  1. Small pack ordered and have won auction for webbing. I now have everything for the basic loadout on its way to me. The next step is to upgrade bits to more authentic items. Battledress will be 1st for this
  2. It's taken 2 weeks but my Denison Smock has now arrived. My flat now smells of mothballs.

  3. Have ordered Gaiters, helmet net and scrim, Blanco (to dye the webbing) and L straps (The straps for pattern 37 backpacks) from soldier of fortune. If I win the Sten sling and webbing, I will have a very basic setup sorted. Will then just need a small pack (easy to get) and battledress.
  4. http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/felt-bush-hat-product,7914 Kinda tempting
  5. The original ASG mags have the opposite problem, if you take the speed loader out too fast, they spew half the mag before the catch engages. The ASG mags are very much better quality, but as King Arms are the only ones making 110 round mags, people will keep buying them. Over on the WW2airsoft forums, you can read about people who's mags had to be filed down to fit into MP40's. Apparently Stens aren't usually a problem, I guess I was unlucky.
  6. To get an idea of the size of the bit of plastic used. They are the numbered bits from the sprue of an airfix kit. Each number cut in half will do 2 mags.
  7. You want one of these? The white bit is the added slither of grey plastic. Incidentally, on some its glued to the mag, on others to the slider. Doesn't make any difference its just fiddly to get the glued side in the same direction each time
  8. Don't you hate those market forces I think I need larger mesh net than even the netting you have. I have bids on ebay auctions atm for this webbing and a sten gun sling both ending in the next 24hrs. The webbing includes the entrenching tool but not the handle for it. I will then just need a small pack and L straps, trousers, helmet net, scrim, chin strap. I'm getting there slowly There is a spin off loadout I'm considering, Aussie Jungle greens. Basically the same webbing with green shirt and trousers and a slouch hat. I got the King arms mags. They are a pain in the arse. The catch that holds the bb's in is chisel shaped but sticks out too far so that when you try and load the mag, the hopup is pushing on the horizontal bit. If you fill the mag and push the catch in a millimetre then they go in nicely, otherwise it requires quite a slap so will probably break something. Edit: have done a successful modification of the mags by glueing slither of plastic in front of the ribbed slider on the catch. some mags slot in really easy now, others are as stiff as the original ASG mag.
  9. I think I have found the perfect pen lid, just need to get the glue
  10. Note: I have not modified the interior or chinstrap yet and the photo makes it look smaller.
  11. Considered it, but I don't really want to spend much money at all on this, its more to show that it would work. Plus it could damage the midcap when you press down on it. I guess what I need is the right type of pen lid.
  12. Jeez, always wanting pics. I'll put my phone on charge and take a pic in a bit then.
  13. For those of you who don't read the status updates, I think Mr B has set me a challenge Airsoft_Mr BWhat do you guys think of the Elite Force SL-14? Hope they arrive over here too. Today, 04:28 PM Show all 4 comments Russe11 I could build something better with a funnel, parts from a high cap mag, a broken hop unit and a cranking handle. It would be easier to use and smaller. But would it be worth the hassle? Today, 05:28 PM · Delete Russe11 Take a high cap, remove the spring, connect a handle directly to the wheel that pushes the bb's and glue the lower part of a hop unit into the hole at the top so that you can then press your low cap onto the device and turn the handle to load the mag Today, 05:35 PM · Delete Airsoft_Mr B If you think you could do it I'd say go for it. I don't know if you get a lot of spare time but you seem fairly confident and probably pretty good at making stuff so I think it'd be great to try. Today, 09:20 PM Russe11 I'm tempted, just to prove it would work, but tbh I have no need for a better speed loader and I have other projects on the go I have just taken a look at my broken High cap and I think it would take 5 mins to convert it into an uber speed loader. -Disconnect the spring -Glue the wheel that pushes the bb's directly to the windy wheel axle -Drill a hole in the outer casing level with the windy wheel axle -put the high cap back together -stick an allen key into the end of the windy wheel axle through the hole *at this stage the high cap will push bb's up to the outlet nozzle as the allen key is turned with no spring to store the extra turns. -glue a tube into the top of the high cap and shape the end to form a coupling with the midcap. The principle is that the high cap will push bb's into the midcap as fast as you turn the allen key. For more speed, you could even use a power drill All I need is glue (which I can pick up tomorrow) and a plastic tube to form the connection between the mags. Any idea where I could find such a tube? A broken hop unit or speed loader are 2 ideas I had. As I am using an MP5 double mag high cap, it will even be possible to put a funnel into the high cap while it's loading a midcap. So you have something better than the Elite Force SL-14 as you cannot fill that easily while using it and it will be the size of 2 MP5 mags, not the size of an MP5. Plus it will work on any mid cap without adapters, you just have to hold the mag on. Thus it would be ideal for a team using different guns. Am I a genius or can someone tell me where it will go wrong? And does anyone know where I can get a suitable bit of tubing?
