" Anyone who has a chrono at home can set it to Joules and their BB weight, end of argument. Anyone who doesn't, well, they don't matter to the argument, because what are they going to do with the information? Look at retailer clamed fps? Those are (at best) results for one example, not the one that you'll receive, and when sites start to specify in Joules, and chrono with site 0.3g+ BBs, then retailers will eventually follow along. </rant>

CYMA CM.127 or CM.127S. The S model has a lipo battery and a mosfet, which should give it a snappier response. Relatively speaking. I've sunk plenty of time and money into my CM.123 (same internals as the Glocks) and it's still very disappointing to use. Low power, not a great hop unit, and poor trigger response compared to a GBB even with a big 7.4V lipo and fatter wiring. Oh, fatter, that too. They are big, bulky things, and the proportions are wrong, as they grips need to be thicc to hold the motor, gears, cylinder, and magazine. Mine likes to drop magazines, and it's not the only one I've heard doing it. The extended 80 (ish) round mags stay in better. And the fun factor is very low. No blowback, a squishy trigger, and the poorish response makes the smiles-per-pound pretty low. I'd suggest skipping them entirely and going for a gas blowback pistol (e.g. TM or Army Armament R17), or if you want small and electric, an MP5K.

Possible answer to the Afghan army question .
Rogerborg replied to Druid799's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Heck, I'm hearing that half of them didn't even have ammunition, and that swiping gear in lieu of pay was seen as normal. And given their courageous ex-president was Tweeting "Never give up, never surrender!" while his private jet was taking off, why on earth would the poor bastards on the ground choose to stand there and shout "Bang!" ? Then factor in that loyalties run: family -> tribe -> sect -> islam in about that order, with "nation" not appearing in the list at all. -
I've seen this a couple of times, I think it's becoming normal for them. One chap doing 3D printing as a business was saying on Facebook that he'd just stopped accepting PayPal now because this was happening to most of his transactions, none of his customers were bothering to confirm delivery, and it then takes ages for the funds to clear. Think about it from PayPal's point of view. Buyer protection leaves them out of pocket every time a rogue seller bilks some rube and then vanishes with the money. It won't take too many of those in the £100+ range for them to adopt this escrow situation as the default for any significant transaction. And to be fair, your part of the contract is only complete when the promised goods are safely in the hands of the buyer, and not a second before. From a buyer's point of view, this is how it should work. Sucks to be a seller though.

what your think best experience on airsoft?
Rogerborg replied to Cynthia's topic in General Discussion
Definitely CQB days, they're more intense and there are more memorable moments. The funniest day was fumbling a BFG and TKing myself and @Musica Then getting mediced back and repeating the exact same process again. -
And that's how you get a Careful Now rating.

Beware If Buying From Novritch Now If You Live in UK
Rogerborg replied to Nuttycapri's topic in Places to Buy
Mmm, good to hear. I wonder if HMRC are just assuming that anything under the threshold that should have had VAT and duty paid at the point of sale has had it done, and they're only going for the big ticket shipments. -
If you're using them on PMR channels then there is essentially zero chance of anyone who matters being bothered by it. Stick to PMR channels and it's like doing 100 on a racetrack. The problem is if you go off of those, then you might find yourself doing 100 past a school for blind orphans.
-
That does sound like a lot, but the question is, what's it's shooting at with the hop dialled info for the weight of BB that you're using?
-
Sure, that's all a DMR really needs. Beyond that, it's what you want to do to it, e.g. gears, motor, hop unit (ZCI plastic rotary FTW), hop rubber and barrel. Pre-cock and all that jazz would be nice, but at some point fiddling around with the gearbox and electrical parts of it is going to lead you to think "why not just HPA?" If your budget is over £200, then how about the CYMA CM.098A? I know you want to use your M4 mags, but again given current stocking you might find that it's actually easier to get AR-10 mags. Worst case, high-caps do work just fine, and its not like you'd need to buy mid caps.
-
I'm happy enough with the SA-02 Edge that I got this year. Decent enough alloy externals, a good hop unit, nice wiring, the internals of the gearbox seem fine without the rough finish reported in the previous iteration. The air seal wasn't perfect, but good enough. The quick change spring is actually fairly quick, you go in up the buffer tube with no need to take the gearbox out. Wired to Deans, which is always nice. Just a basic X-ASR mosfet, but that gives the potential to swap in a Warfet for trick shots. The stock motor isn't amazing, but then what is? I didn't try it with the stock barrel, but it's heavy brass and I couldn't see any obvious issues with it. The worst part was the moulding and security of the plastic M933 style Fudd handguard, but that won't be an issue for you.
-
Not needed, it's just a matter of filing a tiny piece out of the selector plate. I recently went with a Specna Arms Edge because of the number of things that I didn't have to replace, but I wouldn't necessary recommend it as the Orion gearboxes (despite being factory radiused) are picking up quite the reputation for breaking. Still, if you're prepared to gamble, there's a lot of features in there for the money. I'd suggest taking a look at CYMAs, which have pretty tough internals, although the reason I avoided them is that they don't tend to come with both metal bodies and quick change springs until you get to the £200+ Platinum series. The thing is, stock of everything is quite low so you're limited to what's available.
-
That, really. Just initiate whatever chargeback process you have available to you, whether that's PayPal, or a credit or debit card. Bank transfer, or PayPal friends and family, is always, always a scam. Looks like this sale:

And technically things like Pulse Rifles and the APS UAR. Heck, even the AAP-01 isn't a realistic imitation of a real modern firearm, and yes, that's the criteria under the VRCA, and yes, I know the Firearms Act is different. The big risk is that airsoft is only a defence due to the anonymous Home Office explanatory circular accompanying the 2007 amendment, it's not actually in the legislation, and it could be removed on a whim without even Ministerial involvement, warning, or consultation.
-
Welcome, and hmmm. The problem with sniper rifles is that they're literally hit or miss, and as stock, mostly miss. It can be a very frustrating experience playing with one that's not at peak performance. As far as I'm aware, none of the L96s are particularly usable as stock, so you'd be looking at putting in time and money to sort one out - or buy a pre-sorted, used one that you can personally test "shoots like a laser" (which is what every owner claims ). Always worth asking around at your local site, although doing so on Facebook can be a bit tricky given the Zuckerborg's attitude to anything assault-toy related. On budget pistols, I would point at the AAP-01 as the best performance for money, but it's not modelled on any particular gun. If you're doing an impression kit and want a mock-Glock, I'd suggest the Army Armament R17 as being surprisingly decent for the money: I use one as a CQB primary without issues. The current versions don't have Glock trademarks though. Brands to avoid like the plague are Nuprol (who just reband the cheapest random tat they can find) and Raven (which is a Nuprol rebrand!).
