    Comms headset: earmor

That's a great looking kit. I was wondering about your headset as i've also been looking for one that attaches to the rear mounts of my helmet and you happen to have exactly what I want. Personally, I don't need it for comms, more for aesthetics and the active hearing protection. Where'd you get it from? What's the sound quality like?

Good stuff. I will take the plunge with them I reckon. I did see on a review that they take some wearing in. And also new ones the timer is a little premature but settles to stated time after a little use. Good thing is as they are timed you dont need to lob them, a good low through or almost roll is sufficient for room clearing. Where did you buy them from? I noticed on the official website they are 85 I think but of you buy 2 they are a little over 60 each.

Fifewargames - they're out of stock on the official site and just about everywhere else when I was looking.

Edit: As of 1450 today Fifewargames are also out of stock.

Edit2: As of 24/1/23 they're back in stock, black only.

Thanks for the info. The do look well built. And from what I have read higher grade steel too.

Got them today due to a minor delay in delivery.

They feel good in the hand, wider/bulkier than most BFGs but fill the hand nicely. They're a hefty bit of kit, a good weight to them. The body is covered by a rubberised plastic type material that will soak the majority of impacts however the metal head is exposed and will take damage. 209 primers give a good loud bang. 9mm even more so. 12G are as previously discussed, as loud as .209 but a big ol puff of smoke to go with it.

Only issue i've found is that one of my two grenades was a bit finnicky with the pins and required a fair bit of 'use' before it wore in enough to be acceptable. The other was totally fine out of the box. I can only guess there were some tighter tolerances during the making of the 2nd grenade. After extensive use i'd imagine it'll be fine.

Tested .209, 9mm and 12G with both and they work like a charm. That 3/4 second fuse is not as long as you think :D

Never seen these before. Just checked them out. They seem good. May invest in some of these. I imagine the shot shell blanks are fucking loud!

I liked them mostly because the spoons are fixed which means no lost spoons or buying replacements. As for noise, i've tested 12G blanks with other BFGs and they're barely any louder than .209 and they're definately not louder than any other single-use pyro I own. Only difference is the 12G blanks just emit a big puff of smoke when they go off. I legitimately think that the 9mm blanks are louder than the 12G ones. 12G blanks are just that much more expensive than 9mm or .209 that it's not worthwhile to be honest which is probably why most newer BFGs only cater to .209 primers like the Quake 8 etc.

    12G blanks are £15 for 10. £1.50 a bang.

    9mm/.380 blanks are £18 for 50. £0.36 a bang.

    .209 blanks are £8 for 100. £0.08 a bang.

  5. 2x Swat VTG. Been looking for some timed re-usable pyro for indoors games but they were always out of stock everywhere and the used ones were completely battered, some even had chunks missing from the bodies of the grenades. They should arrive tomorrow, can't wait to test them out.

FifeWargames look like they had a small restock of Swat VTGs but they're only in black so I may have to find some luminous paint or bands so I don't lose them in a dark corner.

  6. What a kick in the nuts, 10 months without and for nothing.

Personally, i've just had my RIF back from the guys at 'The Cage Airsoft' and they were fantastic the whole time. From dropping off my RIF to collecting it, total time was around 2 weeks. While I haven't skirmished with it yet, test firing new magazines in the garage has been promising and I cannot wait to field it.

  7. I've noticed that the level of bastardry tends to increase with HPA players but it definitely isn't limited to them. I've seen plenty of cuntery with all other types of guns/power sources in my limited time playing from people not taking hits to overshooting and everything inbetween.

It sounds like the field is poorly run, especially if they're not locking the valves/regulators post chrono with clearly identifiable and difficult to remove tags. As others have mentioned, i've seen optics/lights etc smashed/cracked/damaged by 1.1j AEGs.

I have a Cyma mp5k where all I've changed is the hop rubber and nub and it's now slinging .32s to a silly range

Interesting. Does your field have BB weight limits for full auto guns as one of mine does. They'll only allow you to use 0.28g BBs on full auto guns as maximum. Not entirely sure why as you're still limited to 1.13joule but heyho.

Thanks for the longer post, it's always good to get some extra info from knowledgeable people. Cannot wait to get my G&G MP5 back from the tech who started working on it today.

If anyone is looking for small mock surpressor airsoftworld are selling these. It's cheap and you might get a traser too.

    https://www.airsoftworld.net/isoft-t-1000-tracer-unit-suppressor-14mm-ccw.html

Just so happened to pick one of these up as my recent procurement of an MP5 had no muzzle attachment, just bare threads. My logic was that this thing actually works out cheaper than buying an actual muzzle attachment from almost anywhere.

