This is not meant to be a definitive graph but just a snapshot of my current understanding for peer review/critique, if anyone wants to share data that can prove or disprove otherwise that'd be great, cheers

I heard some fields in the US have a 30 RPS limit, not sure how common this is
-
Luckily I think the VCRA is pretty robust and the airsoft industry self-regulates very well and so the law is not like to be changed very easily
-
Well the court doesn't just do anything they want, they follow the guideline, and an overpowered RIF would still be a Type 3 weapon despite the technical definitions under Firearms Act, so really going overpowered does not really mean much by itself, but the reason of it being overpowered would be (e.g. if you modified it because of intention to cause property damage vs if it is a technical fault of your chrono)

It depends entirely on the circumstances, see Charging Guidance in https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/firearms There is an element of Public Interest Considerations, "if contravention is technical and there has been no risk to public safety" then prosecution may not be required https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/sentencing-and-the-council/about-sentencing-guidelines/about-published-guidelines/firearms-offences/ Say you are somehow found carrying a >1.3J RIF in public place https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/crown-court/item/firearms-carrying-in-a-public-place/ Since it is still shy of imitation firearm and not belonging in any other category it would be a Type 3 weapon, Lower culpability if you are not really trying to use it, so Culpability category C, and Category 3 harm (no harm/minimal risk), so you would get a fine or discharge (court finds you guilty but does not give you a sentence because the offence is very minor). But that can only happen if somehow you are carrying it outside without good reason and somehow getting arrested and then prosecuted So again, it depends entirely of the circumstances, and if you are a sensible person you won't be able to get yourself into insensible circumstances very easily

Ackchually in the UK I don't think there is ambiguity between the 1.3J or 2.5J, because it is simply down to the capability of semi only vs 2 round bursts or more I was just wondering if the US doesn't have legal limits, what factors are going into how do they decide on their field limits Edit: if I misunderstood your post, I think in both cases whether 1.3J or 2.5J it becomes a "lethal barrelled weapon" And if the projectile is not an wholly plastic spherical missile with diameter less than 8mm, it also becomes a "lethal barrelled weapon" above 1J

"Water pistols" next on the naughty list?
Pseudotectonic replied to Rogerborg's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
In that story, to my eye at least, that particular gel blaster visible in the photos would be an RIF because it isn't a principally bright unrealistic colour. Which actually explains why the RIF definition exist in the first place, if it is realistic to a certain degree, it can cause a lay person to consider it as a real firearm thus prompting the police to act accordingly. And having an IF or RIF in public would be a Section 19 offence of Firearms Act i.e. it is an offence for a person to have with them in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse [...] an imitation firearm. I think the critical factor here is that those water pistols do look like a glock, and that gel blaster a uzi, or could be mistaken as one by someone not familiar with what a uzi looks like (such as me). -
"Water pistols" next on the naughty list?
Pseudotectonic replied to Rogerborg's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
There is only this water pistol on sale that is specifically in the combinations and options of "blue and white, or pink and white" (not transparent blue, or blue and clear transparent, or translucent blue... notice the use of word white but not clear nor transparent) It seems Daily Mail would agree: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12649945/Pictured-Water-pistol-black-boy-rammed-bike-armed-police-claims0racially-profiled.html If you look at the amazon review pictures you can find some actual photos (see below), the pink one we can call it an IF because it is a bright pink, but the blue one is 100% definitely an RIF I suspect this fact is going to emerge in due course and amazon is going to apply to UKARA as registered retailer -
"Water pistols" next on the naughty list?
Pseudotectonic replied to Rogerborg's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I find it strange that none of these news has the actual picture of the actual water pistol in question, so we will never know how exactly brightly coloured it is "blue and white and one was pink and white" does not really say anything I mean for example these water pistol from amazon has a blue and white option, and a pink and white option, and they are arguably rather realistic looking https://www.amazon.co.uk/Electric-Pistol-One-Button-Sprayer-Blaster/dp/B0BWND47S7 Edit: I would go on to say the blue one qualify as RIF because the blue one is not a "bright blue", and white is not an "unrealistic colour" under VCRA Edit: I mean look at the product video on that page, it is a rather dark dull blue colour, it not exactly unrealistic -
I wonder if the site insurance has any input into a field's rule limit (in the US) or is it up to each field's management?

The (UK) airsoft definition is well defined in law measured by the plastic BB diameter and joule limit, so it is not something that needs to be tested in court, usually it is the more vague items with less clear interpretation that needs to be tested, so if it is over the limit, it is considered a firearm. How you will get prosecuted is another matter because I don't think police do door-to-door chrono checks of every toy gun in an area. By the way I find it interesting that there is no RPS limit in law. If you manage to fire a stream of BB at legal limit but at a fast enough RPS or large amount enough at the same time, you can definitely do some damage to person, in which case it would become a GBH or murder case, but not a firearms case because it is still airsoft!

Solink Brushless Motor for Airsoft AEGs Review
Pseudotectonic replied to Ranger's topic in Accessory Reviews
Are the speed difference a difference in coil winding or just limited by electronics? I mean if the winding is any different it would be interesting to see their differences in torque specs -
spray alcohol on it, alcohol will mix with the moisture and make it evaporate faster

Can you post the form, or what exactly have you been asked? -
Fire upside down and without mags, just drop a BB into the feeding hole, does it fire normally?
-
delayer chip?

does the nozzle actually fit the hop unit?

But slower FPS equal shorter range, if FPS doesn't affect range then pistols would be shooting the same as a sniper
-
Say you have a gun, with a 400mm barrel, and you chop it into a 200mm barrel or 100mm barrel or 30mm or 10mm barrel, you will see an FPS drop (probably not linearly), therefore you will have a little less range from that lower FPS, until eventually you reach 0.1mm barrel where the BB would have lost so much FPS it will have little speed and just drop to the floor in front of you within a few meters and it will have lost so much accuracy it will be dropping left and right in front of you in a rather large spread pattern
-
But surely joule creep also happens with AEG?
-
Why? How?
-
A longer barrel will shoot more fps than a short barrel with everything else the same because the BB has more runway to accelerate Heavier BB requires less runway to fully accelerate hence there is this thing called joule creep where it shoots more joules when switching to a heavier BB
