UK Ranger Regiment Showing off new stuff @ DSEI 2023
Davet replied to Chev Chelios's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
The holy trinity - firepower-mobility-protection. Improve one, compromise the others. Which is one of the reasons why, in Afghanistan, the casualty became the mission. L85A3 “makes weight savings for the frontline soldier…of 100 grams”… What’s the effing point?! Project Payne has been around for donkey’s years, everybody talks the talk but there just isn’t the close logistic support chain to actually make it work. Modernisation and “Future Soldier” rumbles on - I was involved in FIST 😳 back in 2006-2008, blue force tracker, optics, lightweight batteries, etc, etc “lighten the load”! Most of it never materialised and, by and large, any weight savings are usually made up by carrying the extra ammo. -

British Army issue Virtus helmet (aka Revision Batlskin Cobra), mandible and visor. Good luck getting one cheap! While the helmet itself does pop up on EBay the other bits are rarer and, in reality, they shouldn’t really be on the surplus market as they’re likely nicked and classed as ACTO.

Never truly off duty, there’s a legal obligation under Police Regs. PACE s1 can be applied anytime as long as there’s a suspicion somebody may have/be about to commit an offence - see all the media outrage over use of S&S by the Met Police…!
-
I imagine, if there were (off-duty) police officers present, they could probably utilise their Stop/Search powers under s1 of PACE.

I’d caution against giving drugs, over-the-counter or otherwise, to somebody unless you’re trained and licensed to do so or it’s the casualty’s own supply and you’re assisting them to take it, eg. GTN, insulin, etc. If you do, have you diagnosed the issue correctly and are you giving the appropriate drug/dose or are you about to make things worse, without knowing the patient’s medical history? And you are effectively then prescribing the drug. Personally, I carry an IFAK with CAT, Celox, Russell or Fox chest seal, Israeli bandage, NPA. In the car, more of that, plus various size OPAs and I-gels, BVM, gauze bandages various sizes, pulse ox, ATMIST cards plus chinagraph pencil and an AED. I’m trained, licensed and regulated to carry and use it.The only stuff I don’t have, that I do at work, is Penthrox and O2. To paraphrase the Flannel Daddy “get some training”.

Venting gas from every orifice. Although I’ve come back to it this morning to give it a go and it seems to be ok so far… 3rd photo, from web, that appears to match and makes me think it’s a WE… I think I have an answer, thanks to @MILITATED and an ad he’s posted that I saw whilst casually browsing potential replacements. WE it is.

The boy’s got a 1911 that appears to possibly be a WE Kimber and the magazine’s gone defective. There are no markings, bar “45 ACP” on the barrel at the ejection port, externally or internally and doesn’t have the frame rail that I’ve seen on other images, although it does appear to be drilled and tapped to take a screw on adapter. Help in identifying so I can buy the correct replacement mag appreciated! Either that or I’m forking out for a new sidearm…

Hardshells anyone? (Includes PCU ramblings and thoughts)
Davet replied to Skara's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I picked mine up for £65 off EBay, right place right time to get that good a deal. But if you’re looking at £200-300 on a second hand TAD or similar, then the Carinthias on Kit Pest are well worth a look. -

Those would be the Carinthia ones I suggested but were poo poo’d. Kit Pest do them for about £200 in grade A or EBay has cheaper ones that might have a little more wear. I have one and it’s excellent. -
As per Jacket above, definitely no DDPM bergen was ever on issue to green army, the only DDPM nylon gear was patrol & ECM/radio packs (and side pouches for same), MOLLE vest/pouches and early iterations of Osprey armour covers/pouches. As for “them”, who knows…!

Best Load Carrying Options to save the knees! Advice needed.
Davet replied to slipperysquid's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Maybe consider attaching the drop leg to the PLCE belt, especially when you get the yoke for the kit - it’ll take the weight off your trouser belt and alleviate any mid-skirmish “bear shitting in the woods” impressions…! As far as “Milspec” PLCE set up, the generic used to be one double ammo on the left and then 4 utility/water bottle pouches filled with useless crap! At least, that’s what my skinny frame fitted. -
Looks like a circlip - basically a circular spring that prevents loosening. If it is, you’ll need circlip pliers to remove it properly, or you could bodge it with a screwdriver and prise it off, just be careful it doesn’t fly off somewhere!

Slight hijack, and appreciate this is the GBB forum, but… AEG version owner here, just wondering if anyone’s done the ambi to single sided mag release catch conversion? Can’t seem to find anything easily with a Google search. Ambi safety is great but I find the body side mag catch constantly gets caught on kit, not lost any mags yet fortunately. (As much as I would like to go for a bit more realism with GBB, I don’t play enough to justify the extra commitment. I do use low caps though so please forgive me… 🙏)

Fancy little gadget for those inclined - MoD issue, NVG compatible, aircrew finger light - gives a pale blue light, good as a task light for navigation/map reading, close tasks, etc. Ex-wife got it for me from Man at Q&M when she was attached to JSFAW. I’ve used it once at work but don’t really need it. Off/low/high controlled by ambidextrous buttons. Adjustable Velcro strap. Storage pouch. Price includes postage and PayPal G&S fees.£22

😂😂😂 do you have any teenagers?! Already tried, answer “good innit”. Ok I paraphrase but he has no idea what he’s trying to achieve, he just thinks shiny = betterer.

I haven’t been doing this airsoft lark long enough/need to do more research to understand the point of the whole raft of upgrades eldest is asking for, for his 16th birthday, to his G&G ARP9 so after some guidance… List as follows: Gate Titan RetroArms CNC anti-reversal latch Prometheus non-linear spring MS170 Prometheus EG 16:1 hard gears Maxx CNC double o-ring air seal nozzle Maxx CNC M4P hop-up Maxx CNC steel aluminium spring guide thru hole Maxx CMC stainless cylinder Maxx CNC alu double air seal & damper cylinder head Maple Leaf super macaron hop rubber I appreciate some of it will affect performance and some of it will be purely cosmetic but, when asked, he’s not been able to define what he wants to get out of the upgrades - ROF, burst, consistency, etc. He is, after all, a teenager and therefore thinking with my wallet and his mum’s bank account… What’s everyone’s thoughts/advice?
-
Thanks dude. Yeah, already taken the head off but it looks like I need to somehow unscrew/remove the led unit from within the head - it’s all one piece, there’s no separate bezel holding the lens to the head. Sure I’ll figure something out…!
-
Unfortunately this happened over the weekend - the lens on my torch got shot out. Obviously I had a protector that had just arrived but hadn’t got round to fitting it… 🙄 Any ideas were I might be able to get it fixed…? 🙏

Carlisle based and looking for any techs/servicing close by. Which might be a challenge, I know, as nowhere’s near Carlisle… I know of Tactical Geordies in Newcastle and I get over that way occasionally for work but I guess I’m going to struggle for anybody closer. TIA for recommendations.
