  1. Or, run it until it breaks, then replace it? I'm running a notoriously weak Orion gearbox and Collapse-O-Bearings as an M140 / 1.8J DMR. It's unlikely to last, but... it is lasting.
  2. If I were rewiring again, I'd probably go to XT-30 or XT-60 instead of Deans, but Deans is pretty good too, and some airsoft guns are switching to it as standard now.
  3. Sure, a DMR just means a heavier spring and locked to semi. Anything beyond that is gravy and LARPing. I'd radius the gearbox, maybe think about a longer barrel and barrel extension, but even that's more about looks. On that, your local site(s) may be sniffy about a "5.56mm" DMR because, well, LARP.
  4. What sort of ranges are we talking? If it's a few tens of metres or less, then pretty much anything with a hop unit is viable. Any electric rifle with a metal gearbox, a gas pistol (non-blowback should be more efficient and consistent, blowback is much more fun), a bolt action sniper, or even a cheap pump action single barrel shotgun with a variable hop unit. You don't have to throw upgrade money at them, just clean the barrel and hop rubber and feed them the heaviest BBs that they'll hop. Just be aware that airsoft guns are never that consistent or accurate, and you'll always get the occasional flyer.
  5. Ah, right. Sorry to hear this, it's always a risk with Tamiya. And yes, Perun mosfets are pretty decent, I'd consider that an opportunity to do an upgrade.
  6. Guns so bad that even Nuprol won't sully their, er, brand reputation with them. Agreed, I'd avoid. They do work, but are sub 0.4J, and there's no much that you can do in practice to increase that. Mosfet / lipo versions or conversions have much better trigger response, but they're unsatisfying to shoot, with big bulky handgrips. Auto mode can be fun, but you'll likely be limited to semi-auto at the ranges these things can reach. That said, the CM.123 1911 takes the CM.127 Glock mags, including the extended ones, if you don't mind that sort of heresy, and the CM.121 Dessert Eegul is probably closest to the real steel dimensions. Hopefully someone can give some positive recommendations rather than negging.
  7. What gun is it? We'd just be guessing, and a very basic multimeter will take the guesswork out of it. Worse case, you can bin off all the electronics and just install a basic trigger switch. AK2M4 is fairly low on stock, but still has options for both V2 and V3: https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/trigger-switches
  8. Agreed, actually. We're not on a rehearsal, and it's not like it's going to lose much value even if it ends up as a garage queen.
  9. I'm surprised retailers would even stock no-frills guns at that price, unless... well, unless they can't get anything else, or everybody else is scaling their prices as well. 😟
  10. Or you can set up a stock alert at PatrolBase and wait and wait and... I'll mention that these will not fit MP5Ks - a few of us have had that bright idea, but couldn't figure out a way to make them work.
  11. Thanks, guys, I could have got them both for £100.
  12. For that money, I'd want Maxx Hoproom to show up personally and demonstrate the extra consistency, at an outdoor range, under whatever wind and weather conditions were prevalent at the time.
  13. Based on the information that you've provided, I might offer £50 each. This isn't meant to sound harsh, just realistic. I'd have to assume that they're largely intact but non-functional examples of cheap plastic trash from some BBGunz vendor. Better images of the logos might help, and any information that you can turn up about what they are.
  14. Sorry, nothing specific about that model, I won't touch Eyetalian because of the love-it-on-the-road, hate-it-in-the-workshop relationship that owners seem to have. (If you liked that video, check out the chap's channel which, unlike Eyetalian bikes or airsoft guns, is an exemplar of quality control.)
  15. He's surprisingly nuanced and affecting in The Foreigner. Actual genuine acting, I preferred his quiet scenes to the contractually required action.
  16. Shouldn't really run 0.12g, but [looks around shiftily] they can't all be market stall yellow, right? There really is. I ran it as tertiary on Sunday, and used it in a kill-house, hammer cocked in preference to rocking my Glock. Every point-blank hit with it was immensely satisfying even though most of them were trade-offs - which means the 6 shots isn't actually a problem. Less can be more.
  17. Per my review, it's a point-blank trinket only. It's a wonder that it shoots at all when you consider that there's hard plastic interfacing with the brass cartridges front and rear, with no rubber seals, under very little pressure. I'm seeing 0.3 - 0.5J out of it with the stock barrel. Adding a hop isn't an attempt to make it skirmishable, it really is just out of interest to see if it can be bodged in. Chances are I'll go back to the original barrel, pre-load the barrel spring, and grease the heck out of all the mating surfaces since I won't have to worry about contaminating a hop bucking.
  18. Well, rather to my surprise, that does actually appear to have an effect. Even at 6m garage ranges, there looks to be an upwards trajectory, although not hugely consistent. The BB nestles in the "hop" and needs some pressure to be pressed or blown through. Sure, the power is down to 0.2J, i.e. essentially spitball energies - there's just not enough puff or air seal there to make it viable. But the principle seems sound enough. Who'd have guessed?
  19. Hmm, I seem to be seeing a lot[1] of folk reporting "Warhead crapped out, but Ben@KO-Technologies is very sympathetic." A bit like how Acetech were OK about replacing my Lighter-S, but now the replacement is in bits on my Workbench of Perpetual Prevarication awaiting complete resoldering. At Warhead prices I'd be hoping for better results than being a beta tester, no matter how good the support. But such is airsoft, and being at the bleeding edge[2] of the performance envelope. [1] Two? Three? [2] i.e. about a decade behind RC.
  20. Rather illustrating my point there, chap. At the sites I've played which allow DMRs, the rules are either "1 shot per 2 seconds", or "1 in the air", which at DMR ranges effectively means a shot about every two seconds. You're baulking at limiting yourself to four times that fire rate. Sites are just kidding themselves about DMRs.
  21. I'm going to be brutally honest, I reckon I can see where the parts should go, but is this relationship worth putting the work in? I mean, really, how much commitment are we both feeling here?
  22. "Dear Diedre, I necked two bottles of crème de menthe at my sister's wedding, one thing led to another, and somehow I woke up as the support beam in an Uncle Bob and Cousin Ralph Eiffel Tower. Which one should I marry?" Sorry, chap, I can't find anything like an internal diagram for that. I'm vaguely aware that these things exist and shoot at a claimed 0.1J or so. I want to say... UHC UM-651? I'm coming up blank.
  23. Wait, are you saying that my 12 year old car with a full(ish) service history and covers on the seats isn't worth more than a brand new one? Do one, mate, I know what I've spent, and I know what it's worth all day long.
  24. Is the correct answer, and the one that should, all joking aside, be applied to "my Chinesium green laser is totally safe to shine in your eyes" claims.
  25. I'll try this version out first. The barrel can just be held in place while firing, so trial and error tuning should be viable.
