  1. Another quality session at District 23. Went to try out my L85A2 to find that my Sotac EXPS3 wouldn't adjust low enough for the BBs to actually land within the reticule. While trying to adjust it, it seems I turned the adjustment screw way past where it should have went and broke something and it's stuck all the way down. I didn't feel any resistance or a stop... it's like it just unscrewed from whatever adjusts the reticule. Didn't want to risk it with my HW S1. That was annoying.

The issue with the height over bore being so big is that i'm literally not looking at the target when firing. To make things worse, because G&G are special, they made their version of the L85A2 outer barrel unthreaded so I can't fit a tracer to just walk my BBs onto the target and I have to use the optic. I have a smaller, and slightly lower, RMR styled 20mm RIS red dot that i'll try next time but in the mean time if any L85 owners have any suggestions, i'm all ears.

Once I realised the L85 wasn't going to be an option I changed out to my MP9 as I had such fun with it last time and this time was no different. Quality bit of kit, I think i'll be using sub-guns at indoors sites from now on as it's just so much easier to move through the tighter spaces. Trying to move around doorways with my Mk18 with the 12" handguard is a pain.

Many grenades were thrown during a game of 'main street' and the enemy team apparently had some cases of brown trousers.

  2. Does anyone have experience with, or know anything about, the BO Dynamics P90? It's King Arms OEM and they upgraded it with a MOSFET but IDK what they used exactly.

Can't seem to find much of anything on the internet about this and their own website doesn't have it listed, I assume it's because they're that old. I can only assume it's a simple MOSFET to protect the trigger contacts and let you use 11.1v safely rather than having any special functionality. All i've found about the King Arms P90s is that they're probably the best of the P90s before you get to Krytac and G&G.

  3. I have the Earmor M20-T which are the ear-plug style ones. It has outside mode (more sound amplification), indoor (less sound amplification) and silent (no amplification). They cut out loud sound very well for only being ear plugs. I tested them in my garage with a 9mm blank and they cut out all of the 'loudness' of noise while it's still audible but safe enough for your hearing.

Do the Earmor M32 totally cut out all sound when they detect something loud or do they just reduce it? I'm asking as I have an unknown brand headset which totally cuts out all audio when something is too loud rather than just reducing it.

I'm coming to believe that all of the posts at airsoft-hub should get flagged as "suspicious". Isn't that the site that had what purported to be a real Glock 17?

[EDIT} no, usedairsoft, and it's still there.  So airsoft-hub at least wins out in allowing flagging of dodgy deals, not that anything ever seems to get done about them.

    https://www.usedairsoft.co.uk/two-tone-replicas/glock-17-m-o-s-gen-5-in-9mm-like-new_i47256

Given that the images have been taken from another site, it's likely just a scam. Impressive that it's not been taken down though.

  5. I believe this is a Zero One G33 Style flip-to-side 3x Magnifier. The magnifier itself is actually pretty clear without any noticeable warping/deformation at the edges but the eye box is really tight. Not all that bothered about it's downsides, I bought it for looks rather than functionality. I'll have to try slapping it on a rifle and seeing how well it works for spotting. Picked it up for £15 which a good deal when they're £75 RRP.

I run a Vapex 9.9v 1000mah LiFe with a Warhead motor and can do 4000+ rounds on it in the foregrip.  I have the battery under the barrel and between the gas block and the trigger group, but as LiFe seems to be more stable than LiPo I’m not envisaging having to get the battery out sharpish

Thanks for the info, i'll have to have a look into the size of that battery. Did you put the battery in the handguard then install it or is it thin enough to slide down the sides of the barrel?

  7. Evike in the US. They also have the ICS adapter blocks.

AirsoftZone in Europe. They didn't use to ship to UK due to Brexit but it looks like they are now.

    eHobby Asia.

As previously mentioned, you will need the ICS specific adapter block/piece. Which looks like this.

From personal experience, you may have trouble fitting a battery into that handguard. I've had to resort to using a PEQ battery box on top of the handguard.

  8. Need a valuation if possible. I've had people wanting to buy and/or trade for this but i'm not sure what it's worth in that situation. In total I think I paid around (a rough guesstimate) £750-£800 retail for the RIF, parts, accessories etc.

    • G&G L85A2 ETU.
    • Perun ETU++.
    • Daniel Defence Handguard.
    • B&T Dovetail to RIS optic rail.
    • Bipod/grip.
    • PEQ Battery box with 2 batteries.
    • Sling included.
    • Shooting 340-345fps, chrono results included.
    • Blowback is still functional.
    • Never been skirmished.
    • I have a bunch of upgrade parts i've not installed yet like a new stainless inner barrel, bucking, nub and a whole compression set.

