NAE13 Squad Colours

  1. 1. Which faction do you think an AF_UK squad should join?

    • Bravo - a collection of mercenaries and renegades.
    • Delta - the elite, organised troops.
    • The Others - whose idea of fun is causing as much death and disruption as possible!

Its Joe mate, and aye ill send off a PM in a min, cheers Ian! :D Also I'm right in thinking you're all going to be the Others too? Hopefully should see you around some of the objectives/respawn points then, if not there's always the bar afterwards (I'm just sayin'... ;) )

Yeah Joe we're going to be Others too. I don't see any reason why we can't operate as a squad including your mates. Including Neil (darnage) & Co. we might have enough for an understrength platoon. That'll give us a range of tactical options that ought to make us more successful, such as a 3 section attack:

  • establish rally point for survivors to meet at and regen'd players to return to if it all goes tits up
  • advance to stand by positions
  • 1 ambush section: advances furthest forward and widest around one enemy flank, trying to remain unseen, to find a position from which they can fire from cover
  • 2 enfilade section: advance wide on the opposite flank, in prep for a full flanking maneuver, trying to remain undetected
  • 3 security section: the frontal feint attack and long range base of fire
  • no firing until all three sections in stand by position, unless we get attacked unexpectedly

3_sct_i_Advance.jpg

  • "Go go go!"
  • 3 sct open fire
  • 2 sct advance to flanking position and close with enemy
  • 1 sct remain hidden until either enemy tries to retreat while using cover, but with exposed rear/flank to ambush, or 2 section's flanking maneuver gets bogged down in which case 1 section become a secondary flank attack

3_sct_ii_Attack.jpg

3_sct_iii_Success.jpg

3_sct_iv_Contingency_A.jpg

  • if either flank advance gets spotted and enemy fire prevents that section from achieving stand by position, that section becomes 3, the security & base of fire section; the other flanking section must advance wider and further, becoming the ambush section 1; Original 3 Section become 2, the flank attackers, and must use new 3's fire as cover to close with the enemy.

3_sct_v_Contingency_B.jpg3_sct_vi_Contingency_C.jpg

  • radios must be used to coordinate the actions of each section
  • If both flanking sections get stopped by enemy fire, this plan must be abandoned in favour of a broad front, with players acting in pairs: 1 fires, the other moves and vice versa.

I feel sad for you Ian, that you went to all that trouble to explain something that will, in all likelihood, fall to pieces and fail to work haha.

I like the idea though, but it might be better tested at a Tier 1 event or a MilSim at the very least.

Oh yeah, trying to get airsofters to adopt a plan and stick to it is worse than herding cats - maybe herding platypuses is more like it!

Still, just imagine if we did have a bash at this kind of thing against other run of the mill airsofters...? We'd fcuking wipe the floor with 'em!

No need to feel sorry for me for that time probably wasted - feel sorry for me because I didn't get to Skirmish until 10:50am yesterday and by 15:10 I was so fcuked I had to sit the last 2 games out, but even now though I've guzzled as much tramadol as my internal organs can stand without risking putting me back in hospital, I'm in so much pain whenever I move that I pretty much can't do anything but lie in bed keeping still. Time drawing diagrams of something I worked out from incomplete and/or inaccurate, relationship/character driven film dramas helps keep me from wailing in frustration...

Sounds good, although yeah with the whole cats/platypuses that's easier said then done...

Last year me and 2 mates managed to flank right round from Firebase Charlie (we were on Delta last year) to Bravos base up in Camp Coursey (for any of you with maps still on you) and attack it from the north. Got wiped out pretty quickly once they realised though.

Tbh im pretty much up for anything, and we plan on bringing enough with me to last a full day out there as well (bbs/gas/water/lunch etc), get my moneys worth ;)

Me too - and yeah I'm bringing flameless ration heaters, mre's, brew kit, etc so i could bring a whole day's worth into the field. I'll have to work out if I can carry the weight along with 9 locap + 1 hicap mags & bottle of Bb's, or whether I need to use a higher ratio of hicaps, or ditch something else.

Will anyone be bringing a chrono with them?

The one I have is apparently no longer calibrated.

Tested L96 on Friday, FPS = 470-480. Went to game on Sunday, FPS = 415, on the site's chrono (same make/model as mine). Just tested it again on my chrono, FPS = 470-480.

Also, anyone by any chance know if you can fix/re-calibrate an XCortech X3200 chrono?

