I realise these aren’t on the list, and definitely don’t fall into the cheap bracket, but I have some Lowa Zephyr ahi’s (there is a Mid option) and they’re exceptionally comfortable and have stood up well to being used in the woods and in CQB. The only thing I’d change is for them to be leather rather than suede for boggy and muddy conditions, but they’ve been excellent in the snow and the heat.

The bit where the spring on the underneath of that box sits snapped on mine so I replaced the whole thing. Is there a way we could change the whole thing for an optical switch?
-
Mine did not like fast gears (12:1) and would lock up on semi unless I absolutely made sure to pull all the way back on the trigger and reset, which slowed down my semi ROF to the point a standard set of gears made more sense. I’ve got to check my ROF with the Warhead motor, but I reckon it’s somewhere around 18rps which is more than adequate for what I need. In Semi it goes fast enough and is only marginally slower than my GBB MP7. The normal Warhead (the bronze ones) are excellent too, I was just being a tart

Seconded on the Warhead Motor. I’ve got a Black Standard in there and it really made it come alive.

Which gnu gnext? My GBBR love affair must continue
Duff Beer replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Gas Guns
I’ve spoken about the VFC MP7 ad nauseam, but suffice to say I love mine. There are a couple of bits to watch out for; the stock catch WILL fail so buy the Crusader Steel one immediately, and watch out for the tiny grub screws on the selector switches and bolt release. Mine’s had about 20k rounds through it (which with 40rnd mags is a lot) and with the exception of the stock catch has run like clockwork. -
£449 from DK Armaments new for the rifle, then £123 off Amazon for the SUSAT makes £572 in my book…

I thought the downsides outweighed the positives, so I went with a 9.9V LiFe instead. At the time I wasn’t comfortable with the low voltage puffing or the risk of fire, and with LiFe both are reduced.

ICS is a nice way to go for L85’s if you can live with the weird trigger switch. I’ve done lots to mine, but if I had a proper look in the mirror all it really needed was the Warhead motor, English Kiwi Hop, and a spring. It runs a V2 gearbox for bits so they’re easy to get hold of. I had a Star L85 which I absolutely loved, but I wore the thing out with about 250k rounds through it and a new ICS was cheaper than a complete overhaul of the Star (now Ares). The only issues I had with the Star in all of it’s time was a tappet plate and a motor, both of which I expect to go with that amount of use and abuse.

All things being equal (wiring, temperature, play style) the choice of motor you’re using will affect the battery life hugely too. This video on YouTube goes through a whole load of motors and show how many shots they could get out of a 1000mah battery (start the video at 42:18), and I bought a Warhead Black Standard as a result. I use a 1000mah battery, and usually do about 2000 rounds a day, and the battery usually takes about 10-15mins to charge which suggests I’m using about 25% battery life.

I’ve got mine sitting under the barrel at the bottom of the foregrip with the wires and connectors around the gas tube (so I can flip the cover up to access them). If it fits where the gas tube is on yours then there’s no reason to not put it there. The issue you’re going to have whichever way you go is where to put the connectors and how to access them.

LiFe batteries are easier to live with. They don’t do any of the negative things LiPo’s do if they’re over-discharged or punctured. I went with LiFe purely because I can charge it in the foregrip without worrying about fire as it would be impossible to get it out in time. At 9.9V it sits between a 7.4V and 11.1V for RoF and trigger response. The major downside of LiFe is the energy density as LiPo’s will give more power for the same size, but 1000mah on a 9.9V is more than enough to have acceptable RoF and endurance
-
Tell a lie, it’s a 1000mah. https://www.vapextech.co.uk/99v-1000mah-lifepo4-battery-vapextech-crane-20c-airsoft-1leg I also changed the motor to a Warhead Black (Standard) which did wonders for battery life and trigger response, as the standard motors very thirsty and not the fastest. I probably get through about 2000-3000 rounds in a day, and I’ve never had the battery drop below 50%.

I haven’t got the A3, but a 9.9V LiFe 1100mah fits in the Madbull Daniel Defence on my A2 which is super tight on space. Looking at the A3 foregrip it looks like there’s similar space

OneTigris helmet - eye protection suggestions needed
Duff Beer replied to boskee's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
^absolutely agree You can’t go wrong with Revision; they’re rated to stop a shotgun so they’ll be fine for anything we go against. That’s my setup above. They’re Revision Sawfly’s with the clear lenses over the prescription insert. The lenses are extremely well made so don’t have any distortion. The helmet is a PTS MTEK Flux, and there’s adequate room for the mesh mask to not cover the mic’s on the hearing protection. Whilst there’s a tiny gap in skin protection on my forehead, the chances of getting hit there instead of the rest of me are minimal so I’m happy with the reduced risk. -
I’d be all over a reliable Hipower in an instant. The WE’s are notorious for being a bit pants.
-
Exhibit A is that they have never done a Hi Power Mk III. Could you imagine how many they’d sell? Edit: Or a new Famas

There is a Madbull one for sale in the classifieds at the moment…
-
+1 Ultrair doesn’t have any lube in it so it’s good for hop consistency. I’ve used it in freezing conditions in the MP7 without issue, though in pistols it’s definitely a 10°C or higher gas
-
That looks like a ‘proper’ DD rail rather than the Madbull/Airsoft version. I’ve got the Madbull version with the adapter on my ICS L85 and it fits snugly but well edit: The screw that holds the grip in place on the base of the grip on the Madbull version is vertical rather than the 45° that your grip is showing

I don’t know why, but it saying “In Stock” really tickles me. Of course it is, it’s £700! Nobody’s going to pay £700 for it

Two red dot sights on the blink...
Duff Beer replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Good shout, I looked at the Vortex as well. The only reason I went for the 403B over Vortex was the shake to wake because I’m a lazy so-and-so, but both are very good. -
I use the 0.25’s on the MP7 and P8, and 0.28’s in the L85. I find them both to be consistent. Groupings are a bit tighter than I would expect, and I really appreciate that there aren’t any fliers. The 0.25’s remind me a bit of Excel 0.23’s which were my go-to back in the day, and the 0.28’s aren’t far off the 0.29 SGM’s that I’ve got a stash of for the L96

I realise it doesn’t answer your question directly, but if you’re looking for recommendations for a decent sight as a replacement you can do far worse than a Holosun 403B. I’ve got one on the MP7 and it’s had about 3000 rounds through it without skipping a beat. It’s been used in 35° heat and -5° cold without issue, and it’s been clattered off walls in CQB. I’d definitely recommend a front lens protector though as having it shot out is an expensive day! Being a proper optic there’s no parallax so if you’ve got something capable of accuracy and consistency the shot will land where you put the dot regardless of whether you can have the perfect cheek weld or not. Between that and the MP7 I was able to consistently shoot helmets and hands peeking round doors at 15m (perfect for CQB ranges), but also through slim gaps and tight angles. I saw one in the classifieds recently for about £150 which is okay, but they’re £180 new so the warranty might be worth the extra? -

Those pouches are exactly what I’m looking for, but in OD!