  14. Helmet is almost sorted. I used a stanley knife to cut the lip at the front off, then trimmed the sides as well to make a straight edge whichever direction you look at it from. I will need a bit of foam to make it comfortable and a chip strap but at present it looks like an airbourne helmet even without netting and scrim. Not bad for £8 and 20 mins work
  15. Do you know where the leak is? Did you drop or knock the mag on something? My 1st time out with a gas pistol, I dropped a mag and it developed a leak along the seam at the bottom of the mag. I sealed it with a small amount of 2 part epoxy glue and it's now fine. If you haven't dropped it or done anything wrong, it's faulty so send it back and ask for a replacement. It shouldn't be possible to overfill the gas as it will only fill up to the point where the pressure in the mag is the same as in the can.
  16. Whenever this thread comes to the top now, I get a feeling of impending (financial) Doom
  17. Yup, thats exactly what I had in mind, trim the lip off and shape it with a bit of heat if needed. Or possibly use some epoxy putty to reshape the whole exterior. I will probably have the sten with me at OP: Shining light for you to play with anyway, I'm even toying with using it as my main gun and sticking to pistol for inside but the sensible side of me keeps telling me an MP5 is somewhat more conservative on ammo
  18. http://www.airsoftarmoury.co.uk/acatalog/KA-MP40--1143.html Box of King arms mags for my Sten. They seem to be hard to find and the single 50 round mag that came with the gun just wasn't going to cut it when I finally get to play with it at an outdoor site. I also bought a cheap plastic GI helmet in the hope I can remodel it into something resembling a ww2 British airbourne helmet. Some netting and scrim should hopefully hide what it really is
  19. Finally found some King arms mags http://www.airsoftarmoury.co.uk/acatalog/KA-MP40--1143.html I did in the process discover that SRC makes MP40 mags in 110 and 280 round capacities. Not sure about compatibility though and the idea of winding a high cap with the gun tilted sideways doesn't appeal.
  20. BTW, looks like the cheap Stens have sold out http://www.landwarriorairsoft.com/acatalog/BSA-STEN-MKII-AS16758B.html#.UtnRBNLFKmw Taiwangun.com http://www.taiwangun.com/en/agm-058 I have ordered a plastic American helmet from amazon. My hope is that if I reshape it slightly, I can get a cheap airbourne helmet that won't notice under some netting and scrim. It says suitable for Adults and Children, so I'm guessing it will be too small as a US helmet, making it about right
  21. Found the smock I ordered from Germany here http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/shop/british-militaria/wwii-1940-s.html Cheaper if you take into accound shipping.
  22. I couldn't resist They also have battledress jackets (but too small for me) http://www.meanandgreen.com/army/Dutch_Army/WW2_Style_Dutch_Battledress_Jacket/2180/2952.html
  23. If only you had kept the uniform and not sold it to buy alcohol eh Ian?
  24. So, the latest on this. I have emailed Cobbaton and they are just checking which parts of my shopping list they have and will get back to me with a price. Had an email yesterday telling me that my smock had reached the stage of being packed. I'm guessing it will arrive eventually. They may be slow but at least they keep you informed
  25. Anyone fancy a day trip to Barnstaple? As part of my search for WW2 webbing I found this web site http://www.cobbatoncombat.co.uk/ Maybe they would open for a group of us?
