The 'What have you just bought' Thread

Not an inconsiderable amount. It's made in the UK = £££. Rather not post those sort of numbers publicly but if you just e-mail their customer services they'll get straight back to you with a spreadsheet listing out all their prices. -
It depends on the features one wants and how much said person wants to spend. I've got a Crye JPC here that a friend lent me and it's a nice, light little rig, but to my mind it has a lot of disadvantages and he's selling it to pay for the FirstSpear/SKD STT PC he just bought to upgrade from it. I don't wanna list out a load of bad points because it'll seem like bashing, but comparing it to the PCs I have now and the many I've owned and used over the years I don't find it to be particularly great personally. What it was, was innovative and at the time it was released it was waaaay ahead of the game and really set a standard (as crye did with the combat shirt), but right now, it's quite a bit behind the leading manufacturers technology and design wise. Does that really matter in airsoft? No of course, but there are better options on the market, IMHO. There are plenty out there which will size down tight and I'm only a 34-35" chest on a fat day so I've gone through many, many PCs to find ones that fit over the last 7 years or so. The bulk/drawing from a belt issue is down to pouch placement primarily, but again, plenty of other options on the market which are low profile and won't get in the way of your belt mounted kit while having various other advantageous features as well. If people like 'em then that's cool, there are far, far worse designs about and compared to the Mk4 Ospreys I see so often in game I'd recommend the JPC to anyone every time. But again, different strokes as always.

-Arktis 'Ranger Trouser' and Hot Climate UBACS -LBX Combat shirt Filling some gaps in my collection that've needed sorting for years. The colours came out a bit off vs reality in the shirt pictures, but the main body on the Arktis shirt is rather close to white for some weird reason (though the material itself is ideal for purpose so I can't complain too much). The LBX ranger green is pretty much exactly on for Crye's ranger green, which is nice. -
Just highlighting some different ways to look at things is all. More people always lurk forums than post on them, so pointing out these things can be at least useful to a lot of folks. I don't wanna tell anyone what sort of loadout they should run end of the day, but I don't think it ever hurts to give people more different potential options for potential consideration (apart from just the common ones seen online that is).
-
I would say 'might as well' is probably an under-statement in that context.
-
I should highlight first that it's your money and you can do whatever you please, but if you don't like it, then why buy one? Unlike being in the military, the beauty of airsoft is you can wear whatever the hell you like, the only thing that's a requirement is some decent eye pro. Again, you can run whatever gear you like, but your current way of approaching things makes no sense to me personally. You come across as if you feel somehow obliged or required to copy real life SF gear. I don't wanna hate on that idea because it's obviously popular these days and people can dress however they like, but it's really, really far from the only way of doing things.
-
Well.. why do you think all those SEALs and SF and super leet ninjas use them for real world, getting-shot-with-real-bullets kinda stuff? Personally, I think that because JPC is designed for jumping and seeing as you're probably not doing a HALO in to airsoft, then there's better options in terms of PCs which don't make certain compromises related to parachute ops. However if one wants the look of the JPC then obviously there's only that option. Though where you're seeing one for £160 I don't know as Tactical-Kit is asking £260 for the Crye original and that's quite the price gap.

I'd be pretty doubtful that they'd work properly. The kydex inserts in a single mag pouch are tight on a STANAG and designed to work with that specific profile. If I recall right the G36 PMAGs step up quite a bit thicker in the area that sits in the mag well? You could probably force them in to the ESSTAC pouches with a lot of 'friendly persuasion' but they'll likely be an absolute pig to get in and out overall. The 762 versions of the pouches might be a bit better but overall they're not designed for mags that aren't straight sided. They build stuff for the US market and that mostly means accommodating STANAG spec 556 mags and straight sided stuff like SCAR-H/SR-25 type mags in the .308 realm. AUGs, G36s etc are a tiny share of the market compared to guns that take your average PMAGs/USGI mags etc.
-
I am jelly of all the kydex pouches, nice rig. Got a triple panel with them being made up for my PC at the moment (ordered it about a month ago) but it's still a few weeks out at least. Think I'll have to pick up some of the ESSTAC pouches soon as well.
-
My part-custom concoction of a modular PC all decked out. About as close to an 'ideal' design as I've gotten so far, pretty close really, I'll make a few changes with the next version (whenever the manufacturers in question get the right materials in) but I've used the rig as pictured at a couple of games and it works a treat all round.

The SRS probably seemed to 'appear' as Trijicon only released the real one a couple of years ago. Most of the Aimpoints and EoTechs we're all used to seeing have been around since before many folks started airsofting, whereas the SRS has come out since AFAIK. Didn't take the cloners long to start copying them either. Where have you guys picked yours up? If it's anything like the various ELCAN Spectre copies out there there might be multiple factories making copies and the quality of the one you get varies by the retailer you buy from. Not surprising at the mall. Once you take range (and full auto) essentially out of the equation, I find mag capacity makes almost no difference. I used nothing more than a 1911 last time I played there, probably did the best performance wise that I ever have.

If you buy a bladder made of cheap plastic that leeches in to the water and/or don't dry out a decent bladder between games, they'll make some nasty tasting water for you. Though the main reasons for getting a Source (imo) apart from just the 'glass' internal finish are the ease of filling/emptying and generally robust build quality. -

I've been doing some T&E for a small spanish holster company that do airsoft Mk23 specific kydex rigs; Phoenix Tactical on facebook. The main business is actually D'Eagle and Mk23 holsters. Don't think they're very cheap but they're custom hand made and work very nicely. Thought I'd mention it for the readers & lurkers out there, I know a lot of airsoft guns are rather poorly served in the holster department. -
Looks good. Really nicely done little rifle setup.

