ibo7 Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I want to make or buy targets that can work for airsoft and airguns and want some inspiration. So show off your garden setup and let us all see them!
Cannonfodder Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I just draw a rough circle on a cardboard box and prop it up on a plastic garden chair. Imo there's no point in buying anything fancy if I'm just going to shoot holes in it Tackle, Lozart and ibo7 3
Moderators Tackle Posted May 5 Moderators Posted May 5 As the man above said, if its for shooting at, whatever takes your fancy that you don't mind getting damaged. I'd be more interested in what your planning on using as a backstop, what's behind your garden that needs to be considered if any shots go wide of the target (or through it ??), especially in regards to airguns. PS I find jam jar lids suspended on a line by clothes pegs make effective targets for airsoft, get a nice "ding" when you hit them. ibo7 and ButcherBill 2

I've shot air pistols in the garden without issue, I just fancy a proper setup with targets and wanted some inspiration. Tackle 1
bigM Posted May 6 Posted May 6 I have some offcuts of carpet that i paint with fluoro/glow in the dark paint, and a UV floodlight. with tracer BBs it is quite fun. The carpet lasts a little while too.. ibo7 1
heroshark Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Paint can lids are my favourite. Make a mess but you know when you hit them. ibo7 1
Colin Allen Posted May 6 Posted May 6 I have employed some former Conservative MPs to run around the garden while I shoot them; however, they seem to find it rather too enjoyable. ibo7 and Holly Wallace 1 1
Rory Posted May 7 Posted May 7 (edited) I like a wee garage pop when time allows. I get a robust cardboard box from the local supermarket and hang a bean tin lid from an old bit of wire. Can sometimes be a pain to maintain it "face on" if you use string but cheap and effective Edited May 7 by Rory ibo7, Tackle, Gunny and 1 other 4
Tommikka Posted May 7 Posted May 7 @Roryhas granted me the shoe in to think ‘outside the box’ The key thing is of course to have a safe environment, not break the law (proximity to footpaths and roads) and not annoy neighbours If you want a fairly simple target then setup some simple targets to hit, add something ‘reactive’ such as metal that will pint (as per Rory’s can lid) or a soft thing such as paper that will show your hits A novel option (which can work for airguns but may not work properly for airsoft) is to put paintballs on golf tees For an airgun a good centre hit will burst the paintball, a glancing blow or whizz past might knock or blow it off For airsoft I suspect a BB at any decent range may just knock down a paintball unless you had a good fresh tournament grade paintball But that does give a small target to try out your accuracy & your RIFs consistency If you’re a student or road worker then put some cones out However - be aware that hits will bounce away in various directions, so limited in where it would be suitable for garden targets Cones are great for an easily relocatable but solid target of varying size (not just that cones come in all sizes but you can aim for an easy shot at the lower wider bottom of the cone and work up to the slimmer top of the cone. You can also pop a can on top or a stick through the cone holding up another target If you have a few cones then space them around at various distances and practice switching target Remember again that if you’re switching target then your hard backstop needs to cover the wider range of potential misses Rory and ibo7 1 1
Cooperman26 Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I was going to start a new thread regarding home made targets, but I found this! My crude outdoor target box. Bed slates, paddling pool, thin foam insulation and a lot of screws, pins and tacks. Very crudely put together. Top slates are removable, stripped a thick paddling into strips and tacked along each slate. Some thin foam insulation at the back of the box. Doesn't look pretty, but I works! Lyndication Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Can I post the pics of the rentals at my local site in here? Little Timmies are ideal target practice, you gotta learn to lead 'em. ibo7 1
