The 'What have you just bought' Thread
Mr Monkey Nuts replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
My JG Bar 10 from Taiwangun arrived! She has been stripped, cleaned, a bit of teflon tape and re greased, then treated to a Deepfire TBB and two Deepfire mags from Redwolf. I already had a scope thats been sprayed OD, so a bit of camo tape went on, i'm not very impressed with the look, but cant be fussed stripping off the scope, I may re spray it tomorrow. In mostly stock form she is 410fps on .20g and 10/10 shot accurate on a coke can at 25m. I will try getting out to a longer range tomorrow and will be skirmishing her on Sunday at Formby. Out of the box she seems to be built pretty well, i'm going to give it a bit of time but I think I will be calling bullshit to the "all sniperz are poo and must spend 50000£z!" There is a horrible air leak from the piston, but its an undersized o-ring, a quick trip to my local DIY shop will sort that. The piston itself is very solid and well put together and much better quality than most AEG pistons. The cylinder is nicely polished, the cylinder head seats perfectly. The hop up woks well and even the hop up rubber seems decent for now. The trigger pulls nicely, is a crisp reliable break and has a realistic level of resistance. The sears look cheap and I do expect them to break, but i'm not inclined to pre-emptively upgrade them until they do go. I put over 100 rounds through her without a single issue so far. It does feel a bit delicate, I don't think its a gun you can abuse or throw around but its impressed me so far. All in delivered, gun scope, bbs, TBB, 2 extra mags and a bag for less than £150 is pretty good in my book. -
War or Military novel recommendations?
Mr Monkey Nuts replied to Mr Monkey Nuts's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
No no not aimed at anyone specific. The title was specifically vague, "good books you would recommend that retain a high level of realism and integrity to the truth, but allow a degree of flair and embellishment for both entertainment and matters of national security, focusing on western allied, conflicts spanning from WW1 to present day, or possibly more historic wars if you recommend them. I will also allow books based around a realistic theme of military service, but with fictitious characters participating in real historic events." just doesn't feel as snappy. -
War or Military novel recommendations?
Mr Monkey Nuts replied to Mr Monkey Nuts's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I think you are getting carried away with semantics a little. -
If you reduce the outer barrel, but keep the same length inner, you will have the barrel poking out of the end .... Unless you want to hide it with a suppressor, It serves no perpous. What are you trying to achieve? Don't wory about cylinder bores it's another myth that has evolved into nonsenseness and only really relivent to excessively long barrels and very high fps builds.
-
That one replaces the whole barrel, from start to end, the first part is the 10 inch short barrel, then you screw the second piece on for a 14 inch barrel. IIRC you will need a 260mm and a 363mm but I'm not 100% on those measurements, so best double check. You will also want a new front A post, collapsible look good and can be had cheap from the same HK supplier, who are pretty good, I have ordered from them before.

The G&G barrell is different to the more traditional, in that its made up in three sections. you could try machining the part furthest away from the gun, but is not great quality metal and getting a decent tread would take a fair amount of work I suspect. This is what you need.

What military or war novels have you enjoyed reading and would recommend? Bravo Two Zero, by Andy McNab is obviously the quintessential modern SF war story, which paved the way for an entire genre of similar stories from around the world. McNab has continued to churn out many books some great, some no so. B2Z is an essential read for all with a military interest imo and even a good read for those without. I have also just finished Sniper One by Dan Mills. Absolutely brilliant read. Its a nice simplistic style for those who don't "do" reading, but detailed enough that you can really get to know the guys and the shitstorm they lived in. It details the 2004 siege of Cimic House in Iraq and some great perspectives from both a sniper view but a normal military view too. I didn't expect much from it, but it blew me away. I can foresee a few "bah kid, readin iz 4 gayz!!1!, all abowt da battlfeild4z!" .... two things; 1) Shut up. 2) try The New Recruit, by McNab again. Its aimed at young prospective military recruits and is written in a great supportive way. Its the story of a young naive lad who joins up. It follows from day 1 to the day he leaves his first tour of duty and covers all the highs and lows of military life. its not very "special forces" its not very technical and its not long or hard (but your mum seems to like it). It may as well be a Army Careers pamphlet, but its a good read for those who don't like to read, and those that want a proper "underdog grunt" story. So what would you recommend?

Any experience with these goggles?
Mr Monkey Nuts replied to ronin677's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I like my trackers, they have good quality lenses and with cat crap they are fairly fog free. But then I don't restrict airflow around them. I would suggest thas the issue and will continue to be an issue with any glasses. You can't beat science. You could try much more open glases such as the bolle silium, It's a compromise, in terms of coverage, but they still offer quite good protection. With cat crap again I have used them in the rain and it IPSC with no fogging problems. -
That's no fun!

I have had some good experience with HFC pistols, definitely the best of the budget guns and more than useable in a skirmish. -
That's barely taiwanguns fault is it? You should have emailed first, no actually you should have written it in the comment box. They didn't ignore your email, they prioritise fulfilling orders for paid customers ahead of answering emails.

It sound like you just want an AEG with a scope. an out of the box sr25 is going to be no better or more accurate than an out of the box combat machine.
-
A bit cottage industry? That's cottage outhouse marketing right there. I was going to write a big defamatory post, listing why, but have decided to refrain. Needless to say they won't be getting any of my money. [ETA] £8.16 to post 1kg of BBs .... are you having a laugh?

