This is a question for which the answer might seem obvious. However it doesn't appear to be quite as simple as saying GHK, no contest. GHK guns are no less trouble free than other gbbrs, and parts might not be so easy to source. I understand that straight from the get go you have to tamper with the magazine lips or something. And their mags are horrifically expensive. Yes they are the best looking of all AKs but that comes at a hefty price. I believe Luke from Negative Airsoft has recommended WE for gbbrs because they are cheap, work well enough from new and are as accurate as any other gbbr. Parts are widely available and he recommends replacing when they go with WE replacements. I know there are people who don't like RA tech steel parts because they are not always easy to fit and encourage you to buy other RA tech parts to work with them. I looked at a website recently that sells both guns. The WE is only about £120 less than the GHK. And you can buy the WE with upgraded parts that take it up to the same price as a GHK - over in some cases. Why would anyone do this if the GHK is so good? I am an occasional user who doesn't make any of his guns work hard, and the cheaper WE with WE replacement parts when components fail seems like the way to go. Coul anybone tell me if the WE receiver made of pressed steel like the GHK, or just pot metal? Either way it wouldn't be a deal breaker. Just for your information, If I were looking for an M4 I would not choose either of these brands. I would go for a TM MWS. It would be a no brainer for me. But I am not excited about the forthcoming TM AK gbbr. I am sure it performs brilliantly, but I have seen one and it was too clean and tidy for an AK. I know all airsoft guns are toys, but the TM one really looks like a toy.

That is because the WE glock was copied from the TM one which has the polymer outer barrel and slide. Since polymer bends the outer barrels didn't break in the TM one. The WE one is pot metal and tends to snap. However there is a simple fix commonly applied in the US that many Brits don't seem to be aware of. I have used it on my WE Glocks. https://imgur.com/a/4Mnjt8f This modification allows the barrel to drop further taking pressure off it from the movement of the slide. It also minimises wear to top of the barrel block which normally gets scratched up pretty quickly.

I ask because the outer barrel isn't a particularly important part in terms of performance, and because the thought of a steel barrel rubbing against a pot metal or even CNC aluminium slide causes me concern. Wouldn't an aluminium outer barrel be more practical?

If you had to choose metal bodied M4 between a Cyma and one of the mid tier G&G's GC16 series, which would you go for?

WE gbbrs at great prices from Taiwan Gun Co. Scar L for about £226 G36c for only £146 Sometimes I wish we were still in the EU. But then sanity quickly returns.

Was watching Negative Airsoft's review of airsoft gun manufacturers recently. Cyma seems to be going from strength to strength, and he has positive things to say about some of the other Chinese brands: Double Bell, Double Eagle etc. Are the Cyma M4s better made now than they used to be? How does their pot metal and finish compare to that of the more premium brands?

Thanks for the replies. What about custom grip tape cut out for the hi capa? Can it just go over the factory TM grip finish, or does the grip need to be sanded first?

If I wanted to stipple my TM hi capa grip would I have to use a dremel to remove the not very good stippling pattern already on it from the factory, or could I just go over it. I am not thinking of fancy geometrical designs - just a simple small dot stipple. I imagine I would have to remove the pattern on the front of the grip, but what about the sides?

For indoor CQB I would take a decent pistol over a rifle any day.

Well somebody had to say it so I suppose it falls to me: TM hi capa. Simple single action mechanism means there isn't much to go wrong. And it is easy to fix if it does.

My Guarder tactical grip kit arrived today, and I have a quick question for those who know about these things. The Guarder hammer spring which comes fitted to the bottom insert in the grip appears to be stronger than the one in my original TM grip. My hi capa has an airsoft masterpiece metal slide, stainless steel inner barrel, reinforced nozzle and a 120% recoil spring (all other internal parts are stock), so I imagine the stronger spring should be OK, but I thought it best to check first. I know how important it is In gbb guns for everything to be in balance Can I use the Guarder spring or should I replace it with the TM one.

I had also considered the type of stand that supports the barrel rather than the grip, but they don't look as good, are often too low and rarely have provision to stop the grip from slipping. On the pistol grip display stands can the plastic grip of a hi capa manage to support the weight of the metal frame and slide, or will it weaken in time? I assume most polymers are tough enough, but don't know about the TM ABS.

I wonder if somebody could kindly explain how they work. I know it is all to do with a spring. What I don't know is whether the slot in the mag when engaged releases or compresses the spring. In other words, is the spring under compression when the mag is in the grip. Or does the mag itself first compress the spring as it slides into the grip and then release it? Sorry if it is a stupid question. I want to buy a pistol display stand which holds the gun solely by the grip. Some of these appear to grip the mag like the pistol grip does. Others don't. They appear to be shorter and don't engage the release mechanism, and serve only as a support for the weight of the gun. If the ones that grip the mag are keeping the spring under compression, they would weaken it over time, and would therefore not be a good way to store and display your pistol.

I'm trying to make my 5.1 look more tactical and less like a race gun. So I am waiting for retailers to get new stock of the Guarder tactical grip kit. But I also wondered: will the shorter beaver tail grip safety on the 4.3 fit the 5.1?

And most other hi capas come to that. First the grip. The TM one looks cheap to start with, but I also dislike the shape of most hi capa grips, the way they flare out at the bottom and benefit from having a magwell (I don't really like magwells either but they look better with one than without), and the shape of the trigger guard. The flat front of the trigger guard spoils the look of the gun in my humble opinion. Well it does for me anyway. I would like a hi capa that looks more like a para ordinance ie the general shape of a 1911 but with a thicker grip and mag. And that means that I would prefer a trigger guard rounded at the front. So I decided to treat myself to a Guarder black Tanio Koba tactical grip for Christmas. It looks like the one on the KJW 05 version of the hi capa. But nowhere in the UK has them. I started to look elsewhere but even abroad they are thin on the ground or only available in olive drab. And then I found one in a Polish online retailer called Spec Shop. So I ordered it and went to check out only to find the list of countries they ship to didn't include the UK. At first I thought it might have something to do with us leaving the EU. But both the US and Canada are on the list and they aren't in the EU either. And the box for selecting the English language on their sight actually has a Union Jack on it. The other thing I don't like on the Hi Capa is the bomar sight, again for aesthetic reasons. It is just an ugly big slab which spoils the lines of the gun and for airsoft pistols I see little need for adjustable sights in the first place. I much prefer the look of the 4.3 tactical sight, but there doesn't seem to be anything like it for the 5.1 unless you want to fork out for expensive night sights. For the sake of two fewer bbs I would also prefer to use the 4.3 mags. So what I really want is something that looks more like a 1911 but with extra gas and bb capacity. Pity nobody makes one. And it would be nice if manufacturers like Airsoft Masterpiece made metal slides for hi capas that looked more like classic 1911 slides. Not everyone wants weird shapes, fancy lettering and cut outs on a slide But I realise that since hi capas are so popular most people probably like the looks of them. I just wondered if anybody on here felt the same way as me.

Has anyone ever ground down the flat faced trigger guard on a hi capa to round it off and make it look more like a traditional 1911 trigger guard? If so, what sort of rotary tool attachment should be used? Sand paper type, I expect. And I assume removing bits of the black polymer will reveal a grey or white finish underneath. In which case which black paint would you recommend for touching it up? Grateful for any replies.