Not me, Liam. I intended to get one, but it didn't work out and time got eaten up by PayPal hanging on to my refund money, so it became too late :(

I've just put together an SVD with Madbull 6.01 x 590mm barrel, advanced hop, gucci grease and O-Ring, and the stock spring, so I'm a little concerned that it might be just over 500 - it certainly seems to fire 0.3g BB's fcuking far enough!

Can't help with fixing 'em either I'm afraid, so I hope someone else is bringing a working chrono.

So yeah, brilliant weekend! Next year, everyone else is joining me and Arden on Delta, yeah?

No Liam. No.

Others or nothing. Being a nob with my new AK was far too much fun. I'd forgotten how much fun it was to run around with hi-caps not giving a shit about anything and carrying next to no added weight whatsoever.

Though after seeing Geoff's WE L85, I'm totally getting one at some point.

Edit:

Considering I took this with my iPhone 3GS camera, it looks epic. I'm an artistic photography boss.

You can run around being a nob on Delta too. It's not like we were actually an organised team. The team descriptions don't seem to mean anything.

I know, but it's not the same if you're not on the rebel team. There are too many people trying to take it too seriously on the other teams.

That AK is f*cking sweet, how much and where from?!

It was only £145 from Z1, it's full metal and has blowback and everything. Performs amazingly well out of the box as well, it's essentially the AK combat machine in a metal body. Can't believe how good it is for the price.

I was actually only going to buy it for the day, and then sell it afterwards, but I got so attached to it that I've sold my MP5 to a mate instead to cover the cost of it.

Gonna keep it as a work horse for when my kit gets too heavy, just run about being a nob with high caps lol, thinking of modernising it a bit with a RIS front end, an AKM angled muzzle break thingy and if it's possible, a different stock.

Also James, since we're talking, have you ever had any issues with your TM MP7's bolt getting stuck? My mate bought one when I got my AK and the bolt keeps sticking after every 3 mags or so, we've lubed it to absolute buggery as well. Can't understand it.

I can see that to much lube could almost create a small vacuum holding the bolt back?

I did think that as well, but it's what the tech we gave it to on the day did to sort it out.

I'm looking after it for him because he doesn't want his 'rents to know he bought it (epic win for me) so I'm going to look up a take down guide or something and try giving it a proper clean out. It's probably full of all sorts of sandy shit from the site.

DELTA DELTA DELTA!!

So yeah, brilliant weekend! Next year, everyone else is joining me and Arden on Delta, yeah?

Yeah, Delta always seemed to be the first to start chanting their team name ad nauseam, "Delta, Delta, Delta..." Sort of reminded me of those cocks who make up the audience for Jeremy Kyle going, "Ooh, ooh, ooh..." in imitation of yanks whom they imagine are cool, but are in fact merely incapable of expressing themselves without reverting to basic primate behaviour, as a result of the inculcation and extirpation they received in place of an education. Desmond Morris would love Delta

What was it we Others were going to be, Liam? "Annihilated" wasn't it? Second by eighty seven points is hardly that, is it? And when you consider that at least half, but probably more, of our team, including our leaders, were either in fancy dress and/or just nobbing about the whole time, or literally the walking wounded (like the bloke who stepped up when our 2IC was too incapacitated to walk, after being ordered off site the night before by paramedics who treated him for a leg swollen 20% and still going once released from his boot, whom himself had had a stroke and a heart attack only two months previously, just as one example), the fact that you only just beat us goes to show that in reality the minority of Others who did take it seriously and were in the mood and condition to actually play for points totally owned everybody else in the field! :P

No Liam. No.

Others or nothing. Being a nob with my new AK was far too much fun.

Yeah Ed, give me a blue tag or give me dea... an ice cream! Now that Phatima is getting acceptable outdoor range, I can recap the whole 'jog about shooting willy-nilly' experience. Reminded me of the 2nd and 3rd times I ever skirmished :P and I loved it!

And, of course, there's my new love affair with Svetlana to consider, whose scope i finished zeroing by shooting at a few cheeky Deltas whom I spotted scouting the eastern end of the Landing Zone, after presumably creeping across from somewhere around the pond - probably some of the regenners from their spectacular defeat at the Fort, in which I believe you were mentioned in despatches, non mesieur? Anyway, just nobbing about with a sniper rifle, which I created pretty much as cheaply as possible and still have something worth the effort, was a right laugh!

You can run around being a nob on Delta too. It's not like we were actually an organised team. The team descriptions don't seem to mean anything.

