The 'What have you just bought' Thread
TheFull9 replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Well that entirely depends on which brand of AEG and GBBr. Different mfgs use different spec threads on their uppers. -
mm.. yeah, but isn't a 1911. You wouldn't label a Glock 19 a Glock 17.

Looks good mate. I'd advise cranking that holster high up as you can though. Those nylon all-in-1 types tend to sit low but that's the first ever drop-calf I've seen, I'd recommend cutting some of the strap if it won't adjust much above your knee (and if it's possible to do so).

http://www.tactical-kit.co.uk/tactical-tailor-plate-carrier-modular-22001-7050-p.asp Real deal quality (far and away above most of the chinese made airsoft kit), £25 under budget. If you really need the extra capacity you can add side panels later on down the line.

Pretty good looking setup mack. Never lived anywhere I've been able to have any RIFs or gear out so I'm pretty envious I have to admit.

Yeah.. there actually isn't, just missing 2 Glocks from the picture, ha. That was as wide as I could make it to fit in the space available though, so cest la vie. Main thing is I learnt a fair bit during the build process and the shopping for the materials about what's available to work with and ways to make maximum possible use of the space. Mk2 will probably be an upside-down T shape to double capacity while still just using the one vertical board, a different hole pattern for the pegs and proper wood instead of reconstituted stuff. The plyboard does work alright, takes a stain and is mega cheap, MDF would make for neater results but looks even uglier than than the ply. Looking around B&Q and Homebase though I found all-pine 'furniture board' which comes in pieces far wider than the average plank, as well as stuff called 'hobbyboard' which comes in some nice hard woods and looks to be planks that are glued and heat pressed together to essentially make one piece. Costs about £15-20 for a big enough board to make what I need, but that will be essentially the entire monetary outlay; which is very reasonable for a quality storage solution I'd say.

Thread title says it. Built myself a pistol rack out of some cheap wood last week, much better solution than I had before (i.e. all the handguns just sort of crammed haphazardly next to some other gear on a shelf).

Depends on the AEG manufacturer. I have a mil-spec MOE stock on a G&G gun here, very close fit indeed. The MOE and B5 Bravo I've used on my G&P were insanely tight fitting, could barely be adjusted. RS AR stocks fit 'just right' on all my TM recoil guns and KWAs. Very loose on my 2 Avalon/VFCs though and I tried a variety of stock types on them so it's definitely the airsoft buffer tubes that change, not the stock internal dimensions. As per usual with airsoft, tolerances vary wildly. Long as you buy mil-spec AR stocks rather than comm spec, it'll generally be just fine and if it's loose a layer or two of leccy tape will take the slop out.

The 'What have you just got for Christmas' Thread
TheFull9 replied to DX115FALCON's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Airsoft wise, Arc'teryx Talos trousers in grey to match the shirt I've had for a lil while and some good old Mechanix. Not tried the fastfit before so it'll be interesting to compare them to the original model, see how they perform. Not usually a fan of the look of camo gloves if I'm honest, but I just wanted a pair of these for some reason; they're made from some very nice feeling and flexible materials which is the main thing. -
I'm somewhat short sighted, always found an ACOG extremely useful in woodland games; literally couldn't identify friend from foe otherwise. For the longer shots I aim with the optic, closer up you can point-shoot easily enough with a quick burst or few shots in semi. Only way to really know if you like the characteristics of a magnified optic is to try one out. Within a skirmish or two you'll know whether it's for you or not.

£150 is a bit of a steal for those it has to be said. Specially in a 12.5" (at a guess) barrel with mid-length gas, that's a really nice setup. If I didn't have too many guns already I'd pick one up as a loaner. -
Have to say... if your ear ever got in the way of the reciprocating cocking handle, I could only presume you sights were mounted on the side of the gun and your cheek weld was somewhere on the magazine. Despite what some internet commandos out there tend say, you can shoot the real thing left handed without losing teeth. Just only in a very specific, awkward stance and you'd not hit much past 15m I don't think, not without a lot of practice. But anyway, OP, long as it's from a reputable, trusted retailer and brand you cannot go too far wrong; if possible just go in to a shop and get hands on with whatever you can and you'll very quickly figure out what you really like. Half the time these threads end up being more for the old-salts than the new players anyway and it ends up going a bit too in depth, but ergonomics are an entirely individual thing that can't be experienced though the internet. For example, I was always certain that I'd really love the handling characteristics of the P90... handled a real one a couple of weeks back... not a fan it turned out, so you never do know.

The Tac Tailor Fight-Light is cheaper and, IMHO, a lot better.

TM M4 S-System - looking for long free floating handguard
TheFull9 replied to Bourne4red's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
IMO, by the time you've bought all those parts (and this is airsoft, they may or may not fit, you roll the dice) you might as well have bought a G&G combat machine. They have the proper threaded section on the front of the upper for mounting various freefloat handguards. -

Arc'teryx LEAF Talos trousers in MC to go with the matching shirt (only about a 2 year gap between purchases). Like wearing the finest silks... -
After you make 1 post, there's an 'Edit' button down by the Quote and MultiQuote, idea is you use that. Or if you're posting 2 minutes apart just write it all in to one initially.

Have to be honest I'm skeptical of 417 mags going in a 762 FASTmag. 417 are already fatter than M14/FAL and then have ridges that protrude as well.

Quadruple post? First time I've seen that...

Long term, the 'best' kneepads are the ones that go in to your trousers I've found. Either foam inserts or Crye style, all works and is 100% guaranteed to never ever fall down because it's physically impossible; also removes any requirement for straps going round your leg (which personally I never liked).
-
The belt has a strip of loop along the inside and the MALICE on the mag pouches are kept in place with these which have corresponding hook: http://www.first-spear.com/product.php?productid=17527 The loops on the dump pouch also have some velcro. The keepers don't because I bought them in a rush and all I could find in this country were somewhat old-school ones that are more aimed at police use, but that wasn't an issue. Given the thickness and rigidity of the belt and how tightly I had it adjusted, it wasn't shifting around anywhere.

I've been using padded PALS/Warbelts for 4-5 years now so I'm going to try out the direct attachment method that's popular with a lot of civvie shooters in the states. This is the sort of transition setup, doesn't get threaded through the belt loops (use keepers instead) but doing away with any padding or modular attachment. Worked fine in the game I tried it, though the 4 layers of webbing and 2 layers of plastic going through the holster was functional but forced the belt in to an awkward shape that was noticeably (when not actually in game) digging in after a while.
