Bookings now open for half days, with Sunday 19th already sold out. https://www.thedepotglasgow.com/tickets/ Enjoy, but I'll be giving it a miss until either the Spy-n-Snitch system system has gone, or there are no other options.

Looking for a strobe light for CQB
Rogerborg replied to furylemon97's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
And a really bad way to find out is while running, or standing at the top of a staircase. Nope, and nope. This is where the Equality Act 2010 kicks in. It's not up to people with disabilities to avoid sites. Sites needs to make reasonable adjustments in order to ensure that they can provide their service to people with illnesses or disabilities. What's "reasonable" is highly subjective, but this one is a no brainer. There's no particular reason to use strobes (as opposed to steady lights), and nobody is going to be disadvantaged by disallowing them. You are absolutely right to ask them to prohibit them so that you can play there. How it went at the Depot is that they used to ask if anyone had photo sensitive epilepsy, and allowed or disallowed strobes for that day depending on the answer. However, they then switched to a straight blanket ban because people either might not know, or might hesitate to speak up because the selfish chuckleheads with strobes used to boo whenever anyone did. Any CQB site that's given it a moment's thought will come to the same conclusion. -

Hmm, I can't see a way to change the currency now. I was wondering whether their Euro prices are the Sterling price + Polish VAT, or whether there's some other calculation at play. Looking at the headline price of (e.g.) £70.63 for a JG067, I reckon that's actually going to come out more like £105-£120 after shipping, VAT, duty, and whatever the courier adds on for the privilege of allowing you to pay the VAT and duty at the point of import. Given that it would be £111 delivered from PatrolBase within the UK, you'd really need to know the whole cost (and time) up front. I mean, if stocking wasn't an issue. But since it is, and you can't get it from PatrolBase, I honour the courage of those about to pay their money and spin the wheel. -
In the sense that 9/11 was when "some people did some things".

Best way in the UK to purchase a neat tactical outfit?
Rogerborg replied to ModernTimes's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I too would like to see this picture. It's OK, nobody's going to steal your prom dress idea. -
If you've seen his ballistics thread, you needn't quality that to "initial statement".

Nimh to Lipo in AER & AEP - straight swap?
Rogerborg replied to Point Two Balls's topic in Electric Guns
Should be fine in a CM.128. I run my CM.123 off of 1200mAh 7.4V stick lipo brutally shoehorned in and with a Deans connector replacing the standard contacts, but that was more just for the fun of it. A drop in replacement makes sense and I found even a tiny 7.4V lipo gave a far snappier trigger response than the stock NiMH. I'd stick to 7.4V for a very specific reason. CYMAs come with higher powered springs as stock, and the cheapest way for a seller to get them down to UK power levels is just to lop some (or actually a lot) of coils off. My CM.516 came shooting bang on 1J, but the spring had been cut down so much that it was barely long enough to return the piston fully. Not a problem with 7.4V, it shoots quite nicely. But when I dropped in an meaty 11.1V 2600mAh highish-C battery, I got significant overspin on semi, double-shooting on most trigger pulls. Unless you're sure that yours already has a full length M100 or heavier spring in it, I'd go with 7.4V. Capacity and even C rating won't matter that much with a stock CYMA, as the draw from the motor will be the limiting factor rather than supply from the battery. -
You can. Opinions vary on whether you should, to maximise longevity Given the low cost of lipos now, it's not something that I'm fussed about. My B6 wants them at 3.7V per cell for storage, for what that's worth. Bah, even 16mm x 20mm is a no-go for my purposes, 16mm x 16mm is about as big as I can go.
-
It's not the length so as the girth as the actress said to the bishop. Wiring can take up quite a bit of space in the buffer, so you're either looking at trying to stuff the battery and wiring in side by side, or coil the wiring down into the buffer (remembering that it has to be long enough to reach the end) and ram the battery down on top. All that said, I'ma go and do some experiments now, as those 16-18mm x 20mm 11.1Vs might actually go into my MP5K or down a buffer tube.

Is the "Specna Arms SA-C25 - CORE PDW AEG" a good choice?
Rogerborg replied to ModernTimes's topic in Electric Guns
Is that an assumption, or do you know of any shipments on the way? Anything coming in will have to get past the literal highway robbers on the M25 first, and given how fast everything is selling out, it'll still be a case of buying whatever's available before someone else does. -

The Xebusmass rush will be over, at least, although point taken that we might be back into another mass bout of Netflix binging self-isolated by then. -
That's my suspicion too, but I never saw a single word from the chap himself or anyone else that would suggest it was true. I can't see that ScotPlod identified anyone who was being "menaced" or mentioned a complainant - their victim seemed absolutely baffled as to why he'd been selected out of everybody posting in that group.

Nice find. Chap wants £12 for postage, and it seems those were 0.3J / 180fps even from new on green gas, so I've demurred.