Oh, but they do. Delta's description seems to draw a much higher %age, if not all, of those geardos with Systemas and, as often as not, a curious inability to feel hits shot by 'softers younger than them and/or those whose gear they consider 'inferior'. Delta also seems to attract a higher %age of 'softers dressed as yanks. make of that what you will...

Who knows what went through the minds of this year's Bravos? Despite several warnings about non hit taking by marshals, they wore their force fields and, despite that and several attempts with more than a three to one numerical advantage (the accepted requirement amongst military scholars for an attacking force to overwhelm a defended fixed position), they were incapable of storming Heartbreak Ridge, even when we were down to three live defenders left, ffs!

From my experience of my fellow Others, it seems our team attracted the highest %age of foreigners, for whom English was sometimes an almost nonexistent 2nd language, and as mentioned above, the fancy dressers and people who were generally just up for a laugh and didn't care who won, alongside the spectacularly brave / flamboyantly reckless who cared about winning enough to pull off some amazing stunts, such as the sniper in full ghillie suit whom I saw rise out of the ferns by the side of the path opposite Heartbreak Ridge, past / into which plenty of Bravos had been strolling / patrolling, only to eschew his rifle and secondary to sprint 35-40m up to a lone Bravo for a knife-kill!

As for the AK, I'm all about that, though I may look for one with wood bits.

It wouldn't take much work with a dremmel and drill to fit RS AK furniture onto a G&G RK47. The main work would be drilling a 19mm Ø hole from the space under the butt plate almost up to the receiver for a NiMh stick, or 21-22mm Ø for a LiPo, and a couple of 8mm Ø holes, filed together into an oval, from the new battery compartment into the receiver for connectors. Either that or discard the blowback mech and fit a battery under the top cover...

2nd edit: you should come over to the dark side, Liam. We can have a friendly competition: pick the most obvious bell-end from your former team mates from any approaching group and each name parts of the body for the other to try to hit... :)

My first ever time at GZ and was on Delta as that's the team my normal team always plays on. I enjoyed most of the weekend there however there were a few times I was a little pissed off with things. The game was tight points wise which makes every objective count.

I know people on Delta weren't happy with hit taking on both bravo and the others sides, and it's clear from this discussion that it's the same for those teams when asked about delta. With that many people on site there are always going to be issues with those who fail to follow rule number one, "Don't be a dick!". Like the Other player that decided not to bang kill but to place a pistol to the side of a Delta players head and unleash a few rounds. There was no call for that it makes no sense whatsoever.

I know at least one instance of a Delta responding to a challenge from a group of Bravo that he was bravo allowing them to walk towards the base he was in thinking they were safe before taking them out. Bad Delta. Or the group of Bravo who walked out of a dead zone 20m ahead of our team on the path, we decided to leave them be so they could get back to their line to join in, who then decided to drop their hands and raise their guns and were then surprised when we took them out. They started shouting at us that they were dead and continued towards their lines. While I took the hit that I had received from them.

My observation was that the quality of play declined rapidly from about 12 on Sunday, Delta were warned about overkill, many of Delta were complaining about hit taking for both of the other teams. I know there was one small path held by players on the others team, 3 or 4 players emptied high caps and even a C mag into a position with bb's being returned from said position no hit was ever called from the other even though a few snipers that were with us scoped it out and could see the rounds hitting the player. The marshal was eventually called over to deal with them.

Numerous times we had skirmishes with others up by outpost 7, we had a guy stationed ahead of our front line who was our FOP, he heard and saw many of the dead players walking back to the DZ and calling out the positions of our players to their mates. Alternatively the people using the regen to gain an advantage, going to a DZ that took them past our positions then returning to the game far to our rear, way ahead of any route that would have got them there safely otherwise.

As I said at the beginning there are probably members of Others and Bravo who have similar stories about Delta. All I know is I called every hit I felt or heard, even some that were questionable and in one instance one I didn't even think was a hit but its better to be over cautious, I didn't give away any intel I gained while walking about 'dead'. And if you can say/know you are the same then its just a shame that some others can't.

I liked that there was such an international feel to the event, we had a team of 4 Hungarian guys on Delta ( 1 who had never played before) and a team of at least 25 French guys most who didn't speak English, good thing one of our guys is half French so he could help them out.

BTW it was fairly obvious that The Others had something against Delta on the Sat, I didn't see a single orange tag all of Saturday.

Oh and Ian, the Delta chanting at the campsite I didn't and still don't get, all seemed overly competitive to me. At the village on sunday it was a bit of a laugh, def added to the atmosphere for me, at least twice up there it was started by a German guy on my team. And we were encouraged to use it as a battle cry, although I don't think it was used much.
