  1. Apologies if this is obvious, but please do be aware that being a pistol doesn't mean that it can ignore site MEDs if it's over 1.13J or whatever the site limit is for zero-MED. The BB doesn't care what it came out of, only the energy that it's carrying. My local CQB site is taking a dim view of long suppressors on all pistols now because they're sick and tired of folk "not realising" that barrel extensions can bump the fps over 350.
  2. That's a bit in the back of beyond. As far as I'm aware there's not much South of Elvanfoot, so you're looking at: Section 8 in Shotts, big site but mostly trees and ditches. Biohazard in Stevenston, who run one of those awful "justs aks us on Fasebook, m8" booking systems. Hammer 2 Operations in some undisclosed location out towards Ayr if they ever get restarted. And of course the Depot in Castlemilk, Glasgow, where you'll find the quality players. None of them re-opened yet, but even Nippy Sturgeon can't keep us locked down forever.
  3. Mmm, Charlize Theron. Little bit woke, but thematically sound - I do like me a good Eternal Champion tale. And I guess if you can't spring for a mid-cap, then it's at least good form to remove the winding wheel.
  4. I re-iterate: Louche and lush, will forgive the technical unlegality of the listing.
  5. This is a review of the Galaxy MP5K as stock. Pros: It's super cheap. Very light. 310fps out of the box. Comes with a 200 round hi-cap, a usable NimH battery and a burn-your-house-down charger. You can HK-slap it. Very nearly as handy as a pistol, with very nearly a carbine's range. Works well in CQB or as a sniper-secondary, if you've got the drop on your target. Takes pretty much any generic MP5 magazine: high, mid or real cap. The V3 gearbox is solid, and has no inherent issues. Will hop 0.25g. The full-auto ROF isn't too bad. Cons: The fire-selector is sloppy, and wants flipped to full them back to semi in order to click in. Might just barely hop 0.28g, but don't bet on it. The push-pull lever hop unit loves to slacken off, and needs tightening up, or cable tie the hop-arm to the barrel. Very plastic, lots of ping in the spring, and creak-and-flex in the foregrip. "Very-nearly" isn't the same as same as exactly. It's not quite a pistol, nor quite a carbine. If you HK-slap, the HK-slap will break sooner rather than later. Just bin it and fit a decent long lipo down the tube. The stock motor is very weak, and the delay between pulling the trigger and shooting the BB can be put on your calendar. A long, lonnnnnnnnng trigger pull, which isn't trivial to sort out. In combination with the insipid motor, this means that you'll never win a CQB face-off. Overall: You can have a ton of fun with this very cheap, light toy gnu out of the box. It can be upgraded, but the trigger pull and semi-auto response will remain problematic. Lipo, mosfet and a decent long-shaft motor will sort most of the cons, except for the trigger response. Should you though?: At the price, sure. Loads of laughs for the money.
  6. Then you'll be fine. Nobody at an airsoft site is going to care whether you have two-tone or RIFs, or how you got either of them. The only way that modification is going to be an issue is if you're already come to the attention of the State, at which point your problem is the S19 offence. And you already know the score with that from airgun shooting - just be prepared to explain why you're in possession. Beyond that, it's all good.
  7. It was a one-day listing. Pretty smart, up and gone before eBay even review it.
  8. Hello and welcome to the forum. Both of those make good arguments for themselves. Based on the UK specs that I can find, both have quick change springs and ball bearing bushings, the Lancer has a 6.03mm barrel and comes with a decent capacity 1600mAh NiMh battery. The Recon has a 6.01mm (!) barrel and a rotary hop, but no battery - not a huge deal as it makes sense to switch to Lipo or Life as soon as possible, so you'll want to budget for that either way. The quick change springs mean that the quoted FPS isn't that important as you can easily change either of them just by throwing in a new spring for about $10. Initially though you'll just want to give the barrel and hop rubber a clean, dial the hop in, feed them 0.25g BBs, or 0.28g if they'll lift those and your budget allows, and get out there and play. Based on the specs, I'd lean very slightly towards the Recon as I'd be changing to lipo straight away anyway. However if you just want to grab one and play, the Lancer will get you out there without having to spend another penny. I think either would be just fine, and if you have the opportunity to handle them before buying, I'd just go with whichever one feels best to you.
  9. Yes, some careful editing and some direction for dramatic effect. I stress the "some", and re-iterate the "on balance" earlier.
