  1. Okay, so I have a Star Sopmod. It was put away working, and been in it's hardcase for years.

I am paranoid that if used, the (unique) motor will go and it'll be a paperweight.

It has had gears go before but they were not unique to the model.

I have sourced a supplier of the Ares V2 SOPMOD motor - $22 no less - and hopefully over V2 parts.

My query is...how compatible are V1/V2 parts?!

I'd love to use it again but really don't want to irrepairably knacker it.

    Cheers.

  2. Without wanting to necro-post, but have been into Crawley Surplus a fair few times in the last year since discovering them, and they are really good guys.

The tech/s working there are spot-on and whilst some of their prices are a bit mad on certain things, others are very competitive.

Had a hold of the Dual-1911 they'd just got in today. Good luck holstering that!

    Well worth a visit.

  3. Combat South are consummate professionals.

CSW is run extremely well and their Christmas skirmish and raffle is outstanding.

The shop is a bit of a treasure trove and yes, customer service is top notch.

CSW rules are 328fps +/- 10% IIRC and there is no Co2 allowed either IIRC. Not sure about sniper FPS.

  4. I like both aspects.

I like having AEGs that I don't see anyone else with (or at least rarely) and/or ones I really like - my first cap gun was an Uzi, so I had to get a TM Uzi...I love Bond films, so I had to get a PPK(/S). I love the bank robbery in Heat, so I had to get a Galil...I love Full Metal Jacket and I know I will, someday, own an M60...

As for clothing, I grew up in hand-me-downs and we never had a lot of money for branded clothes. Now that I have a salary, I can save up for some nice gear that also is perfectly suitable for trail walking; which I am getting into as well. So I have invested in clothes that should be durable, functional and tactical if needs be: TAD Gear, Merrell and OPS being the main ones. I loved the look of a PCU jacket, so I wanted one. The fact that it works flipping well in winter swayed my wallet. I wear what is going to keep me warm or cool and most importantly, comfortable. It can be a long old day and the UK weather is, as we all know, and unpredictable madam.

What is great about airsoft, and it echoes others; is that participants are, as a whole, pretty non-judgemental. 'What works for you', is my motto.

  5. Yes, Karrimor is just an intellectual property these days, same as Kangol, Sondico and Slazenger. It is how Ashley does things...buys the brand so it can be put on any old thing.

Am sure some items are still good...but I would expect to get what you pay for.

  6. "Buy it at our discounted price with a full 12 month warranty OR take the responsibility yourself if you have any issues with your rifle and we will knock £250 off the price."

That is an ambiguous statement then. It reads like the £799.99 is the discounted price (which it is) and then you can knock another £250 off. Hmm.

  7. I grabbed some Goretex Merrell Allout Blaze 'trainers' from eBay for about half the RRP - well worth looking into - very comfortable, waterproof thus far and seem to be hard-wearing. They are a blue/grey though.

When it isn't wet, I wear Merrell Chameleon Wrap 'trainers' which are a lower cut but a better colour match for my loadout.

  8. US MARPAT is pretty damn effective and not seen a lot...

The slightly greener CADPAT is hardly ever seen *bad-dum tish* on a skirmish day IMHO and I would dare say could be more effective than MARPAT.

Danish M84 is very good in woodland - maybe almost as effective as Flecktarn - which I rate pretty much the highest.

US Tri-Colour BDUs are a classic look, cheap-as-fries and easily sourced with lots of pouches/vests etc., as well.

  9. I've been buying up TAD Gear now for about a year. I do skirmish in some of it (because it is damn tough and very warm) and I use it for trail walking, etc.

Yes, it is expensive. But you can genuinely see in the quality and the features what you are paying for. The stitching is tight and reinforced, the traditional weak points are reinforced, the pockets are numerous and well located and the colours work well for both skirmishing and casual wear. Win win.

The Praetorian merino hoodie is one of the warmest, most comfortable items of clothing you could imagine. The Ranger hoodie negates the need of a coat or jacket on an average UK Autumn night or winter's day in my experience so far.

The Recon trousers are beading off rain after several low temperature washes and the Force 10 cargo pants feel and look brand new after almost a year of wearing them.

Buy what you can afford, but if you can stretch a bit more for a top brand like TAD Gear or Arc'teryx, then I would say 'go for it'.

In comparison, my Patagonia L5 softshell jacket is bobbling quite a bit after only a few outings and the Helikon Multicam trousers I bought the other day for spares feel like tissue paper when compared to the OPS shirt they'll be paired with. Buy cheap, buy twice indeed.
