Mik3F Posted Friday at 09:28 Share Posted Friday at 09:28 Hi All, Im a newbie to here and also to Airsoft in general, My eldest lad got me intrested in it and looks like I am getting hooked I purchased a starter bundle to get me going - A Nuprol Delta Pioneer Defender, seems to be a reasonable beginner weapon, and yes I know its nowhere near as good as some of the others out there, but for now it will do me fine Ive added a Red Dot sight, laser and foldable foregrip, plan on maybe putting a tracer unit on it Ive also bought some midcap mags for it Got a Dye facemask, a vest and gloves Plan on getting a pistol at some point, but that will be after I get a UKARA Go nice on me and any advice is greatly appreciated for a newbie getting into the Hobby / sport Galvatron, Barry Sayer, Chev Chelios and 1 other
Dogsbody100 Posted Friday at 11:45 Share Posted Friday at 11:45 Welcome in both respects! It very much sounds like the airsoft bug has bitten, believe me you’re in good company here. You’re spot on about your first purchase and moreover you’ve actually done it the smart way by not blowing a metric shit ton o’money on your first gun, that’s a mistake many make who later realise they ain’t that into it after all and are then seen on Mack’s (you’ll see what I mean) trying to get back the grand they spent on it in the first place. Advice wise is just enjoy it, it’s a great way to spend a day with your lad, I dare say he probably loves the fact that you play alongside him. Its also worth remembering that most days you’ll get hit more that you’ll hit others, you’ll feel like you’ve gone a round with Bruce Lee the day after and you’ll also end up spending a few bob in addition to what you already have! But it’s great fun and this place is absolutely golden for questions and advice, there’s some really knowledgeable players on here (not me) that are only too happy to help. Enjoy! Supporters Rogerborg Posted Friday at 11:48 Supporters Share Posted Friday at 11:48 Ahoy and welcome. I hope your lad has realised that his inheritance is now coming in the form of toy guns. The Nuprol is... well, affordable. If it feeds off of generic M4 midcaps that's probably a decent sign that it's not full of weird components. Long term, you'll rarely regret having a basic AR as a backup / loan gun. The Dye is a good shout, you'll never regret money spent on eye / face protection. Out of interest, what site(s) are you playing at? I ask because lasers are prohibited everywhere I play. Mik3F

Cannonfodder Posted Friday at 12:44 Share Posted Friday at 12:44 Hello and welcome. As others have posted the Nuprol is a good choice for a starter gun, don't think that more expensive always means better performance. Also don't start thinking about "upgrades" till you've used it a few times. This way you'll have a better idea what you want from it Well done on avoiding the usual newbie mistake of buying a whole load of kit that you like the look of that gets used once before being consigned to the back of a cupboard. Was about to attend my first game, having never been shot with an airsoft gun before I had the bright idea to let my wife shoot me, just so I didn't squeal like a piggy when it happened on site. Hand her a glock19, walk about 50 feet down the garden & turn to face her, "do it" I yelled & braced for impact😬 8 shots later she still hasn't hit me, so my little boy says he'll do it, so she carefully gives him the gun & helps him hold it at arms length.........bang, first literally zips past my ear, so close it almost had a crack like a real round, I leg it towards cover, too slow, the next shot hits me in the nipple, i squeal & he thinks its the funniest thing in the world. Fast forward 23 years, hes got a 4 year old of his own, but still loves to shoot his dad, only now dad shoots back😈 Cannonfodder, Colin Allen and Enid_Puceflange 1
Cannonfodder Posted Friday at 15:26 Share Posted Friday at 15:26 If you haven't already I highly recommend a pair of gloves, especially for CQB. Take a hit to the fingers or knuckles and you'll understand Rogerborg, Mik3F and Galvatron

Mik3F Posted Friday at 16:52 Author Share Posted Friday at 16:52 Yeah, hope so, I did a bit of looking around before deciding on them I could have used my Mountain Bike gloves and I have loads of those, but you know poper gloves for the proper application

When starting out, I wouldn't make a fuss about what you've bought, just that you spend wisely, which it looks like you've done. I got a used Nuprol DPD for almost pocket change as a loaner for one of my friends getting in until he had his UKARA sorted out and I'll keep it for others. Supporters Rogerborg Posted yesterday at 00:44 Supporters Share Posted yesterday at 00:44 The Mechanix are a good shout. I used all sorts of cycling / motorcycle / tacticool gloves, but after finally springing on some Mechanix M-Pacts, I think they're idea for airsoft, especially in CQB. Pistols are pretty much hip decoration outdoors, but are viable in CQB and blowbacks are great fun. Do you have a brand or platform in mind? Mik3F
Im looking for a GBB pistol Not bothered on brand tbh as it will be as a backup for CQB, ideally don't want to spend too much just yet on one
Colin Allen
Welcome to the hobby; playing with your kids is great. Mine started when they were 10 and 12; the eldest gave up years ago but the youngest still plays regularly when he is down from university. Well done on buying a sensible first gun; play with it a few times to see what you think needs improving (range, accuracy, rate of fire, trigger response etc) and then start looking at upgrades. The Advice and Technical Help section of the forum is a great place to get advice and guidance on upgrades from some very knowledgeable folk. One thing I would recommend if you do not already have them is a good pair of solid boots that support your ankles; surplus boots are excellent for this and quite cheap. As for a pistol, I would highly recommend the CO2 powered ASG XP18 commander. My son and I have been using them for a while and have found them to be solid, reliable and consistent; CO2 is also more reliable than airsoft gas in cold weather, although they struggled at -6 degrees a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy this silly hobby! Galvatron and Mik3F
Mik3F
I have a pair of Cat boots that support my ankles so all's good there I should really say my lads are almost 23 and 19, so not kids anymore Wish I was that young again Edited 19 hours ago by Mik3F
Supporters Rogerborg Posted 17 hours ago Supporters Share Posted 17 hours ago Ah, a lot of us do. 18 and 21 for me, and all the more reason to enjoy ourselves now. CO2 is more consistent than propane-based "green" (/red/black) gas, but I've gone gas out of pure penny pinching, as the thought of piercing CO2 cannister(s) and then not using them during a day is physically painful to Scottish sensibilities. That said, I'll go out with 6 or 7 gassed mags and rarely get through the 2nd one - this isn't a particularly sensible hobby. If you do want to go green gas, the AAP-01 is cheap, functional, gas efficient (as it's bolt rather than slide blowback) and takes readily available Glock mags. I have the AAP-01C variant (along with the usual collection of other pistols) and am happy with it. If you want to drop 3 figures then you're unlikely to go wrong Tokyo Marui - Japanese made, and often cloned. But really, whatever you like the look of is likely the best choice, although I'd stay away from Raven and Vorsk as they're both 2 levels of rebranding away from any manufacturer who cares about the QC.
