  3. hey friends im trying to figure out where to put my baofeng uv5r iii on my invadergear reaper QRB vest currently i have a 3 slot mag pouch on the front and a molle bag on the back it seems to big to fit on sides should i just toss it in a magpouch on the front and say job done?
  4. PMR doesn't need a licence, but you're also only supposed to use a radio with .5W output and a fixed antenna so technically you shouldn't use those frequencies with a UV5R. For the other frequencies yes, you do need a licence. The business light licence is the easiest to get (mine was £75 for a 5 year validity) as it doesn't require exams be passed. That said, many sites have their own licence that will cover you for use on their site (as long as you stick to their approved frequencies) added to which, as long as you're not using Emergency Services frequencies then the chances of actually getting caught and prosecuted are incredibly slim. Not that I'm encouraging ANYONE to break the law. In terms of setting up, get a programming cable and download a copy of CHiRP. That has a preset group of frequencies you can download to your radio that lines up with the Business light licenced frequencies.
  5. Treated myself to a new radio Booofwaaang Ar-152, some gel cups for my headset and to coordinate, a fresh headband too The radio is bloody MAHOOSIVE!! ? (Uv5r for scale)
  6. Yes, it will work fine on a UV5R with the earmor ptt.
  7. Hello chaps, I think I just avoided making a mistake as the G9 pro can still be sent back, but it seems it is not compatible with the Earmor m32's. It seems that the headset is low impedance while the Midland G9 is high impedance. Shame as the G9 pro is otherwise excellent. But my question - and I did a bit of searching on the internet and here first and found this thread: I have also just emailed the UK branch of Earmor too see what they say, but can anyone please confirm if the Earmor's will just work fine with a good old Baofeng UV5R (as long as I have the Earmor Kenwood PTT)? Or is there hope/a workaround with the Midland G9 Pro? I read on a Reddit thread that if you change the mic to a non dynamic one then it works... Thanks very much in advance.
  8. You can't use a UV5R on PMR 446 frequencies legally because the UV5R puts out 5w which is over the mikitnfor someone without a licence Get UV-5R's and a business license from OFCOM and use the designated frequencies they assign the licence to cover your arse, it's like £75 for 5 years and you can have unlimited people under it
  9. This Thread might be handy for you: Many good options, cheap (but good) baofengs can be had for under £15 - on the likes of aliexpress - e.g. the venerable UV5R, or the newer UV13 pro - just make sure that you take the time to programme them to frequencies that aren't going to annoy people (i.e. PMR446).
  10. This week, I picked up the following for £100: LCT AK74 5 AK magazines Padded gun bag Baofeng UV5R radio SRVV belt rig
  11. Unsure of 1, but re/ 2 friends and I all use the baofeng UV5R and the ear piece it comes with. No programming required just pick a channel and go. Also has a handy lock key so when youre sliding around you don't end up on someone elses channel. For MTP outfits, literally any car boot will have loads going cheap, same for virtually any milsurp store. Just had a quick look at G&G CM16's which is what we all got as our starting rifles and holy fuck theyve increased in price.
  12. Didn't really pay attention to this as my old radios worked fine. Having bought 2 new Uv5Rs, i didnt read the description, even though it was in bright yellow (forgot my range anyway) so went ahead Click here to view an Ebay posting of an example seems they are locked out above 440MHz to transmit even if you do have the license, all my frequencies being over 440 it seems, you can factory reset them which on the 2 new ones has fixed the issue thanks to youtube but one of my old ones doesn't want to play ball. So when you use chirp to upload the data, the PTT button will only beep and wont allow transmit after anyone else had this issue recently? (assuming we are all doing this legally here!)
  13. Excited to be able to make this one as it has been too long since the last event (Op ACRE from Stirling Airsoft....also at Glos Prison) and I love game play with a bit more to it than just 30-40mins of pew-pew and then faffing in the safe zone for almost as long. Still weighing up the primary - M733 AEG (with bodged handguard - Gorilla Glue and Milliput to the rescue!) or the MWS (with heavy, real capacity mags...but RECOIL!) and which chest rig to take. USP with lots of mags is a given for the up close and personal nature of the buildings. Very little comms from the organisers, guess there will be an info dump on the day and I can panic program my UV5R before kick off. Got my gang colour t-shirt and 0.28g BBs sorted and waiver signed.
  14. Tweaked my two Baofeng UV5R* by removing the inner nubs from the torch/alarm and FM radio button as I am fed up of hitting them and not the PTT. I can still activate them with a pen or small screwdriver if I ever need to. PTT also got some 120grit paper added to make it easy to locate even with gloves on. Final tweak was a Larry Vickers double mag set up. Watch the Colt 723 video on Forgotten Weapons youtube channel. *yes I have a licence for them, sit down. Also stay off my frequencies ?