    Cheers.

I have no clue where AirsoftPro falls on the lineup of Tawain/China/HK, but they all have different specs, courtesy of the wonderful airsoft industry.

It's a 1:1 copy of the stock A&K hop unit but CNC aluminium. IIRC A&K is a Chinese brand.

Prommy should fit as well (I’d recommend purple), but they tend to be kinda expensive.

I managed to find a Prommy purple (just in case I fuck up adjusting the ML hop rubber) and the pack of soft/hard flat nubs for £24. Will be a nice backup and if not needed just sit in my spares until next time :)

For a nub, I usually just use a piece of 8mm tubing cut into a rectangular patch, glued to the hop arm. This creates a concave contact patch and ultimately a similar effect to an MR. Hop that works with any rubber and barrel. You can adjust the height by either sanding it or adding layers of tape. Or you can simply cut your own nub out of hard plastic using small files. It can be flat or concave, either works. Then attach it to your hop arm (maybe sand the hop arm flat), with superglue.

That's a nice bit of info going forward, cheers.

  10. Hop unit options for MP5s are extremely limited and i've not found a company who make an aftermarket one. When I (or my tech) broke my G&G one, I just replaced it with the same one and it's been fine ever since. If yours ever breaks, email G&G directly and they'll sell you one, they're a nightmare to find in the wild.

If you want a quick boost to range/accuracy, you need to look at the bucking and nub. I use a Maple Leaf Macaron 60 degree (yellow) with Omega nub in mine (and most of my AEGs) and it's great. As for barrel, mine came with one of those ultra crappy aluminiuml (i'm not sure what it's made of) inner barrels and the coating on the outside was starting to crack and flake. If yours is a brass one, try giving it a polish like @Leo Greer says or go straight for a stainless steel one. As I linked in a previous reply, the ZCI ones are about £20 and unless you're on a super tight budget, this is a worthwhile change.

As for motor, sure, a high torque motor is never a bad idea if you want better trigger response but it won't improve much outside of that IIRC.

Mk23 from Action Hobbies boneyard for £17 - just have to remove the franken-jobbed mp5 stock.

And a set of 3d print furniture for a Mk23 bought on ebay for £31.

So gives me something else for an opfor loadout for not a lot of money (once I scrape the glue and stock off)

I wondered who bought that abomination!

  12. @Lozart @Adolf Hamster

Thanks for the insight, i've never ran into this issue so it's a new one for me and all the previous ML stuff i've used has just worked a treat. I've got two ML MR Hop 70 degree buckings so I might try "adjusting" the lips of the bucking to see if I can improve feeding.

As for the PDI W-hold, the stock bucking looks pretty similar in it's contact patch/mound shape.

I'm at a bit of a loss as for what other buckings/nubs to use in a flat-hop setup (if I screw up fixing my current buckings). I know Prommy/Laylax sell a hard (red) flat hop bucking and the pack of two nubs but i've seen some forums posts elsewhere saying that Prommy purple is more than enough for 400-450fps with a hard flat hop nub.

  13. Back again and i'm moving in the right direction, FINALLY. I sat down this morning after mulling over my options and remembering someone having a somewhat similar issue with their AEG being massively inconsistent and it turned out their bucking was causing the issue. I stripped the rifle and disassembled the hop unit.

Here's what the hop unit looks like with the ML MR Hop rubber installed.

    867296160_MRHopinstalled.thumb.jpg.ce7b2c3cef787d354a7c4e2c02db3b08.jpg

I took the hop unit apart and compared it to the stock hop rubber as seen below. Apologies for the poor focus.

    1914479380_SizeComparison.thumb.jpg.b0780ae7739cecdb799cb17c6223e6e9.jpg

Interestingly the stock hop rubber is a few millimeters longer than the ML MR Hop rubber. I put the stock hop rubber into the hop unit and as you can see below, despite being longer, the feed lips(?) don't protrude into the hop unit as far.

    901825775_StockHopRubber.thumb.jpg.b9c9590b97089fbc9c6f09a01ee9f89b.jpg

    I PTFE taped the hop rubber and hop unit in keeping with my first attempt at assembling the hop unit just in case the PTFE was somehow causing my issues. I rebuilt the gun and went to test it on 0.2g BBs and then 0.36g BBs. Results are below;

    image.png.489cef0c1ac60a1f4fe15e11dbd4b32f.png

Now i'm getting somewhere! Interestingly the power has gone UP from before and, thankfully, it's consistent! I'm impressed that on 0.36g BBs i'm getting 3.2fps difference across 20 shots, that's probably my best yet of any of the AEGs i've worked on.