I was forced into buying .25 Bulldog BBs once as that was all that was available on the site and I had ran out and they worked fine in my G&G GR16, range was poor, but fed in a high cap firly well with the occasional jam. In my pistol the first 5 or 6 fed fine, but then stopped firing and locked bas as if out of ammo: They somehow manage to jam in the magazine and hold themselves there even with vigorous shaking, you have to bang it to shake them off, I don't know how? maybe static, maybe its the snoop doginess or maybe its all the Bitches, but it sure ain't physics! so yes, I know the earlier post was in jest, but they truely are poor.

I may; I have used them in several guns and magazines so far and they have exceeded my every expectation. I use them in my GHK m4, I use them in my G&G gr16 and I used them in my TM Glock, all running 6.3 TBBs. To memory I have not had a single jam or blockage, well one time but the hop up was on full, wound it in and it shot again. I have never seen a double feed with them and they have never mis fed to my knowledge. I have used both the .28 and the .25 flavors and found them both very accurate and consistent, on a 10m range they hit 10/10 on the base of a coke can in all guns, pistol to DMR. with the .28 offering a decent punch on metal competition "poppers" that the .25s struggle with. The .28 were more accurate during an IPSC session than the .25s. In open field the 2.8s hold their trajectory and range with very little deviation, they will deviate obviously by external factors but they seem to be the most consistent. I use .25s for indoor CQB because they are slightly cheaper. I'm also a big fan of Taiwanguns P&J Bio bbs, although I have had some in my garden now for over 6 months that still are not degrading, they are nicely finished, consistent and accurate. I used to use Blaster Devils and they were good bbs, quite accurate, very rarely jammed and when they did I can't say for certain it was a bb issue or a gun/magazine feed issue, but I find the bastards more consistent and more accurate. if im being critical I actually found the .20 black devils I have for chrono testing often miss feed and feel a bit greaser and appear quite shiny in comparison to the white .25 devils. The BBB are quite smooth and matte with no visible mouldings or imperfections. The only thing that lets them down is the bag they come in can sometimes split in the corners, but I believe they are addressing that according to facebook. Its all anecdotal and circumstantial of course and just my 2c, but they just seem to be a much higher quality and better performing BB, I don't know how or why, but they just work for me. Its only a couple of quid extra, (less than a pint) over a bottle of blasters and I would definitely recommend at least trying them. You may be pleasantly surprised. It may be worth noting I use low caps and gas guns so i'm not shooting 2000 shots a day. if you are a bit ammo hungry I can for see the cost factor playing a bigger role in choice. I have bought some from Patrol Base and the seller on Ebay, who is slightly more expensive, but more convenient than driving from manchester to leeds. Rumors are that Redwolf will soon be selling them too. [ETA] Agghh zero ones! I forgot about those horrible POS, one of my local sites use them for a game where you have to find the ammo and are forced to use the bbs they provide, they jammed and broke the speed loader before they even got into the magazine.

is there a difference between a sniper barrel and an AEG barrel? Specifically the hop up end?
-
I have just noticed they have dropped the shipping charge to £11.58. I, like Lozart, thought it was a waste of time emailing them, but I must eat humble pie and say thank you to the moaning cheep-skates that did. A JG BAR should be on its way to me imminently

Why do people keep telling the courier its a firearm, realistic, imitation or otherwise, and then panic when the courier gets bit twitchy. Its a Toy, it's shipped as a toy. End of.

Spray the krylon into a takeaway tub so it is like a traditional paint, then use a sponge.

Its illegal in 'Murica and I believe in parts of europe too, I cant seem to find anything pointing to it being illegal in the UK, although it is a bit dangerous, the bottle should only be filled to 80% and should be completely empty, neither of which you can do in a shed. Most people freeze the bottle for a few hours first. Propane expands in air to 240 times its liquid volume, and is relatively volatile, so its a pretty hazardous gas to be messing with. I have been using a madbull adapter for a few months now with no issues or leaks, I just wish it came with a cap like the AI one does. It flipping stinks though!

First and foremost, you don't need to be registered to play airsoft, you may need to be UKARA registered if you wish to purchase an all black gun, there is no restriction on purchasing a two tone or using hire guns / borrowing one, and there are no restrictions on playing. If its for an air rifle, you may be better asking on an air rifle forum, airsoft sights are generally pretty poor design and construction, they are also mostly 20mm weaver rails where as most air rifles when I had them were 11mm Dovetail rails. You could consider angled iron sights like this: http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft-sights-scopes/replica-angled-iron-sights.htm#.VD-YA_nF98E

The overall quality of the standard Magnums have gone rapidly down hill over the last 6 or 7 years, my standard issue boots (patrol CEN) are terrible and take about 3 months to fully break in, by which time the leather is too scuffed and ready for the bin. I have had a pair of Magnum Spider 8.1 for about 12 months now and they have lasted quite well and are pretty comfortable, although not even remotely watertight. I did have a pair of bates and they were the most comfortable boots I have ever owned, but are heavy and had huge platform heels. Not very nimble boots. One of the lads had some DrMarten patrol boots that fell to bits after 3 weeks, the sole came loose and the lace eyelets were tearing. My next pair will be Haix Airpower P3s. But then I wear mine 15 hours a day at work where they need to be posh enough to walk into an Alderley edge mansion, protective enough to walk onto a building site and nimble enough to rally inbetween. I think if they were purely for airsoft I wouldn't spend anywhere near the money I do on boots, good fitting £25 surplus boots are more than enough for the odd Sunday romp in the woods imo. Getting a boot that fits and is broken into your foot is key, an expensive boot that doesn't fit is a bad boot. TL:DR I'm a bit of a boot whore

So in a nut shell its for convenience? The standard hop works well, is accurate and consistent, but a pain to adjust? I take on all your points and agree entirely, I left hop adjustment out of my earlier post because I assumed it was a given that you should set your hop for any gun from pistol to BAR.