  15. I've had & run Baofeng UV5R's for a year or so now which are perfectly fine, but comes with limitations as you'd expect for a fairly low ticket item. It's a no brainer (A no sh*t sherlock moment!), but the more we've been utilising our coms semi-effectively, the more efficient as a unit we've become, so being the inevitable peacock that I am have recently purchased an FCS 152 Radio & KDU. Nowhere near as user friendly to get up & running, but have purchased this as it'll mean I need to study / tinker & learn as opposed to being shown for a change! Anyways, just awaiting connector mods to my existing PTT to have everything up & running but looking forward to figuring this out & getting the best out of the kit
  16. I’m going to go against the flow and say no to Baofengs My number one recommendation would be any PMR with no further licence requirements For the OPs need for long PTT to look at the cables supplied or identify the socket types for an aftermarket PTT cable / headset But it depends on their definition of ‘long’ PTT cable, I have seen very long and pretty short cables coming by default with handsets and wide varieties of after market cables, or a bit of DIY work. A thing to be wary of with aftermarket cables is slightly different tolerances in quality/plug length and also different wiring when the plugs look the same If however the OP has a need for team privacy, longer range etc then to a licenced option and perhaps the UV5R
  17. I will third that. baofengs uv5r, Great price very reliable. Not to difficult to set up. They do take a Kenwood fittings so easy to set up a PTT. In regards of a long wire with the PTT this is not something i have seen but would of thought should be easy enough to find. The general rule in the UK for power is anything over 0.5w power requires a licence baofengs generally start a 5/8 watts.
  18. For radios themselves lots of people will recommend baofengs uv5r which can be good and can be good for starter or Airsoft radios. However, to use them you should have a license and when people get the licenses they tend to go for the small business licence (£75 for 5 years) and covers a group of people. Some sites (gunman Airsoft for example) and allow customers to use their licence/channels. Lots of people don't bother to get a license and I have never heard of anyone being caught, but that's the law bit covered. You shouldn't use them on pmr channels (too powerful) but you'll have channels you can use them on They take the standard Motorola or kenwood (can't remember)fittings, so you could get a standard speaker mic for them and a covert ear piece. Or you could go to someone like JCI Comms and get a military style ptt which would mean you can plug them into your military style headset. Going this way is expensive, but good Comms are expensive. There are issues mixing and matching repro comm stuff with real stuff, JCI can recommend. You could also go for standard pmr radios from Argos, but most won't be powerful enough for some sites (especially with buildings). And headsets etc will be more limited. Next up you could go for Motorola, kenwood or yaesu. They're the next level and most will need licenses. Similar issues as with baofengs on the accessories department but the QC on the handsets it better. Baofengs have a habit of failing when they are exposed to damp, I used then for weekend events and after binning off my 4th or 5th one I got a Kenwood and have used it since, £25 per baofeng or £175 for a Kenwood. I was using it for a lot of weekend events, in the rain, cold, snow, hot etc. If you really want to pay out but have what should be amazing comms, you could get a TCA or Tri 148/152, basically repros of real radios, £250+ for the radio + only works with legit ptts and headsets. JCI Comms (Facebook and instagram) will be your friend here. From what I've seen they're amazing when they work but often have issues or niggles. For you, my recommendation would be a baofeng uv5r, a baofeng speaker mic and a covert ear piece from eBay, roughly £45 all in, plus your license if you need one (depending on your site). It works for most airsofters needs 95% of the time. If you really enjoy them etc, then upgrading when you're more knowledgeable is sensible. I don't know about blue tooth for the foregrip based ptts, sounds good but risky Vs hardwired
  19. 5 x UV5R 2 x UV9R waterproof model Run the 18" aerial on them, provide coms for all mates for Airsoft and Skiing. they replaced a swathe of MT50 PMR's I have a licence for them. no issues what so ever with any of them, but I get them from Baofeng UK direct to make sure I dont get fake ones
  20. Just bought a Baofeng UV5R as it was on a deal of the day on Amazon, but the clip missing when it turned up so might send it back but it was cheap as chips so might just keep it.

  25. From people that have told me throat mic's are wank. Dont bother. Personally I run the normal low profile D shape in ear piece that came with my UV5R but then I run slimmer style gloves also (pig gloves) running it through my PC in a way that the wires don't get caught up is pretty easy and the PTT for these can then be rigged to your shoulder pad or the area where your PC sits under your neck. Only other option really from what you've described is going with a different covert earpiece that has a bigger PTT (think of the ones you usually see bouncers wear, cant recall the name)