Give the absolute state of Customs and Border Farce at the moment, if they're still not allowing us to pay VAT at source then I reckon I'll wait until after Wintervalmass, and to let braver souls make the attempt. -
Is the "Specna Arms SA-C25 - CORE PDW AEG" a good choice?
Rogerborg replied to ModernTimes's topic in Electric Guns
It would be fine, although please be aware that it's plastic bodied. A nice plastic, but that money gets you into the metal bodied EDGE range. Oh... but they're out of stock. Hmm, I see what you mean. Out of stock, out of stock, out of stock, all the way down. And I don't really rate the X-ASR mosftet in the CORE/EDGE range. It's there just for trigger contact protection, and is fine with the stock motors, but gets sketchy if you fit a higher draw aftermarket motor. Given that, there's no particular reason to buy the higher priced CORE guns over the cheaper SA-C06 / SA-C08, as they're all plastic, and have the same decent rotary hop and QC spring system. Or if you want compact and a mosfet, the SA-C12 will do the same job as the C25 for less. The good news is that looking at what PatrolBase actually have in stock today in terms of M4 AEGs under £200, I would say that any of them will be fine, except I'd avoid the Nuprols like the plague, and Evolution Airsoft are still an unknown quantity. Lancer Tacticals went through a ropey phase, but so did Specna, and they both seem OK at the moment. I wouldn't over-think it, because at the moment if you snooze, you lose - the Double Eagles appear to be totally out of stock now. -
I'd be astonished if they prosecuted for it, if they have any Firearms Act charges to bring to bear. The amount of ignorance on display even at the prosecutorial level is staggering. Remember the chap in Falkirk who got swooped on in public by armed response, uniform, undercover, and the copper chopper, for posting a video of a RIF in a Facebook airsoft group full of such videos. Having realised what a monumental foul up ScotPlod had made by clearly thinking they were dealing with a real firearm, the Fiscal did a volte-face and quickly changed the charges to a Section 127 "menacing" communication, while trying to stitch him up by removing the airsoft context from it. This is why I'm very circumspect about posting images of myself with a RIF. The State patently knows next to nothing about either airsoft or its own laws, and we can't expect anything like rational, reasonable behaviour from it.

Well, that's sent me off down a rabbit hole of yeahbuts. I think the pragmatic answer is no, of course not, because nobody will ever know or care. Legally, I have absolutely no idea how it would be interpreted. I mean, the IF hasn't just lost the paint itself, just sitting there. One one hand, it's been lost through the actions of the owner, so they modified it. But on the other hand, there was - probably - no intent, or mens rea. On the gripping hand, anyone who had deliberately removed paint could say "Yeah, it just wore off, legit." Like so much airsoft legislation, I doubt we'll ever know, unless you can somehow persuade the police and CPS to prosecute you. Fun story, I asked a copper chum to report me to the Fiscal for wearing a flip-front motorcycle helmet flipped up, to settle a spat over the statute and interpretation, but she didn't want to do the paperwork. Spoilsport. That's a £100 FPN tariff and no licence endorsement through, I'd hate to be a test case for anything toy-firearms related.

Eezer Goode's Sci Fi Armour Build Thread
Rogerborg replied to Ebeneezer Goode's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
You can put in an articulated belly plate hanging off of the torso to allow bending over. I still reckon you'll have issued with it rising up when raising your arms: generally you'd keep it to a narrow strip over the shoulders, and then articulate shoulder pauldrons off of it. However, you won't know until you try and you can always modify it later. -
That's what I use, or a rebranded equivalent. Works for me, and had a decent variety of tips. That's a decent price for that whole package, everything you need to get going, although a set of helping hands... helps.

Hmm, on the second time of trying, it appears that I've had a solid M4 stock not even make it out of China again. From what I can make out from the AliExpress tracking, it's been rattling round inside China, was returned (twice, apparently) and has been sent out again. I know some folk have had gear come through OK, but I'm having patchy luck. No idea why, or what's triggering it (badum tsssh). -
I solder Deans with the connectors paired together, and with the far terminal clamped in a pair of surgical forceps to help with heat distribution and dissipation.

At this point it's starting to feel like every second buyer or seller is going to bust out a tale about how they're a Nigerian Prince working on the North Sea oil rig, but their very most trusted courier will collect or delivery much securely with no worry risks once you have by Western Union payment done.
-
Yup, I like .28s as a decent combination of range vs cost. Well, good news, you've got money in the budget for barrel and hop rubber. You shouldn't really need them, although I do like Maple Leaf rubbers.
-
Yes, although I'll have a little screech about even mentioning "fps" since the legislation talks only in terms of kinetic energy and "a missile (of any kind)". If push comes to legal shove, the State isn't going to drop 0.2g in there, but 0.46g or even steel BBs. The intention is to limit what non-firearm airsoft guns could do in the wrong hands. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1968/27/section/57A

Wow, good on them. I am delighted to hear that, it's a great advert for them, even with the mix-up.
