Ok so I've brought myself a 417 in the end but my freinds 7.4v battery will hadly blow air out and neither will a 8.4 the manual says to use a 9.6 but will I get the best performance of that or a 11.1 lipo!

Also does anyone know where I can get mags cheap as I've only found them at jd airsoft for 30£

Finally what mag pouches!

Thanks for helping joe

You should be ok with a 9.6

11.1v tend to be a little OP in my opinion and can result in an eaten up internals.

as for Mags try Zero One, does it not take standard M4 mags ?

I recommend a 9.9v LiFePO battery. It is between a 9.6v nihm and an 11.1v Lipo, I use them and they're brilliant.

As for mags and pouches, if you want them cheap, taiwangun.

What make 417 did you get in the end? Umarex (VFC)? Be very careful running an 11.1, it's just gonna destroy the gearbox, when you say a 7.4 lipo isn't giving any air, but an 11.1 is that doesn't make sense, the piston is being pulled all the way to the back of its stroke regardless of the battery, battery difference will change ROF and trigger response, not the amount of pressure created by the cylinder/piston

The mags unfortunately are proprietary, there's no way around it, and the umarex work best with the proper mags, they fit in most 7.62 mag pouches but some can be a squeeze, WAS and flyye tend to very tight to start with

+1 Spatch - battery voltage does not affect shot power. If it doesn't fire well now, there is something wrong with it. At this stage, don't bother messing with it yourself, send it back and have the retailer sort it out.

The mags ought to fit upside down in this type of 7.62mm x 51 mag pouch:

...which are available in loads of colours these days.

Give the barrel a really good clean bud and put a drop of gun oil, not silicone oil as the rubber will swell, into the hop unit, turn the gun upside down a literally put a drop into the BB feed tube, you don't know how long the gun has been sitting so the rubber may be a little hard and needs bedding in, don't open the gun up as it's new, if the manual says a 9.6 nimh then a 7.4 lipo should be man enough if it's a good one with decent discharge (25c)

OK thanks also were would i get gun oil from? and can anyoe help me with getting to the rubber as m a tech noob kinda (never opened a gun before) also ive been told to check the serial number and am unsure as to weather this is the numbers above the fire selector or somewhere else

Gun oil can be got from any shooting/country type shop, you don't need to open the gun up and I wouldn't recommend opening it in case it does have a problem and you need to return it to the retailer, once you open the gun you will void the warranty in 99% of cases! give the barrel a proper clean as I said and the oil just needs a drop into the hop, look into the magwell from underneath and you'll see where the bottom of the hop is

Check the position of the hop up control because it may be at full on. Try turning it all the way opposite.

As already posted increasing the voltage just increases the rate of fire. If the mechanism is cycling it will shoot at the same power whatever the battery.

There is a problem elsewhere if you think it is down on power.

Is it a mid cap mag then, or hicap?

It is very possible for the feed tube, which is the lower part of a hop unit and carries BB's up from the mag, to be out of place, but this would indicate that the hop unit was not fitted correctly and/or busted terminally.

Did you check the position of the hop control?

No what I'm thinking is the simplest problem with hop units - that it is turned full on so the BB's can hardly fit through.

Oh yeah, and re the mag follower, when the mag is empty, does the plastic follower press right up into the port where the BB's are held back by the sliding spring catch? Because if it does, there's nothing wrong with it. But I don't see how it could affect the power of shots anyway.

Yeah it might help.

Landwarriorairsoft have newly got blue force gear ten speed 417 mag pouches up but they are like 30 quid

That is not a bad price considering that product trades in at £26.40, if you bear in mind that most retailers would either go trade times anything from 1.30-1.85 or 100% markup.