My issue now is; does this gun require a different length or type bucking to work correctly or is possibly just the ML MR Hop rubber causing issues? As for the power it's producing, i'm aware it's well short of the 420fps on 0.2g BB (313fps on 0.36g)/1.64Joule limit i'm looking for and I do have an M150 spring kicking around in my spares box somewhere. I would have slapped it into the gearbox but my screwdriver fell to bits on me this morning and i'll have to wait for another to arrive on Sunday which is a bit annoying but still... progress!

@Leo Greer I'd like to pick your brain over the hop rubber issue. Have you ever ran into anything like this before? Should I just try trimming the feed lips by a millimeter or two so it matches the stock bucking length when installed?

I usually like quiet guns, but something about the mp9 and how loud it is tickles me. Last time I used mine, the marshall said that it was weird because it sounded like it should be hot, but it was 0.8J. Plus whenever I flick it to full auto it turns heads 😂

I love it honestly. I was looking at slapping in one of the TNT Studios kits but they appear to be sold out almost everywhere in the standard 143mm length barrel and I don't want to go for a longer barrel as I like how short this is.

  15. Had a skirmish at District 23 last night with the MP9 (go see gun pics thread) that @Ronin0033 sold me and man that thing is awesome. It's loud as hell so everyone can hear you coming and the 48 round mags mean you have to be selective with your shots. Carrying 3 mags means I only ever had a regular M4 mid-cap on me at any time. The gun functioned almost flawlessly except once the bolt got jammed and took a few minutes of racking the bolt for it to release, I thought i'd broke it within 2 hours of play :D

It's shooting about 300fps on 0.2G BBs with the -50fps powerdown valve in it so I reckon i'll be changing the valve to the less severe power reduction one to squeeze the last bit of power from green gas. I was having so much fun with the MP9 I didn't even test the L85A2 i'd taken as well.

The gameplay was great, only had one issue with a guy blatantly not taking a hit but never had the issue again. The final game of the night (for me) was "main street" which is just the single corridor that splits the middle of the arena where the objective is to touch the opposing teams wall or kill their entire team butyou can tag in dead teammates. The problem the enemy team had is that they brought no grenades and I brought eight. In a best-of-five style match my team walked away 3-0 and I had one last grenade left.

I also tested some new Magflash samples sent by @Tugger which were amazing. They had no sparks but were blindingly bright. Unfortunately they left a lot of tough residue on the floor of the site so the marshall said these versions wouldn't be allowed sadly. Hopefully @Tugger can adjust the mixes so that it doesn't leave a lot of residue.

That their pneumatic blowback shenanigans that's one mahoosive air leak waiting to happen?

Mine has it too. Makes a half-decent *clink* noise when firing but i've got mine on 13:1 so sometimes, in auto, it literally can't keep up. I understand why people hate it though.

    would any ZCi tightbore work?

where is everyone buying upgrades from?

ZCI inner barrel works fine in my G&G MP5A4. Personally I bought mine from TheCageAirsoft but they're out of stock in the 240mm inner barrel you need (stock length is 233mm). BombUpAirsoft have one in stock here. As for where to buy upgrade parts, it's not so simple. I tend to buy them from a few different places simply because lots of places are out of stock of different things.

If you're going to upgrade the inner barrel i'd suggest doing to the bucking and nub at the same time. I use a yellow (60 degree) Macaron and Omega nub.

  17. The hop unit from AirsoftPro arrived and was installed. Went in like a treat with none of the issues from the Wiitech one. What I didn't do is change the nozzle to the AirsoftPro one because I was short on time and just wanted to see if the hop unit fit.

I decided to do some testing to get some initial FPS readings and it's not good. The single highest FPS reading I got was 274.4fps on 0.36g (1.26joule) which is 368.3fps on 0.2g. In addition to the low FPS, it's also massively inconsistent with a ~50fps difference between the highest and lowest FPS reading. I'll have to go back into the gearbox and use the AirsoftPro loading ramp and nozzle to see if it makes a difference in the FPS in testing. The airseal from the compressions parts (with the nozzle on too) was great when I tested during installation so I know that's unlikely to be the issue. For reference; the limit on 0.36g is 313fps (420fps on 0.2g) or 1.64 joules. As long as i'm over 300fps on 0.36g with a max variance of 3-5fps i'll be happy.

Fixing the inconsistency is key in my mind. If the FPS was consistent but low, I wouldn't mind. Boosting FPS is easy through spring strength, it's the inconsistency that's got me wondering.

In other news; the spring guide for the A&K Masada SPR is a non-standard size. I ordered a QD bearing spring guide and that's also too big. I measured it with calipers and cannot find any spring guide with a similar size. I've also 'shimmed' the inner barrel to the outer and that thing is rock solid now, zero movement at all.