It arrived today and it appears to work. When I drop a BB through the unit it flashes a white light (I thought tracer units use UV light?) and the BB has some very faint glow. Not sure if it's the unit that's crap or the BBs. Either way I don't really care. £7.50 for a mock surpressor is a win in my books.

  10. Thanks for the input, especially on the MOSFET side of things. I've shot an email to a local tech/store who just so happen to stock both of the MOSFETs you mentioned. I've detailed that I would like the original battery connections swapping to deans and fuse removing if possible so i'll see what they come back with. Soldering & mosfet installs are over my head.

I only intended on changing the gears because the ones in the gun must be stock and are already showing signs of wear. Might as well change them given how inexpensive a new set is.

@Tactical Pith Helmet I did intend to install everything sequentially for this very reason in case I buggered anything up.

  11. Thanks for the reply and the input.

    So my current upgrade list i'm looking at is;

    • High torque motor ~£35
    • High speed gears - 16:1 or lower IIRC ~£20
    • Hardwired MOSFET - A Perun or Gate Aster? A recommendation here would be helpful ~£70
    • Changing battery connection to deans and fuse removal which should be simple enough ~£ however much some deans connectors and wires cost.
  12. Hi everyone.

I've recently acquired an G&G MP5A4 which, from what I can find, is only supposed to run on 7.4v LiPos. When taking it apart to address a different issue I found that the gun is fused with a fuse like you'd find in a plug socket. I checked the fuse over but couldn't find a rating on it. After a bit of internet searching, 20Amp is supposed to be standard. Would it be possible to run this gun on 11.1v LiPo safely or does it absolutely require a MOSFET to avoid damaging the trigger contacts or will the fuse pop before that happens? I can pick up a super basic Gate X-ASR MOSFET for £20. I want to run on 11.1v as the 7.4v just feels sluggish.

    Thanks for the input.

  13. Spotted in my local airsoft group; a G&G MP5-A4 with EBB and 7 magazines, 6 midcaps and 1 hicap. Initially it was £80 but when going to test it before buying, the gun is jammed up. It clicks and sounds like the motor is trying to work but the gear box is locked tight apparently. Rear drum sight is damaged and flash hider is missing. Dropped the price to £50. Interestingly, the hop up adjustment is a linear/sliding type. Not seen that before.

Going to try and remedy the locked up gearbox over the weekend. Thankfully the gun is easy to strip and i'm sure it uses a standard V2 gearbox which should be simple enough to work on. I found a good video showing a full disassembly of the same gun. Hopefully all the parts are okay however the fire selector was loose so I suspect someone has already been inside it. I'm hoping that they've just got the motor screwed too high and it's stopping the gears spinning which is possible from what i've read.

UPDATE: The gun works! I unscrewed the motor all the way and incrementally screwed it back in until it engaged and cycled the gun then fine tuned it a bit more from there however it was still fairly 'whiney'. It's only running on 7.4v lipo so it's slower than what i'm used to but it still sounds poor. I disassembled the gun to find that the base of the gearbox hadn't been closed properly from whoever was in there previously. After opening and inspecting it looks like the gears have (what i'd assume is) normal wear, they don't looked stripped/snapped/chipped or damaged excessively. The tappet plate looks like it's taken some hits (it's plastic) but this is easily fixed, same with the gears. I reassembled the gearbox (even got the case closed properly) and reassembled the gun. It actually sounds less 'whiney' than before so I must have done something right. Will look into getting a new gearset and tappet plate and try my hand at shimming it on payday.

It's my fave site so far of the 3 I have played at. It's very well laid out with the entire site being 2 stories with bridges joining the upstairs of different buildings. A few cars kicking about etc. And well thought out cover points. For an indoor site is still very much a 360⁰ field. You always want to be aware of enemies from any direction. It is very professionally  run and they are strict on safety and all the things you want to be strict. Sundays are the best days. Their website doesn't appear to be managed well. The current rules on pyro is BFG and ringpull style frags are allowed which they sell on site for around a 5er a pop. Give me a shout if you do head there. I'll try and make it along. Would be good to meet up with another AFUK member.

I have just bought a bunch of these FBS M38 Multibangs (vid related) which are twist off and strike. Reckon they'd be allowed? Or would I have to change out for different ones? They're great fun and surprise the shit out of people when they go off multiple times. It'll be a while before I head up there, my current schedule at work has me working an unfair amount of weekends. Do their Sundays last all day or is just morning/afternoon sessions?