  10. I can't even pick up a drill now without putting them on.
  11. Oh, sure, but the thing is that nylon is cheap and really hard to mess up. Aaargh, £1.90 for the gears, £11.40 shipping: https://www.monkeemods.com/wbb/nylon-gear-set.html Find something cheaper and I'll try it.
  12. Traps. Traps are my weakness. I am a complete sucker for traps where I think I'm going to bang, but get banged instead, and uwu won't convince me otherwise.
  13. The law is that "[modifying] an imitation firearm so that it becomes a realistic imitation firearm" is an offence, see http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/36 There's no distinction between permanent and temporary. The offence is committed each and every time that you do it. Doing so for airsoft use is a defence. If you've got a skirmish booked at a site, I'd argue that you're good to go since the defence is about future intentions, not past behaviour. However, it would be better if you've played, and are booked to play again. And best if you've played at least three times over at least two months, and got UKARA or equivalent. Other opinions are available, this is not legal advice, and I'd stress that the defence is on you to adduce, so "intending to book" won't cut it. If you already have RIFs, those are good. You don't have to do a thing to them, as ownership isn't an offence. However, being in possession of any imitation firearm, realistic or otherwise, in a public place is an offence, see http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1968/27/section/19 So whenever you're on your way to or from an airsoft skirmish, have details of where you're going, or where you've been to hand. This applies to everyone, regardless of whether we have UKARA or not - what matters is the reason for being in possession at the time when it comes to the attention of the State.
  14. On balance, I agree that he's a decent bloke who mostly shows woodland airsoft as it is - a bunch of sweaty blokes winding up hi-caps and randomly spaffing hundreds of BBs into trees and bushes while shouting "MOVE UP! MOVE UP!", then getting randomly spaffed themselves after they MOVE UP three steps too far through the mud.
  15. Poorly shimmed gears in a slightly "rustic" box would strip just as well whether they're nylon or mystery-metal. This is a personal hobby-horse of mine from when I had a Kawasaki GPz305 which had much maligned nylon gears driving the oil pump. Yes, they oil-starved and seized up, but that was due to the inadequate the sump oil pickup tube with an e-z-clog filter, and the camshafts running directly in the head without bearings or even bushings (!). I never once saw a picture of the stripped nylon gears that everyone assumed would be a problem, but could never seem to prove. [URGE TO FIT NYLON GEARS INTENSIFIES]
  16. Yup, that's what the T238 is sold for. It seems like they're essentially the same as airsoft boxes, just abs or nylon shells and nylon gears. There's nothing particularly wrong with nylon, really, if you're putting out about 1J.
  17. Oh, I didn't realise you'd actually gunned up already. The thing about "entry level" is that all AEGs work in pretty much the same way and the BB really doesn't care as long as it gets some puff-spin-point. What did you go for? On mesh vs goggles, it's the perennial problem. Mesh cuts out some light, lets through shards, but doesn't fog. Polycarbonate is great when it's clear, but fogging can really ruin your day. Dual pane works fairly well, I'd suggest the Pyramex iForce or the cheapest rebranding of them that you can find as a reasonable choice. They have dual pane lenses which help to stop fogging. Not a panacea, I can fog them up and the inner lens does seem to break down after a while, but is easily replaced just by cutting a new one out of a sheet of PETG. You can also DIY dual-pane any goggles, again just by cutting a sheet of acetate to fit and sticking it on the inside of the polycarbonate lens with strips of dual sided 2mm foam tape. Lastly, you can try fan goggles, FMA or similar. I use DIY dual-paned fan goggles with Revision anti-fog wipes and am very nearly fog clear now. You'll find something that works, it just might take some experimentation.
  18. FWIW, my AA G17 works just fine with a fairly hefty pot metal slide on ASG green gas. It doesn't reliably lock back on empty at low temperatures, but the BBs keep flying.
  19. And I'm seriously considering it. However, it costs significantly more than the base gun and I wouldn't use most of the functionality. I'm not even looking for a hair-trigger, just a shorter pull and and in particular reset for semi auto use. With a mosfet wired in I got the required trigger pull down to a very small amount just by shimming the trigger to take out most of the V3 two-piece slop. Which was great until I realised that the tension needs to come right off to allow the trolley to reset in semi-auto. All that said, I improved it a fair bit by just placing pieces of cut up pencil eraser on the front and back of the trigger to limit its travel against the receiver both forwards and backwards, then gradually paring them down until it triggers and resets reliably, then gluing them place, which can be done when the gun is fully assembled. I love a simple, cheap bodge.
