38super
Does anyone have a preferred way to get hold of OEM parts to replace broken ones? Upgrade parts are everywhere but OEM parts seem harder to find. In the real steel world I would ring my local dealer who would contact the importer. Common parts would be in stock or they would order them from the manufacturer which would take a week or three. Does airsoft work the same way? I've seen very few references anywhere to people replacing broken parts. Are there any good sources for OEM spares? Related to this, the most helpful thing for ordering spares is a parts diagram which seems to be included in the manual. Is there a good source for downloading manuals? BigStew
For what manufacturer? Your best bet for OEM parts will be Asia retailers.
Skara
29 minutes ago, 38super said: Does airsoft work the same way? Mhm, usually no. When parts break people generally use aftermarket parts, unless the broken bit is proprietary, in that case you're in for a whole lot of pain because certain brands/parts are absolutely impossible to find or are so expensive that it turns out cheaper to just buy a whole new gun instead. 29 minutes ago, 38super said: Are there any good sources for OEM spares? Your best bet would be to look at retailers boneyard sections, you might find an almost complete gun at a real bargain price to source spares from. 29 minutes ago, 38super said: Is there a good source for downloading manuals? In theory a manual with an exploded diagram should be included with the gun, failing that it's always worth to send the OEM a mail asking for the diagram of your gun (listing model, year blah blah blah all the boring details). Some manufacturers are pretty well supported in the UK - for example ICS with Fire-Support. There are a lot of TM spares and upgrades also knocking around with specialist retailers such as Eagle6. You can approach G&G directly for obscure parts, I've heard they will deal direct with customers when they have no joy with local distributors. Chinasoft guns however are a bit trickier and most of the time you will need to look abroad for proprietary parts that cannot be replaced with generic upgrade items. Otherwise, you will have to lookout for other dead guns that you can buy cheap and raid the parts from.
38super
Thanks for the info. I'd got the impression from what I've read that it was a case of bodge until scrapped but I wasn't sure. Specifically I'd be looking for Cyma frame parts in this case but generally just wondering how much used guns are repairable.

So forum sales section eBay ever so often or Google might get you a hit.

It would have to be a special request through one of their HK resellers. You can always try to contact CYMA directly via their website however they aren't the most accommodating. Anytime I've asked to buy spare parts I have to buy a whole container load. So any parts like the pistons I have to order through a 3rd party, pushes up the price. 38super
Yep. I saw that thread. I don't think it was out of spec. The one the chap was sent is for the clamshell type receiver in two halves ( like my GSG5 ). The type he needed was for the once piece receiver. I doubt very much if there was any difference in overall dimensions but you may need to match the lever and actuator. What I don't know is which of the Cyma MP5's is the clamshell receiver (I suspect the metal one) or maybe the blowback version. There seems to be quite a bit of cross compatibility with the MP5's but I don't have the experience yet. I've noticed that the lower hole in the MP5K front sight is threaded and I'd love to find out if the fake suppressor on my GSG5 will fit. 1 hour ago, ak2m4 said: I just had a look through the CYMA spare parts catalog and it's not listed. Upgrade parts seem very easy to get but not OEM parts. Kind of implies the guns are meant to be disposable if you break them. That does strengthen the argument of buying a more robust gun in the first place.
lukeB
I broke the same part on my CA B&T mp5, had to wait months for firesupport to get an ICS one in stock. It's always worth setting up stock alerts for out of stock parts, as it may push the retailer to get more stock in if they see a demand. Proprietary parts has always been why I typically own the 'common' guns, although it's easy to end up with a cupboard full of m4's if you're not careful. Are the CA MP5 & ICS essentially the same then? and the JG. They all look so similar you have to look really carefully to see any difference.