-Whiskey Two Four WTFix MALICE replacements, 6/ea long and short -WTF Loop anywhere piece -PIG Shoulder pad set -PIG Brigandine Chest Rig/Panel -ESSTAC KYWI -Magpul MS1 Sling MS3 adapter block -Much patchez -Tactical drinks mat The PIG/FirstSpear STT PC isn't mine sadly, brought that over for for a mate; but then it'd be a bit silly for me to buy another Multicam FS PC anyway. Worked out pretty well in that I got to record a video review without having to buy one; extremely nice considering it's half the price of a Strandhogg. -
The exact differences vary. A lot of the time it's actually trademarks, i.e. the Asia edition will have full and realistic trades because US and European arms manufacturers have a much harder job preventing their sale in HK/Taiwain/China etc whereas once those items get to Europe and America with unlicensed trades they might get seized. Sometimes there'll be bigger differences, like materials used for a pistol slide etc. Overall the term doesn't have a catch-all meaning, you've just got to research the specific model you're looking at. If you open both the different versions' product pages at a retailer and study the descriptions and pictures closely you'll sometimes see where the differences are. If not then contact the retailer (e-mail or facebook).

If you're after some input this'd be mine. The vest looks like Italian Vegetato, certainly not anything US Army related but then airsoft retailers have a bad habit of mis-labeling stuff. MOLLE (or PALS to be more accurate) isn't complicated or expensive, check out the Warrior stuff and BULLE gear on UK Tactical and Flecktarn.co.uk respectively. You can get a basic chest rig for not much money, indeed often less money then some of the f*****g absurd prices that some airsoft shops charge for poorly made copies of obsolete designs of load-bearing gear items. That DPM shirt is some weird looking knock off stuff, get yourself on ebay and buy surplus if you want anything brit issue, it's comparatively cheap and mostly good quality (certainly CS95 stuff is, most of the new PCS cut stuff wont be as hardy overall). Not sure what that smock is but they're good for carrying lots of stuff like food and lights and navigation/survial gear and not particularly useful for your average sunday game of running about in the woods, you'll hardly ever see anyone wear one; 100% not appropriate for indoor CQB too. Get yourself a decent combat shirt/UBACS, particularly when the summer comes around you'll soon understand the desire for having the absolute minimum of material under your rig; the current PCS/MTP issued UBACS is IMO the best option for airsoft (including all the really expensive mega gucci s**t). Not sure there is such a thing as a TM VSR 'copy' that uses gas, but hopefully someone who's more knowledgeable on bolt guns that me can comment on that. Ghillies are damn hot so if you're gonna go the 'sniper' route just be aware of its' limitations, it's a very specific niche in an airsoft game. Personally I'd dump a ton of stuff off that M16 cause it looks damn heavy. 40mm shells aren't very common because fun as they are, the usefulness vs weight ratio isn't good overall; some folks like 'em but you don't see them all that often for a reason. You might have the inclination to drape all sorts of lights and lasers on that forend, but I'd advise against it. I've been there, done that, so have many other people.. just... skip that step, save yourself the time and effort, you'll most likely realise the problems with it soon enough. I mean heck if you're a massive body builder then maybe it'll feel like nothing in your hands, but otherwise put as little as possible on the forend of your guns. I'd recommnd dropping the UGL, fitting a low-profile gas block and putting on some nice plastic handguards, your arms will thank you greatly after a few hours. Again if you've skirmished this already then just ignore me, but if you haven't.. well give it a go and you'll probably see what I mean. Internet forum disclaimer: Everything's subjective, everything's about what the user wants in terms of looks and function in both guns and gear. I'm not ragging on anything anybody uses in any way. Just some advice based on experience gained through wasting a lot of time and a lot of money on kit/accessories etc that I've ended up not actually liking. -
Did I say there wasn't? If it came across that way I'm sorry but that wasn't my intended implication. Hence the first sentence about getting in to relationships with specifically over-bearing/controlling type people. Obviously not everyone is like that.

You really don't need to wait for first hand experience to make a judgement on the TM MEU, it's been out for probably 5+ years at this point and there's many reviews floating around. I owned one for maybe 3-4 years, ran it stock and it got the most abuse of any pistol I own/have owned, only time it had slight problems was when it got full of sand inside and that sand mixed with the silicone and got in all the teeny tiny crevices. Strip down and a good clean later, fully sorted. End of the day it's the same inside as all the other TM 5" 1911s so any review of any of those will be applicable and there's tons of those out there (very few having much negative to say). -
I often worry about the number of airsofters who get in to relationships with people who inhibit and trample-on the things that person's really passionate about. It's not my place to tell anyone who they can marry etc, far from it, but I can't help but wonder some days. There's been many whole threads full of people on zero-scum over the years talking about the very subject, secret bank accounts, lying about costs etc. I know there's a massive societal pressure whereby if you're single there's clearly something wrong and defective with you, but I'd honestly far rather people think I'm 'abnormal' than be under the thumb.
-
Well that wasn't really my point. IMHO, the actual honey badger looks good, but the ARES version is a very iffy copy to say the least. I spend a lot of time telling people that it's ok for people to like different things so I assure you I'm aware. But I think it's fairly generally accepted by a large amount of people that of all the guns ARES have done, that one is rather ugly, hence I wouldn't have picked it to argue that ARES make nice looking guns, because you're less likely to convince the audience.
-
That weird abortion of a 'honey badger' wouldn't have been the aesthetic example I'd have chosen in all honesty.