@MrTea Thanks I will bear that in mind. I have seen the grips. Tempted to go stealth and get some black ones. But the blue is kinda growing on me.

You're thinking the same way I did. I was going to change the blue out for black seeings as they're only £20-ish and then held off. How's District 23 in Billingham? Been thinking about doing a walk on there before the end of the year. They have a rule on their site saying pyro is allowed but no 'percussive grenades' are allowed. I can only assume only spring powered grenades are allowed and not regular 'hot' pyro which is kinda sad.

You can have a great game 5 v 5 with the right set up/rules.  Hope they sort the site for the reduced numbers.  One game day a month is crap if it clashes with other things.

There does seem to be a drop in player numbers noted in  few posts of late.

I'd go out on a limb and suggest the cold rainy weather is the issue despite skin being waterproof :)

The site at NTAC has a good but small CQB area they call "little mexico" but they also have another smaller killhouse styled area that doesn't get used often and it's completely disconnected from "little mexico" area which is annoying but the ground/hills will only give them so much space to work and I suspect they've had to do as best they can with the terrain.

  17. Another day at NTAC.

Complete opposite to the last visit despite the cold combined with drizzle/light rain. First time with new bucking, nub and barrel in my LVOA.

First game was attacking and defending a hill with trenches. We defended well but failed on the attack. Got a fair few kills and surprised by some of the longer ranged kills I managed to get however my BBs appear to be hooking right so I may need to double check the fitment of my nub in case it's sitting slightly uneven or off to one side. Might even try a Prometheus flat hop nub. Ate shit when I stepped back and fell into fucking trench, luckily only a marshall and one other saw my pride smash into smithereens.

Second game was 'capture the flags' with 7 flags in the CQB area. Had good fun throwing about pyro and some good kills on the attack and defence, especially getting shot to shit against one guy holed up in a tiny single entrance room that contained the last flag. The level of gameplay was one of the highest i've had minus one guy and another rental blind firing. The rental I can forgive however the other guy appeared to be a one off after I swore loudly enough for the marshall to turn his head. Other than a couple of kids generally playing like they were going to be hit real bullets, the day was great.

Only real negative about the day was that it ended at lunch due to players leaving. The couple of rentals left (can only assume they were half day) and the a lot of others left too. Again, assuming they had stuff they needed to do being the time of year. It left around 10 players. We decided to bail as 5v5 wasn't going to be our thing.

On a somewhat related note; the site have since posted an update saying they'll no longer accept bookings without payment due to 10+ players not confirming for the next (or both) day(s) and confirmed player numbers were so low, it'd be pointless and they had to cancel. They're now talking about going back to one weekend per month during the winter which I totally understand but it is a shame. They did however talk about using some weekends to rebuild some areas for lower player number days which would be great because it's definately the type of game I prefer. I just wish they'd have some areas that are more than ground floor and build another storey to their CQB area but that requires a lot more work.

Went to my local District 23 last night and as I pulled up the first thing I saw through the shop door was this CZ shadow 2.

    20221112_154443.thumb.jpg.6403c9dcf02223f34330343a4f6cc45a.jpg

Been eying one up for ages, and it was the only one they had and in the colour i wanted so... I think it was inevitable that it was coming home with me. Never got chance to use it last night though as they had no Co2 left. But hey ho. Still mega happy.

If the slide randomly sticks when travelling forward after a shot, it needs a light tap to let the slide close fully. Don't worry too much about it. Mine took around 10 magazines to 'break in' and yesterday it only got stuck once and reset easily. You can buy different coloured grips if you want to change them later on down the line.

  19. I'm back after installing the bucking, nub and prometheus 6.03mm barrel.

I picked up a chrono just to make sure I wasn't over any limits before I played with the upgrades. I tested it today after running about ~500 bbs through the gun. Using 0.28g BBs (without any hop applied (see pictures)) i'm getting a consistent 275-280fps range. Using a conversion table, this is sitting just over 1.0Joule and is around 325-330fps on 0.2g BBs. This is fine.

When applying hop, I found that the fps drops dramatically on setting 10 of 15. When I say dramatically I saw around 90-100fps loss when using 0.28g BBs. I understand applying hop increases friction to apply spin and will reduce FPS but surely not this much? Unfortunately I don't have enough space to adjust hop properly until I get to my local field and fine tune it then. Could it be that I was applying an excessive amount of hop and gripping the BB too much?

Any ideas welcome and i'm sorry I didn't get pics of chrono with hop applied.
